The 15 biggest wealth managers in the world https://briefnews.eu/the-15-biggest-wealth-managers-in-the-world/ https://briefnews.eu/the-15-biggest-wealth-managers-in-the-world/#respond Mon, 11 Jun 2018 07:09:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-15-biggest-wealth-managers-in-the-world/ wealthyDan Kitwood/Getty

The private wealth management industry had a strong year in 2017 with 25 of the leading global players increasing their assets under management (AUM) by almost 14%, as the number of high net-worth individuals and affluent investors has continued to grow.

UBS tops the rankings with $ 2,402.8 billion AUM, over double that of its closest rival. China Merchants Bank also entered the top 10 in 2017 and was the first Chinese bank ever to do so.

Much of this success is the result of greater wealth across the Asia-Pacific region and growing interest in professional management by the high-net worth individuals there. This meant Chinese growth was about 3.5% higher then the rest of the top wealth managers, according to the research by GlobalData and Private Banker International.

Deutsche Bank, EFG International and ABN Amro were the only wealth managers in the ranking to lose ground in 2017.

15. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) – $ 206 billion

Today Online

One of China’s “big four” state owned banks, ICBC is considered to be the largest bank and public company in the world by assets, with a private wealth management arm that ranks 15th in the world for AUM and climbing.

14. Wells Fargo – $ 248 billion

Washington Post

The San Francisco-headquartered bank has a prominent wealth management arm and remains one of the biggest names in US banking.

13. Deutsche Bank Wealth Management – $ 256.8 billion

The 17th largest bank in the world by total assets, wealth management is one of three pillars of Deutsche Bank’s (DB) business. DB’s wealth management arm is one of the few in this ranking to lose ground on AUM in 2017, giving the leadership more bad news to handle.

1,350 top money managers rated Wall Street’s CEOs, and you can probably guess who came out on top (JPM, C, MS) https://briefnews.eu/1350-top-money-managers-rated-wall-streets-ceos-and-you-can-probably-guess-who-came-out-on-top-jpm-c-ms/ https://briefnews.eu/1350-top-money-managers-rated-wall-streets-ceos-and-you-can-probably-guess-who-came-out-on-top-jpm-c-ms/#respond Sat, 31 Mar 2018 13:52:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/1350-top-money-managers-rated-wall-streets-ceos-and-you-can-probably-guess-who-came-out-on-top-jpm-c-ms/ Jamie DimonChip Somodevilla/Getty Images

  • JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is the best of Wall Street’s top executives, according to ratings from investors compiled by Procensus.
  • Of the nine global bank CEOs rated, Dimon ranked the highest overall as well as in four of the six “competencies” the CEOs were judged on.
  • Morgan Stanley’s James Gorman came in second, and he beat out Dimon on ratings for market communication and hitting financial plans and targets.
  • While the top-rated CEOs had strong stock performance, it wasn’t a perfect indicator of investor favor. Citigroup’s Michael Corbat ranked seventh despite the bank’s strong performance in the past year.

JPMorgan Chase dominates nearly every Wall Street business, so it’s not exactly a shock that investors consider Jamie Dimon the best of all the big-bank CEOs.

But Dimon isn’t the top performer in every competency required of a Wall Street executive. Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman is superior at market communication and executing on company plans and financial targets, according to a wide swath of buy-side investors.

The gender pay gap at the UK’s biggest banks, asset managers, and insurers — from best to worst https://briefnews.eu/the-gender-pay-gap-at-the-uks-biggest-banks-asset-managers-and-insurers-from-best-to-worst/ https://briefnews.eu/the-gender-pay-gap-at-the-uks-biggest-banks-asset-managers-and-insurers-from-best-to-worst/#respond Sat, 31 Mar 2018 09:53:18 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-gender-pay-gap-at-the-uks-biggest-banks-asset-managers-and-insurers-from-best-to-worst/ UK BanksReuters

LONDON — New figures show that men earn an almost 60% more than women on average at some of the UK’s top financial institutions.

