Cryptocurrency mining is a decentralized way to issue and distribute new cryptocurrency while protecting a blockchain network from malicious activity. On systems like Bitcoin that use a Proof-of-Work consensus, mining involves confirming user transactions.

In turn, miners are rewarded with a preset amount of digital currency. Mining equipment ranges from central processing units (CPUs) to graphics processing units (GPUs), cloud services and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). For a new miner, this equipment can be quite expensive. This is why they often form groups known as mining pools to minimize cost.

To begin mining cryptocurrency, the following must be available:

  • A mining hardware setup in a cool space
  • A coin wallet to store daily earnings
  • A free mining software package like BFGminger
  • An online mining pool membership
  • A cryptocurrency exchange user account

MINING RISKS

Mining is profitable but comes with some risks that every miner faces. These include:

  • Loss of digital wallets, either physically in the form of a hardware wallet, or online, by forgetting the login details
  • Dishonest mining pool organizers
  • High mining costs, including electricity
  • Malicious intruders
  • A fall in the price of the digital currency being mined

WHAT ARE THE BEST CRYPTOCURRENCIES TO START MINING IN 2019?

In 2019, every mining choice must be made strategically. Each token must be chosen for its degree of reliability, ease, and affordability. In those terms, the best cryptocurrencies to mine in 2019 are:

1. RAVENCOIN

Ravencoin is an open source protocol developed from a fork of the original Bitcoin source code. It is used to efficiently transfer assets from one party to another, using the x16R algorithm. This algorithm works via the random selection of 1 out of 16 different algorithms depending on the hash of the last mined block and makes it difficult to use an ASIC for it.

This is great news for new miners who cannot afford expensive ASIC devices yet and can only mine using GPUs. For this device-friendly reason, Ravencoin is popular among miners. Some prominent Ravencoin mining pools include:

  • Pickaxe.Pro
  • Virtopia Mining Pool
  • XiTech
  • Zergpool

2. ZENCASH

Rebranded as Horizen, ZenCash is a privacy coin like Monero and Zcash, which uses the equihash mining algorithm. As a decentralized blockchain platform, it can be used to carry out a public, private, and anonymous transactions, as well as communications, and publishing.

It was created as a fork of ZClassic, which is, in turn, a fork of Zcash. As a result, Zencash still withholds Zcash’s privacy feature, zk-SNARKS. Some systems that make up its platform include Zenchat, Zenpop, and Zenhide.

ZenCash can be mined using a CPU as well as a GPU and is excellent for new miners who cannot afford any other devices or the excessive power and electricity requirements.

3. AEON

AEON is a simple mobile-friendly coin which was built as a lightweight substitute to Monero, in the same way that Litecoin was created as a lighter substitute to Bitcoin. Like Monero, AEON is a privacy coin. It addresses issues with senior currency such as usability and optimizes its CryptoNote hash using its improved functionality.

AEON is excellent for mining because it is more device-friendly than many other cryptocurrencies. It can be mined with a CPU, GPU, ASIC and cloud mining services. Despite its tolerance for ASICs, the platform is actively trying to eradicate the need for them. ASICs are relatively expensive and cause a class gap in mining activity as a result.

4. ELECTRONEUM

Electroneum is a mobile-friendly altcoin built to encourage mass adoption of digital currency by making its acquisition as easy as downloading any software. The project focuses on eliminating the processes that users have to go through usually, just to buy coins on exchanges by making it more accessible.

Relatively new to the world of cryptocurrency, Electroneum (ETN) is an excellent mining option, especially for newcomers. It was created in 2017 from the proceeds of an ICO conducted by its team and is now the 67th largest digital currency with a market capitalization of about $58 million.

Electroneum was designed with the idea of availability and accessibility. As a result, it is relatively easy to use and can be mined on several devices. The software needed for its mining process is also just as easy to use and set up on a mobile device or PC.

5. FEATHERCOIN

Feathercoin was created as an optimized version of Bitcoin, with the aim of expanding and building upon existing blockchain technology. With a transaction time of 60 seconds, it is ten times faster than Bitcoin and runs on the Neo scrypt hashing algorithm.

Feathercoin can be mined using software like NSGMiner, SGMiner, and Miner-X (Java GUI frontend for SGMiner).

