For once the Boston Bruins' top line wasn't Toronto's undoing.

The Maple Leafs took care of that all by themselves with a couple of costly turnovers.

Sean Kuraly and David Pastrnak pounced on miscues by Toronto defencemen Jake Gardiner and Nikita Zaitsev late in the second period to turn a 2-1 Leafs lead into a one-goal deficit as Boston grabbed a 3-2 victory Saturday.

"We came out and played the game we wanted to," said Toronto winger Mitch Marner, who scored his 17th goal of the season. "Just made a couple of mistakes and they didn't miss."

Kuraly set up both Pastrnak and David Krejci to register the first three-point game of his career for Boston (26-15-4), which eliminated the Leafs in the first round of last season's playoffs.

Tuukka Rask made 30 saves as the Bruins won the season series between the teams 3-1 and now sit just two points back of the Leafs for second in the Atlantic Division.

"Two big points," Kuraly said. "There was no other way to look at it."

Watch highlights of Boston's win over Toronto:

Sean Kuraly figured in on all three Boston goals, as the Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2. 2:06

Andreas Johnsson also scored for Toronto (28-14-2), which does have a game in hand on Boston. Michael Hutchinson stopped 26 shots.

The Bruins beat the Leafs 5-1 at home on Nov. 10 before Toronto returned the favour 16 days later with a 4-2 victory at Scotiabank Arena to set up a testy affair featuring 98 minutes in penalties that Boston won 6-3 on Dec. 8.

It's only January, but it's there's a good chance the clubs could meet in a rematch of last spring's playoff series that went the distance — a task Nazem Kadri said the Leafs would gladly welcome.

"We're always looking forward to playing these guys," said the centre. "They're a great hockey team, they're well-coached.

"Tons of credit goes to them, but we're a good team, too."

Down 2-1 in the second, Boston got even at 14:47 when Gardiner fanned on a breakout attempt before having the puck stolen by Chris Wagner, who in turn fed Kuraly to snap home his fifth.

Kuraly then intercepted Zaitsev's soft pass behind the net before feeding Pastrnak, who buried his 26th past a surprised Hutchinson with 13.7 seconds left on the clock.

Pastrnak, who took a puck off the cheek in warmup, now has 19 points (11 goals, eight assists) in 15 career regular-season games against Toronto — including six goals and three assists in four outings this season — after scoring five times and setting up eight against the Leafs in the 2018 playoffs.

Hutchinson scrambled to stop a Pastrnak chance early in the third to keep his team in it before Kadri missed the net from a difficult angle at the other end midway through the period.

Auston Matthews, who has just one goal in his last nine games, had Rask down and out with four minutes to go, but the puck rolled off his stick on what would be Toronto's best opportunity to tie.

"You've got to push through it," Leafs head coach Mike Babcock said. "A little struggle in your life never hurt anybody. Just dig in."

Former Maple Leafs player, coach Dan Maloney dies at age 68 https://briefnews.eu/former-maple-leafs-player-coach-dan-maloney-dies-at-age-68/ https://briefnews.eu/former-maple-leafs-player-coach-dan-maloney-dies-at-age-68/#respond Wed, 21 Nov 2018 11:57:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/former-maple-leafs-player-coach-dan-maloney-dies-at-age-68/

Dan Maloney, a feared fighter who went on to coach the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets, has died at age 68.

The NHL Alumni Association announced Maloney's death on its Twitter account. No cause of death was given.

Selected by the Blackhawks 14th overall in the 1970 NHL draft, Maloney went on to play 11 seasons in the NHL with Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit and Toronto. He was part of the trade that sent Marcel Dionne from the Red Wings to Los Angeles.

The Leafs broke up their successful line of Darryl Sittler, Lanny McDonald and Errol (Spud) Thompson to get Maloney, sending Thompson to Detroit.

Maloney had 192 goals and 259 assists over 737 games, scoring 20 or more goals three times in a season. A hard-nosed winger, he also piled up 1,489 penalty minutes with more than 90 fights during his NHL career, according to Hockeyfights.com.

In 1976, then with Detroit, he was acquitted in Toronto of charges of assaulting Maple Leafs defenceman Brian Glennie in a game in November 1975 at Maple Leaf Gardens.

