Known as Penny Hofstadter (played by Kaley Cuoco) after her marriage to Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), fans have never been told of her maiden name.

There is a reason why it has not been shared and it has been confirmed that fans will be left tormented forever and will never find out her maiden name.

The Big Bang Theory writer Steve Molaro revealed at WonderCon: “Eventually we got nervous and superstitious about giving her one.”

Molaro, alongside co-writer Tara Hernandez and executive producer Steve Holland, also revealed: “Her name will always be Hofstadter.”

With the show ending on May 16, fans will be left disappointed that they will never solve the conundrum.

One exasperated Twitter fan previously claimed: “If The Big Bang Theory doesn’t tell us what Penny’s maiden name is before the show ends, I’m rioting!”

Another added: “It still bothers me that the world doesn’t know what Penny from The Big Bang Theory’s maiden name is.”

Molero also revealed it would be “cool” if Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper, was to join the cast of a future spin-off.

Penny star Kaley Cuoco has been vocal about the show’s ending, about how emotional it has made her and revealed the ending she wants.

She admitted to PopSugar: “I’d love to see the elevator get fixed.”

She also admitted that she just wants the finale to bring together the best of the show and give it the ending it deserves.

She said: “It’s going to be a surprise to all of us. Everyone is struggling to let go of this show, even the writers.

“I know that we’re all going to freak out reading that final episode. I hope that whatever loose ends they felt they needed to tie up will be tied up.

“I’m sure they want to see where all these characters end up, and I think the writers don’t want to leave some sort of ending.

“They want these characters to live on in people’s minds and hearts, so it’s going to have to be written in a very special way.”

CBS have announced the hour-long series finale will be released on May 16.

Fans will have to wait until then to discover what happens to their favourite
characters in the end, and whether the elevator does get fixed.

However, one thing they will not find out is Penny’s maiden name.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays on CBS and in the UK on E4.

China’s ‘Peace Ark’ ship makes maiden visit to Venezuela (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/chinas-peace-ark-ship-makes-maiden-visit-to-venezuela-video/ https://briefnews.eu/chinas-peace-ark-ship-makes-maiden-visit-to-venezuela-video/#respond Sun, 23 Sep 2018 15:42:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/chinas-peace-ark-ship-makes-maiden-visit-to-venezuela-video/ A Chinese hospital vessel has moored at a port near Caracas, where its staff will be providing free medical care to Venezuelans. Recently, a similar-class ship was sent by the US to Colombia to treat refugees fleeing Venezuela.

The ‘Peace Ark,’ a Chinese Navy 300-bed hospital ship, has moored on Saturday at the port of La Guaira lying close to Venezuelan capital. The vessel, which was commissioned back in 2008, is said to have eight surgery rooms and a medevac helicopter.

According to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the ‘Peace Ark’ will stay in Venezuela for about a week. During the stay, the Chinese commander of the ship would meet with military and political officials and inspect Venezuelan and medical facilities.
China is one of Venezuela’s key ally, and the vessel’s visit was seen there as a sign of Beijing’s support to the crisis-hit country. Maduro himself only recently came back from a trip to China where he sought to attract investment and new loans. Though Beijing leaders pledged to help Caracas, it made no reference to pumping more money in Venezuela’s economy.

The ‘Peace Ark’ had received warm greetings from Venezuela’s top military brass. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopes, who was on hand to greet the Chinese ship, told the crew: “This is how you undertake diplomacy in the world … with concrete actions of cooperation and not stoking the false voices of those who beat the drum of war.”

He later wrote on Twitter the visit was a manifestation of “a true diplomacy of peace” and maintained Venezuela and China “share a common destiny.”

President Maduro, in turn, declared the Chinese ship’s visit spelled the start of “a combined integrated strategic operation between the two countries.” He refrained from further elaborating.

