Apple TV+ is headed back into space: The streamer has handed For All Mankind an early Season 3 renewal, more than two months ahead of its second season premiere. The alternate history drama, starring Joel Kinnaman, explores what would have happened if the USSR beat the Americans to the moon and the global space race had never ended. Season 2 debuts Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, with a new episode dropping each week. Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well… * Chicago P.D. has cast Cleveland Berto — whose credits include episodes of Lucifer and Shameless — in the series-regular role of Officer Jalen Walker, who turned down a Wall Street job to join CPD in the hopes of making a difference, our sister site Variety reports. * Jackée Harry (Sister, Sister) is joining NBC’s Days of Our Lives, the actress announced on the Today show, per Soap Opera Digest. * This Dec. 31 on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Billy Porter — who hosted the New Orleans festivities last year — will join Ryan Seacrest and Lucy Hale in Times Square, while Ciara will once again oversee the Los Angeles segments. * Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) and Ayo Edebiri (Big Mouth) will voice Netflix’s 2D-animated, interactive choose-your-own-adventure special We Lost Our Human, per Deadline. * Season 2 of David Makes Man, to premiere on OWN next summer, has cast 10 recurring roles, including Tony Plana (Ugly Betty) as a billionaire real estate developer who brings David an ambitious opportunity; Brittany S. Hall (Ballers) as an architect who has been dating David but loves her freedom as well; Erica Lutrell (Salvation) as Adult Marissa, a Miami-based marine biologist/activist; Zsané Jhé (Good Trouble) as Adult Shella, an entrepreneur extraordinaire; and Bobbi Baker (House of Payne) as Robin, David’s mom and Gloria’s loyal and level partner. Which of today’s TVLine Items pique your interest? Upon its Nov. 1 launch, Apple TV+‘s first original series included For All Mankind, which looks at the 1960s space race through the lens of an alternate history. Do you say da or nyet to the new drama? The following recaps only the first of the three episodes released on Nov. 1, followed by a non-spoilery overview of Episode 2. For All Mankind more or less opens with an ersatz Walter Cronkite anchoring the live broadcast of the very first moon landing, as the nation watches enrapt. Except, the person to emerge from the lunar module and set foot on the moon is not Neil Armstrong, but a Russian cosmonaut. Because in this version of history, Russia utterly blindsided NASA and won the space race, laying claim to what the newspapers will dub the “Red Moon.” What follows is a bit of panic and a lot of finger pointing at NASA, which is overseen by aerospace engineer Wenher Von Braun. President Nixon — seen in archival video that is overlaid with fictional dialogue — for one is immensely perturbed to be bested by Russia, seeing as it appears that his administration dropped the ball previously carried by Kennedy and Johnson. On a micro scale, the space jockeys at NASA are quite deflated, seeing as they had their eyes on that “first man” prize. But in addition to the disappointed Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, who are to pilot Apollo 11 in a few weeks, Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) plays Edward Baldwin, the commander of Apollo 10, which came within eight short miles of the moon’s surface… but was envisioned as a mere “dress rehearsal.” In flashbacks, we see how Ed and LM co-pilot Gordo Stevens were ever so tempted to seize the day and make the landing themselves… but Ed held back. In the wake of Russia’s historic feat, Ed and his colleagues hit a local watering hole, where a reporter looks to get some quotes on NASA being bested. Ed at first deflects the questions, but, lubricated by booze and agitated by anger, he gets to grousing about how NASA has lacked “guts” ever since the Apollo 1 fire. Ed winds up quoted in Newsweek, and from there his career goes a bit sideways — starting with him being pulled from Apollo 15. Luckily, he has just enough friends in the right places to hold onto a job, albeit riding a desk in the applications division. Dissatisfied, Ed mulls a return to the Navy, where he was a highly regarded pilot, though his likely assignment — to Vietnam — doesn’t sit well with wife Karen (Shantel VanSanten). The first episode culminates in the Apollo 11 mission that was to mark the first moon walk, but instead, the best hope is that they can make some news by having the astronauts share a live phone call with Nixon from the surface. This Apollo 11, however, experiences problems upon descent, and for a nail-biting stretch of time loses all telemetry with Mission Control. But, whew, just as Nixon is readying to read a mournful speech to the nation, Von Braun & Co. hear crackling over the radio, followed by Armstrong reporting on their rough-but-successful landing. What’s next, in this alternate reality? Episode 2 delves deeper into Ed’s dilemma, as he puts out feelers with a Navy pal — until he is approached by a congressman to testify in the hearings about NASA’s shortcomings; Von Braun learns of Nixon’s plans to reclaim supremacy in the space race, and thus keep NASA relevant (though Russia may have yet another trick up their sleeves); Tracy plots a big career move; and we get a bit more insight into Octavio and Aleida’s world/drama. Have you sampled any of For All Mankind‘s first three episodes, with the rest to be released weekly?

Elsewhere at NASA, we meet Tracy Stevens (Sarah Jones), Von Braun’s mentee of sorts who aspires to join Mission Control, and at one point during a simulation exercise demonstrates her know-how — though none of the dudes pay her much mind. Far from the Space Enter, we get intermittent glimpses of a group of Mexican immigrants making their way to the States, among them a young girl named Aleida and her father Octavio. It is not until Episode 2 that their story starts to take shape and lightly dovetail with what is happening at NASA, where months later Octavio will take a janitorial job.

