Chicago P.D.’s Kim Burgess made a life-altering decision Wednesday that is sure to have a rippling effect on both her professional and romantic relationships. Marina Squerciati, who plays the overwhelmed officer, opened up to TVLine about what’s in store. This week’s episode saw Intelligence investigate a string of carjackings which led to the crew uncovering an illegal child prostitution ring. The sensitive case also put Burgess in the path of Michaela, the young girl she previously helped in the Jan. 13 episode “Tender Age.” After Michaela’s caregiver decided to relinquish her guardian rights, Burgess stepped in to foster her former witness. The episode ended with the Intelligence officer slowly and carefully pulling out of the parking lot with Michaela in the backseat and terror written all over her face. Is Burgess ready to handle this kind of responsibility? “I don’t think she knows [what she’s getting into]. She’s just going on instinct,” Squerciati says of Burgess’ big decision. “Ruzek hits the nail on the head [when he tells her] ‘I think you can’t stand to see another child loss,’ which I think is true. She realizes that most of these children, especially the older children, won’t fare so well, so that’s a motivating force.” Squerciati added that she believes Burgess and Michaela “have a special connection,” which helps with their precarious new situation. Burgess’ situation is even more complicated given that she is a white woman raising a Black girl, and will have certain blind spots when it comes to parenting a child of a different race. Squerciati hopes the issue is something her character won’t ignore, and that she’ll continue to lean on her close friend Atwater (played by LaRoyce Hawkins) — who raised his little sister Vinessa (Documentary Now!’s Bobbi MacKenzie) — for support. Burgess reached out Atwater in Wednesday’s episode to ask his opinion about the potential adoption — a move that seems to have helped inform her decision to foster Michaela. “I’m really glad that scene with Atwater happened because I feel like without it, you run the danger of it being a white-savior-type of episode. The fact that she acknowledged and talked to him about the racial factor of it, I think, really helps that,” Squerciati explains. When it comes to parenting, Squerciati thinks Burgess has a lot to consider. “There’s so many things that I’ve been thinking about. I don’t know how to do Black hair and Kevin [Atwater] could teach me how to do it,” she adds. “And of course, there are bigger issues and bigger blind spots that I hope our writers address. But I was just thinking about small things that I wouldn’t know that Atwater would because he had Vinessa that we could talk about.” What do you think about Burgess’ decision to foster Michaela? How will it impact her relationship with Ruzek? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! Things have been going really well for Chicago P.D.‘s Burgess and Ruzek lately, which begs the question: When will they stop messing around and finally get back together? In the aftermath of Burgess’ miscarriage last season, the pair have only gotten closer while working through their shared trauma. They hang out together, work together and as Ruzek so expertly observed in the Jan. 13 episode “Tender Age,” they’re basically an old married couple at this point. A romantic reconciliation seems like the logical next step, so why haven’t they moved forward in their relationship? For Marina Squerciati, who plays Burgess, the not-couple is in too good of a place right now to shake things up. “What’s keeping them apart is how well they get along,” Squerciati tells TVLine. “Burgess is scared of anything new right now because of this miscarriage and the trauma she suffered, so comfort is the main goal in her life. Just flannel shirts and ice cream on the couch — anything else seems scary. Their biggest problem is they’re too comfortable, and Burgess is really happy right now.” Patrick John Flueger, who plays Ruzek, thinks the pair is exactly where they need to be at the moment. “I think that it’s an incredibly adult relationship,” he explains. “These are two people that love each other enough to take steps back when they need to, and lean forward when they need to. At the end of the day, they just love each other, and they can’t really escape from that. Right now, [Ruzek and Burgess] feeling each other out and feeling out life works for them really well.” Though they’ve hit a pretty comfortable routine, there is still the potential for the Intelligence detectives to once again make things official. However, Squerciati says that it’s going to take a lot more than sweet talk for Burgess to want to make that leap again: “Ruzek says a lot of really wonderful things, but I think he needs to do something super romantic or really show up.” Should Burgess and Ruzek get back together right now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! Warning: The following contains spoilers for Wednesday’s Chicago P.D. Proceed at your own risk! On Wednesday’s Chicago P.D., Burgess’ pregnancy took a tragic twist when she lost the baby following a brutal beating