Like other digital currencies, joining a mining pool might be the best way to minimize mining costs while maximizing profit. Some Feathercoin pools include:

  • P2Pool
  • Give-Me-Coins
  • Mining Pool Hub
  • The Blocks Factory

6. ETHEREUM

Ethereum is an open source platform on which decentralized applications can be built. Its primary asset, ether, is used to carry out operations regarding these applications and other systems on its network.

Ethereum is currently the second most expensive coin on the market, so its mining difficulty is higher than that of other currencies. However, due to its steep price, it can be advantageous. Another reason why Ethereum is great for mining lies in the fact that CPUs and GPUs are its only supported devices.

Since Ethereum rewards its miners according to Ethash, its proof of work algorithm, ASICs are not supported, and as a result, miners can reduce the amount of money spent on electricity and equipment.

Some Ethereum mining pools include:

  • ETHfans
  • Dwarfpool
  • F2pool
  • ETHpool

7. LITECOIN

Litecoin is a peer-based cryptocurrency that allows its users to make instant, affordable payments globally. It was created to fix some problems found on the Bitcoin network, including transaction confirmation speed, scalability, mining process, storage efficiency, and transaction fees.

Unlike Bitcoin, Litecoin does not use the SHA-256 algorithm. Instead, it uses Scrypt, an algorithm which does not require the use of an ASIC device.

8. MONERO

Monero is a utility cryptocurrency which uses cryptographic methods to ensure that user transactions cannot be traced back to them. Easily one of the most coveted coins, it sits at 14th place on the list of top digital currencies, with a market cap of more than $756 million.

Monero is regarded as the most advanced privacy coin in the industry and is based on a proof of work hashing algorithm. This algorithm allows just about anyone to mine the coin as long as they have a CPU or GPU. To make Monero mining more profitable, users may want to join some public pools such as:

  • MineXMR
  • Nanopool
  • Dwarfpool

FINAL THOUGHTS

Mining is a necessary activity for the survival of a large number of digital currencies. Although cryptocurrency trade as well as buying and holding various coins can be immensely profitable, mining offers great rewards as well. It may be too late to join the Bitcoin train in this aspect, but luckily for users, there are a lot more altcoins to choose from. Whether with a CPU, GPU, ASIC or cloud, there are immensely profitable coins that are affordable to mine.

How Genesis Mining Took Over the Cloud Mining Sector https://briefnews.eu/how-genesis-mining-took-over-the-cloud-mining-sector/ https://briefnews.eu/how-genesis-mining-took-over-the-cloud-mining-sector/#respond Mon, 12 Nov 2018 11:09:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/?p=237664 Article was originally published at CoinCentral.

Genesis Mining is one of the largest cloud mining operations in the world. This crypto giant started from meager beginnings and grew into a global powerhouse in less than five years. Genesis Mining’s strategy of providing enterprise-level cloud mining to interested crypto investors has paid off massively and allowed the company to carve out a permanent home in the crypto space.

The Early Days

The journey starts with one of Genesis Mining’s co-founders, and long-time crypto supporter, Marco Streng. The year was 2011, and Marco had just built one of his first mining rigs. During his time as a home miner, Marco learned valuable lessons about his craft that would later help to shape the future of the entire crypto market.

The crypto market was more unstable at this time, and crypto miners were forced to build their rigs at home. Depending on the other factors involved in this process, such as electricity costs, users could easily find that they were losing money on their mining venture. Recognizing the need for a solution to this problem, Marco conceived the concept of Genesis Mining.

The crypto space already had numerous cloud mining platforms, but many were simple Ponzi schemes rather than actual mining operations. As you would imagine, this type of flimsy business model doesn’t hold up well over long periods of time and usually ends with new investors losing all of their money.

Cloud mining is a particularly good business model for Ponzi schemes because users never actually enter your facility. The market became so saturated with these scams at one point that many crypto investors felt that all cloud mining operations were scams.

Genesis Mining

In the midst of all of this chaos, Genesis Mining utilized one of the pillars of the crypto community, transparency, to provide users with a new level of security and trust. Unlike the competition, Genesis Mining decided to follow the SEC’s strict guidelines. The company even filed for licensing for a USD 100 million investment fund back in 2016. This strategy set the mining platform apart from the competition, and, ultimately made the concept a huge success.

