Conor McGregor has come a long way from working a plumbing job in Ireland.

On Saturday, November 6, McGregor will return to the Octagon for the first time since 2016 to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor comes into the match sporting a 21-3 record and a reputation as one of the hardest-hitting, most entertaining, and overall best fighters.

We took a look back at McGregor’s professional bout history, starting in 2008 to now, and looked up what all of his old opponents are up to. Many have since left the fighting game, some have opened gyms, and some are still in the MMA game. And one, of course, is one of the most famous boxers ever who still lives life large.

Records and fight information came from ESPN, Sherdog, and Tapology.

Here’s where all 24 of McGregor’s opponents are today.

McGregor made his MMA debut on March 8, 2008, beating Gary Morris by TKO.

Morris posted an 8-10 record as a fighter, with his last fight coming in 2016. It’s unclear what he does today.

Two months later, McGregor took on Mo Taylor in his second fight. McGregor won by TKO, though it was close at one point, as Taylor got McGregor in a tough arm bar.

Though Star Wars: The Last Jedi has proven divisive, one of the film’s most memorable moments surely brought joy to even the most cold hearts. Yes, of course I’m talking about the hilarious scene where Chewie attempts to eat a delicious roasted porg but gets guil ttripped by a number of the cute critters, including a particularly distraught little one! Disney clearly knows when they’re onto something good, as they posted a great official pic of the saddest of Ahch-To’s inhabitants.

Rey's Parents The Last Jedi

One of the biggest reveals of The Last Jedi was the parentage of Rey, as Rian Johnson went a pretty radical route that once again left fans split down the middle. If you were one of those fans unhappy with the choice, don’t fear. In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, Johnson stated that it could still change in Episode IX. But then again, maybe he’s just being polite.

Reddit User HenroTee noticed an interesting nod to Star Wars in Zack Snyder’s much maligned Man of Steel. The shot in question shows Supes flying through a crumbling building which looks very similar to a famous scene in our favorite space opera. Well spotted!

Rose Tico is one of the standout new additions to Star Wars canon after her grand debut in The Last Jedi. And artist Ines Brandt has created this wonderful homage to not one, but two special Rosies with this rad Rose Tico the Riveter fan art that we absolutely adore!

Storm-Trooper-Changing room

Another treat from Reddit this week: user Vienna95 shared this gorgeous backstage photo of the dressing room where Stormtroopers prepared whilst filming The Force Awakens. This led to many Redditors expressing their gratitude that J.J. Abrams didn’t go the prequels route and CGI all of his troopers.

Caretakers last jedi

Collider was lucky enough to sit down and chat with Star Wars character designer Neal Scanlan for a deep dive into his wild imagination. There are a whole bunch of treats in this interview, but most importantly, he reassures fans that Luke’s green milk was not as gross as it looked and was adjusted in post to look even more disgusting.

Star Wars Explained has been extra busy since the release of The Last Jedi and they don’t look like they’re planning to stop with this SUPERSIZE 35-minute long edition that answers 25 burning questions about the latest entry in the Star Wars franchise. From the possible redemption of Kylo Rey to the much contested Gray Jedi, this video has a lot of rad facts and probably answers a few of the queries that you left the movie with.

Another great video from Star Wars Explained delves into the recently released new Star Wars novel The Last Jedi: Cobalt Squadron. Like Conor McGregor himself, the Floyd Mayweather bout will be the first boxing match for McGregor’s coaches also.

According to a profile of McGregor’s upbringing in Dublin, Ireland from ESPN’s Wright Thompson, McGregor’s coaches have never “cornered” a boxing match.

John Kavanagh, McGregor’s main coach, owns an MMA gym in Dublin which is how he first met McGregor.

However, despite their own relative inexperience with boxing, McGregor’s coaches apparently didn’t want to hire new coaches with more boxing experience for a peculiar reason — too much change “would be a disaster.”

Thompson called this McGregor’s “fight or flight” attitude. Some of it may be a product of growing up in a rough neighborhood in Dublin where drugs and violence were rampant, and some of it is inherent.