from a sex trafficking ringleader. After tracking one of the underage victims to a motel, Burgess called for backup — but the cries of the girl forced the officer to rush in before help arrived. The suspect then attacked Burgess, punching, tossing and slamming her until she shot him. Burgess was able to save the girl, who was underwater in the bathtub, which is where Upton found a bloody Burgess clutching her stomach. When Ruzek arrived on the scene, he scooped his pregnant ex out of the tub as she cried in his arms. But at the hospital, Burgess was stone-faced, starring blankly out the window as the doctor told her the baby was lost. She didn’t even react when Ruzek sat down next to her on the bed to comfort her. Below, star Marina Squerciati talks about filming the difficult fight sequence and previews how Burgess’ emotional shutdown will give way to a “violence of emotion” with Ruzek. TVLINE | How did you feel when you got the script and you found out she was going to lose the baby? TVLINE | Could you see a scenario where she could have balanced having a family, doing this modern-day version of parenting with Ruzek, and her job all at the same time? TVLINE | It always felt like Burgess was struggling with how she was going to do this while also remaining an active part of Intelligence and not sacrificing her career. TVLINE | I rewatched part of the ending, but I couldn’t bring myself to rewatch the fight scene because it was so brutal. What was the experience like shooting that scene in the bathroom and the bathtub? TVLINE | How much of the fight choreography did you get to do? TVLINE | That must have been quite a mentally and physically taxing day for you. TVLINE | How is Burgess handling the trauma moving forward? TVLINE | I was hoping that the fact that she didn’t push him away when he sat down on the bed was a good sign that she was going let him be there for her. TVLINE | Does this unfortunate experience change her mindset at all about her job and her personal life? TVLINE | Is she going to a dark place? Should we be worried? TVLINE | Does any part of her feel guilt about what happened? TVLINE | And for those “Burzek” fans who’ve just been holding out for season after season, what final message would you give to them? Gogglebox stars Mary and Marina turned spooky this evening on the Channel 4 show. They prepared to spend an evening in on Halloween watching Killing Eve and to get in the spirit of things, they decided to decorate. Mary and Marina purchased a little doorbell for their house which was decorated with a scary skeleton. The former seemed to be feeling a little cheeky about the whole situation and played a prank on her friend. Marina struggled to make the doorbell work and asked her pal for assistance. Mary, with a smile on her face, told Marina to press the button in a certain way. The latter was positively spooked when the skeleton started to speak and Mary was in fits of giggles. And viewers were loving the hilarious scene and they flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts. One wrote: “Mary and Marina are brilliant.” Another added: “Mary and Marina always makes me laugh.” A third shared: “Mary and Marina are simply the best.” A fourth added: “Mary and Marina making themselves jump with the Halloween doorbell.” Mary and Marina have been on Gogglebox since 2017. The fan-favourites are two best friends from Bristol and have become well-known for their hilarious sense of humour. Elsewhere on Gogglebox, viewers were terrified as the Channel 4 cast watched Netflix horror, The Haunting of Hill House. Some seemed to turn off the show, tweeting: “And this is why I don’t do horrors! I’m behind the dam cushion just watching #gogglebox Def not watching that prog! Geez!”(sic) A second added: “I can’t even watch The Haunting of Hill House when they’re watching it on #gogglebox never mind the full series.” Another laughed: “Really want to watch #TheHauntingOfHillHouse but watching #Gogglebox makes it seem impossible that I would cope.” A third admitted: “Watching the people on #Gogglebox watching #TheHauntingOfHillHouse is enough for me.” Gogglebox continues Friday on Channel 4 at 9pm. MOSCOW, 10 JULY— RT has concluded its social media colorization contest, held as part of its ambitious multimedia project #Romanovs100. The contest was judged by renowned Brazilian artist and professional colorist Marina Amaral, whose renditions of historical photos have been covered by the BBC, The Verge, the Daily Telegraph, and Daily Mirror, among other international outlets. Participants were invited to color one or more of three archival photos of the Romanov family specially chosen by Marina Amaral. Once finished, participants were asked to publish their work on one of three social media platforms—Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter—with the hashtag Romanovs100. First prize went to Gavin Daniel Wieszala for his colorization of a photo of Tsar Nicholas II with his son Alexei. Nikitamarvel_art took second place for his portrait of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, while third place went to ikonaut GmbH for his coloring of a photo