UK companies with more than 250 employees have been forced to reveal their gender pay gaps under new rules introduced by the British government.

Business Insider rounded up all the data that has so far been published by the largest banks, insurers, and asset managers in the UK. It includes international firms like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, which have large operations in Britain.

It is, in theory, possible for firms to have a gender pay gap where women earn more than men on average but it is a rarity. Average pay at all firms on this list is higher for men than that for women.

Institutions are ranked in ascending order by the size of their mean pay gap between men and women, while median pay gaps are also included.

This list will be updated as more firms release their pay stats as the government’s April 5 deadline approaches.

Active fund managers hold fewer and fewer stocks https://briefnews.eu/active-fund-managers-hold-fewer-and-fewer-stocks/ https://briefnews.eu/active-fund-managers-hold-fewer-and-fewer-stocks/#respond Fri, 09 Mar 2018 03:43:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/active-fund-managers-hold-fewer-and-fewer-stocks/

THE past decade has been tough for conventional “active” fund managers, who try to pick stocks that beat the market. They have been losing business to “passive” funds—those that try to replicate a benchmark, like the S&P500 index. Passive funds have much lower fees.

Figures from Inalytics, a company that analyses fund managers’ portfolios, suggest that active managers are changing strategy in response. The average number of stocks in global equity portfolios has halved, from 121 to 61 (see chart). In a sense, active managers have become more active, making bigger bets on individual stocks. This makes their portfolios less like the index, meaning they can beat the market by a larger margin. But they can also do a lot worse. The portfolios examined by Inalytics have outperformed, but in the long term the average manager is unlikely to do so, since the index reflects average performance.

Moreover, managers incur costs and the index does not. The result of more active management…

Premier League in danger as foreign owners keep sacking managers – COLIN MAFHAM COLUMN https://briefnews.eu/premier-league-in-danger-as-foreign-owners-keep-sacking-managers-colin-mafham-column/ https://briefnews.eu/premier-league-in-danger-as-foreign-owners-keep-sacking-managers-colin-mafham-column/#respond Wed, 07 Mar 2018 14:55:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/premier-league-in-danger-as-foreign-owners-keep-sacking-managers-colin-mafham-column/

WHOEVER first said “football is a funny old game” definitely didn’t have a sense of humour. Just ask Alan Pardew – and half a dozen other Premier League managers as well for that matter.

Pards goes into Saturday’s game against Leicester well aware that another defeat will probably see him sacked. And he’s only he had the job four months or so.

Even after being fired by three other clubs before this one Pardew at his most cynical could reasonably expected to have been given a bit longer to turn things around at West Brom.

But what is even more distasteful about this is that if he does get the bullet it will be fired from 5,000 miles away in China where the club’s owners do business.

The Baggies chief executive has been summoned there to meet paymasters he has never actually met before – and who have already fired one West Brom manager, a chairman, and a chief executive since last November – to discuss Pardew’s future.

It’s a crazy situation for him and the players and will almost certainly end in Albion’s relegation at the end of this season, with or without the present manager.

I’m not saying it was a league of gentlemen before, but the arrival of several foreign owners has brought a rather more ruthless culture to the Premier League. If such a thing is possible.

Pardew isn’t the only one. Remember what happened to several other managers at Birmingham City, and what most observers reckon is very likely to be the fate of Mauricio Pellegrino at Southampton.

Mr Pardew was, of course, manager of the Saints before they were taken over by a Chinese gentleman last year, and when they were run by a Swiss/German family.

But despite his own perilous predicament Pards will have sympathy with the latest potential managerial casualty at St Mary’s where the Argentinian has struggled to make an impact during his brief time in charge and may well pay the price in what looks like being a brutal summer of discontent in the Premier League.

Antonio Conte looks certain to go through the Stamford Bridge exit door at the end of the season after his Russian boss, Roman Abramovich, appears to have come to a bizarre conclusion that failing to win the league title for a second consecutive year is a failure.

