Bochkarev travelled to Norway to take part in an international seminar held in the Norwegian parliament on September 20-21. The man, who works in the Central Office of the Russian Senate, was invited to the event by the European Center for Parliamentary Research and Documentation, the ministry’s statement says, adding that the event was public and was attended by “parliamentary representatives from a dozen countries.”

“It is incomprehensible why the presence of a Russian representative at the seminar has led to such provocation,” the ministry said, adding that a “wave of spy hysteria” that has recently engulfed the West had taken a particularly “despicable form” in Norway. It also said that Oslo’s move would not be “left unanswered.”

Norway then rushed to explain that the arrest of the Russian man accused of “gathering some data” has nothing to do with politics and is treated as a criminal case. “This is not a political issue,” Prime Minister Erna Solberg told the Norwegian NTB news agency.

Several western countries have, indeed, gone on an apparent spy hunt, with mainstream media at times dominated by headlines on alleged “Russian agents.” Swiss and Dutch newspapers reported mid-September that the two countries carried out a joint operation with the UK, resulting in the Netherlands expelling two suspected Russian spies in March. This was later confirmed by Switzerland’s intelligence agency, which claimed it had foiled “a Russian plot,” targeting a Swiss laboratory which tests nerve agents such as Novichok.

The details provided by the western media and officials were so scant that it prompted the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to call on them to “present some facts” first, so that Moscow could respond to these allegations.

Meanwhile, the British authorities tirelessly accuse Moscow of being behind the poisoning of the former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter. Most recently, London presented the CCTV footage of two men it claimed were agents of the Russian military intelligence, the GRU, and accused the two of poisoning the Skripals.

The men, identified as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, gave an interview to RT’s editor-in-chief, Margarita Simonyan, where they said they claimed to be businessmen and tourists that got wrongly accused by the UK. Their explanation, however, appeared to be not convincing enough for London, which immediately rushed to denounce it as a blow to the “public’s intelligence.”

Meanwhile, across the pond, the US authorities are still looking for proof of Russia’s alleged interference in the US 2016 elections but have failed to find any so far. As part of the Russiagate scandal sweeping the US, a Russian gun rights activist, Maria Butina, got arrested. Butina, who has been accused of being an unregistered Russian lobbyist and basically a Russian agent, has been kept in prison for more than two months without any solid evidence of her guilt being presented.

Strowman shocked the world with the way that he won the championships against former title-holders Cesaro and Sheamus at WrestleMania.

“But we’re relinquishing the RAW tag titles.

“Nicholas has a scheduling conflict. I mean, he’s still in the fourth grade.

“But I can promise you one thing, as soon as he’s done with school we’re coming back for those.”

Young Nicholas agreed with Strowman’s statement.

He added: “And somebody’s going to get these hands.”

Angle then announced that four teams would compete in a Tag Team Eliminator tournament and the winners will face former champions Cesaro and Sheamus for the titles at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia.

The Revival beat Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in the first match of the tournament.

WWE recently announced that Cesaro and Sheamus would face The Hardy Boyz for the RAW tag Team titles in Jeddah so the result of the tournament may have been spoiled.

  • The number of public companies adding “blockchain” to their name, or announcing a pivot to blockchain technologies, will surge in 2018, says Autonomous Research.

You’d think an iced tea manufacturer adding “blockchain” to its name would mark the absolute apex of companies rebranding to ride surging interest in cryptocurrencies.

That’s not the case, says one research firm, which sees the trend only just getting started.

There will be more than 100 instances of companies changing their titles in 2018, up from 31 in 2017, according to an analysis conducted by Autonomous Research. The firm’s forecast is based on the similarly overwhelming number of corporate name changes seen during the dot-com bubble, when a large number of companies were trying to ride the Internet wave to quick stock gains.

In turn, Autonomous’ findings are based on a 2002 academic study that looked at so-called dot-com “name gaming” and found that 126 companies altered their titles in 1999, a massive increase over just 13 in 1998. The chart below reflects that explosion of name changes in year T+1, or 1999.

You’ll note, however, that the number of dot-com-branded companies dropped by roughly 30 just two years later — something that should give bitcoin bandwagoners pause. According to the 2002 report, the tech bubble “bust period” weeded out the true Internet companies, so it’s entirely possible that some alleged blockchain corporations will find themselves back-tracking in due time.

But with that potential reckoning far in the future, investors with exposure to these stocks have made a killing. In 2017, newly-branded blockchain companies surged 265%, dwarfing the 118% windfall seen from dot-com enthusiasts nearly two decades ago.

“Despite the declared advantages of cryptocurrencies (security, anonymity, and de-regulation), the same pros have become cons that the currency should not have,” TeleTrade financial consultant Mikhail Grachev told RT.

Anonymity makes it possible to pay for prohibited assets – drugs, weapons, says the analyst. The lack of regulation leads to a lack of responsibility, and if any controversial issue arises, it will hang in the air, he added.

“And the most important argument is that bitcoin, etherium and others cryptocurrencies, are quoted in US dollars, and no one has given up on the greenback in favor of a combination of digital symbols,” Grachev said.

The cryptocurrency market is going to crash, when people who invested on the dawn of the boom, will cash out, says the analyst.