The story of Neil Armstrong (first dude on the moon; you might’ve heard of him) gets the biopic treatment in First Man. La La Land director Damien Chazelle re-teams with Ryan Gosling for the film, which also stars Claire Foy. Watch the First Man trailer below.
As the first person to set foot on the surface of the moon, Neil Armstrong is one of the most famous figures in history. And yet, it’s taken a very long time for anyone to mount a biopic about his life. The untold story of Armstrong’s life is part of what drew director Damien Chazelle to the project. “What fascinated me about Neil Armstrong is that he is kind of a mystery,” Chazelle said. “For someone that accomplished something that is among one of the most famous things that anyone has ever accomplished, the human himself is a little bit of an enigma.”
While Chazelle’s La La Land underwent some awards season backlash, he’s a very talented director (I like La La Land, folks!), and I’m very interested to see where his career goes. His first three films – Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, Whiplash and La La Land – were all driven by music, which makes the space age biopic subject matter of First Man a bit of a change.
First Man might end up falling into some standard biopic tropes along the way, but visually, it looks impressive, and I’m curious to learn more about Armstrong’s life. Ryan Gosling plays Armstrong, while Claire Foy plays his wife, Janet Armstrong. The rest of cast features Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Jon Bernthal, Jason Clarke and Ethan Embry.
The script comes from Spotlight screenwriter Josh Singer, adapting James R. Hansen’s book. Hansen interviewed Armstrong for 50 hours to get to the heart of the man’s story. “Neil was not a showy person,” Chazelle said. “A lot of the other astronauts and pilots of that era were what you expect, the outgoing, hotshot types, but Neil was very different. He was the brainier, quieter, more introverted person and he’s a man of few words who did the job and got it done. I see a little bit of Ryan in that as well and I think Ryan was able to capture it beautifully.”
First Man opens October 12, 2018.
On the heels of their six-time Academy Award-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is in theaters, the road is clear for Warner Bros. Pictures to push their marketing campaign for Wonder Woman to full throttle. Over the past week, the studio has really ramped up the promotion for their summer blockbuster, which marks the first time a female superhero is getting their own movie. Now a new trailer shows off even more from the next installment of the DC Extended Universe.
Watch the new Wonder Woman trailer after the jump.
The action in this trailer looks positively astounding, better than anything we’ve seen thus far in the DC Extended Universe, even though they’re still keeping Ares hidden, instead choosing to paint Dr. Poison (Elena Anaya). Beyond that the tone of this movie is lighter without feeling watered down in any way. The closest comparison is Captain America: The First Avenger, especially with the period setting, but the action in Wonder Woman looks even more impressive. Along with the action is some humor to go along with it.
Warner Bros. Pictures has been unable to confirm whether they will move forward with a Wonder Woman sequel just yet (though director Patty Jenkins already has ideas for it), but I sincerely hope fans and general audiences turn out in droves to see her first foray on the big screen. Hopefully the fatigue that some fans have with the DCEU after being disappointed in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad will not keep them from giving Diana of Themyscira a chance to amaze them.

Patty Jenkins (Monster) is directing her biggest movie to date with a supporting cast that includes Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Lucy Davis as Etta Candy, Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta, Robin Wright as Antiope, Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff, David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan and more.
Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Wonder Woman arrives on June 2, 2017.

Warren Buffett sees cyber attacks as a bigger threat to humanity than nuclear weapons.
“I’m very pessimistic on weapons of mass destruction generally although I don’t think that nuclear probably is quite as likely as either primarily biological and maybe cyber,” Buffett said during Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholders’ meeting on Saturday.
“I don’t know that much about cyber, but I do think that’s the number one problem with mankind.”
Last year, Buffett said CNBC — cyber, nuclear, biological and chemical attacks — posed a major threat to the economic well-being of Berkshire shareholders.
“If [a nuclear attack] ever happens, there’ll be more to worry about than the price of Berkshire,” Buffett noted.
In 2015, Berkshire made a bet that could profit from increased cyber breaches. Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance launched two insurance policies that cover cyber liability and the costs incurred to respond to a data breach or threat.
Similarly, AIG launched a product earlier this year that covers expenses arising from online bullying and extortion, according to Fortune.
Buffett’s remarks came a day after thousands of documents were released online targeting French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron, before the second round of voting on Sunday. The incident brought flashbacks of the hack into Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s emails before last year’s election.

By 2040, four man-made Malaysian islands will have a slew of new high-rise apartment complexes, office buildings, parks, shopping malls, bus stops, hotels, restaurants, shops, schools, and sidewalks.
The $ 100 billion metropolis, called Forest City, is being built by Chinese developer Country Garden. The developers bill it as “a dream paradise for all mankind.”
While the mega-development sounds promising, several writers and housing experts worry it could become a ghost city — in this case, a high-tech, luxury urban center that fails to attract many residents. Since the 1970s, Chinese developers have built some-500 ghost cities in China.
Nearly 60 home buyers, 70% of which are Chinese, have now cancelled their leases in Forest City, reportedly due to China’s increasing efforts to curb money from leaving the country. In late March, China set new restrictions on the ways Chinese can invest and use their credit cards abroad, according to The New York Times.
While Forest City’s developer is Chinese, residents must make housing payments in Malaysia. As a result, many Chinese buyers say they are having trouble making credit card payments on their Forest City apartments, due to the government’s restrictions on transactions.
A spokesperson from Country Garden told Business Insider on April 7 that it is talking to buyers who may break their contracts to work out payment issues. The company will also issue refunds to those who decide to pull out.
Take a look at the city’s plans below.
