The group’s winners single Dimelo had only until midnight last night to register for today’s sales flash, and is already No46.

It now has until midnight on Thursday to continue its sales momentum before this week’s final tally is revealed on Friday.

As it stands, Dimelo – featuring Wyclef Jean and Naughty Boy, has a three-day handicap, given that the chart tracking week runs Friday-Thursday, and they didn’t win X Factor until Sunday night.

However, given that it’s currently at No1 on the iTunes listings, it stands in good stead to rise significantly, providing its popularity on streaming platforms is also hefty.

Elsewhere, Mariah Carey is continuing her annual ascent up the rundown with All I Want For Christmas Is You; racing from No22 to No4 in today’s update.

On iTunes, the 1994 classic is only at No32 – meaning the lion’s share of its performance is coming from streams.

Similarly Wham!’s Last Christmas has raced up to No5, and the Pogues’ Fairytale Of New York is at No9.

However it is Ed Sheeran out in front: Perfect is benefitting massively from a new version featuring Beyonce, and is leading the race at the half-way stage.

Assuming it holds until Friday, it will be his fourth chart-topping single.

Elsewhere Rita Ora holds at No2 with Anywhere and Camila Cabello is expected to drop from No1 to No3 with Havana, after five weeks on the throne.

The highest new entry – pending a Rak-Su surge – is from Louis Tomlinson, whose Miss You is currently showing at No30.

In the albums market, U2 are heading for the top with Songs of Experience – likely to be their first Top 5 record since 2009.

They looked to be heading for victory until the sin-binning of second row Iain Henderson and after leaking two tries with him off the field had to make do with a frustrating share of the spoils against the Super Rugby champions when Dan Biggar’s injury time drop goal fell short. 

In terms of Test selection the most significant part of the evening may have been the removal of Courtney Lawes after 54 impressive minutes. He may well have been mothballed with Saturday’s return against the All Blacks at the same venue in mind. 

The Lions, who lost Robbie Henshaw to a shoulder injury after 20 minutes, had opened up a 23-7 lead by the break thanks to tries from Tommy Seymour and George North. 

Henshaw’s exit led to North moving into the Irishman’s centre position and he was on the spot to take Henderson’s pass after the Hurricanes had coughed up a high ball on their own 22 and score.

With Biggar punishing the Hurricanes for their regular indiscretions it made for a healthy half time position although they did leak one try to flanker Callum Gibbins after a series of drives. 

The Hurricanes started the second half fast and Julian Savea came off his wing to put centre Ngani Laumape away for an early try that saw Biggar temporarily leave the field for a head injury assessment. 

It gave Finn Russell five minutes off the bench to become a Lion but Biggar was soon back pull the strings again. When the Hurricanes again transgressed and a frustrated Romain Poite sent scrum-half Te Toiroa Tahurioramgi to the sin-bin, Biggar shipped midfield scrum ball wide and Leigh Halfpenny put Seymour in for his second try. 

North almost had a second too, gathering Jonathan Joseph’s chip one-handed in full flight but put a foot on the line in the process.

The Lions then encountered the wrath of the French referee as Henderson, who had been outstanding up to that point, was despatched for dangerously upending Jordie Barrett at a ruck in the 65th minute. 

Barrett, the brother of All Blacks stand-off Beauden was unhurt but punished the Lions with a beautiful long pass out to Wes Goosen which allowed the replacement wing to bring the Hurricanes within a score. And Vaea Fifita leapt between the posts three minutes later for a try Barrett converted to level the match. 

The home side, roared on by a crowd of 38,000, battered away but the Lions held out and when they went up the other end Biggar was unable to pull the win out of the fire from 40 metres.

Rory Best said: “It’s very frustrating. They’re a very good side and I think we look back at mistakes that let them back into it.

“But to build leads like we did, we’ve got to look at positives. You cannot fault the effort but we lacked a bit in our composure and weren’t clinical enough at times.

“Hendy was absolutely fabulous tonight but we’ve got to be a bit bigger than a yellow card.”

Warren Gatland said: “That yellow card was going to be a penalty to us. It’s been reversed, Iain Henderson has gone off reducing us to 14 men – and in that 10 minutes the game has gone.

“Henderson carried really well for us. We thought he had got over from short range – that’s nine times we have been held up on or over the line on this tour and not been awarded a try.

“Henderson carried excellently and got in behind them, so did some other players.”