Data Centers

Today, Genesis Mining owns and operates some of the largest data centers in the world. The company keeps the exact locations of their data centers private, but over the years, investigators have confirmed that the company operates at least three major mining installations located in Iceland, Canada, and Bosnia.

Enigma

Genesis Mining continued to shape the industry from day one. The developers created the first exclusive Ethereum mining farm known as Enigma. The facility utilizes a combination of state-of-the-art mining chips and geothermal energy to offer users competitive payouts on their investments. The facility is regarded as one of the largest mining farms in the world and is located in Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik.

Genesis Mining Features

The Genesis Mining platform offers competitively priced cloud mining contracts to corporations and individuals globally. The platform provides users with a plethora of unique features such as Radiant. Radiant takes into account the entire spectrum of mining concerns including electricity costs, Bitcoin prices, and processing power. The platform automatically adjusts the mining rigs performance to provide you with maximum profitability.

Genesis Mining in the Crypto Community

Currently, the Genesis Mining platform has over two million registered users, and the company’s founders are pillars of the crypto community. The company’s CEO, Marco Streng, frequently speaks publicly at blockchain events around the globe. Forbes did a piece on Streng in which the magazine described him as a “27-year old mathematician building a Bitcoin empire.” Streng proved to be an advantageous entrepreneur, and his company made some strategic partnerships along their journey to bolster their market stance.

Genesis Mining Partners with Hive Blockchain

In September 2017, HIVE Blockchain Technologies Ltd. acquired Genesis Mining’s Reykjavik data center for $9 million and 67,975,428 common shares in the capital produced by the company. HIVE Blockchain is a partnership between Genesis Mining and Foire Group. The connection made HIVE Blockchain the largestlisted blockchain infrastructure company in the world.

Cease and Desist from South Carolina Attorney General

It’s not always great being an industry pioneer, as Genesis Mining recently learned. In March of this year, the firm received a cease and desist from the South Carolina Attorney General. The cease and desist was meant to pause cloud mining operations while the Attorney General researched the validity of these operations. After five months of investigation, the court withdrew the cease and desist order, and the company was permitted to continue operations.

Genesis Mining company officials used the investigation as a way to educate lawmakers on the nuances of the crypto mining sector. The chief compliance officer of Genesis Mining, Shah Hafizi spoke publicly on the matter. He explained how his company is proud to work with regulators to provide a safer investment climate in the market.

Genesis Mining Ends Contracts Temporarily

This year saw some large market corrections befall the crypto space. Genesis Mining payouts took a big hit in January 2018 due to these massive losses in the crypto market. These losses resulted in smaller Bitcoin mining agreements becoming unprofitable. As a result, company officials decided to force users to upgrade to more substantial contracts or risk losing them.

The pause in lower tier Bitcoin mining contracts didn’t last that long, and by June, the company had reinstated many of its Bitcoin mining agreements. Today, the company offers a wide range of cloud mining contracts to users of all financial means. Users can now mine multiple cryptocurrencies from the platform. These cryptos include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero, and Zcash.

Genesis Mining: More Still to Come

Genesis Mining has managed to carve out a vital niche in the crypto market. This large cloud mining operation is now a critical component in the strategies of many crypto investors. When you consider the rising costs of electricity in many regions, it’s easy to see where firms such as Genesis Mining find their use. You should expect to see the cloud mining sector increase as more corporations follow in Genesis Mining’s footsteps.

Blockchain company buys asteroid mining firm Planetary Resources https://briefnews.eu/blockchain-company-buys-asteroid-mining-firm-planetary-resources/ https://briefnews.eu/blockchain-company-buys-asteroid-mining-firm-planetary-resources/#respond Mon, 05 Nov 2018 01:47:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/blockchain-company-buys-asteroid-mining-firm-planetary-resources/

Planetary Resources just took an unusual turn on its path to asteroic mining. ConsenSys, a blockchain company created by Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, has bought Planetary Resources for an unspecified sum. It sounds supremely trendy given the combination of blockchain and private spaceflight, but it’sa logical fit if you ask Planetary Resources’ Brian Israel. Blockchain-based smart contracts represent a “natural solution” for commerce in space, Israel said — there are no territorial divisions, so this may be an ideal way for people from various countries to “coordinate and transact.”