Maloney went after Glennie after he had hit Brian Hextall of Detroit with what appeared to be a clean check near the Toronto blue line.

Maloney pounced on Glennie from behind, dropped him with a right-hand punch, then hit him several more times and repeatedly lifted and dropped Glennie, causing him to strike the ice.

Acquittal in Toronto

Glennie had to be helped from the ice and was taken to a hospital for observation with a concussion.

Maloney said he went after Glennie because he felt the Toronto defenceman had hit Hextall "extra hard," according to reports at the time. He also said he wasn't trying to hurt Glennie, but that Glennie kept falling and he kept trying to pick him up.

He was given a five-minute major penalty. The game turned nasty with 107 penalty minutes being called.

The jury of eight women and four men deliberated for almost nine hours before reaching their verdict. Maloney was the third NHL player to face charges for his actions on the ice.

After his acquittal, Maloney said he would continue "playing hockey the way I have always played it and the way I play it best. I'm just very glad to have this over with."

The judge in that case — Justice Patrick LeSage — would preside over Paul Bernardo's murder trial years later.

Maloney went into coaching after his playing career ended following the 1981-82 season, spending two seasons as an assistant coach with the Maple Leafs before being promoted to head coach.

He took over after head coach Mike Nykoluk was fired an hour before sitting down for a season-ending meal with his players.

Maloney coached the Leafs for the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons, then spent the following three seasons as head coach of the Winnipeg Jets before being fired 52 games into the 1988-89 season.

He also served as an assistant with the New York Rangers in 1992-93.

Born in Barrie, Ont., Maloney played junior hockey for the London Knights.

Hayley Wickenheiser joins Maple Leafs as player development assistant director https://briefnews.eu/hayley-wickenheiser-joins-maple-leafs-as-player-development-assistant-director/ https://briefnews.eu/hayley-wickenheiser-joins-maple-leafs-as-player-development-assistant-director/#respond Fri, 24 Aug 2018 05:46:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hayley-wickenheiser-joins-maple-leafs-as-player-development-assistant-director/

Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas wasn't specifically looking to add a woman to Toronto's front office.

Hayley Wickenheiser was simply the best fit.

One of the top players in women's hockey history, Wickenheiser was named the club's new assistant director of player development Thursday.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist will monitor Leafs prospects in the WHL, and is expected to travel to Toronto a couple times a month to work with players on both the Leafs and the AHL's Marlies.

"The biggest reason why I was intrigued about this role is that Kyle was interested in me — not to hire a woman, but to hire someone who could do the job," Wickenheiser said on a conference call. "I feel pretty confident in my abilities to be in this role and that I belong and can handle myself with anyone."

The 40-year-old from Shaunavon, Sask., retired as a player in 2017, finishing as the career leading scorer for the Canadian women's national team with 168 goals and 211 assists for 379 points in 276 games.

"I know how those guys think, how they approach the game, day in and day out," she said. "I can help players get better and understand what it takes to get better.

"Every time you step on the ice, whether it's with a player or a coach, you can always learn something or take something."

Watch CBC Sports' Signa Butler recap Wickenheiser's impressive résume:

Wickenheiser, who will continue studying medicine at the University of Calgary, said it was important for her to get back into a sport where she's helped blaze a trail for women and girls.

"I love being around people that are the best at what they do," she said. "To work for the Toronto Maple Leafs is a pretty huge honour, and it's a big responsibility.

"I understand well what pressure is in playing for Canada on the world stage. Hopefully some of those experiences I've that had can help some of these players."

Wickenheiser, the MVP of women's tournament at both the 2002 and 2006 Olympics, attended the Leafs' development camp as a guest coach in June.

'Hayley was certainly the best person'

"When we go through any process of hiring people to add to our program, we're looking for the best people. Period," Dubas said. "Hayley was certainly the best person to fill that role because of her expertise in hockey, her experience of being an elite player at every level.

"Getting to know her and talking to her, I just thought the way that Hayley thinks about hockey and life could be a massive benefit to our player development program, but also our program in general."

The Leafs also announced Scott Pellerin has been elevated to senior director of player development and that Stephane Robidas will serve as director of player development, while Noelle Needham and Victor Carneiro have been brought onboard as amateur scouts.

