Line of Duty fans have been waiting eagerly to find out whether the cast and crew of the BBC hit crime drama is back up and filming the highly-anticipated next series after coronavirus shut it all down. But it looks like we’ve got longer to wait than originally thought – “Mother of God” as dear old Ted Hastings (played by Adrian Dunbar) would say.

Series 5 left viewers reeling as we finally found out who H really is.

Well, who they are, because it turned out it was a whole group of them!

And yes, you can give yourself a point if you thought it was one of the three DC Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and DCI Kate Felming (Vicky McClure) identified as part of the four police staff in league with organised crime – Assistant Chief Constable Derek Hilton, legal counsel Gill Biggeloe and DCI Dot Cottan.

But there’s one more to find and season 6 will hopefully answer all our questions to finally find out the great big mystery.

And while many productions have a date in mind when they will resume filming, it seems Line of Duty doesn’t.

Series 5 introduced us to king(ish) pin Lisa McQueen who is portrayed by Rochenda Sandall, one of the key figures who plays a pivotal figure in a deadly organised crime group alongside Stephen Graham’s character John Corbett.

Near the end of the series, she ended up in police custody and was granted immunity from prosecution in exchange for testimony about senior members of the crime ring.

Speaking to Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy, Rochenda revealed what the future looks like for the popular drama.

“They were filming the sixth series but they stopped and unfortunately I don’t think that’s going to start until…” she trailed off as she explained screenwriter Jed Mercurio worked in the medical profession before his career in TV and has a good perception as to when it will be a good and safe time to resume filming.

“He has a super awareness of this I imagine. He’s got a wider knowledge than most, so I don’t think he’ll start until its absolutely A-OK to do so.”

“It just means that the fans have got to wait an extra year!”

Trying to make light of the bad news, she said that despite the big wait we have ahead, we’ve all done it before.

DON’T MISS…

“There was a two year break between series] four and five – in think it’s wroth the wait!” she whispered cheekily.

AC-12 had reunited on set earlier this year pre COVID-19 lockdown, with filming photos and behind-the-scenes snaps starting to filter through to our social media feeds, gearing us all up for the return of our favourite Anti Corruption unit.

“We will be back at some point again to get them finished and I hope they’ll be back bigger and better and longer!”, Martin Compston assured fans everywhere when appearing on Good Morning Britain recently.

In mid-May, the BBC shows such as EastEnders and Top Gear were given the all-clear to resume filming from June but creator Jed made it clear that they wouldn’t be rushing back.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

‘Widows’ Featurette: How Chicago Shapes The Steve McQueen Heist Thriller https://briefnews.eu/widows-featurette-how-chicago-shapes-the-steve-mcqueen-heist-thriller/ https://briefnews.eu/widows-featurette-how-chicago-shapes-the-steve-mcqueen-heist-thriller/#respond Mon, 15 Oct 2018 09:17:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/widows-featurette-how-chicago-shapes-the-steve-mcqueen-heist-thriller/ widows featurette

“We’re after the truth. I don’t go to a location with a stencil. I adapt to the environment,” reads a quote by director Steve McQueen at the beginning of the newest Widows featurette about the film’s Chicago location. The gritty heist thriller, penned by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, is set in the Windy City, and couldn’t take place anywhere else. The featurette dives into why that is, and how Chicago helped shape the highly anticipated movie.

Widows Featurette

Though Widows adapts a 1983 British series of the same name, McQueen and Flynn’s version is inextricably tied to Chicago. The filmmaker and author co-wrote the screenplay together — in Flynn’s first work as screenwriter — and thus wanted to ground the story in a time and place that could bring together the dramatically different characters played by Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, and Cynthia Erivo. In a new featurette released by 20th Century Fox, McQueen and Flynn explain why that place had to be Chicago, Illinois.  McQueen says in the featurette:

“The location for the setting of Widows was very strategic. I wanted an environment that dealt with current-day issues. Race, politics, crime, policing. Chicago is the epicenter of all of that.”

“The extremes that you see are pretty spectacular,” McQueen adds. “Within 50 meters you could see the richest of environments to the poorest.”