From Thompson:

“Even now, he lives in a near-constant state of fight or flight, and while some of that comes from where and when Conor grew up, Kavanagh thinks it’s more nature than nurture. There’s just something in the way Conor is wired. That’s one of the reasons Kavanagh didn’t bring in coaches with more boxing experience. Too much new stuff, by someone who didn’t approach Conor’s psyche like a squirrel, would be a disaster.“

Thompson also wrote that McGregor can be “fragile,” while McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy said, “You got to be very cautious what you say around Conor.”

One particular anecdote showcased McGregor’s apparent wariness to certain situations. After learning of the fight agreement, McGregor’s team built a boxing ring in an abandoned car dealership, and got a mural painted of McGregor punching Mayweather. When they brought McGregor to the location for the first time, eager to show him the mural, McGregor was reportedly uneasy by the unusual setting and people he didn’t recognize. Wrote Thompson:

“Kavanagh asked McGregor later about that reaction; he’s spent a lot of time trying to figure out Conor, to understand the root causes of his paranoia and suspicion.

“‘Why are you looking over your shoulder?'” Kavanagh asked.

“‘I thought I was going to get jumped,'” Conor told him.”

It’s a revealing look behind the curtain at one of sports’ most entertaining figures. McGregor is the picture of bravado and confidence in most public situations, but behind that is apparently a natural uneasiness.

Most assume McGregor is in over his head against Mayweather, however, McGregor seems to embrace the challenge, regardless of how overmatched he may be.

Until August 26, it will be unclear how ready McGregor is for the challenge and how he will be affected by not training with boxing purists. The reason behind his nontraditional set of coaches for a boxing match forms an interesting dichotomy with his reason for taking on the fight.

Conor McGregor’s team built a boxing ring on the fly in an abandoned car dealership in 4 days after learning of the Floyd Mayweather fight https://briefnews.eu/conor-mcgregors-team-built-a-boxing-ring-on-the-fly-in-an-abandoned-car-dealership-in-4-days-after-learning-of-the-floyd-mayweather-fight/ https://briefnews.eu/conor-mcgregors-team-built-a-boxing-ring-on-the-fly-in-an-abandoned-car-dealership-in-4-days-after-learning-of-the-floyd-mayweather-fight/#respond Mon, 07 Aug 2017 17:54:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/conor-mcgregors-team-built-a-boxing-ring-on-the-fly-in-an-abandoned-car-dealership-in-4-days-after-learning-of-the-floyd-mayweather-fight/ conor mcgregorJohn Misa/AP

Despite months and months of rumored build-up, it seems like even Conor McGregor’s team wasn’t prepared for a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather to actually take place.

According to ESPN’s Wright Thompson, when McGregor’s trainer learned a fight would indeed happen, his team had to scramble to put together a boxing ring where McGregor could train.

According to Thompson, one of McGregor’s coaches, John Kavanagh, owner of an MMA gym that McGregor began training in when he was young, scrambled to put together a ring.

The result was a haphazard gym in an abandoned car dealership in a strip mall:

“When [Kavanagh] got a text message from Conor saying the fight was a go — it arrived at 6:10 on a Wednesday night, June 14 — he realized he didn’t have a place for a boxer to train. There were only four days to create one. He called the owner of the strip mall that houses his gym and asked about borrowing an abandoned car dealership down at the end. He got the keys and began cleaning. They hung a sheet between the showroom and the repair bays and set up the gym in the back. John got racks built for the bags. He traded favors to get an electrician to turn on the power. A plumber got the water running and installed a shower. He found a competition boxing ring out of England and had it brought to Ireland on a ferry.”

Additionally, Kavanagh commissioned a local art collective to paint a mural of McGregor punching Mayweather in the face. McGregor, according to the trainer, is a tough person to master mentally, and Kavanagh believed having McGregor see the mural every day would improve his approach and mentality for the fight.

Here’s a picture of the mural:

How his roots gave him little choice but to become a fighter: https://t.co/Cs7T57G8Cj pic.twitter.com/OHYaMXlBEP

The ring apparently met McGregor’s needs until he and his team moved their training to the US to prepare for the August 26 fight in Las Vegas. However, it doesn’t necessarily shed the fears that McGregor is way in over his head.

