The star, who played Darth Maul for the second time in the recent spin-off, has seemingly been targeted by some on the internet making cruel comments about his appearance.

This morning he has taken to Instagram to speak out, putting those abusing him firmly in their place.

“Not that I NEED TO JUSTIFY THIS! I worked my butt off to play Maul in Solo even though I knew I had no action to do,” he said. “I do take my character very SERIOUSLY.

“Seen a few fatty comments out there. Lol. Which I find very funny as hell.

“I really don’t care. I know there are a few people that have no clue what I do, or how it works.

“Please remember I was 22 on Ep1 training 15hrs a day. For Solo I was getting a good 3-4 hours in of training with a serious hip injury, I had been suffering from for a few years which prevented me from doing a lot of what I love with my workouts.

“And…. the makeup had a different aged effect and purpose which I’m not going into.”

The actor attached a handful of photos showing him doing impressive training exercises.

Darth Maul’s appearance was one of the big shocks of Solo, although unfortunately the film was overshadowed by its disappointing box office performance.

In a huge rarity of LucasFilm, it actually made a loss on its budget – this despite mostly positive reviews for the Han Solo origin story.

Now, whether the huge Maul comeback story that the film appeared to tease will continue to play out or not remains to be seen.

As Emilia Clarke’s Qi’Ra went to meet him before the credits rolled, it was clear that bosses hoped to continue the story – but it remains to be seen whether anything will come of it.

For now, the Star Wars Skywalker saga will wrap up with the release of Episode 9 in late 2019.

JJ Abrams is back at the helm for the end of the sequel trilogy, which is currently in production around the UK.

Returning cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Marie Tran, Adam Driver and Domhnall Gleeson will all be back to conclude the characters’ various arcs.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, meanwhile, is out on DVD and Blu-ray on September 24 in the UK.

It was the biggest surprise of this year’s Solo movie spin-off.

Darth Maul, who hasn’t been seen in a live action movies since 1999’s The Phantom Menace, is back.

And once again it was Ray Park playing the character’s body, while animated series The Clone Wars’ Sam Witwer provided the voice.

The short hologram scene saw Maul revealed as the true head of Crimson Dawn, as Qi’ra informed him that Dryden was dead.

Park’s Maul appeared with a new lightsaber and sporting his mechanical legs, as seen in the animated Star Wars Rebels series, which is set after Solo.

Now Disney have released the scene and two official shots of the villain prior to Solo’s home release.

Both snaps show Maul with lightsaber on, with one with his hood up.

Fans were also treated to a proper look at those robot legs of his.

With such a cameo it’s clear this is just the beginning of Darth Maul’s return to live action Star Wars.

Although the spin-off’s box office takings were embarrassingly under $ 400 million, while other recent Star Wars movies have all made over $ 1 billion.

So perhaps Darth Maul will need to appear in a different Star Wars movie set around this period of the timeline.

Although it’s worth noting that Disney are releasing their own streaming service next year.

No doubt they will put exclusive original content there like the upcoming Star Wars TV series from Jon Favreau.

So maybe Darth Maul’s future will be found in skipping the cinemas and going directly to a streaming only movie.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 24, 2019.

After a long wait and some worrying bumps along the way, the Han Solo movie will finally be here faster than the Millennium Falcon in the Kessel Run.

Early screenings have been reassuringly well received.

There are reports of a more ‘Marvel’ tone, hopefully mixing humour and drama more successfully than the divisive The Last Jedi.

Mark Hamill already let slip that C-3PO will be popping up, becoming the only Star Wars character to appear in every single movie so far.

New reports reveal that a huge prequel trilogy character will also be making a “surprise” cameo.

Apparently this cameo came as a complete shock to early audiences and was not someting hinted at during the movie.

The cameo takes place towards the end of the movie and seems to be part of setting up a new direction and story arc for the Star Wars universe, especially since Alden Ehrenreich has signed up for three outings as the young Solo.

The new leak confirms: “Guess what? It’s not Darth Vader, it’s not Jabba the Hutt, it’s not Boba Fett. It’s not even Obi-Wan Kenobi…”

Who could it be?

Star Wars Youtube commentator Mike Zeroh says: “One big reaction has to do with the fact that there will be a huge cameo towards the end of Solo A Star Wars Story. It will be very much unexpected…

“This character is a pretty major character in the Star Wars universe. If I had to make a guess, maybe it’s Emperor Palpatine. Maybe it’s Darth Maul or even Yoda.

“It’s also said to be a prequel trilogy character.”

