Maher was riding Jameka in her warm-up work on Friday morning when he was thrown off, breaking his femur at the ball connecting the hip socket.

He was operated on yesterday afternoon.

“Jameka is feeling incredibly well and fresh at the moment — I was just warming her up in a trot when she spooked and whipped around,” Maher said.

“Nobody has ever fallen off Jameka, so she had a quick trot around looking pleased with herself but not really knowing what to do.”

Maher returned to training in May after a six-month suspension for not knowing conman Peter Foster had owned horses in his stable, including Azkadellia.

Maher has had to shelve plans to ride in next month’s longest horse race, the 1000km Mongol Derby equestrian.

But he said the main thing was Jameka didn’t have any ­issues from the incident.

It is believed the champion mare will have a jumpout at Caulfield later this month before a program for the spring is locked in.

The winner of $ 4.87 million, Jameka has not raced since dominating last year’s BMW, and was recently sold back to her breeder at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Maher will watch three-year-old colt Jukebox resume in the Sir John Monash Stakes at Caulfield today from hospital.

Assistant trainer David Eustace said they hoped Jukebox would successfully kick off a campaign leading to Group 1 races or The Everest.

“He hasn’t put a foot wrong in his lead-up to this and Ciaron is very happy with his preparation,” he said.

Eustace said although the son of Snitzel had shown talent on the track, he still hadn’t fulfilled his potential.

“He’s always shown he’s a very fast horse — he’s got the potential to get up to a higher level,” he said.

“He’s first-up and he’s ready to go.”

Jukebox, who will be ridden by the in-form Craig Williams, has been backed from $ 4 into $ 2.80 favourite with the TAB.

Maher, who has been charged with conduct prejudicial to the image, interests or welfare of racing, apologised for his conduct to the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board.

The suspension starts from next Monday after Maher organises a replacement — who has to be approved by stewards.

The tribunal was told Maher did not act when he should have surrounding the ownership of top mare Azkadellia and four other horses.

Counsel for Racing Victoria stewardsdemanded a disqualification while Maher’s legal team has asked for a suspended suspension “allied to a fiscal penalty”.

The board said a suspended suspension was not appropriate.

A Caulfield Cup-winning trainer, Maher was not asked to give evidence at the tribunal.

Stewards alleged Maher’s former racing manager Ben Connelly was used as a foil for the notorious Foster, who stewards actually say owned Azkadellia, Hart, Loveable Rogue and Mr Simples.

Connelly allegedly bought Azkadellia and the other horses for a price much lower than expected.

Maher has been charged under rule 175A, relating to conduct prejudicial to the image, or interests, or welfare of racing.

The charges levelled against Maher included alleged “improper and/or dishonourable action”.

The stewards allege Maher took no steps to notify them of suspicions he may have had relating to the ownership of the horses.

Maher, whose stable boasts rising stars Jukebox, Merchant Navy and champion stayer Jameka, has about 100 horses in work.

The ownership of horses in his care has been under investigation after Connelly received Azkadellia for only $ 60,000 in August 2015 following a transfer of ownership.

Industry experts say the true value of the Group 1 mare was closer to $ 2 million.

At one point, it was claimed the mare was owned by Arabella Racing Pty Ltd, a company owned by Foster’s niece Arabella Foster.

Connelly resigned as Maher’s manager some months ago. He also faces serious charges.

Azkadellia has been banned from racing by stewards. The winner of $ 1.5 million in prizemoney hasn’t raced since running second in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara in Brisbane in June last year.

At the time of the charges being issued, Foster was on remand in a NSW prison awaiting trial on fraud charges relating to a failed online gambling business.

Bill Maher wasted no time tackling the elephant in the room on Friday’s Real Time.

On Friday’s Real Time, Maher kicked off the live broadcast by telling the enthusiastic studio audience, “Thank you for letting a sinner in your midst.” He then quickly segued to current events, specifically Thursday’s James Comey hearing. “There’s someone who had a worse week than me…” Maher said, referring to President Donald Trump.