Kavanagh and his team have never coached a boxing match before, and, according to Thompson, didn’t hire more experienced coaches out of fear of throwing off McGregor’s mindset. Thompson wrote: “That’s one of the reasons Kavanagh didn’t bring in coaches with more boxing experience. Too much new stuff, by someone who didn’t approach Conor’s psyche like a squirrel, would be a disaster.”

However, the hope for McGregor’s chances in the ring are pinned to one thing — his desire to push the limits. Kavanagh told Thompson that when the deal was done, McGregor did not care about the potential $ 100 million payday, but about taking on a big challenge and proving people wrong.

The odds are still stacked against McGregor, but that is apparently how he likes it.

‘He’s gonna get killed’ — Mike Tyson weighs in on McGregor’s chances against Mayweather https://briefnews.eu/hes-gonna-get-killed-mike-tyson-weighs-in-on-mcgregors-chances-against-mayweather/ https://briefnews.eu/hes-gonna-get-killed-mike-tyson-weighs-in-on-mcgregors-chances-against-mayweather/#respond Sun, 30 Jul 2017 18:54:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hes-gonna-get-killed-mike-tyson-weighs-in-on-mcgregors-chances-against-mayweather/ Mike Tyson with pigeonAP Photo/Nick Ut

As the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor draws nearer, more and more experts are making their predictions for how the bout will go.

The vast majority of the boxing world believes Mayweather will handle McGregor with relative ease, giving the mixed martial artist little chance of beating one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all time in the ring.

But there are others who believe McGregor has a chance to land a knockout blow in the first four rounds as he promised during the pair’s promotional tour, due to McGregor’s striking ability, Mayweather’s problems with south paws, and the new angles the Irishman will be using.

Count Iron Mike Tyson in the former group. In a recent appearance on ESPN’s “Pardon My Take,” Tyson expressed plainly what he believes will happen in the upcoming bout. “He’s gonna get killed,” Tyson said. “[McGregor] put his dumb a– in a position where he’s gonna get knocked out. Cause this guy’s been doing this all his life. Since he was a little baby.”

McGregor’s disadvantages were obvious to the former heavyweight champion. “[McGregor] can’t kick and grab and stuff,” Tyson said. “He’s not going to stand much of a chance.”

Tyson also expressed disappointment in the fact that the fight will be taking place on in the ring, rather than in the Octagon. “I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?”

For now, the fight in the ring will have to suffice for Tyson. Mayweather and McGregor will face off in Las Vegas on August 26th.

Former UFC fighter believes one of Conor McGregor’s perceived weaknesses could pay off against Floyd Mayweather https://briefnews.eu/former-ufc-fighter-believes-one-of-conor-mcgregors-perceived-weaknesses-could-pay-off-against-floyd-mayweather/ https://briefnews.eu/former-ufc-fighter-believes-one-of-conor-mcgregors-perceived-weaknesses-could-pay-off-against-floyd-mayweather/#respond Sun, 23 Jul 2017 08:51:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/former-ufc-fighter-believes-one-of-conor-mcgregors-perceived-weaknesses-could-pay-off-against-floyd-mayweather/ conor mcgregorMichael Reaves/Getty

In the lead-up to Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s mega-fight, many have doubted McGregor’s ability to learn years worth of boxing training over the course of a few months.

After all, Mayweather sports a perfect 49-0 career record and is one of the quickest, most evasive fighters boxing has ever seen.

While McGregor is one of the best fighters in the world, he has specialized in several styles of fighting, as opposed to just the one he’ll have to use against a master of the style.

However, according to Mike Brown, a former UFC fighter and current MMA trainer, McGregor’s training in MMA-style boxing could actually be an advantage. While some point to McGregor’s size and power as his biggest advantages, Brown told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that he thinks Mayweather could catch Mayweather off-guard with an MMA-style approach.

“McGregor is a big guy, maybe the biggest guy Mayweather has ever fought or close to it. He’s a southpaw and he’s doesn’t move like a traditional boxer. So, the angles Mayweather is used to seeing are slightly off.