Dubas said adding more diversity to the Leafs — the team already employs former Olympian Barbara Underhill as a power skating coach — with hires like Wickenheiser and Needham can only help the franchise reach its ultimate goal.

"Research shows that the more diverse your organization, the better your decision making, the better your operation in general," he said. "If you're only hiring white males, and I'm saying that as a white male, you're probably leaving a lot on the table in terms of where your organization can go and how it can think and how it can evolve and develop.

"We're looking for the best candidates and we're not pushing anybody aside. I think sports in general are moving well in that direction."

While a woman has yet to step behind an NHL bench, Becky Harmon has been an assistant coach with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs since 2014, while Kathryn Smith became the NFL's first full-time female assistant during the 2016 season with the Buffalo Bills. The NFL and NBA also employ female officials.

Wickenheiser said that although she realizes the new gig is another step for women in hockey, and sports in general, her focus is more on doing the job properly than thinking about what it means.

"It's about being competent and being good at what you do," she said. "I also understand that there will be a lot of young girls that will see this as knocking down barriers for them to maybe dream to do the same thing.

"It does show forward-thinking, it shows young girls that they can really do anything, but at the same time there's a competency and a performance standard."

William Nylander wants long-term deal from Maple Leafs https://briefnews.eu/william-nylander-wants-long-term-deal-from-maple-leafs/ https://briefnews.eu/william-nylander-wants-long-term-deal-from-maple-leafs/#respond Fri, 03 Aug 2018 00:44:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/william-nylander-wants-long-term-deal-from-maple-leafs/

William Nylander made it clear he wants to stay in Toronto for the long haul.

Now it's up to the restricted free agent's representatives and Maple leafs general manager Kyle Dubas to make it happen.

On hand Wednesday night to lend his support to the Smashfest ping-pong tournament, Nylander said his preference is to sign long-term with Toronto — a contract that could stretch as many as eight seasons — rather than ink a shorter bridge deal.

"Of course I want long-term," the 22-year-old said. "That's what I want to do, but we'll take it slow, day by day, and see what happens."

Nylander is the first of the Leafs' three young stars — Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are the others — to hit restricted free agency after playing out his entry-level contract.

The slick winger has put up back-to-back 61-point seasons, and combined for 48 goals and 87 assists in 185 career games.

Matthews and Marner, who were allowed to start formal contract negotiations at the beginning of last month, both said recently they were already in talks with the Leafs ahead of their third NHL seasons.

Sporting a summer beard and looking relaxed, Nylander said he isn't thinking about the possibility of not having a contract by the time training camp opens in mid-September.

Toronto Maple Leafs' rookie William Nylander extended his point streak to nine games, scoring the winning goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets. 0:30

"That's between my agent and Kyle," said Nylander, one of more than 20 NHLers on hand at Smashfest, a charity event that raises money for concussion and cancer research. "I'm waiting to see what happens.

"They're going to negotiate it, so I don't think that will be a problem."

Nylander does, however, see a problem for opposing teams matching up against the Leafs after the club signed star centre John Tavares to a massive free-agent deal worth US$ 77 million over the next seven years on July 1.

Toronto head coach Mike Babcock mused immediately after Tavares put pen to paper that he would start training camp with Matthews between Nylander and veteran Patrick Marleau on one line followed by Tavares centring Marner and Zach Hyman.

"I think it will be lots of fun. We didn't play at all together this year," Nylander said of the potential new trio. "Going into training camp knowing me and Auston have some chemistry and Marleau is a tremendous player … I don't think that anything can go wrong there."

The so-called third line would be led by Nazem Kadri, who just happened to scored 32 goals in each of the last two seasons.

"Having that down the middle will be very hard to match up against," Nylander said. "Some first lines will be playing against three really good centres. That means the other two lines will be able to go out and play against (an opponent's) second and third line."

Nylander said he was on the golf course when he learned via text message that Tavares had signed with Toronto, and recently skated with his new teammate for the first time at the Leafs' practice facility.

"The stuff he was doing out there," Nylander said, "was pretty sick."

