Uber Technologies said Thursday it's responding to a cybersecurity incident.
Uber employees received a message from an unknown person on the company Slack that read, "I am a hacker," both Bloomberg and The New York Times reported. The apparent hacker also listed multiple internal databases that they claimed to have accessed, The Times reported.
Uber told Insider it was responding to a "cybersecurity incident" and was in touch with law enforcement.
—Uber Comms (@Uber_Comms) September 16, 2022
Uber has taken Slack offline, according to both Bloomberg and The Times.
The hacker's identity remains unknown, but a person claiming to be behind the hack has spoken to The Times as well as some cybersecurity experts.
Sam Curry, a security engineer at Yuga Labs, tweeted that the attacker "is claiming to have completely compromised Uber" and had shared screenshots showing that the person had full admin access on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform.
"This is a total compromise, from what it looks like," Curry told The Times.
The supposed hacker told The Times that he was just 18 and had gotten access to Uber's systems by texting an Uber worker pretending to be a corporate information technology person. He sent The Times images that showed access to lists of Uber emails, cloud storage information, and code.
Uber was also the victim of a huge cyberattack in 2016 that exposed the personal data of 57 million people, including both riders and drivers. The company paid hackers $ 100,000 to erase the data from their servers. Details of the data breach weren't made public until a year after it happened.
Do you work for Uber? Got a story about the hack? Email this reporter at gdean@insider.com.

Apple releases updates for the iPhone pretty regularly. In addition to at least one major update to the OS each year, there are generally a few incremental updates throughout the year, often to fix bugs and perform security improvements.
You can set your iPhone to update itself automatically, or manually update it yourself. Here's what you should know.
The easiest (and most secure) way to manage iPhone updates is to let your device handle it.
Here's how to make sure your iPhone is ready to update automatically:
1. Open the Settings app and tap General.
Grace Eliza Goodwin/Insider
2. On the General page, tap Software Update.
Grace Eliza Goodwin/Insider
3. On the Software Update page, tap Automatic Updates.
4. To let the iPhone do everything automatically, be sure both the Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates buttons are turned on by swiping them to the right, turning them green.

When both switches are turned on, your iPhone will download update files to the phone and then install them automatically overnight, when your phone is charging and locked.
If you want to manage updates yourself, or the phone isn't installing updates automatically for some reason, you can do it yourself.
1. Open the Settings app and tap General.
2. On the General page, tap Software Update. Your phone will check to see if there's an update available.
3. If there is an update available, tap Download and Install. Agree to the terms and conditions, and wait while the update downloads to your phone.
4. Finally, tap Install to complete the update.
If your iPhone won't update either manually or automatically, try these troubleshooting methods.
The latest iOS software update, iOS 15, is available for the iPhone 6S and later, as well as the iPhone SE (both first and second generation) and the iPod Touch 7th generation.
This means that if you're still using an iPhone 5S or earlier, you're out of luck. You can view a full list of compatible iPhone versions here.
iOS 15 will take up about 3.24 GB of storage space, but you'll need more than that to successfully install the update. In fact, you'll need a total of about 5GB of free space on your phone to download and install the update.
To see how much free space your phone has right now, open the Settings app, tap General, and select iPhone Storage. The amount of storage you have available will be listed at the top of the iPhone Storage page.

Sometimes it's the little things that will block an iOS update. You should have a strong, reliable WiFi connection and your iPhone needs to have at least 50 percent of battery life remaining.
For the best results, perform the update at home or in the office, where you know you have dependable WiFi. And connect your phone to a dock or charger before starting the update.
Restarting your iPhone can solve any number of small glitches, including corrupted files or other bugs that can interfere with an iOS update.
For details on how to restart your iPhone, see our article on restarting and force-restarting any iPhone model.
On rare occasions, you might run into a glitch and find that your iPhone can't install an update, either automatically or manually. If that happens, you can install it from a PC or Mac.
1. Plug your iPhone into your computer.
2. If you're on a PC, open iTunes. If you're on a Mac, open Finder and click your phone's name in the sidebar.
3. If you see a message on the computer asking if you want to allow the computer to access your iPhone, click Continue. Likewise, tap Trust on your iPhone.
4. In iTunes, click Library and then click the iPhone icon on the left side of the toolbar. In Finder, click General.

5. Click Check for Update.

6. If there's an update available, click Download and Update. Leave your phone connected for as long as it takes to update.

