Liverpool 1-0 Leicester -Sadio Mane gives the Reds the lead early in the Anfield snow with a fine low finish Liverpool: Alisson, Wijnaldum, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Keita, Mane, Firmino, Shaqiri, Salah. Subs: Fabinho, Lovren, Sturridge, Lallana, Mignolet, Origi, Camacho. Leicester: Schmeichel, Ricardo Pereira, Evans, Maguire, Chilwell, Mendy, Ndidi, Gray, Maddison, Albrighton, Vardy. Subs: Simpson, Morgan, Iheanacho, Ward, Barnes, Okazaki, Choudhury. Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire) Liverpool will look to extend their lead in the Premier League to seven points after Manchester City lost to Newcastle tonight. The Reds take on Leicester this evening at Anfield. Ahead of the match Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “They (Leicester) like playing against the top sides. They are not a massive counter-attacking side like they have been in the past but it’s still a threat. They don’t give you lots of space. “We expect a very dangerous opponent. They have quality and are a super team. I am sure they are not happy with their position. “They have invested a lot of money in the team. They’d have been happy with their position a few years ago but not after winning the league and playing in the Champions League.” Leicester City manager Claude Puel has talked about his side enjoying a break as they weren’t in FA Cup action at the weekend. He said: “It was a possibility to rest and to change our ideas, to come back to training with intensity, quality and focus. “It’s a good thing for these players, for the team, but we need to move on, to look forward, and now we have a fantastic challenge in these games.” FOLLOW ALL THE ACTION FROM LIVERPOOL V LEICESTER IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE BELOW Liverpool are determined to hold on to their top stars as challenge for the Premier League title this season. Mane has formed a world-class playing relationship with team-mates Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in recent months. The trio have helped Liverpool remain unbeaten in the league this season. And Mane has now pledged his future to the Merseyside club. Mane, who joined the Reds from Southampton in 2016, has agreed a five-year contract until 2023. He will officially put pen to paper on the contract in the New Year. Mane cost Liverpool £34m two years ago but has proven even more valuable to the Reds. He was instrumental in Liverpool’s charge to the Champions League final last season, where they lost to Real Madrid in Kiev. Anfield bosses are understood to have been calm about opening fresh talks over a new contract, with Mane having two-and-a-half years still on his current deal. But the new terms mean they can now not fear a potential move from Barcelona to sign the Senegal international. As Express Sport revealed this morning, Mane is one of a number of players Liverpool were aware could enter Barca’s radar. Liverpool have already reluctantly sold both Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho to the Nou Camp club in recent years. They inserted a clause in the Coutinho deal last January that stipulated Barca would have to pay an additional £89m (€100m) premium on top of any player they bought from the Reds until 2020. Salah is another top star who has attracted plenty of attention in recent years following his exceptional stint in the North West. But the Egyptian recently penned fresh terms on a deal, while Firmino is also well under contract. “I am very happy, very happy to extend my time at Liverpool,” Mane told Liverpool’s website. “It is a great day for me and now I am looking forward to everything – to helping the team, to helping the club achieve our dreams and, especially, to win trophies. “I’ve always said, when I knew I had a chance to come here I didn’t have to think twice. The right club in the right moment and with the right coach as well. I came here and was very happy. “For me, I have made the best decision in my career.”

The man who netted 44 goals last year and was on Monday nominated for the Uefa Player-of-the-Year award, may not have scored at Selhurst Park last night – but he was at the apex of everything.
It was Salah who was controversially tripped in the area by Mamadou Sakho to allow James Milner to put Jurgen Klopp’s team ahead with a cool penalty on the stroke of half-time.
It as Salah who ignored the furious boos from the Selhurst crowd convinced he dived and who continually tormented their defence. It was Salah who forced Aaron Wan-Bissaka into the trip that got him sent off and left Palace ending the game with only 10 men.
And it was Salah who set up Sadio Mane for Liverpool’s second in stoppage time.
Since Palace’s opening-day win at Craven Cottage, Wilfried Zaha has signed a new £130,000 five-year deal, which pretty much made it a very good summer for the club, along with Hodgson also penning a new one-year contract.
Memories of Selhurst Park have generally been good for Liverpool – except for the nightmare of May 2014, when the 3-3 draw there saw the title slip from their grasp. But they had won on their last three league visits to South London and, after an opening-day 4-0 thumping of West Ham, they arrived in as confident a mood as any in recent years.
New Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, manager Jurgen Klopp revealed in the build-up to last night’s game, has been toughening up by using rugby tackle bags in training – which when facing a player like Christian Benteke might well have been good preparation.
Another Liverpool goalkeeper, however, Loris Karius, was last night set to go to Besiktas on a two-year loan deal.