Maher’s first guest on Friday’s show was Georgetown University professor and author Michael Eric Dyson, who stepped in for Al Franken after the senator cancelled his appearance in the wake of the N-word dustup. “I did a bad thing,” Maher conceded to Dyson. “For black folks, that word has caused pain. I’m not here to do that. That’s why I apologized freely, and why I reiterated it tonight.”

“You’re welcome; we’d love to have you work in the fields with us,” Sasse joked.

“Work in the fields,” Maher scoffed. “Senator, I’m a house nigger.”

“You still working in the fields out there, huh?” Maher said.

“Yeah,” Sasse said. “We want our kids to suffer.”

The comment was followed by laughter from the audience. Maher added, “It’s a joke,” while waving his hand as though his racist comment was no bigs. Rolling Stone shares that the comment was not edited out when the show was rebroadcast at midnight EST either.

Sasse, who sat there while Bill Maher said the N-word on television and said absolutely nothing, responded in tweets later, writing: “ I’m a 1st Amendment absolutist. Comedians get latitude to cross hard lines.” He also issued this apology: “But free speech comes with a responsibility to speak up when folks use that word. Me just cringing last night wasn’t good enough.”

Bill Maher has not responded so far.

Comic Bill Maher has never been one to filter what comes out of his mouth, having been in countless controversies for what he’s said on his HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher,” and his previous show “Politically Incorrect.“

The latest dust up came on his show Friday night when interviewing Republican Senator Ben Sasse.

Sasse was on the show promoting his new book, “The Vanishing American Adult: Our Coming-of-Age Crisis and How to Rebuild a Culture of Self-Reliance,” when he told Maher he should visit his state of Nebraska and “work in the fields.”

Maher responded by saying, “Senator, I’m a house n—-r.” Sasse gave a nervous laugh as the audience applauded.

Maher said what he said was just a joke.

But people watching weren’t laughing as many tweeted their disgust.

TRAINER Ciaron Maher will fight improper behaviour charges levelled at him regarding the ownership of five horses in his stable, including star mare Azkadellia.

And in another blow to a young trainer on Tuesday, the Ballarat’s Matt Cumani was suspended for two months and fined $ 20,000 by the Racing And Appeals Disciplinary Board for not alerting stewards to a case of strangles in his stable.

Maher, who has emerged from Warrnambool over the past decade to become a major force from his Caulfield base, made a brief statement on Tuesday protesting his innocence.

“I strongly refute the allegations and I look forward to presenting my position at the RAD Board,” Maher said.

Maher said he would not make any further comment.

Stewards allege that Maher’s former stable foreman Ben Connolly was a front for disgraced conman Peter Foster while owning five horses in the stables — Azkadellia, Hart, Loveable Rogue, Mr Simples and Little Bubulu — and that Maher was aware of this.

Stewards have been investigating the matter since August last year, and have also charged Connolly with two charges of improper and dishonourable action.

Maher faces those charges and two charges of conduct prejudicial to the image, interests and welfare of racing.

Cumani pleaded guilty to two charges relating to not telling stewards that there was a case of strangles, a highly infectious equine disease, in his stables between October 27 and November 23 last year.

His stables were quarantined and subsequently shut down by stewards for a month after they became aware of the problem on November 24.

The RAD Board suspended Cumani until midnight on Monday July 31 and fined him $ 20,000.

The ban of Cuamani, who wasn’t available for comment, will start next week.

Meanwhile, Racing NSW stewards suspended jockey Bobby El-Issa for four months for not giving his mount Soul Testa at Goulburn on March 17 every opportunity to win the race.

El-Issa said he would appeal.

Liberal talk-show host Bill Maher laid into Democrats and cable news pundits for their praise of President Trump’s military strike on Syria’s Shayrat airfield in response to a chemical weapons attack that killed 80 people on Tuesday. 

The Republicans’ positive response to the strike was expected, Maher said. “They got their two favorite things: [Neil Gorsuch] on the Supreme Court and Trump finally blowing some s— up.” 