The Chinese goodwill mission overlapped with a similar one launched by the US. The Pentagon announced in August that it will send its own 250-bed hospital ship, the USNS Comfort, to neighboring Colombia. While the US military maintained the Comfort’s mission has nothing to do with politics, it casually slammed Maduro and his policy.

“We’re not sending soldiers; we’re sending doctors. And it’s an effort to deal with the human cost of Maduro, and his increasingly isolated regime,” Defense Secretary James Mattis said.

Venezuela’s socialist government envisioned the Comfort’s deployment as part of an attempt by the US to pave the way for a military action against the country. It is unclear if this suspicion has grounds in reality, but Washington has indeed vowed to increase pressure on Venezuela and undertake “a series of actions” in the coming days.
Venezuela has recently seen a wave of anti-government protests demonstrations hyperinflation in the country and the drop in global oil prices, the main export for the Latin American state. On the back of snowballing troubles in the economy, Venezuelans have protested against shortages of food and water, as well as soaring unemployment.

A public inquiry looking into how Elizabeth Wettlaufer was able to kill eight elderly patients in her care heard conflicting accounts Thursday about whether the ex-nurse was on a “do not hire” list used by one of Canada’s largest nursing home owners early in her career.

Thiem dominant after Nadal upset, one step from maiden title https://briefnews.eu/thiem-dominant-after-nadal-upset-one-step-from-maiden-title/ https://briefnews.eu/thiem-dominant-after-nadal-upset-one-step-from-maiden-title/#respond Sat, 12 May 2018 23:00:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/thiem-dominant-after-nadal-upset-one-step-from-maiden-title/ DOMINIC Thiem followed up his sensational victory over world number one Rafael Nadal by easing past Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday to reach the Madrid Masters final.

The fifth-seeded Austrian, who ended Nadal’s 21-match and 50-set winning streak on clay Friday, needed 85 minutes to dispose of his South African opponent, seeded sixth.

Thiem, the runner-up to Nadal in the 2017 Madrid final and still chasing a maiden Masters title, will face German second seed Alexander Zverev, who swept past Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-1, in Sunday’s championship match.

“I will try everything on Sunday. A Masters 1000 title would mean a lot to me because it’s obviously really tough to win one,” said Thiem.

“To be honest, I thought also myself that I was pretty far away before this week started. Now I’m in the finals again, which is amazing for me.” Thiem is playing in just his third tournament since a right ankle fracture suffered at Indian Wells while US Open runner-up Anderson was competing in his first semi-final at Masters level, ending a run of 10 prior losses in quarter-finals at this level.

The 24-year-old Austrian broke Anderson in a nine-minute opening game which was enough to secure the first set in 49 minutes.

A double fault gave Thiem the decisive break to open the second set and he broke again for a 4-1 lead before securing victory with a service winner as he reached his 15th career final and fifth in a row on clay.

Thiem said he is feeling stronger after his ankle injury as he builds up to the French Open later this month and has tried to forget recent losses to Nadal in Monte Carlo and his shock exit at the hands of Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas in Barcelona.

“There was a little bit of lack of confidence in Monte Carlo and Barcelona,” he said.

“It took me a while until I was moving my best again, until I was playing my best again. I think the level of my game increased especially in this week.” Zverev, 21, took less than an hour to see off 19-year-old Shapovalov, the youngest player to reach the semi-finals in Madrid.

The beanpole German will be seeking a third Masters title after wins in Rome and Montreal in 2017.

“This is the earliest I’ve finished all week,” joked Zverev. “Now I don’t know how to do for the next four hours.” Coming off a successful title defence in Munich last week, Zverev had faced just one break point all week before Saturday and was never troubled by Shapovalov who will at least have the consolation of breaking the world’s top 30 for the first time next week.

Shapovalov had lost to Zverev in the Montreal Masters semi-finals last year and before this week had never won a main tour clay-court match.

On Saturday, his challenge quickly unravelled when Zverev put together a seven-game run from 3-4 down in the first set to a 4-0 advantage in the second.