Liverpool were at Palace straight from the off. There were one or two shaky moments as the visitors pressed but Palace got away with them, Wayne Hennessey making an excellent punch to clear Andy Robertson’s cross.
Then when a superb ball from Naby Keita put Salah streaking through, Selhurst Park held its breath, but for once the Egyptian put the ball over the bar. But suddenly Palace broke and, when Keita lost the ball, Benteke set up Andros Townsend and the winger curled a glorious drive over Alisson, only to see the ball bounce back off the bar.
Patrick van Aanholt was lucky not to see a red card rather than a yellow for a challenge which flattened James Milner. But then on the stroke of half-time Sakho left his foot in on Salah as the Egyptian wriggled and then went down in the area, and referee Michael Oliver, to Palace’s outrage, gave the penalty.

Salah, who was booked for diving at Chelsea at the end of last season, walked off at half-time to a chorus of furious boos.
But he is not easily intimidated. On to another long ball from out of defence he raced and only a bold dive by Hennessey prevented further disaster for Palace. But Hodgson’s team, fired up by the apparent injustice of the penalty fought back, and skipper Luka Milivojevic saw his vicious free-kick turned round the post by Alisson before Van Aanholt shot over.
Then Benteke’s header was saved by the Brazilian goalkeeper.
Then Zaha, a danger all night, found space on the far post but his deflected drive was safely held by Liverpool’s new man between the posts.
But it was Salah who was again at the centre of things. When he galloped clean away again, Palace’s young defender Wan-Bissaka tripped him and the red card was inevitable. Salah took the free-kick, of course but Palace’s wall kept it out.
Right at the death it was that man again, supplying to Mane who made certain of Liverpool’s second win on the bounce.

Motorists experienced a new meaning of the word “horsepower” after being forced to share the road with a group of cheeky equines that broke free from their farm. Their adventure was brought to an end by their owners and police.
The 10 horses entered Highway 78 in Atlanta on Saturday, prompting confused motorists to drive slowly behind the unpredictable group. Footage posted online showed the horses galloping with confidence, despite it likely being their first time on the road.
The adventurous farm animals took advantage of an open gate at Little Creek Horse Farm, employee Brad Williams told CBS 46. “Fortunately nobody got hurt. They all had a good gallop up the road…”
One video posted to Twitter showed two police cars corralling the horses on the side of the road.
Little Creek Horse Farm thanked local police and patient motorists on Facebook, assuring that “steps will immediately be taken to assure this doesn’t happen again.”
Atlanta is no stranger to surprise visitors on its roadways. In September, a tiger was spotted on I-75 in the city, before eventually being shot and killed by officers in a nearby neighborhood. The tiger, a circus performer, made its great escape during a water break while traveling from Florida to Tennessee.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were all on the score-sheet again in Saturday’s 4-1 Premier League thrashing of West Ham United.
That took the Reds’ total tally of goals scored this season to 103, with 66 of those provided by their attacking triumvirate.
And the fluency of Salah, Firmino and Mane’s partnership – which has helped Liverpool sit two points off second in the league and all but assure them of a place in the Champions League quarter-finals – stands them up against any other attacking unit in Europe.
Only Paris-Saint Germain trio Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani have scored more than Liverpool’s threesome, but Oxlade-Chamberlain says he wouldn’t swap the two trios.
“The three of them work really well,” he said.
“And when they’re playing the way they can, when Bobby is coming deep and the other two are running in behind, it gives you so many options to play in behind or to feet to link up with them.
“When they’re on song, there is no three you’d rather have in front of you.
“It’s frightening. There won’t be too many trios in Europe that can muster up those sorts of numbers.
“They’ve been brilliant for us in front of goal. But defensively, as well, they know their jobs.
“They work really hard and they’re good, honest lads and good to be around. They’re the type of lads that you really want to see succeed and do well.
“You want to do everything you can to help them to achieve their goals and ultimately to help the team achieve all of our goals.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain gushed with praise for front-man Firmino, whose effort against the Hammers was his 22nd of the season.
The Brazil international is enjoying his best ever campaign, with his influential form even pushing him into contention for a starting spot at the World Cup.
But as dangerous as he is in front of goal, Oxlade-Chamberlain also enthused about Firmino’s defensive contributions.
“Bobby is such a quality striker,” hailed the England midfielder. “Especially in our team, he fits in so well.
“Bobby is one of the best I’ve seen at winning the ball back from the front.
“He presses people from their blind side and they don’t know he’s coming and he wins it back.
“He’s really good at dropping in as well. He can play as a false nine where he is not always so high, he drops in, comes short for the ball and that opens up the space for Mo and Sadio to run in behind.”