John Tavares joins hometown Maple Leafs on 7-year deal https://briefnews.eu/john-tavares-joins-hometown-maple-leafs-on-7-year-deal/ https://briefnews.eu/john-tavares-joins-hometown-maple-leafs-on-7-year-deal/#respond Mon, 02 Jul 2018 13:40:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/john-tavares-joins-hometown-maple-leafs-on-7-year-deal/

Star forward John Tavares celebrated Canada Day on Sunday by announcing he's coming home to realize a boyhood dream of playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The crown jewel of this summer's free-agent class, the Mississauga, Ont., native has agreed to a seven-year contract worth $ 77 million US, with an average annual value of $ 11 million against the salary cap.

"I just felt this opportunity was so rare," Tavares said at his introductory news conference at the newly named Scotiabank Arena (formerly Air Canada Centre), with Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan to his right and general manager Kyle Dubas on his left. "I believe this team has a big window to win and be part of something special. It just felt right and was an opportunity I didn't want to turn down."

Fresh off signing a seven-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, John Tavares spoke to the media about his decision to come home and realize a boyhood dream. 1:29

Tavares' arrival, added Shanahan, is "another great and significant step for this organization" and marks the first big player move for the 31-year-old Dubas in his six-week tenure as the 17th general manager in Maple Leafs history. Two summers ago, Toronto missed out on Steven Stamkos, another prized free agent, when the native of Markham, Ont., decided to remain with Tampa Bay.

Tavares tweeted that he was going to Toronto just after 1 p.m. ET and then added a photo of himself sleeping on Maple Leafs sheets as a child.

"I'm thrilled to be starting a new chapter of my career and life in Toronto," the Tavares tweet read. "I feel very fortunate to come join a team with a great young core and play where I grew up learning and loving the game. I can't wait to get started!"

Tavares coming to Toronto is the biggest free-agent signing in Leafs' history — eclipsing the addition of Gary Roberts and Shayne Corson in 2000 — and the biggest in the league since Scott Niedermayer left the New Jersey Devils for the Anaheim Ducks in 2005.

Dubas said it became apparent late Saturday night that Tavares was leaning to becoming a Maple Leaf and that contract negotiations extended into Sunday morning. The Islanders had exclusive rights until midnight ET to negotiate an eight-year contract extension with Tavares, who was drafted first overall by New York in 2009.

Heart in 2 places

Boston, Dallas, San Jose and Tampa Bay were also in the mix this week as each, along with Toronto and New York, was allowed two hours at the Beverly Hills, Calif.-based office of Creative Artists Agency Sports to address Tavares, his agent Pat Brisson and fiancée Aryne Fuller.

It's believed the Maple Leafs created a promotional video to present to Tavares that included a few of the players.

Upon his return from Los Angeles, Tavares said his heart was in Toronto and New York.

"My heart was tearing apart trying to figure out what I wanted to do," he said, noting it was one of the toughest weeks of his hockey career. "[And Saturday] was one heck of a day. You can ask [Aryne] how many times I walked up and down the pool at my house trying to get a sense of what I wanted to do."

Deep down the middle

Perhaps in a last-ditch effort to keep the beloved player, the Islanders recently lured 2018 Stanley Cup-winning head coach Barry Trotz from Washington as well as former Maple Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello. However, under recently fired GM Garth Snow, New York failed to build a team around Tavares capable of competing for a Stanley Cup and has missed the post-season each of the past two years.

In Toronto, Tavares joins what could be one of the deepest, if not most talented, group of centres in the NHL with Auston Matthews and Nazem Kadri.

The 20-year-old Matthews, the No. 1 pick in 2016, has scored 74 goals and 132 points in 144 regular-season games. Kadri, 27, was drafted seventh overall in 2009. After posting 39 points in the 2014-15 season, the London, Ont., native has since responded with season totals of 45, 61 and 55.

Toronto is coming off a team-record 105-point season under head coach Mike Babcock that saw goalie Frederik Andersen break the franchise mark with 38 wins and a young core continue to develop that also includes Mitch Marner, William Nylander, Zach Hyman, Kasperi Kapanen, Connor Brown and Andreas Johnsson.

Tavares said he is "excited' about the career trajectory of Matthews and Marner.