At this point, moviegoers may best know Chicago onscreen as the location doubling for Gotham City in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight — which Widows may unintentionally recall in various heist and chase scenes sprinkled throughout this featurette. The site of the famous tunnel chase in The Dark Knight is shown in this featurette, as Viola Davis narrates, “It creates a whole story, a full picture, as opposed to something that’s contrived and imagined. When people see this movie, they’re going to really be in it. They’re gonna believe it.”

Maybe it’s just me, but that part of the featurette feels kind of like a jab at the “imagined” world of the Dark Knight and like a message to audiences saying, here’s the real Chicago. But that won’t stop me from looking forward to this movie, which has a murderer’s row of talent in front of the screen (Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Jacki Weaver, Carrie Coon, Robert Duvall, and Liam Neeson round out the supporting cast) and behind the screen.

Speaking of behind the screen, here’s another Widows featurette spotlighting the work of McQueen, who directed the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave.

Here is the official synopsis for Widows:

From Academy Award®-winning director Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”) and co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn (“Gone Girl”) comes a blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption. “Widows” is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar® winner Viola Davis), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.

Widows opens in theaters on November 16, 2018.

Trailer Round-Up: ‘Orange Is The New Black’, ‘Witch’, ‘McQueen’, ‘The Children Act’, ‘Yardie’, ‘Insecure’ https://briefnews.eu/trailer-round-up-orange-is-the-new-black-witch-mcqueen-the-children-act-yardie-insecure/ https://briefnews.eu/trailer-round-up-orange-is-the-new-black-witch-mcqueen-the-children-act-yardie-insecure/#respond Fri, 08 Jun 2018 12:55:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/trailer-round-up-orange-is-the-new-black-witch-mcqueen-the-children-act-yardie-insecure/ witch trailer

We’ve cast our nets into the sea of content and hauled in a fresh batch of movie trailers, just for you. In this trailer roundup, you’ll see trailers for the new season of Orange Is The New Black, the Korean supernatural action flick Witch, the documentary McQueen, the courtroom drama The Children Act, the Idris Elba-directed Yardie, and Insecure season 3.

Orange Is The New Black season 6 will leave Litchfield behind for a whole new prison. And based on this trailer, the show is going to only get more intense. The series has already been renewed for a seventh season as well, so you’ll have a whole lot more of Orange Is The New Black in your life. This teaser doesn’t really offer any new footage of the upcoming season, but it does confirm the Netflix premiere date: July 27, 2018.

I Saw The Devil director Park Hoon-jung is back with Witch, a Korean supernatural action film that looks all kinds of awesome. This Witch trailer doesn’t have English subtitles, so it might be hard to make out what the film is about. But based on the visuals alone, it’s going to be one hell of a movie. Witch tells the story of a teenage girl who “lost her memory and then was raised by an elderly couple. She runs runs into mysterious people one day and there the adventure begins.” There’s no official release date yet, but keep your eyes peeled.

The life of controversial fashion designer Alexander McQueen is explored in McQueen, a new documentary from Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui. Many aspects of McQueen’s caused controversy, often giving collections names like “Highland Rape.” McQueen committed suicide in 2010, but his designs are still worn today. McQueen opens in limited release July 20, 2018.

Exploring the life of British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who started his career in his teens before gaining notice as designer for Givenchy and launching his own label, which continues to this day. He took his own life in 2010.

The Children Act, based on a novel by Ian McEwan, is “a compelling and powerful drama telling the story of Fiona Maye (Emma Thompson), an eminent high court judge presiding over ethically complex cases. As the demands of her job cause her marriage to Jack (Stanley Tucci) to reach tipping point, Fiona is asked to rule on the case of Adam (Fionn Whitehead), a brilliant young boy who is refusing a life-saving blood transfusion on religious grounds. With her private life in turmoil, Fiona finds herself drawn into the case, taking the unorthodox step of halting proceedings in order to visit Adam in hospital. As the two form a profound connection and powerful emotions come to light, Fiona’s judgement is put to the test with momentous consequences as she must ultimately decide whether Adam lives or dies.” I’m not big on courtroom dramas, but this looks promising. And any movie that has Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci acting their heads off is worth seeing. The Children Act opens in UK & Irish cinemas August 24, 2018.