‘Stoked’: Aussie takes thrilling maiden MotoGP pole https://briefnews.eu/stoked-aussie-takes-thrilling-maiden-motogp-pole/ https://briefnews.eu/stoked-aussie-takes-thrilling-maiden-motogp-pole/#respond Sat, 07 Apr 2018 22:55:56 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/stoked-aussie-takes-thrilling-maiden-motogp-pole/ JACK Miller will start from the first pole position of his MotoGP career after topping a thrilling qualifying session for the Grand Prix of Argentina.

Held in damp but drying conditions, Miller gambled on switching to slicks to net the first premier class pole position by an Australian rider in five and a half years.

It also marks the first pole position for a satellite Ducati, Miller edging out Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa and Tech3 Yamaha’s Johann Zarco with his last lap of the session.

“I’m stoked, can’t thank the team enough for getting me here,” Miller said. “It’s a cool feeling, that’s for sure.”

The 12 riders started the Q2 session on wets, Miller doing one flying lap tha tput him well inside the top 10 before gambling that slick tyres would be up to the task.

“I remembered the race from Moto3 a few years ago when it was wet and they were all on slicks and they had really good grip, and I know here the wet tyres overheat really quickly,” he said.

“I went out on the wets, did one lap and it was quite a good lap time, I was happy to have one in the bank. Then it was an all-in bet for the slicks.”

Miller wasn’t the only one to test the waters on dry rubber.

Yes, no surprises, Marc Marquez was the one to have a go on slicks too, but he came straight back in for another set of wets without even starting a flying lap.

The Australian persisted, taking three laps to beat his wet-tyre time. His fourth lap, completed after the chequered flag, did the trick.

“For me, once I made my bet I had to stick with it,” Miller said.

“I knew I had to change and go quite quickly to do as many laps to build some temperature and to understand where I could push and where I had to be calm. I just kept working on trying to manage it.

“Through (Turns) 7 and 8 was the worst, it was completely wet, a lot of standing water and was very dangerous. I nearly went down a few times there by just trying to touch the gas a little bit and it just tried to go over on me.”

Miller’s pole-winning effort heads a mixed-up grid courtesy of the damp conditions.

Tito Rabat, the Australian’s former teammate at Marc VDS, will start from the best grid position of his MotoGP career after qualifying fourth, with Alex Rins’ Suzuki alongside.

World champion Marc Marquez could only manage sixth after reverting back to wets, 0.611sec off Miller’s pace, to round out the second row.

Qatar winner Andrea Dovizioso will start from the middle of the third row after fighting his way out of Q1. His factory Ducati teammate wasn’t so lucky, Jorge Lorenzo missing the final transfer spot into Q2 and consigned to starting from 14th.

The factory Yamahas will have to fight their way up from lowly grid positions if they are to repeat their 1-2 of last year, Maverick Vinales qualifying ninth while Valentino Rossi could only manage 11th.

The MotoGP race gets underway at 4am AEST on Monday morning.

Jaguar creates custom Greatest Hits XJ for Iron Maiden drummer https://briefnews.eu/jaguar-creates-custom-greatest-hits-xj-for-iron-maiden-drummer/ https://briefnews.eu/jaguar-creates-custom-greatest-hits-xj-for-iron-maiden-drummer/#respond Wed, 07 Mar 2018 03:40:17 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jaguar-creates-custom-greatest-hits-xj-for-iron-maiden-drummer/

Manufacturers like Alfa Romeo and Toyota are trotting out Nürburgring-themed special editions like NRING and GRMN, but for Jaguar, it’s all about the NWOBHM. That’s New Wave of British Heavy Metal, for those who do not start their day with some ’80s hair metal turned up to 11.

Jaguar is celebrating the venerable XJ sedan’s 50th anniversary this year, and as part of that, the Jaguar Classic Works department in Coventry, England, has built Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain’s perfect Series III XJ. The custom car, nicknamed “Greatest Hits,” is the product of over 3,500 work hours and 4,000 redone parts.