“All of those variables tip it a little to Conor’s favor. Not like he’s a favorite, but there are some things that make this a little different from a normal boxing fight. McGregor could never win a decision, obviously. The only way he can win is getting Mayweather with a shot that he doesn’t see coming, hurting him and finishing him. You never know if that big shot could land.”

Brown also pointed to Mayweather’s age as an area where McGregor could benefit.

While few would agree that the fight tips in McGregor’s favor, some of the MMA trainers that spoke to Okamoto echoed similar thoughts — McGregor could stand a chance if he uses size, power, and attacks Mayweather quickly.

One trainer, Robert Follis of Xtreme Couture, said he thinks McGregor may even benefit from trying to box “dirty” against Mayweather to wear him out.

“If he can go in there and hang on his head, dirty box, take warnings from the referee, lose a point even — but potentially wear on him and be physical with him — Muhammad Ali did that in several fights….

“It’s pretty tough for them to disqualify someone in that big of a fight, you know what I mean? Minus biting Floyd’s ear or throwing him out of the ring, he can get away with hanging on the head and dirty boxing. If he does round after round and then unleashes some of that power?”

McGregor simply can’t catch up to Mayweather’s lifetime of training by August 26, the day of the bout. But while many believed that McGregor will have to receive classic boxing training in the lead-up to the event, perhaps he can fine-tune his own skills to give himself his best shot.

While most trainers and fighting analysts still seem pessimistic about McGregor’s chances, many agree there is an avenue, no matter how slim, to pulling off an upset.

White: Anything can happen2:32

UFC: UFC Boss Dana White discusses upcoming bout between Conor McGreor and Floyd Mayweather on August 26th.

Floyd Mayweather Jr will come out of retirement to face UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing match on Aug. 26.

FINALLY, we have confirmation.

After what seemed like years of waiting, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have put pen to paper to fight on August 27th (AEST) in what is being tipped to be the highest-rating pay-per-view boxing event in history.

The UFC lightweight champion has a lot on his plate to give Floyd — the greatest defensive boxer to ever grace a ring — a run for his money.

The fight, which is expected to bring in upwards of $ 100 million for each fighter, has already been slagged off by boxing purists as a farce.

The financial benefits for McGregor are clear. The 28-year-old has earned roughly $ 9.5 million from fights in the UFC, a pittance to what he could have in his wallet upon stepping into the ring in August.

Mayweather, on the other hand, is 40 and semi-retired.

Boxing expert Paul Upham says McGregor doesn’t have a chance, citing his “novice” skills in the ring as a major problem.

The FOX Sports commentator made a huge call for the fight upon its announcement yesterday.

“Mayweather won’t lose a round, he won’t even lose a minute,” he told SEN’s Hungry for Sport. “It’s going to be such a sideshow and people will complain. If McGregor wins it will be one of the great sporting upsets of all time.”

While McGregor has one inch height advantage and an extra two inches of reach over Mayweather, Upham says the senior will have it all over his opponent when it comes to technique.

“We’re doing some digging into (McGregor’s) past, we’ve seen some footage of him boxing — he’s not very good,”

Instinct plays a huge role in the ring. When the first punches are thrown and countless fans are screaming, it’s hard to say what each fighter will do. Upham said a tiny brain snap from McGregor returning to his natural instinct as a mixed-martial artist could put months of planning and a potential upset win down the drain.

Pure instinct could be McGregor’s downfall.

“The thing I wonder is with McGregor in the heat of battle, because he’s used to throwing legs,” he said.

“It is quite possible McGregor will get disqualified. I would say it’s possible. How disciplined is he coming into boxing?

“McGregor is a complete novice when it comes to boxing. He’s a great of UFC, but this is a great business move for Mayweather.”

Upham said the move from Mayweather to boost his already bulging earnings purse was a handy move for the businessman, bringing himself into the gaze of millions of MMA fans and finding a new market.

“Mayweather is now opening himself up to new money,” he said.
“Crossover fans will love it, because McGregor is such a great mixed martial artist, but those skills won’t transfer over to boxing.

