That is the view of Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.

Pogba has had a difficult 2018 having been dropped by Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho numerous occasions and substituted after ineffective performances and reports have suggested the 25-year-old and the Portuguese are not on speaking terms.

But during the international break, Pogba scored from a free-kick and produced an impressive all-round display as France beat Russia on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, despite the possible boost for his confidence, Merson doesn’t think the midfielder will face the Swans.

Merson told Sky Sports: “Man Utd just don’t blow teams away.

“You look at the game and Swansea will sit 11 behind the ball and make it difficult, but Man Utd just don’t have the guile to break teams down.

“I’ve watched them play enough times this season and I don’t see them winning 5-0 or 6-0.

“For me, Paul Pogba has to play where he plays for his country which is further forward because he’s not a holding midfield player.

“I don’t think he’s disciplined enough for that job and he wants to get on the ball and make things happen, but I think there is a bit of a risk there now.

“I’d be shocked if he played, if I’m honest.”

Mourinho has come under criticism this week following Manchester United’s shock Champions League exit to Sevilla.

The Portuguese came out fighting at his press conference yesterday, highlighting United’s failures in European competition in recent years before he came to the club.

But Merson cannot understand why Jose Mourinho would say such a thing about his own club unless he was unhappy in his role.

The former Arsenal forward claims Mourinho may be regretting taking the United job and will be thinking he should have gone to rivals Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain instead.

“It seems to me that he’s trying to make it a bit unrestful at the moment,” Merson said on Sky Sports.

“You look from a distance at the PSG job, you look at that now, he’s probably looked at the Man City one and he’s probably sitting there thinking ‘I think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew here and Man City are a million miles above us and I need to sort of find a way of getting out of here’.

“You don’t talk like he’s talking at the moment.

“You don’t start knocking Manchester United for what they’ve done in the last so many years.

“Them supporters surely aren’t sitting there going ‘he’s right here’. Surely they’re not saying that.

“And then he’s saying to the players they need to grow up. Everything’s about everybody else but not about him at the moment.

“I think this will end soon, I think it will end soon.”

The Gunners failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League and look set to miss out on a top-four finish once again.

Arsene Wenger’s side are 27 points behind league leaders Manchester City ahead of tonight’s clash between the two sides.

Questions are being asked about Wenger’s future once again and Arsenal chiefs have reportedly drawn up a list of potential replacements.

Merson believes a new manager and a string of new seasons are needed for to compete for titles.

But the ex-Gunners forward fears Wenger’s replacement will not be given the time to get the team back to the top.

When asked what Arsenal need the most, Merson told Sky Sports: “You tell me what they don’t need? That might be easier.

“They need a goalkeeper. Petr Cech was great, but he’s not great anymore.

“They need central defenders. You can always get by with full backs, so they are not high on the agenda.

“They need two holding midfield players and they need another centre forward.

“They basically need a whole new spine of the team. Without a good, solid spine you are never going to win the Premier League. This is not anything new either. I’ve been saying this every year for the last 10 years.

“It’s very simple because the players are not good enough to play for Arsenal Football Club. But whoever brought them in, they are not good enough either.

“There now has to be change and for whoever takes it now it was one of the top jobs in world football. It’s not the top job now.

“With what they need and how far they are behind, it’s going to take three, four, five years to catch back up and nowadays, managers get two or three years tops.

“For me, I just don’t see how any new manager can see a job like that through. The change needed now has just become far too much. The job is now a four-year plan to get back to anywhere near where they once were. It’s a very worrying situation!”

Reports in Spain this week have strongly suggested Ronaldo will seek to leave Real in the summer with relations with Florentino Perez at an all-time low.

The Real president is said to be willing to let Ronaldo leave in order to form a new, young front three to rival that of Barcelona.

Harry Kane, Neymar, Mauro Icardi and Eden Hazard have all been touted as potential targets for Los Blancos.

And United are supposedly willing to take advantage of Ronaldo’s current situation by bringing him back to Old Trafford, nine years after leaving the club.

However, Arsenal legend Merson believes it wouldn’t be a smart move for the 32-year-old.

“We’ve got a very good lasting memory of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Premier League,” Merson told Sky Sports’ The Debate show.

“I wouldn’t like to see it.

“You’re talking about one of the best players.

“I got a lasting memory of him as an unbelievable player.

“I wouldn’t like him to come back here and struggle and he could.”

United welcome City to Old Trafford for the first Manchester derby on December 10.

Jose Mourinho has come under scrutiny for his seemingly negative tactics in the big games this term.

The goalless draw away to Liverpool was a proof in point, as United were blunt in attack.

And Merson thinks Mourinho could look to put 10 men behind the ball when City make the short trip across the city next month.

“I don’t see anyone stopping City,” Merson told Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“I can’t wait for the Utd vs City game. You will see something at that game you’ve never seen.

“Man Utd will have to park the bus at home in front of 75,000.

“It will be significant because it is City.

“Look at what City have done.

“Mourinho is very clever – he doesn’t want to start picking fights.”

United beat Brighton 1-0 on Saturday, while City saw off Huddersfield 2-1 on Sunday to remain eight points clear of their rivals at the top of the table.