Idris Elba makes his directorial debut with Yardie, a film set in ‘70s Jamaica and ‘80s London that “centers on the story of ‘D’ (Aml Ameen) who embarks on an explosive quest for retribution following the death of his brother.” ““I’ve been vocal about how much Hackney and that part of east London influenced me as a young man,” Elba said of the film, “so making a film about someone I can relate to made it easier for me. I could put a lot of myself into it. I could almost imagine the audience who might respond to the film.” Yardie opens in the U.K. August 24, 2018.

Issa Rae’s Insecure is back for a third season on HBO. The series “explores the black female experience. Rae stars as Issa and Yvonne Orji stars as Molly. Over the course of the season, Issa attempts to figure out what she wants out of life and how to take control of it, while fumbling her way through this journey. Molly, a corporate attorney who appears to have everything together professionally, struggles inside as she looks for external ways to fix her life. Meanwhile, Issa’s boyfriend, Lawrence (Jay Ellis), who has fallen victim to complacency, works to get his own act together. Frieda (Lisa Joyce), Issa’s overeager white co-worker, whose enthusiasm is both annoying and endearing, is at the crux of Issa’s racial frustrations at work.” The series returns Sunday, August 12 at 10:30 on HBO.

Ford shows new Ranger truck, a spicy SUV, and a McQueen Mustang in Detroit https://briefnews.eu/ford-shows-new-ranger-truck-a-spicy-suv-and-a-mcqueen-mustang-in-detroit/ https://briefnews.eu/ford-shows-new-ranger-truck-a-spicy-suv-and-a-mcqueen-mustang-in-detroit/#respond Mon, 15 Jan 2018 15:08:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ford-shows-new-ranger-truck-a-spicy-suv-and-a-mcqueen-mustang-in-detroit/

Ford

DETROIT—On Sunday, Ford kicked off the start of the North American International Auto Show with a trio of new models. The event was in contrast to the company’s appearance at CES; that was a forward-looking affair with a vision of the future; Detroit rather was all about real vehicles available soon. There was a new midsize truck with the return of the Ranger. The Edge SUV gets a performance variant. And to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the best car chases of all time, there’s a special Mustang.

But those hoping to for hybridization or an all-electric Ford will have to be patient. Although the company announced it would increase its investment in battery electric vehicles to $ 11 billion, it is lagging behind rivals; neither the hybrid F-150 truck nor the Mach-1—a performance battery electric vehicle, possibly derived from the Mustang—will be ready until 2020.

Ford just unveiled a Mustang that references a legendary movie car chase starring Steve McQueen (F) https://briefnews.eu/ford-just-unveiled-a-mustang-that-references-a-legendary-movie-car-chase-starring-steve-mcqueen-f/ https://briefnews.eu/ford-just-unveiled-a-mustang-that-references-a-legendary-movie-car-chase-starring-steve-mcqueen-f/#respond Mon, 15 Jan 2018 04:28:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ford-just-unveiled-a-mustang-that-references-a-legendary-movie-car-chase-starring-steve-mcqueen-f/ Bullitt Ford Mustang 2018 Detroit auto showFord

  • Ford unveiled a new special-edition Mustang to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the the film “Bullitt.”
  • The original “Bullitt” Mustang was also on hand for the reveal in Detroit.
  • The Bullitt ‘Stang edges the current Mustang GT for performance.

The most famous car chase in cinematic history involved Steve McQueen in a 1968 Mustang, dark green, and some hit men in a Dodge Charger. Even if you haven’t seen the ’68 film, “Bullitt,” you might be able to guess who came out on top.

Ford celebrated the 50th anniversary of the film by pulling the cover off a limited edition “Bullitt” Mustang at the Detroit auto show.

“As a special-edition model due out this summer, the all-new Mustang Bullitt is equipped with a manual transmission, and the gear shifter features a white cue ball shift knob as a nod to the original,” Ford said in a statement.

“The vehicle packages all Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package content into a vehicle that maintains the original Bullitt’s understated persona.”