Solo A Star Wars Story is set some years before the events of A New Hope so Palpatine would be hugely exciting, since we would see him at the height of his power and evil plans.

Darth Maul might be problematic since he was chopped in half during the prequel trilogy. Yoda, as always, would be welcome but his recent cameo in The Last Jedi has already stolen that thunder.

Either way, it is another sign that Ron Howard and Lucasfilm might be about to deliver a new Star Wars movie that will please fans and critics.

AT 2pm tomorrow afternoon the credibility of world boxing goes on the line.

And Australia’s greatest fighter, Jeff Fenech, is concerned UFC superstar Conor McGregor could destroy it. And he’s not alone.

Boxing has nothing to gain but everything to lose in this Mayweather-McGregor super fight that will be watched by a potential world audience of 100 million fans.

If Floyd Mayweather wins and takes his undefeated record to 50, it’s what we all expected.

Yet McGregor has an excuse in that he a martial arts machine, not a boxer.

If the UFC champion wins, boxing will be seen as the weaker of the two combat sports.

“This guy (McGregor) is so unconventional,” Fenech said. “He’s going to put his heart and soul into it.

“He’ll either get knocked out or he’ll knock Floyd out. It’s going to be closer than we think.

“Most of the boxers Floyd has fought have been a little but cautious. Not this guy.

“Sometimes I wonder why the bout was ever sanctioned considering one guy has never fought as a boxer. I guess money speaks all languages.”

Fenech fears the age and weight advantage will work in McGregor’s favour.

Plus the fact Mayweather hasn’t fought for two years and doesn’t appear to be taking the fight as seriously as one might expect.

In between training he’s spent most nights this week at his new strip club in downtown Las Vegas entertaining guests with his girls in lingerie.

Fenech expects him to win but fears a boilover.

“McGregor’s going to be really dangerous,” Fenech said, “He’s 20 pounds bigger. He’s stronger.

“Floyd knows this guy is going to attack him. He’s trouble. And he can fight. People are thinking it can’t happen but it can.

Other commentators agree boxing could be the biggest loser, including Showtime’s senior fight analyst Steve Farhood.

Viewers of the animated shows, however, will know that he managed to survive.

In The Clone Wars, it was revealed that he managed to use his pain and rage to wrap himself in dark side energy and live on.

Now, he’s expected to clash once again with Kenobi in the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels episode Twin Suns – but he was originally supposed to have perished for good long ago.

Rebels producer Dave Filoni has revealed that he was intended to perish in the season two finale – at the hands of Darth Vader.

“Originally Maul perished in the season two finale where he returned,” he explained to io9. 

“It was a one-off appearance… So originally in that episode you were gonna get Vader fighting Maul, Vader would have killed Maul, and then fought Ahsoka.

“It just became unwieldy… There were too many storylines, and there isn’t enough emotional material between Vader and Maul.”

He reasoned: “It’s more of a fan fiction fun thought that they fought.

This week’s episode of Star Wars Rebels centers on rebellion fighter Wedge Antilles, but next week’s episode of the DisneyXD animated series will finally give fans a confrontation long in the making: Darth Maul has discovered that Obi-Wan Kenobi is hiding out on Tatooine and is coming to get his revenge for what happened at the end of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Disney has released a fifteen-second long video teasing this upcoming epic confrontation. Watch the Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Maul tease, embedded after the jump.

Earlier this season, Maul met up with Ezra Bridger to combine the Sith and Jedi holocrons to get the answers to their questions. Ezra wanted to know how to destroy the Sith, while Maul’s intentions were not immediately revealed. He declared “I see him,” while Ezra saw a vision of twin suns. Of course, we know Tatooine is a planet with twin suns, and as it turns out, the former Sith is on a mission to find his old enemy Obi-Wan Kenobi and finish this rivalry. The episode is actually titled “Twin Suns,” and as we see in the promo above, Maul will come face to face with Obi-Wan Kenobi once again. Here is the official description from Disney:

The fates of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul have long been intertwined. From their fateful duel in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace where Kenobi left Maul for dead, to their tragic reunion in Star Wars: The Clone Wars when Maul wreaked havoc across the galaxy before disappearing once again. In the upcoming episode of Star Wars Rebels, “Twin Suns,” the dark warrior has managed to track down his old enemy to the desert wastes of Tatooine. Will their rivalry come to an end?

Of course we know that Obi-Wan Kenobi survives this confrontation and helps Luke Skywalker on his path to become a Jedi and join the Rebellion. But we don’t know Maul’s ultimate fate. Will this episode end in his mortal death? Might Dave Filoni be playing with all of us — could something truly unexpected come out of this showdown?