of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. Regarding her criteria, Amaral said she looked for attention to detail, color choices, realism and respect for the original photographs when choosing the winners. “Colorization of photos is an art through which we can express ourselves, but we must always keep in mind that they are also historical documents, and therefore we cannot modify and/or distort the items that are present (or not) in the images,” said Amaral. While judging the contest, Amaral also had the opportunity to finish the work of Tsar Nicholas II and Alexandra’s youngest daughter Anastasia, who had begun colorizing a few family photos 100 years ago. The winners will receive two limited edition books: ‘#1917LIVE – The Russian Revolution in Tweets’ (the result of the RT project of the same name, dedicated to the Russian Revolution of 1917), and a book by Marina Amaral and British writer and historian Dan Jones called ‘The Colour of Time: A New History of the World, 1850-1960,’ which contains around 200 historical photographs colorized by Amaral. In April 2018, the same team behind #1917LIVE launched #Romanovs100 to bring the story of Russia’s last royal family to life through thousands of Romanov family photographs, which were recently unearthed from within the national archives. The large-scale, cross-platform multimedia project takes place across four platforms – YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – in order to retell the last decades of imperial Russia over the 100 days leading up to the centenary of the family’s execution on July 17. RT’s #1917LIVE project is one of the biggest-ever historical re-enactments on Twitter. Dozens of Twitter accounts were set up as key historical characters of the period, from the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II and revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin to common workers and soldiers, tweeting events from 100 years ago in real-time. Historians from the US and UK took part in the project, as well as the world-renowned Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. The project received 20 Russian and international awards, including the 2018 Webby People’s Voice Award. At the Shorty Social Good Awards, the project won the ‘Best in Education’ award and took gold for ‘Best Overall Twitter Presence.’RELATED STORIES
It’s still too early to determine how exactly this major decision will impact Burgess professionally, but it looks like this could be a game-changer for her and Ruzek: “They were headed towards something, and I don’t think this is going to make them go that way anymore,” Squerciati explained. “There’s some things you have to give up [when you become a parent], and I think Burgess might think that that’s Ruzek. I don’t know but I have a feeling we’re going that way.”

I felt devastated and, alternatively, excited, because I thought it was so well-written, and there are so many things to play in this wonderful script that Gwen [Sigan] wrote. So as an actress, I was thrilled. As Burgess, it’s pretty awful.
Sure, I think they would have killed it as co-parents. I feel like they’ve been through the wringer. They’ve been in a relationship, out of a relationship, been engaged, been out of engagement, and they’re still kind of friendly and have this lovely relationship again. If anyone could do it, they could have, which makes it sort of all the more tragic.
Yeah, I think that’s a struggle that every woman has, right? Even when I had my kid, how do I do this without sacrificing my career, which I love so much? She has the added [factor] of putting yourself in harm’s way, and how do you reconcile that when you have a child? I don’t know. That’s something I hadn’t unpacked yet.
It was one of the longest fight scenes we ever had. Normally, in a scene, you shoot directionally. You do one side wide, then you move in closer, then you turn the cameras around, and then do the other side wide and then closer. That’s the basic rudimentary way to put it. The problem was that once you get wet, you can’t really get unwet. So the water added this crazy element, and so we had to shoot one way up until the water, shoot the other way up until the water, and then shoot the water. … It was incredibly violent and horrible to shoot, as well, and hard, and everyone’s working, everyone’s mopping up water and changing my clothes and changing my makeup. It’s a real testament to the crew that we were able to do this this well and that it worked so well.
Oh, that’s all me except for after we’re on the door and he is hitting me and he throws me to the ground. That’s the one thing they didn’t let me do. So everything else is me.
It was. Sometimes, Tracy [Spiridakos] and I, after fight scenes, exchange photos of bruises. [Laughs] We both bruise like a summer fruit, and we’re like, “Can you beat this one? Mine’s the size of Texas.” “Well, mine’s the size of California.”
TVLINE | The scene where she’s in the bathtub and she’s starting to cry as Ruzek comes in and picks her up, it’s so powerful. What was the direction that you got for that moment from either the script or the director?