Klopp surprisingly left Mane out of his starting XI to face Chelsea, choosing to play Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain instead.
But after Willian’s late equaliser, the Liverpool boss turned to the Senegal ace to try and salvage a win and all three points.
Cameras caught Klopp shouting at Mane and the winger responding back to the German coach.
After the match, Klopp attempted to diffuse the situation by hugging a visibly frustrated Mane.
And speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp explained why the pair were arguing.
Klopp said: “I was shouting at him because he was in the centre.
“He said to me that Mo wanted to come into the position but Mo had 90 minutes in his legs. I wanted Sadio on the right-wing.
“Everything is now sorted immediately.”
Despite conceding a late equaliser to Chelsea, Klopp admitted it could turn out to be a good point for the Reds – although he admitted it would take him some time before he was happy with the result.
“I think I need a little bit of time to be happy,” he said.
“I’m happy about the performance, how we took the game. It’s a little bit more difficult when Chelsea played with eight defenders more or less.
“After a week like this (long trips away in the Champions League) we have both had, it was one of the better draws I’ve seen in my life.
“Of course, if you’re at home 1-0 up, you want the three points, that’s my problem at the moment.
“It was a really good game and at the end, it’s one point against Chelsea. There will be a moment tonight when I think the result is OK – but not now.”
Liverpool star Sadio Mane took part in training at Melwood despite picking up a knock during the international break.
There were fears for the Senegalese winger who has just recently returned to action from another injury, but his presence on the training field will have been a boost for fans.
It is unclear whether he will start against his former club Southampton at the weekend – but his injury doesn’t appear to be serious.

Coutinho was playing in a front three for Liverpool for the visit of Manchester United.
That was because Sadio Mane injured his hamstring on international duty with Senegal last week.
Coutinho has been utilised amongst the Liverpool midfield so far this season and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher says it looked like he was still playing there in the first half at Anfield.
“It revolves around Philippe Coutinho,” Carragher said whilst working as an analyst on the game.
“He’s been playing more in the midfield three.
“He’s now part of the front three but he’s playing like he’s still part of the midfield.
“So Liverpool have only really got (Mohamed) Salah who is penetrating.
“(Roberto) Firmino comes to the ball, and the three midfield players are also very similar, they like to go to the ball, they don’t like running without it.
“So that’s why Salah has been the bright spark, the one player who can penetrate.
“That’s what they are lacking.
“Of course they miss Mane, but I think Philippe Coutinho has got to remember he’s part of a front three and stop going so deep.”
Mane has become a key player for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp with three goals in five Premier League appearances this season but he now faces missing six weeks of action, starting with Manchester United on Saturday.
Liverpool revealed Mane picked up the injury while on international duty with Senegal and scans have confirmed the huge blow.
Liverpool said in a statement on their official website: “The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday.
“And it has now been confirmed that he picked up an injury during that fixture that could keep him out of action for up to six weeks.
“Mane, whose lay-off will commence when Manchester United visit Anfield on Saturday, has scored three goals in four Premier League appearances this term.”
Mane will miss games against United, Maribor, Spurs, Huddersfield, Maribor, West Ham, Southampton, Sevilla, Chelsea.
He also joins Adam Lallana on the sidelines, with the England ace making a slow recovery from a thigh injury sustained in pre-season.
Mane’s absence could mean a chance for summer signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to kick-start his Liverpool career.
Striker Daniel Sturridge will also be hopeful of getting a run in Klopp’s starting XI.
And Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to slam the international break.
“International break is the f***ing worst,” @lorenzi95 said.
@WelshLallana tweeted: “Oh well f*** international break it’s back to LFC Now and mane’s fucking injured woo.”
@TheOneLiam said: “F***ing International break winds me right up, Meaningless football during important period of domestic football and it always cost teams players.
“Mane gone for 6 weeks. International football should be banned during proper season.”