But Maher was angered by the reaction Trump’s strike elicited from cable news pundits and journalists. “Even the liberals were all over this last night,” he said Friday night. “Everybody loves this f—— thing. Cable news loves it when they show footage of destroyers firing cruise missiles at night. It’s America’s money shot.”

And cable news did love it. Trump was widely lauded by television media and political commentators in the aftermath of the military strike. 

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria said Friday morning that Trump “became President of the United States” when he authorized the missile launch Thursday night. 

David Ignatius, a columnist for the Washington Post, said on MSNBC Friday morning that, “In terms of the credibility of American power, I think most traditional Washington commentators would say he’s put more umph, more credibility back into it.” 

MSNBC’s Brian Williams said he was “guided by the beauty of our weapons, and they are beautiful pictures of fearsome armaments making what is, for them, a brief flight over to this [Syrian] airfield…” 

Multiple news networks replayed footage of the cruise missiles being launched while commentary continued in the background. 

But some took on a more measured tone, urging people to refrain from cheering on military action that could result in injury and death. 

Veteran journalist Dan Rather said in a Facebook post after the strike, “There is a tendency to rally around the flag, and a President who takes on a war footing can see a boost of support.” 

He continued: “The number of members of the press who have lauded the actions last night as ‘presidential’ is concerning. War must never be considered a public relations operation. It is not a way for an Administration to gain a narrative. It is a step into a dangerous unknown and its full impact is impossible to predict, especially in the immediate wake of the first strike.” 

Trump’s strike on the Shayrat airfield disabled the base for a few hours, before Syrian warplanes again started taking off from the field.

“Twenty years from now when your kids ask you… ‘What did you do over the Trump years, Daddy?,’ you don’t want your answer to be, ‘My job was to go on TV and pretend Trump didn’t say what everybody just heard him say,’” Maher argued. “That is an enabler, and that word is not a compliment.”

Maher then went on to discuss many of Hollywood’s notorious enablers, pointing out that “Elvis had his Memphis mafia [and] Michael Jackson had a doctor who never said, ‘Gee, Mike, your nose just fell off again. Maybe cut back on the plastic surgery.’” He even went so far as to bring up disgraced comedian Bill Cosby, who Maher said “could not have pulled off 40 years of — oh, let’s call it ‘extreme dating’ — without various underlings who funneled women his way and paid them off.”

Later, Maher made an analogy using the classic film Sunset Boulevard, attempting to make a connection between “aging, unstable drama queen” Norma Desmond and Trump. He then compared Norma’s “sycophantic man servant” Max, who always kept “the real world far out of sight,” to the likes of U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes, who he claims is “pretending to have intelligence that backs up what his mad boss tweeted at three in the morning,” and POTUS’ various handlers who “keep sending him to rallies where he only has to see the people who tell him he’s doing great just like it says on his hat.”

He then played a series of clips from the 2016 campaign trail, including one where Trump promised voters that “you’re going to end up with great health care for a fraction of the price and that is going to take place immediately.” Yeah, about that…

“He promised, and I quote, ‘We’re going to have insurance for everybody… much less expensive and much better,’ but when we saw the [AHCA] bill, it was a giant tax cut for the rich paid for by kicking 24 million people off of their health insurance,” Maher said. “What a truly novel approach to making health care less expensive: Saving money by not giving people healthcare. Maher then pointed out Trump’s promise to get high drug costs “so far lower than they are now [that] your head will spin,” and teased the president for his alleged “dealmaking superpowers” that have instead been used to make deals with pharmaceutical execs to cut regulations.

“He promised the Keystone Pipeline would be built with American steel — it won’t. He promised to be the savior for coalminers, but here was the headline last month,” Maher said, before pointing out that POTUS’ newly proposed budget will have a damaging effect on West Virginia’s economy, where the coal mining industry once thrived. “I would say Trump is a used car salesman, but with a used car salesman at least you get a car. With Trump you don’t get any car, but you definitely get taken for a ride.”