Well, actually, in the script, he was supposed to come into the bathtub with me and sit with me until help arrived, and Paddy [John Flueger] was like, “Nope. I can’t do that. I have to pick you up and bring you to the hospital.” So that was something we had to kind of work out with the writer and make sure she was OK with that. She had written this beautiful scene, and we wanted to respect it. But ultimately, she was OK with him picking me up and taking me away, which is exactly what Paddy, as a man, would do and what Ruzek, as a man, would do. It was a dance. Everyone was working really hard to make it work.
Not great. [Laughs]
TVLINE | What kind of a mindset is she in in the next episode?
We’ll have a couple scenes with Voight and Adam, and what she kind of tells them both is that she needs to be alone for a while, in different ways. The way she speaks to Voight, it’s interesting. She sort of opens up more to Voight than she does to Adam, because I think opening up to Adam right now is too painful.
Yeah, maybe someday. [Laughs]
Yeah. How could it not, right? I think the show is still exploring in what ways she’s affected, but right now, I think she’s pretty closed off from everybody.
I don’t know. Maybe more reckless than dark.
Yeah, for sure. That’s gonna come up in a couple episodes, as well, and it’s sort of a violence of emotion with Ruzek.
TVLINE | One of the nice parts of this episode were the Platt and Burgess scenes. Might Platt be someone whom Burgess will rely on more in the coming episodes?
I think Burgess will shut down, and Platt will definitely try and make her reach out. The people who love her see what’s happening, and they’re trying to throw her a lifeline, and she’s just not accepting it.
Hope is not lost.

Born in 1937, Popovich enlisted in the Air Force in the post-war years to revenge the fascist killings in her native village in Smolensk Region. She would tell the Russian media her family was to repeat the fate of many others burned or shot dead by fascists on a killing spree in the village if it was not saved by local militias.
The horrific experience left a deep imprint on her. Popovich was only 16 when she wrote a letter to Soviet Minister of Defense Voroshilov asking to let her become a professional pilot, a career then closed to women. She would add several years to her age to pursue her dream, pretending she was 22 at the time she started training.
In 1961, Popovich became the only Soviet first class test pilot and in 1964, a military test pilot. A year later, she broke the sound barrier reaching the speed of 2,320 km/h on a MiG-21, a supersonic jet fighter and interception aircraft.
During her long career in aviation, she flew 40 different planes and helicopters, setting 102 aviation world records.
Ten of these records were set on the Antonov An- 22 Antei heavy military transport aircraft, which remains the world’s largest turboprop-powered airplane to date. She retired in 1984, having flown nearly 6,000 flight hours.
After her retirement, Popovich focused on her other long-time passion, the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life. She was outspoken about her own experiences with UFOs, claiming to have witnessed them herself three times, first in 1962, and collected numerous accounts of sightings around the world.
She also claimed to have met the mythical Bigfoot creature during a trip to the Pamir Mountains in 1982.
In her book “UFO-Glasnost” she even wrote that Soviet military and civil pilots have reported some 3,000 UFO sightings and that the KGB had the debris of five crashed UFOs hidden away, claims she reiterated in public interviews.
“I believe UFO do exist, its behavior is logical, its behavioral motives are sensible, its origin is artificial…I made another conclusion for myself, a warning – you need to be cautious and vigilant when encountering UFOs, as sometimes these meetings can be tragic,” she wrote in her other book, “UFOs over Planet Earth,” in 2003.
Popovich was awarded one of the highest state honors in the Soviet Union, the Hero of Socialist Labor, the Order of Courage in 2007, and other decorations.

Everyone has taken a wrong turning and got lost once in their life.
Yet animals are assumed to have a much better sense of direction.
One majestic creature apparently didn’t get the directional genes after getting lost in a harbour marina.
It definitely gave some of the people a shock.
The video on the Youtube channel Pacific Eagle Air Cam shows the moment the 40-foot-long whale was swimming underneath Ventura Marina.
The people on the bay are spotted filming the large creature swimming around it.
The nerves hit a few of them when the humpback whale swam towards them, as they fled to more solid ground.
However, it has a happy ending.