The car McQueen drove was pretty minimalist — a suitable ride for the actor’s taciturn, low-key San Francisco cop, in his sixties-cool tweed jacket and turtlenecks.

The new ‘Stang isn’t holding back, although you can get in the “Dark Highland Green” paint job that McQueen’s Mustang sported.

The motor has been “upgraded [to a] 5.0-liter, V8 … that will deliver at least 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, pushing the new Bullitt to a top speed of 163 mph — an 8 mph increase versus the latest Mustang GT,” Ford said in a statement.

In a nod to history, Ford rolled out the original Bullitt Mustang — an exceptionally rare machine, one of two that were used in the film — to commemorate the occasion.

“After filming, the cars went their separate ways: the hero vehicle driven by McQueen in the movie was sold by Warner Bros. to a private buyer, and the other — used in many of the jumps during the famous chase scene — was sent to a salvage yard,” Ford said.

“That jumper vehicle resurfaced in Baja, California, in early 2017, but the other was lost to history.”

The car reappeared and was on hand to welcome the new Bullitt ‘Stang to the world. Eagle-eyed McQueen fans will also note the lack of badging on the new ‘Stang — just like the King of Cool’s 1968 ride.

Cars 3 review: Lightning McQueen is feeling his age in new Pixar cartoon https://briefnews.eu/cars-3-review-lightning-mcqueen-is-feeling-his-age-in-new-pixar-cartoon/ https://briefnews.eu/cars-3-review-lightning-mcqueen-is-feeling-his-age-in-new-pixar-cartoon/#respond Sat, 15 Jul 2017 23:45:11 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cars-3-review-lightning-mcqueen-is-feeling-his-age-in-new-pixar-cartoon/

Cars 3 (3D, U, 109 mins)

Director: Brian Fee

Stars: Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer, Cristela Alonzo

But time really does seems to catch up with the racing heroes of Disney-Pixar’s talking vehicle franchise.

After Dusty Crophopper packed it in to become a firefighter in Planes 2, Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is feeling his age in Cars 3.

A new generation of racing cars have left him in the dust.

He still has his fans but terms like “veteran” and “legend” suggest they could be about to wave the chequered flag on his glittering career.

So the depressed racer turns to new trainer Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo) and a flashy new sponsor who has plans for a merchandise-flogging swan song.

The tills in the Disney Stores should keep ringing, too, thanks to a string of slick and moderately exciting racing scenes.

Parents are more likely to appreciate the moral of the tale: once again, this is about a hero putting ego aside to learn the values of teamwork and self-sacrifice.

If terrible tots take that home with them, then everyone’s a winner.

Fit for a Duchess! Kate Middleton's mum Carole COPIES £4k McQueen dress for Wimbledon https://briefnews.eu/fit-for-a-duchess-kate-middletons-mum-carole-copies-4k-mcqueen-dress-for-wimbledon/ https://briefnews.eu/fit-for-a-duchess-kate-middletons-mum-carole-copies-4k-mcqueen-dress-for-wimbledon/#respond Wed, 12 Jul 2017 13:47:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fit-for-a-duchess-kate-middletons-mum-carole-copies-4k-mcqueen-dress-for-wimbledon/

Kate’s dress cost £4,000 from Alexander McQueen, and featured a red broderie anglaise pattern and buttons down the front.

Carole’s dress is very similar, but in blue, and also features popper buttons down the front.

The neckline on Carole’s dress differed from her daughter’s, with the collar being looser to the one on Kate’s design.

She paired the dress with a navy leather clutch and navy peep toe shoes.

The skirt featured a tiered design, whilst the waistline had a white ribbon to show off Carole’s trim figure.

The dress also featured sleeves which stopped at the elbow and were finished with a white trim to match the waist detail.

Unlike other days the Middleton matriarch has spent at the tennis, Carole did not wear sunglasses.

Carole was joined by husband Michael for her day of tennis, who wore a pair of cream chinos and a navy blue jacket.

Earlier this week, Carole stepped out in a blue floral dress for Wimbledon.

Carole’s dress had a demure round neckline and short sleeves.

Fitted to the waist, the dress then loosened slightly on the bottom half and featured a slight ruffled hem.