ConsenSys will run its space strategy at Planetary Resources’ former Redmond, Washington location. Both Israel and Planetary Resources chief Chris Lewicki are joining ConsenSys as part of the deal.

The newly united companies haven’t outlined a roadmap at this stage. However, the acquisition is as much the result of financial necessity as anything else. The company has edged closer to its plans of asteroid mining by testing its technologies in space, but it recently laid off employees after failing to secure an important funding round. ConsenSys’ takeover gives Planetary Resources a lifeline that should keep its plans intact, even if it’s now likely that the company will delay a key asteroid inspection mission past its original 2020 target.

  • Global mining companies invested almost $ 1 trillion in major projects between 2008-2017.
  • Despite strong industry conditions, almost one-third of that — $ 273 billion — was written off.

Global mining companies have had a good run since the start of this century. But research from Morgan Stanley shows big miners weren’t averse to shooting themselves in the foot while the money was flowing in.

In a research note on the global mining outlook, MS analysts said annual post-tax returns on capital for BHP and Rio averaged 14% from 2000-2017, up from 8% between 1981-1999.

Russia & China agree to joint gold mining project in Siberia https://briefnews.eu/russia-china-agree-to-joint-gold-mining-project-in-siberia/ https://briefnews.eu/russia-china-agree-to-joint-gold-mining-project-in-siberia/#respond Fri, 15 Jun 2018 09:49:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/russia-china-agree-to-joint-gold-mining-project-in-siberia/

The Russian government has approved a cooperation agreement with China on developing the Klyuchevskoye gold ore deposit in the Trans-Baikal region.

The decree was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, and the project is expected to be operational in two years. The planned volume of ore extraction is over 12 million tons per year.

Development of the Klyuchevskoye gold deposit is a very important project, according to the region’s governor, Natalia Zhdanova. Three countries – Russia, India, and China – are involved in the project’s development.

“It is important for the region. Foreign economic policy and attraction of investors are among the key work aspects for the Trans-Baikal’s government,” Zhdanova said, adding that 28 projects involving foreign investors are already being implemented there.

Earlier this month, she held talks with representatives of Indian investment company SUN Gold and Chinese state-owned gold mining company China National Gold.

Chinese and Indian companies plan to invest nearly $ 500 million in the project, which is expected to create about 3,000 jobs in the region.

UK investigators raid Cambridge Analytica offices in Facebook data mining probe https://briefnews.eu/uk-investigators-raid-cambridge-analytica-offices-in-facebook-data-mining-probe/ https://briefnews.eu/uk-investigators-raid-cambridge-analytica-offices-in-facebook-data-mining-probe/#respond Fri, 23 Mar 2018 22:45:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/uk-investigators-raid-cambridge-analytica-offices-in-facebook-data-mining-probe/ Investigators from the Information Commissioner’s Office have searched the London offices of Cambridge Analytica and seized files and servers. The raid forms part of an investigation into its Facebook data harvesting.

Around 20 officials wearing black jackets emblazoned with “ICO Enforcement” entered the offices on Friday, according to reports. A UK High Court judge had granted the Information Commissioner’s Office’s application for a warrant to search the London offices of Cambridge Analytica earlier on Friday evening. Judge Leonard told the court he will outline his reasons for granting the application next Tuesday.

“We are pleased with the decision of the Judge, and the warrant is now being executed,” ICO said in a statement late Friday. “This is just one part of a larger investigation into the use of personal data and analytics for political purposes. As you will expect, we will now need to collect, assess and consider the evidence before coming to any conclusions.”

UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham will use Cambridge Analytica’s files and servers as part of the investigation into how the firm harvested data on 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge. A whistleblower detailed how users’ data was illegally acquired and used to build profiles of American voters ahead of the 2016 US presidential election.

Meanwhile, evidence is mounting surrounding alleged links between the UK Conservative Party and the UK government with the scandal-hit firm. Theresa May was questioned in Parliament on Wednesday over reports that her party received more than £700,000 in donations from a director of the company.

In addition, it was revealed this week that Cambridge Analytica’s parent company SCL received nearly £200,000 for two Ministry of Defence projects which would have given it access to top secret files.

Cambridge Analytica has said it is willing to cooperate with the ICO in the probe. The British consulting firm denies any wrongdoing, while Facebook admitted “mistakes” in mishandling data back in 2014, and promised tougher steps to restrict access to data.