Mourinho’s men are away to Watford this evening (8pm), while City host Southampton tomorrow (8pm).

Wilshere was left out of the England squad by manager Gareth Southgate for their friendlies with Germany and Brazil, despite a number of players dropping out through injury.

The Arsenal midfielder has been a regular in the team for Europa League and Carabao Cup fixtures but has made just two appearances in the Premier League.

Southgate said his decision to omit Wilshere was because he didn’t think the 25-year-old was being used in his best position.

And Merson believes Wilshere must consider leaving Arsenal in January to push for a place in England’s squad for the World Cup next summer.

“I don’t think Jack is a ten,” Merson told Sky Sports News. 

“I think he is a deeper player, but he is not playing deeper. You’d have to ask Arsene [Wenger] why that was.

“He [Southgate] has called up Jack Cork, who I like and think is a good player, but Jack Wilshere has got to move.

“It is alright Arsene Wenger saying a fit Jack Wilshere gets in the England team, but you have to play for Arsenal. But at the same time, [Jesse] Lingard has started less games than Wilshere.

“The way he plays, I think going abroad probably suits him and his game, otherwise he is going to go to a relegation-battling team, and that is not his game.

“He needs to get on the ball and play football and be in a team that really are going to have a lot more of the ball than not. So probably abroad to an AC Milan or somewhere like that.”

The pair have endured a frosty relationship over the years with Merson constantly bemoaning Arsenal and Arsene Wenger on Sky Sports.

Reports suggest 49-year-old Merson could make a return to football with Welsh fourth-tier team Caerau but Wenger had no time for questions about lower league football when he was previewing his side’s trip to Watford on Saturday (5.30pm).

When asked to comment on the 49-year-old Sky Sports pundit making a return to the game Wenger snapped: “We speak about professional football here.”

His comments come after Merson took aim at the Frenchman by claiming the Gunners could win the Premier League if he was a bit more like Harry Redknapp.

“People say he’s [Redknapp] a wheeler-dealer and it’s so disrespectful,” Merson said on Sky One’s A League of Their Own.

“Tactically, he’s one of the best I’ve worked with. If Arsene Wenger had Harry Redknapp’s tactical nous, Arsenal would win the league.”

Wenger and Merson’s war of words stems from comments the latter made about the Gunners in 2014 when he described them as playing like an under-12 team after throwing away a three-goal lead against Anderlecht.

And the French boss hit back with the response: “These debates that I hear are a joke, a farce.

“People who have managed altogether zero games, they teach everybody how you should behave. It’s a farce.

“If I really cared, do you think I would have survived for 18 years? I managed Paul Merson…I tried. I’m not interested in him.”

Romelu Lukaku was widely expected to leave Everton for Chelsea earlier in the summer.

The Belgium international had been earmarked as a priority signing for the Blues, with manager Antonio Conte ordering Roman Abramovich to get a deal done.

However, in a stunning transfer twist, Lukaku ended up joining Manchester United for £75million instead.

The striker is already up and running for the new season, bagging a consolation as the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in the European Super Cup earlier in the week.

Chelsea have since smashed their transfer record by signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid in a £70m deal.

And Merson thinks the Spain international is a better fit – believing Lukaku does not have the intelligence to play alongside Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas. 

“Alvaro Morata is a top player but how long will it take him to settle?” he told the Daily Star.

“I don’t think Chelsea missed out on Romelu Lukaku. Morata is a better fit for them. But he’ll need time to adapt to English football.

“Lukaku’s not bright enough to play with Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas.

“He needs the ball over the top, and he’ll get that at Manchester United.

“But I still don’t think United have enough to open teams up. They don’t have enough guile.”

Lukaku is expected to start when United face West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday (4pm).

Arsenal head into the clash with their hopes of a top-four finish all but over following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. 

Meanwhile Manchester United’s best hope of gaining a Champions League place next year now appears to be through the Europa League. 

And Merson believes Arsenal will beat United 3-0 as Jose Mourinho will be resting players for the Europa League. 

“Arsenal are certainties in my opinion,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“It’s all about timing at the end of the season and this game is perfect timing for the Gunners. United could win their next four Premier League games 5-0 and still finish fifth in the league. 

“On the other hand, they might only have to win two Europa League games to qualify for the Champions League. I don’t see anything but wholesale changes for Jose Mourinho for this game.

“It would be interesting to see what would happen with Mourinho’s selections if Manchester City lost to Crystal Palace. 

“It would present United with another opportunity of sneaking into the top four and while he has said he will rest players, would a negative result for City change his mind?

“I don’t think so. I’d be shocked if any of the big guns played at the Emirates on Sunday. 

“The wholesale changes put severe pressure on Arsene Wenger. They will be playing a second string side in my opinion and if they can’t beat an under-strength Manchester United, huge pressure will be put on the Frenchman. He would probably prefer to be playing United’s first team.

“I’m backing Arsenal for a big 3-0 win and before Manchester United fans go ballistic I’m only backing that result because of my theory. If it was different I’d back the draw because Mourinho can get a draw at will.”