Carole paired the dress with a pair of nude block heel sandals and nude leather handbag.

For her first visit to the tennis, Carole wore white, just like the players.

The dress featured a demure round neckline and short sleeves, and came down to Carole’s knee.

She paired the dress with a neutral Chanel quilted handbag and nude peep-toe wedges.

Protecting her eyes from the glare of the sun, Carole wore a pair of round framed sunglasses.

Watch: Lightning McQueen Gets His Own ESPN ’30 for 30′ Documentary Short https://briefnews.eu/watch-lightning-mcqueen-gets-his-own-espn-30-for-30%e2%80%b2-documentary-short/ https://briefnews.eu/watch-lightning-mcqueen-gets-his-own-espn-30-for-30%e2%80%b2-documentary-short/#respond Sat, 17 Jun 2017 11:58:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/watch-lightning-mcqueen-gets-his-own-espn-30-for-30%e2%80%b2-documentary-short/ Lightning McQueen 30 for 30 video

The time has come for Lightning McQueen to prove whether he still has some race left in him in Pixar Animation’s sequel, Cars 3. The next chapter in the racer’s story sees his career on the verge of ending as Jackson Storm and a whole crew of high-tech race cars enter the fray, leaving him as the resident old man on the track.

Now ESPN has chronicled Lightning McQueen’s career in a documentary short called 95: The Untold Story of Lightning McQueen, inspired by their acclaimed 30 for 30 series.

Watch the Lightning McQueen 30 for 30 video below.

The short, which is really a trailer for an episode of 30 for 30 that doesn’t really exist, goes through the events of the first movie that led to the career that Lightning McQueen may have taken away from him in Cars 3. But much like the new sequel, it completely ignores any of the events of Cars 2, which is kind of a shame.

Even though Cars 2 is family friendly nonsense, even when only compared to the decent but unimpressive original film, the fact that Lightning McQueen had a period in his life when he had to accompany his friend Mater through a dangerous espionage adventure across the globe would be a rather interesting story to cover in a documentary like this. Has there ever been a situation where a professional athlete was caught up in something that crazy?

Honestly, this video makes me wish that Pixar took the time to create a longer 30 for 30 segment about Lightning McQueen with new animation of interviews with other characters from the Cars franchise. How cool would it have been to see some kind of mockumentary focusing on Lightning McQueen during this part of his career, especially if it was directed by Morgan Spurlock? It might have made for an even more interesting Cars 3, even though the one Pixar came up with is a solid sequel.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo), with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!

Cars 3 is in theaters everywhere starting today.

If you haven’t heard the name Sphero before, they’re the company that came out with the frequently in-demand, app-controlled, interactive toy version of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens droid BB-8. The high-priced item was a popular Christmas gift that flew off the shelves, and it even received a cool update not too long ago that allows users to control the droid like they’re using the Force.

Now Sphero has created a toy tied to one of Disney’s other lucrative sequels, Pixar Animation’s Cars 3. The electronic toy company has created one of the most lifelike toys of race car Lightning McQueen that have ever been made, complete with animated eyes, an animatronic mouth, emotive suspension and the voice of Owen Wilson, just like the character in the Cars franchise.

Check out the Sphero Lightning McQueen toy after the jump.

Here’s a cool trailer showing off what the Sphero Lightning McQueen toy can do:

In addition to just driving Lightning McQueen around, users can train for their next big race by playing games and experience other interactive features like watching Disney Pixar’s original Cars movie with Ultimate Lightning McQueen in “Watch With Me” mode, where he reacts to the movie in real-time.

Even though I don’t own a single piece of Cars memorabilia, I have to admit this is a pretty impressive little item, and kids will absolutely love it. However, this high-tech item doesn’t come cheap. The Sphero Lightning McQueen toy will cost you $ 300 plus tax, which is double what their BB-8 cost when it first hit the shelf.

Proving that No. 95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!

Directed by Brian Fee (storyboard artist Cars, Cars 2), produced by Kevin Reher (A Bug’s Life, La Luna short) and co-produced by Andrea Warren (LAVA short), Cars 3 races into theaters on June 16.