The Series III is, for some, the ultimate development of the first XJ body style, and McBrain’s car is his third Series III. It’s in most respects a restomod, as the front and rear bumpers, headlights, wheels, infotainment and other details have been modernized; the interior features rock-inspired custom touches like the guitar amplifier-style rotary knobs on the dashboard. The speakers of the 1,100-watt audio system are from the 2012 model year Jaguar XF, as those are what McBrain prefers. The steering wheel logo is a combination of the Iron Maiden mascot, “Eddie,” and the Jaguar “Growler” logo.

The Jaguar leaper mascot on the hood is from McBrain’s first Jaguar XJ6; the paint is a special deep purple, and the interior has been retrimmed with Pimento red leather. But it’s not just the appearance of the “Greatest Hits” XJ that has been massaged, as the 4.2-liter straight six of the 1984 XJ6 has been upgraded with three E-type SU carburetors. It also has a custom exhaust with quad tailpipes.

There have been nine XJ series so far, and the 10th version is expected to arrive sometime next year. There are persistent rumors that it might eschew internal combustion completely, facing a reinvention as an electric sedan instead.

Russia says new Tu-160M2 long-range bomber will make its maiden flight by the end of January https://briefnews.eu/russia-says-new-tu-160m2-long-range-bomber-will-make-its-maiden-flight-by-the-end-of-january/ https://briefnews.eu/russia-says-new-tu-160m2-long-range-bomber-will-make-its-maiden-flight-by-the-end-of-january/#respond Tue, 23 Jan 2018 23:21:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/russia-says-new-tu-160m2-long-range-bomber-will-make-its-maiden-flight-by-the-end-of-january/ Russia Tu 160M2

  • Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said in early January that the Tu-160M2 will make its maiden flight by the end of the month.
  • With January coming to a close, we’ll soon see if the Rogozin’s statement is accurate.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said in early January that the Tu-160M2 will make its maiden flight by the end of the month, according to Alert 5.

We saw the announcement when it was retweeted by United Aircraft Corporation, which builds the planes.

The Tu-160M2 is an upgrade to the Tu-160M and original Tu-160, but Russian media has reported that it’s expected to be a new bomber in all but name.

It was scheduled to first fly in February, but Tupolev, a subsidiary of Russia’s UAC, said it would fly before that, Alert 5 reported.

Col. Gen. Viktor Bondarev, commander of the Russian Air Force, previously said that the upgraded bomber “is expected to make its first flight by the end of 2018, followed by full-scale production in 2021.”

It should be noted, however, that Russia has made predictions about its military technology and weapons that never happen. For example, it claimed in 2015 that it would make 2,300 T-14 Armata battle tanks by 2020, but later had to scale it back to 100 by 2020 because of budgetary problems.

Bevilacqua not giving up on maiden title https://briefnews.eu/bevilacqua-not-giving-up-on-maiden-title/ https://briefnews.eu/bevilacqua-not-giving-up-on-maiden-title/#respond Fri, 12 Jan 2018 21:46:06 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bevilacqua-not-giving-up-on-maiden-title/ KURRAWA ironman Matt Bevilacqua allowed himself only the luxury of a slight mental break over Christmas as he continues his quest for a maiden Nutri-Grain ironman title.

Bevilacqua heads into Sunday’s fourth round of the series at Fairhaven Beach on Victoria’s Surf Coast in great form after winning Round 3 at North Wollongong last month.

And while he rates Surfers Paradise’s ladder leader Ali Day as an overwhelming favourite for the title, Bevilacqua won’t rule himself out.

Bevilacqua sits in third place overall heading to Fairhaven, behind Day and Surfers Paradises clubmate TJ Hendy.

But with all athletes able to drop their worst result this season, Bevilacqua remains a strong chance if he can maintain consistency and drop his shock 16th placing at the season-opener.