The BBC Breakfast host apologised yesterday for liking “offensive” tweets about a Government minister’s video call backdrop featuring the Union flag. While interviewing Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick, Ms Munchetty and co-host Charlie Stayt laughed after commenting on the flag. Mr Stayt said: “I think your flag is not up to standard size, Government interview measurements. “I think it’s just a little bit small, but that’s your department really. It’s just a thought.”
Ms Munchetty then apologised on Twitter for liking tweets referencing the interview that she said were “offensive”.
She said: “I ‘liked’ tweets today that were offensive in nature about the use of the British flag as a backdrop in a Government interview this morning. I have since removed these ‘likes’.
“This does not represent the views of me or the BBC. I apologise for any offence taken.”
Ms Munchetty previously discussed BBC impartiality following comments she made about Donald Trump in 2019.
The US President at the time was accused of racism after he told a number of female Democratic Party candidates to “go back” where they came from.
Nancy Pelosi labelled the comments “xenophobic”, with Kamala Harris also saying: “Let’s call the President’s racist attack exactly what it is: un-American.”
Ms Munchetty condemned Mr Trump’s comments on BBC Breakfast at the time, and was originally found to have breached editorial conduct rules.
However, the decision was eventually reversed.
Discussing the row a year later, Ms Munchetty said newsreaders are “not robots” and “not idiots”.
She said: “I sit on that sofa as a woman, as a person of colour from an ethnic minority who is not a robot.

“We’re talking about Black Lives Matter now, we’re talking about George Floyd. We are not robots. We are not there to simply, blankly, read the news. That isn’t our job.
“We are judging what viewers need to know and we’re informing them as neutrally but with insight as much as we can. We are impartial but we’re not idiots.”
Following her comments on the Women’s Prize for Fiction podcast, she echoed the sentiments in an interview with British Vogue.
She continued: “One of the balancing acts of being a Breakfast presenter is being comfortable enough to show who you are and your personality.
“You have to show empathy. You cannot sit there and be a robot on that sofa.
“And I do stand by it. It is not OK to use offensive language, or to skirt around offensive language, to make a point or get attention.”

Ms Munchetty opened up about racist abuse she and her family had received in the past.
She said: “My parents have always been absolutely professional and caring as nurses. They came to a country that wasn’t always welcoming to people of colour, to be the best they could be. And they were told to go home all the time.”
But Ms Munchetty said “very positive things” had come out of the Trump incident.
She concluded: “What it has done is raise an uncomfortable conversation that needed to be raised.”
Asked whether the BBC was institutionally racist, Ms Munchetty said: “I’m going to turn this on its head: find me a large organisation, and find me an employee from a minority group who feels they are able to bring their true self to work today.
“I don’t think you’ll be able to.”
Since Lagertha’s demise, Winnick has gone on to star in ABC drama Big Sky alongside the likes of Kylie Bunbury and Brian Geraghty.

Revealing what she’s up to on the big day, Kylie said: “Paul and I, Christmas tree, food, TV and movies.
“It’s going to be very emotional to be able to call back home and be able to celebrate with my family at a distance but celebrate nonetheless.”
Kylie cheekily explained she and Paul share the cooking: “I’ll pour the wine…”
“This Christmas of all Christmases, I think if you want to dress up, knock yourself out, you deserve it,” she added.

Giovanni Pernice and Ranvir Singh wowed the Strictly Come Dancing judges with their passionate Argentine Tango. Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke praised the pair for being the first couple to tackle the notoriously difficult routine. However, before the pair had heard what the judges thought of the dance, Giovanni whispered a sweet message to his partner.
Once the dance had finished, Giovanni whispered “well done” into Ranvir’s ear before they left the dance floor.
Critiquing the dance, Anton said: “It was ooh what a beauty you are, I watched you the whole way round.
“I didn’t smile, I barely blinked then it was over. That is the perfect dance.
“It captured me completely. You have wonderful intensity.

Someone else posted: “Ranvir deserved 10s for simply being able to remember the steps when she had to dance that close to Giovanni pernice in eyeliner #Strictly.”