The caption stated that the animal was lured back to the wild by using “a loop of humpback whale feeding sounds”.
Other commenters found the situation just as amazing.
Although one wrote: “Look at the puny humans running from the zero danger they were in.”
Yet one didn’t find the situation as beautiful and was less impressed.
Another user commented: “Technically they’re not lost seeing as they live in the ocean.”
It’s not the first time whales have been spotted in a shocking situation on camera.
However, two travellers found themselves in much more danger when near the animals.
The dramatic moment two killer whales charged at two swimmers was caught on video.
The Nintendo Switch’s launch month was a big success, in thanks partly to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
While it was also available on the Wii U, The Nintendo Switch games version provided players with a slightly higher-spec and the chance to play it on the move.
Many fans have probably picked up the new DLC expansion, which is also the first to be made available in any Zelda game.
But for those who were hoping for a quick-fire sequel on the Nintendo Switch, series producer Eiji Aonuma has some bad news for you.
Speaking to Gamereactor, the Zelda veteran revealed that we’re in for a long wait, following the success of Breath of the Wild.
“We have no plans for a future Zelda,” he explained.
“We are still far from that, unfortunately for you. Today, I’m at the stage where I’m trying to gather a number of ideas for a sequel, but I cannot do it alone.
“It’s a lot of work that will have to be done over a long period of time, and we’re still far from having planned anything. Leave us a little time.”
Aonuma did confirm that more support for Nintendo Switch’s HD rumble would likely be in the next title, adding: “The real problem that made it impossible to use this technology is not so much a matter of time problem but rather that we were going to have too many differences with the Wii U version and they both had to be identical games.
“We will be able to use this in the next Zelda.”
Nintendo have revealed that demand has far surpassed their original estimates and they’re now looking to have an install base of around 10m by the end of the current fiscal year.
But while Nintendo strive to boost their production numbers to keep up with supply, Nintendo Switch stock at Gamestop and GAME is still unable to keep up.
A statement from Nintendo to MCVUK explains: “”For Nintendo Switch, our initial plan for the fiscal year ended March 2017 was to ship two million units by the end of March, but we increased production which resulted in shipping 2.74 million units globally.
“For products like Nintendo Switch, it takes time to procure parts and run production, so we perform demand estimates far in advance of launch. Actual demand following the launch of these products surpassed our estimates globally.
“To take advantage of this favorable momentum, we will continue to bolster our manufacturing facilities and strive to increase production in preparation for the Christmas period, which has been factored into our forecast of shipping 10 million units globally by the end of this fiscal year.”
But while increases in production have been promised, There still isn’t enough Nintendo Switch stock at places like Gamestop.
Nintendo have confirmed that they expect more stock to arrive later this month, adding: “We anticipate more stock to arrive in mid-July. Customer orders will be fulfilled in the order they are placed.”
Players in the UK mostly have access to pre order pages for the Nintendo Switch, effectively putting down a deposit so that they can queue for a system.
Splatoon 2 has a new set of characters, which were officially unveiled by Nintendo this week.
Marina and Pearl will be the new hosts of Splatoon 2’s Splatfest, taking over from Callie and Marie.
Nintendo announced that a Splatfest demo would take place before the game officially launches on July 21. Instead, fans will be able to log on Saturday, July 15, to check out the new multiplayer offerings.
The demo should be available to download now, with the official UK times for the new Splatfest confirmed for 5pm, BST.
As mentioned above Splatoon 2’s Marina and Pearl will be part of the multiplayer scene for the foreseeable future and are also a pop duo called Off the Hook.
“Who are these fresh new faces? Why it’s Pearl and Marina of the group Off the Hook, the newest sensation in Inkopolis,” a message from Nintendo teases.
Nintendo Switch fans will also get voice chat support through a smartphone app landing on July 21 – the same day as Splatoon 2 is released.
However, the Big N have gone for a less conventional – and slightly controversial route – for their online voice chat. While the PS4 and Xbox One just needs you to plug in a headset to chat with friends online, with the Switch you have to download a smartphone app.
Once you have downloaded the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app, connecting a headset then requires a few more steps. Splatoon 2 is launching with a third-party headset, which looks like the funky headsets characters in the game wear.