“Ali and TJ, the guys ahead of me, don’t have a drop round yet,” Bevilacqua said of the consistent pair.

“I like to think I wouldn’t go worse than a 16th, touch wood, but you never know, so we’ll see what happens.

“(Being able to drop a round) is a great part of the series, I think, this year. In anything surf sports related they do have to have a drop round.

“No matter how well we perform, the surf can deal you some really bad cards.”

Competitors are likely to have to deal with the surf again Sunday, with a solid 1m swell predicted for the Surf Coast, a factor that could prove decisive in the endurance event.

“I love the enduro rounds, especially in a bit of surf,” Bevilacqua said.

“It will suit Ali (Day) and Shannon (Eckstein) and the experienced guys if we get some surf down there over 30 minutes.

“It’s a really technical, calculated race in those conditions, it’s really tricky, so I’ll enjoy that.”

Another win would put Bevilacqua right in contention for the title and he won’t rule himself out, although he knows there are plenty of big names desperate to take maximum points.

Defending series champion — and Bevilacqua’s Kurrawa clubmate — Matt Poole and nine-time series champion Shannon Eckstein need to fire to get their series bids back on track and Bevilacqua knows they can’t be counted out.

“There’s a lot of the top guys still in that top 10 that have raced really consistently and haven’t had a dropped round, so there’s still a lot of guys in genuine contention,” he said.

“Ali’s in a very strong position but we’ve seen in the first three rounds, you can easily have a bad round.

“You can be leading, and the depth of field now, you can easily drop back to 16th.

“The series is halfway through but … we’ve still got another round to go, I think, before we can really see who the genuine contenders are, I think it’s still really up in the air at this point.”

'World's largest' amphibious aircraft makes maiden flight in South China (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/worlds-largest-amphibious-aircraft-makes-maiden-flight-in-south-china-video/ https://briefnews.eu/worlds-largest-amphibious-aircraft-makes-maiden-flight-in-south-china-video/#respond Sun, 24 Dec 2017 08:10:32 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/worlds-largest-amphibious-aircraft-makes-maiden-flight-in-south-china-video/

A four-engine amphibious aircraft, said to be the world’s largest and roughly the size of a Boeing 737, took its maiden flight in the coastal Chinese city of Zhuhai.

The AG600, piloted by four crew members, took off from an airport in the city of Zhuhai, Guangdong province, and remained in the air for about one hour before landing at the same airfield.

CGTN showed live footage of the AG600 lifting off from Zhuhai, located on the South China Sea coast. State media also claim that the AG600, which is roughly the size of a Boeing 737, is now the world’s largest amphibious aircraft, surpassing Japan’s ShinMaywa US-2 and the Russian-made Beriev Be-200.

Powered by four turboprop engines, the AG600 can airlift up to 50 people, and is capable of scooping up 12 tons of water in 20 seconds during firefighting missions, according to state media. The aircraft, which can cover a distance of more than 4,500 kilometers (2,800 miles), is able to take off and land on both ground and water.

Government-run Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) has been developing the aircraft for almost eight years. The manufacturer says the flying boat “will be of great importance to the country’s emergency rescue system and the building of strong sea power,” China Daily reports.

The AG600, due to its amphibious capability, may potentially be deployed to the South China Sea, where Beijing has territorial spats with neighboring Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Brunei, Reuters reports, citing state media.

Huang Lingcai, the AG600’s chief designer, told China Daily earlier this month that the flying boat can make round trips without refueling from the southern island province of Hainan to James Shoal, which is located close to Sarawak in Malaysian Borneo, but also claimed by China.

AVIC began development of the AG600 back in 2009. Construction of its first prototype began in March 2014 and was completed in July 2016. In April, the flying boat successfully performed its first taxiing test, and in early December, the government approved its maiden flight.

The corporation says it will carry on with test flights and will soon launch certification procedures for the AG600.