"They've accomplished so much in such little time," he said. "The way they handle themselves, the way they deal with [playing in a hockey hotbed] in Toronto and just being able to play their game.

There's definitely a comfort level with Mike. His energy, vision and work ethic are second to none.— John Tavares on playing for Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock, with whom he won an Olympic gold medal in 2014

"Auston's got the potential to be one of the great goal-scorers in our league. He's got an amazing knack for finding the net [and] incredible stick skills, not just handling the puck but stripping guys, takeaways and being able to be so crafty. You have to be so careful with the puck around him.

"Mitch's speed and ability to control games at times and create time and space with his feet is extremely impressive. He's on top of the puck and he wants it, and I think that's a big quality to have."

Tavares, the biggest name to reach unrestricted free agency since the NHL brought in a salary cap following the 2004-05 lockout, also won a gold medal with Babcock at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

No rush to name captain

"There's definitely a comfort level with Mike," said Tavares. "He was tremendous in the meeting getting me to feel how I can be a part of this team and contribute. His energy, vision and work ethic are second to none. He's got results everywhere he's been."

Dubas said a decision on who will captain the team — Matthews and Tavares are obvious choices — would not be rushed, adding "we want to see how the group fits and works together. We feel we have some great leaders, John among them, and we'll make that call when it becomes apparent to us."

The 27-year-old Tavares scored 37 goals and 84 points in the final season of a six-year, $ 33-million deal signed in 2011.

Little playoff experience

Tavares' most productive NHL campaign came in 2014-15 when he notched 38 goals and 86 points for an Islanders outfit that lost in the opening round of the post-season. He has amassed 272 goals and 621 points in 669 regular-season games and 11 goals and 22 points in 24 playoff starts.

John Tavares, Paul Stastny, James van Riemsdyk, and more big names were all on the move on the first day of free agency signings in the NHL. 1:53

"The Island has been home, it's what I know, it's part of me — it always will be. I can't thank you all enough for the dedication you have all shown," Tavares said in a separate tweet announcing his decision. "I'm sorry if this decision pains you, as you can tell it wasn't easy, but have trust in the future because it is bright. The Islanders are in great hands."

New York has good young pieces in Calder Trophy winner Mathew Barzal and Anthony Beauvillier up front to go along with what was viewed by many as the one of the best drafts of 2018 after nabbing Oliver Wahlstrom and Noah Dobson, but still looks to be a long way off from contending after finishing last in goals against and shots allowed in 2017-18.

The deepest Tavares has played in an NHL post-season was two years ago following the Islanders' first regular campaign at Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.

After finishing fourth in the Metropolitan Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference, they eliminated the Florida Panthers in six games, courtesy of Tavares' goal in double overtime to mark New York's first playoff series victory since 1993. The Isles then suffered a five-game loss to Tampa Bay.

3 things to know about Tavares

  • He was granted "exceptional player" status to join the Ontario Hockey League at age 15 in 2005. Tavares was selected first overall in the OHL draft by the Oshawa Generals, and would go on to score an OHL-record 215 goals with 218 assists in 247 regular-season games. He added 56 points (20 goals, 36 assists) in 38 playoff outings.
  • Tavares helped Canada win back-to-back titles at the world junior hockey championship. He had four goals and an assist in seven tournament games in 2008 before putting up an incredible eight goals and seven assists in six games in 2009 in Ottawa, including a memorable hat trick against the United States on New Year's Eve.
  • Tavares was part of Canada's dominant gold-medal winning team at the 2014 Olympics, but suffered a knee injury in the quarter-finals that forced him to miss the rest of the tournament and the balance of the NHL season. He had one goal and three assists in 2016 as Canada won the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto.

Maple Leafs investing in Marlies to build Cup contenders at both levels https://briefnews.eu/maple-leafs-investing-in-marlies-to-build-cup-contenders-at-both-levels/ https://briefnews.eu/maple-leafs-investing-in-marlies-to-build-cup-contenders-at-both-levels/#respond Tue, 06 Mar 2018 23:00:32 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/maple-leafs-investing-in-marlies-to-build-cup-contenders-at-both-levels/

The sensible course for each NHL team is to build through the draft and have sound player development in the American Hockey League.