But to use it alongside the Switch game, there are a number of hoops you have to jump through.

Marina enjoys Hotel Crillon le Brave
A decade is a long time to be married and while it feels like Ben and I were married just yesterday, I felt that something special should reflect this landmark occasion.
Tin, it turns out, is what this momentous occasion is traditionally marked by, but I was having none of that. I hadn’t nurtured a marriage for a decade to be rewarded with a lousy piece of rust prone metal.
So it was that a few weeks later we were winding along Provençal roads, flanked by fragrant lavender towards a tiny hill top town called Crillon le Brave.
Nestled in the foothills of Mont Ventoux, the ancient cluster of houses is a vision of perfection and we snaked up to the walled town on windy, cobbled roads.
During the two world wars the village suffered, being left without water supply and almost uninhabited during the 1970s.
Along came tourism and the middle class obsession with the boutique hotel and lo and behold life was breathed back into the crumbling bricks.
The Hotel Crillon le Brave now takes up much of the old village but in a gentle, respectful way.
Its 36 rooms are housed in old medieval buildings, restored to accommodate 21st century luxury without threatening the unique character of the canvas.

The cool clear waters of the Sorgue River minutes from the town centre
Our room was dominated by the glorious views over the plains of the Vaucluse, culminating with the sweeping grace of Mont Ventoux.
I imagined an architect taking real time to work out how to maximise the view for its fortunate occupants, and so in the middle of the bathroom were two freestanding baths, arranged so that bathers could soak up the astonishing vista.
That evening we wound our way down narrow paths and uneven steps whose shape had been gently honed by the millions of footsteps that had passed over them.
We ate at Bistrot 40K, the hotel’s less formal restaurant where everything served came from within a 40km radius. We gorged on olives, spelt, tomatoes, cheese and truffles, each more delicious than the last.
The next morning at breakfast a little card on each table gave the weather forecast as well as the details of the that day’s local markets.
Keen to explore the area that has historically held so many writers and artists enthralled, we tore ourselves away from our medieval hideaway in search of Provençal antiques. We headed to what is known as the Venice of Provence, a series of villages sitting along a river.
First stop was Isle sur la Sorgue, a market town famous for its “antiquities”.
A morning flew by as we delved behind rusty cast iron doors, into dusty, high ceilinged warehouses, rummaging for treasure.
Even though Isle (as it is abbreviated to by the locals) is firmly on the tourist route, we seemed far away from English speakers, from clicking cameras and tacky souvenirs.
Instead we were propelled into a world probably unchanged in decades where the surly proprietors sucked moodily on small cigars, reluctantly selling their wares to eager Englishmen.

The market town of Isle sur la Sorgue is famous for its many lively antique shops
A few hundred euros poorer, we tore ourselves away from our treasure trove for lunch at what we’d been promised was the jewel in the crown, Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the ice cold, clear water that surges through the rivers of these villages, bursts out of the ground.
I always find it amazing how quickly you can walk away from throngs of tourists. Within five minutes, the hordes had been left behind and we walked undisturbed along the shore of a gloriously clear river.
We ate trout fished from the waters and drank rosé at Restaurant Philip, where under the branches of enormous plane trees Winston Churchill once dined.
Driving up the cobbled roads to our hill top paradise felt like coming home and we agreed to spend the next few days enjoying all the hotel had to offer.

One of the beautiful rooms in Hotel Crillon le Brave
Yet Crillon le Brave doesn’t feel like a hotel. We imagined we were staying at the private house of a generous friend with immaculate taste. We lazed by the pool watching the late summer clouds gently sail across the Provençal landscape, chilled salmon pink rosé in hand and realised that in this place, it was fine not to do anything.
When we had simply eaten too much cheese to languish, we were kitted out with bikes from the hotel’s well stocked store and armed with a map and a picnic, rattled down the cobbles to explore. We pedalled lazily along roads shaded by ancient olives, breathing in the heady smell of pine and lavender, eventually finding a cool and shady spot where we spread out our picnic.
We lay on our blanket looking up at the sky through the green olive leaves and agreed that metals, precious or other, no longer have any relevance but actually an anniversary, for the sake of nurturing the relationship that holds a marriage together, should be spent getting away together. And together, we rewrote the rules.