However, their efforts weren’t enough to hold back Jenny as she wiped them out with less than 20 seconds to spare.
Taking to Twitter, fans commented on the result, with one writing: “I still think three good players are often better than a full house. Often, having four players slows the team down with the answers. #thechase.”
Another added: “I can’t wait for the day when Bradley goes, ‘Have you had a good day?’ and someone just goes, ‘No, it was s**t, I came all the b****y way here and won f*** all’ #TheChase.”
Whilst a third joked: “Producer: ‘Whatever you do you always say you had a great day,’ #TheChase.”

“Al, I would tell you,” Angellica replied. “You’d probably know anyway if I was because we chat all the time.
“I am not doing it, nobody’s called me, no one’s spoken to me, so it’s rumours.
“Rumours, rumours, rumours, not doing it, no, no, no.”
But host Chris wasn’t convinced as he hit back: “I just feel like you’ve protested too much. I think you’re definitely doing it.”
The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm.

Piers Morgan reacted to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s message on the Commonwealth on Good Morning Britain earlier today. The controversial host blasted the couple for stating the Commonwealth “must acknowledge its past” and argued the pair were “virtue-signalling” and their message had no real “substance”.
Piers and Daily Mail editor Andrew Pierce both blasted the pair for “lecturing the world” after stepping down from royal duties earlier this year.
Susanna Reid argued Meghan’s video in the wake of George Flyod’s death was powerful and Piers agreed.
But he argued that message was poignant because the Duchess of Sussex spoke from a place of her own experiences while slamming the couple’s latest message.
“They are powerful young leaders with a voice that they can use,” Susanna argued.

“We’ve already seen Meghan do a video in the wake of the George Floyd killing and that actually had a huge impact.”
“Some people will say, ‘I don’t blame them for using their voices,’” she added.
Piers said: “I thought the difference there was when she talked about that, she talked from her own personal experience of the riots over Rodney King when she lived in LA.”
“I thought actually that had some relevance and pertinence,” he remarked.
“And this sort of irony of saying, ‘It’s time to be uncomfortable,’ well they’re the most comfortable people in the world.”
Later he added: “There’s a serious point to this, these two quit the royal family because they wanted to do their own thing in Hollywood.
“That’s fine, it’s their choice, their life but if they’re going to attack the Commonwealth and the Queen is the head of the Commonwealth…”
“They’re picking a fight with the Queen,” Susanna interjected.
Bjorn Ironside was dealt a fatal blow in the most recent episode of Vikings. As fans wait for the midseason premiere of the History series in lockdown, also available on Amazon Prime, Alexander Ludwig shared a message for his devoted fans.
The entertainment industry has been hit hard by the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.
Many series in the States have been forced to cut their current seasons short, as the pandemic restricts filming schedules and access to the post-production editing rooms.
Although much of season six had been completed, Vikings is no exception as History confirmed filming for the last episodes of the epic historical series has been put on hold.
In the meantime, the cast and crew have been sharing heartfelt messages for fans who may be struggling to cope with the dramatic changes to lives around the world.

Alexander Ludwig, who portrays current lead Bjorn Ironside, found himself celebrating his birthday in lockdown over the weekend.
The now 28-year-old star took over as Vikings’ protagonist when Bjorn’s father, Ragnar Lothbrok (played by Travis Fimmell) was brutally killed in the season four finale.
Millions of people have had to host celebrations for birthdays and other special events without being able to see their family and friends as the pandemic continues.
Alexander celebrated his own birthday by taking the time to share a video on his Instagram account to thank all his loyal fans who sent him messages over the weekend.
Finally, he signed off: “In the meantime, I love you and I hope you have a great day.”
Alexander’s followers were touched by the actor’s kind words, and immediately took to the comments to shower the Vikings star with support and good wishes.
Among them was actress and Alexander’s on-screen mother, Katheryn Winnick, who sent him a kind message in the video’s comments.
Katheryn, who portrays Lagertha on the series, said: “Happy Birthday to one and only @alexanderludwig. Love ya!”
Katheryn was also among the Vikings stars keeping fans motivated during the pandemic, as she recently shared a behind-the-scenes post encouraging viewers to stay at home during the lockdown.
Meanwhile, Gustaf Skarsgård, who plays fan favourite Floki for the series, impressed his fans by posting his poetry addressing world leaders’ poor handling of the COVID crisis.
Vikings fans are hoping to catch one more glimpse of Bjorn in season six before he succumbs to Ivar the Boneless’ (Alex Høgh Andersen) vicious ambush in the midseason finale.
Vikings is hoped to return to History and Amazon Prime at the end of 2020.