The top-two Canadian-based clubs this season, the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs, are proof of this philosophy.

Not only are the Jets and Maple Leafs considered legitimate Stanley Cup challengers, their respective AHL affiliates also are Calder Cup contenders.

The Leafs’ farm team, the Toronto Marlies, have the best record in the AHL at 40-16-2, and the Jets’ AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, sit third overall at 35-16-7.

But the longtime debate when it comes to NHL teams and its minor-league clubs is; Is it better to have a winner? Or, a team only concerned with development?

Well, why can’t you have both?

Development ‘priority No. 1’

“First and foremost, our job is to develop players — whether as Leafs call-ups who are going to help during the season, or guys who are going to play for the Leafs down the line or developing assets,” Marlies head coach Sheldon Keefe said.

“That’s priority No. 1, but we’ve been able to do that in a winning environment and that can help development too.”

Some teams are going to have blue-chippers who won’t spend a shift in the minors. But ideally, each club has five or so players in the AHL who will be cultivated and become contributors at the NHL level.

Keefe has turned over players like 21-year-old defenceman Travis Dermott and 21-year-old right winger Kasperi Kapanen to the Maple Leafs this season. At the trade deadline, defenceman Rinat Valiev and forward Kerby Rychel yielded veteran centre Tomas Plekanec from the Montreal Canadiens. Forward Nikita Soshnikov was sent to the St. Louis Blues for a fourth-round draft choice.

There are others such as forwards Andreas Johnsson, Frederik Gauthier, Jeremy Bracco and defenceman Timothy Liljegren who are close.

Deep pockets

The 37-year-old Keefe, in his third season as the Marlies bench boss, added his team has been fortunate because of the financial resources the parent club has poured into its farm team, whether it’s investments in the latest conditioning routines and nutrition trends, or salaries to bring in veteran players who can help in the win column and mentor the young talent.

The Marlies have several players who make good coin for playing in the AHL. Defenceman Martin Marincin is the club’s top earner at $ 1.3 million US, followed by goalie Calvin Pickard ($ 1.075 million), and forwards Colin Greening ($ 750,000), Ben Smith ($ 650,000) and Chris Mueller ($ 400,000).

“It’s incredible,” Greening said. “Some guys call this the 32nd NHL team because of how much resources this team has. From what I’m told that all changed four years ago when the new management came in.”

Greening, who turns 32 on Friday, has a good grasp on this NHL-AHL relationship. He won a Calder Cup with the 2010-11 Binghamton Senators and has played in more NHL regular season games than AHL games (286 to 234).

Greening a veteran presence

The Marlies, who have slumped lately with a 3-5-1 record in their last nine outings, have miles to travel before they can be crowned Calder Cup champs. But Greening sees a difference between his current club and the Binghamton team that won the AHL title seven years ago.

“What helped that team was that we had a lot of guys who had NHL experience,” said Greening, who played 24 games in Ottawa that season, his first year of pro.

“We also picked up a few pieces, like Ryan Potulny. He thrived in the playoffs [with 14 goals and 26 points in 23 games that spring].”

Greening was rather green seven seasons ago. Now he finds himself in a mentoring position with the young Marlies.

“The teacher is the coach,” he said. “I’m more of a veteran presence, someone who knows how to be a pro. It’s something I’ve learned over a number of years. In 2011, I learned from players like Ryan Keller.”

Calder Cup to Stanley Cup

This June marks the 25th anniversary of when the Montreal Canadiens defeated Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings in five games in the NHL final, the last time a Canadian-based club won the Stanley Cup.

Meanwhile, the Calder Cup has been captured by only three Canadian-based AHL teams in the same period: 1992-93 Cape Breton Oilers, 2000-01 Saint John Flames and 2006-07 Hamilton Bulldogs.

It’s never easy to predict what a Calder Cup championship means to the parent NHL team. When Saint John won, the Calgary Flames made it to the Stanley Cup final three years later. After goalie Carey Price and the Bulldogs were victorious, the Canadiens advanced all the way to the East final in 2010.

When Greening and Binghamton celebrated its AHL championship, Ottawa came within an overtime goal of making it to the Stanley Cup final last spring.

It will be interesting to see what’s in store for the Marlies and Moose in the next few months.