“Cryptocurrencies can repeat the history of the 1929 stock market crash. Some say the recent collapse of bitcoin is attributed to the cancellation of its hardfork (SegWit2x), others say investors are fleeing bitcoin and buying bitcoin cash. It is possible that the year will close at levels near BTCUSD $ 7,500,” Grachev said.

Mikhail Mashchenko, an analyst at the social network for investors eToro in Russia and CIS has the opposite view. He is sure virtual money is here to stay.

The cryptocurrency market is very deep, and different currencies offer different solutions for investors, it is not only about bitcoin.

“IOTA crypto is about microtransactions without commissions. Ethereum is good for “smart contracts,” dash and the like are autonomous and so on. Bitcoin is used not only as a financial asset or as a means of exchange, but also as an alternative currency necessary for investing in competitive and complementary projects of the cryptocurrency industry,” he told RT.

The analyst is sure that as long as blockchain-based technologies continue to emerge, the industry will grow and bitcoin has a bright future.

Bitcoin is also highly unlikely to end like the Wall Street Crash of 1929, and doesn’t resemble other stock market crashes either, insists Mashchenko.

The dot-com bubble is more or less close to cryptocurrencies, the analyst admits, but the best companies of the dot-com era of 1997-2001 are prospering in 2017, having significantly increased their market cap.

However, bitcoin can be a very risky for first-time investors, the analyst warns.

“They do not know the elementary rules of trading and therefore buy at the highest prices and close their positions in panic at the slightest drop. A huge percentage of these people will lose money.”

Virtual currency bitcoin has officially become the largest bubble in history, eclipsing the notorious “Tulip Mania,” the speculative bubble that shook the Dutch economy before it collapsed in 1637.

According to analysts Howard Wang and Robert Wu from Convoy Investments, the bitcoin price has “gone up over 17 times this year, 64 times over the last three years and superseded that of the Dutch tulip’s climb over the same time frame.”

Their asset bubble chart released a month ago, went viral after showing that among all of the world’s most famous asset bubbles, bitcoin was only lagging the 17th-century tulip bulb mania. The analysts have updated the chart to show the price of the digital currency has more than doubled in just a month. So, as of now, bitcoin has won the global bubble race, finally having surpassed the “Tulips.”

Talking about the main driver of bubbles, Wang said: “When we see a dramatic rise in asset prices, there is often an internal struggle between the two types of investors within us.”

According to the analyst, the first is the value investor, “is this investment getting too expensive?” The second is the momentum investor, “am I missing out on a trend?”

While the effects of the tulip craze were devastating, bitcoin believers say the cryptocurrency’s rally is far from over and does not mean it is going to collapse, at least anytime soon. Investment guru Michael Novogratz told CNBC that “Bitcoin could easily be at $ 40,000 at the end of 2018.”

Novogratz, who has invested a quarter of his net worth in cryptocurrencies, added that bitcoin rival ethereum’s price “could be triple where it is as well.”

Talking about the possibilities of a bubble, bitcoin entrepreneur William Mook told RT that could happen but won’t be fatal as the cryptocurrency’s value “could not be permanently lost.”

Jay Clayton, the chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Committee, weighed in on the crypto-mania sweeping Wall Street in a statement Monday.

“The world’s social media platforms and financial markets are abuzz about cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings,” Clayton said. “There are tales of fortunes made and dreamed to be made.”

The market for cryptocurrencies has reached new heights in 2017, with bitcoin appreciating over $ 1,500% and gaining its own futures market. Initial coin offerings, a cryptocurrency-based twist on the initial public offering fundraising process, have raised more than $ 3 billion by some estimates. And Wall Street and Main Street are in a frenzy.

But Clayton wants investors to take off the rose-tinted glasses and approach the highly unregulated space with great caution. He emphasized that not a single initial coin offering has registered with the SEC. Here’s Clayton (emphasis his own):

“Investors should understand that to date no initial coin offerings have been registered with the SEC.  The SEC also has not to date approved for listing and trading any exchange-traded products (such as ETFs) holding cryptocurrencies or other assets related to cryptocurrencies. If any person today tells you otherwise, be especially wary.“

Many companies have shied away from the ICO designation, opting instead for “utility ICO” or “token generation event” as to distance themselves from the regulated world of securities. Clayton said games with semantics won’t fly with the SEC.

“Many of these assertions appear to elevate form over substance,” he said. “Merely calling a token a “utility” token or structuring it to provide some utility does not prevent the token from being a security.”

The international nature of cryptocurrencies can also pose a threat to investors, Clayton said:

“Please also recognize that these markets span national borders and that significant trading may occur on systems and platforms outside the United States. Your invested funds may quickly travel overseas without your knowledge. As a result, risks can be amplified, including the risk that market regulators, such as the SEC, may not be able to effectively pursue bad actors or recover funds.“

Still, Clayton recognizes the revolutionary potential of cryptocurrencies and blockchain.

“The technology on which cryptocurrencies and ICOs are based may prove to be disruptive, transformative and efficiency enhancing,” he said. “I am confident that developments in fintech will help facilitate capital formation and provide promising investment opportunities for institutional and Main Street investors alike.”