“Both have realised what a great way to make money this is. McGregor could land one lucky punch and knock Mayweather out — but no one has managed to do that yet.”

MCGREGOR INSIDER’S GRIM PREDICTION

It’s on.

It’s on.Source:Supplied

As the fight draws nearer, even those closest to McGregor are having severe reservations over his chance against Floyd Mayweather.

Former IBO welterweight champion Chris van Heerden, who is currently McGregor’s sparring partner as he prepares for the megafight, says he was able to land punches “at will” on the

Irishman in a session despite just coming back from a holiday.

When asked by TMZ whether McGregor had the knockout power to take Floyd out, the 29-year-old simply replied: “No.”

UFC RIVAL’S SAVAGE RESPONSE TO MEGAFIGHT

NATE Diaz is never at a loss for words, but especially when it comes to Conor McGregor.

Diaz handed McGregor his only loss in the UFC when he submitted the future lightweight champion by second round rear naked choke when they met last March.

Now after hearing news that McGregor is moving over to boxing to face 49-0 legend Floyd Maywether, he couldn’t help himself but to take a jab at the fight on social media.

“It’s gonna be a good fight for that No. 2 spot,” Diaz said about the fight.

The caption came along with a photo with Diaz celebrating his win while McGregor was still laid out on the mat.

To his credit, McGregor did avenge that loss to Diaz with a majority decision win at UFC 202 this past August to even the series up at one win a piece.

That being said, Diaz has never agreed with the decision and has taunted McGregor about the fight ever since.

It’s gonna be a good fight for that #2 spot. 💯

Winter is coming… actually, winter never seems to leave on Fargo, doesn’t it?

The official trailer for Season 3 of FX’s parka-clad crime anthology — debuting Wednesday, April 19 at 10/9c — just dropped, and it gives us a great look at Ewan McGregor’s dual roles as a pair of polar-opposite brothers: Emmit, the tuxedo-clad “Parking Lot King of Minnesota,” and Ray, the balding parole officer who resents his brother’s success. Here, Ray comes to his brother begging for a little help: “You still owe me from what happened when we were kids.” But Emmit’s reluctant to open his wallet again: “Where does it end?”

BrainDead‘s Mary Elizabeth Winstead co-stars as Ray’s girlfriend Nikki Swango, who encourages him to get revenge: “You’re twice the man your brother is.” So Ray turns to stoned accomplice Maurice (Halt and Catch Fire‘s Scoot McNairy) and tells him, “I’ve got a place… that needs a little robbin’.”

And of course, things go wrong — this is Fargo, after all — so we catch glimpses of a nasty car wreck and someone beating the hell out of someone else with a blunt instrument. That brings in police chief Gloria Burgle (The Leftovers‘ Carrie Coon), who questions a local grocer about a suspicious purchase of a case of frozen orange juice concentrate. “Can you make meth from that?” the grocer wonders. “Not last I heard,” Gloria replies. (Oh, Fargo, never change.)

Finally, the network has released the full trailer for the season, which airs on April 19 — and it looks a bit more mischievous, and perhaps somewhat less foreboding than the previous season. (Though it was tweeted by FX with the caption, “it’s a tragedy, ya know.”)

The trailer gives us further insight into the sibling rivalry between the two central characters — both played by Ewan McGregor — and also into their different wigs. (One McGregor so curly! Other McGregor so combed over!) We find out, for instance, that combed-over McGregor (Ray Stussy) is upset with his far-more successful “Parking Lot King of Minnesota” brother, Emmit Stussy, aka curly McGregor, because he “still owe[s him] from what happened when [they] were kids.” Alas, what happened when they were kids remains a mystery.

Ray has a girlfriend — Nikki Swango (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), who, as per the official description, is an “alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge.” She boosts his ego by telling him he’s “twice the man [his] brother is,” and enlists him in “kicking ass” via high stakes gambling. Then, someone is brutally killed, and we see a certain Detective Gloria Burgle — played by the excellent Carrie Coon — wandering around investigating something, presumably related in some way to that brutal killing.