Then, of course, you have the ongoing saga of Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal, where his American boss, Stan Kroenke, has sent his son, Josh, over from the States to try to sort out the Gunners demise.

To be fair the American has stood by Wenger rather more than other football club owners from other parts of the world.

And just in case you think I’m a ranting old racist – which I vehemently deny, by the way – I refer you to two other managers facing the chop sooner rather than later, who are run by Englishmen!

Rafa Benitez may choose to jump before he’s pushed at Newcastle, where Mike Ashley has, in his defence, poured million into the Geordies. But now he is now dithering to such an extent that the Premier League future of the club he has generously funded is now threatened.

Peter Coates has been similarly supportive at Stoke, but I can’t see Paul Lambert surviving there beyond the end of May if the Potters are relegated, can you?

Same story at West Ham where the Davids Sullivan and Gold somewhat surprisingly gave David Moyes the job until the end of the season, but if past dealings are anything to go by won’t hesitate to send him on his way if expectations are not realised.

You couldn’t make it up, could you? Even good old John McEnroe (and Alan Pardew, of course) might say of our Premier League sack race: You can not be serious!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A STRANGE request, I know, but is there anyone out there prepared to loan me £140million. Interest free?

I would ‘buy’ Sunderland Football Club with the money, and although none of the present squad is worth a brass farthing the Stadium Of Light would fetch bit if the worst happened, wouldn’t it?

I haven’t actually spoken to owner Ellis Short since he offered to give the club away for free to anyone prepared to take on its £140million debts, but I’m sure we could come to some sort of arrangement if he would like to get in touch.

Unlike his present managerial team I would hand P45s to every single one of the players who have virtually guaranteed Sunderland’s relegation to League One – and fight them in court if need be.

What’s happened to the club I’ve supported all my life is a disgrace by players who ought to be ashamed of themselves. So if anyone does have £140million to spare, I’m ready, willing, and able to spend it wisely!

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

A startup that provides coaching for tech workers reveals the best thing managers can do to keep millennials from quitting https://briefnews.eu/a-startup-that-provides-coaching-for-tech-workers-reveals-the-best-thing-managers-can-do-to-keep-millennials-from-quitting/ https://briefnews.eu/a-startup-that-provides-coaching-for-tech-workers-reveals-the-best-thing-managers-can-do-to-keep-millennials-from-quitting/#respond Sun, 21 Jan 2018 16:38:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/a-startup-that-provides-coaching-for-tech-workers-reveals-the-best-thing-managers-can-do-to-keep-millennials-from-quitting/ millennial young workers employees meetingShutterstock

  • Millennials change jobs more frequently than previous generations.
  • They might quit because they feel their work doesn’t have meaning.
  • A manager can keep millennial workers from leaving by setting clear goals and assigning tasks that show an understanding of what drives them.

Millennials have a reputation as the “job-hopping” generation. In 2016, a Gallup poll revealed that 21% of millennials said they changed jobs within the past year (more than three times the number of non-millennials who reported the same), and 60% are open to new opportunities.

There’s a secret to keeping millennials workers from quitting, according to BetterUp, a startup that provides “virtual coaching” to tech company managers in Silicon Valley.

Millennials want to feel like their work has meaning.

“Americans, for better or worse, are spending more and more of their waking lives at work. So if they’re going to spend more time at work than with their family, at least let it be meaningful,” said Dr. Jacinta Jiménez, a psychologist who heads up the coaching department at BetterUp.

Data backs up the claim. Millennials in general work more hours, forfeit more vacation days, and retire much later than previous generations. They also make less money than their parents did at the same age. These conditions can result in burnout or a lack of engagement at work.

Jiménez says feeling that work has impact can be a huge motivating factor. A manager should set clear goals for their millennial workers and assign tasks that play to their strengths and passions. It shows an understanding of what excites them and trust in their abilities.

“You’re able to bring all of you to work. Your manager understands you as a person and your strengths. And that in itself can create meaning,” Jiménez said.

It might be enough to keep millennial workers from leaving.
