How do you recapture the magic of a classic movie like Mary Poppins? By casting a lead actress who is practically perfect in every way. Emily Blunt gets the spotlight in the latest Mary Poppins Returns  featurette released by Disney, which delves into how the story continues for the magical nanny and the Banks children.

Mary Poppins Returns Featurette

No one can replace the unmatchable Julie Andrews, but Blunt is a worthy successor. Taking on the role of the magical nanny that Andrews won an Oscar for playing in 1964, Blunt infuses the role with comic timing and a spoonful of sugar. And Blunt is not the only one paying respectful homage to the original, the entire production is a recreation of the scope and the wonder that first enchanted us all those years ago.

“This film is not a remake of Mary Poppins, which I think is an impossible thing,” says Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays the lamplighter Jack.

Miranda and Blunt are joined in the featurette by director Rob Marshall and Meryl Streep (Topsy, Mary’s quirky cousin), the latter of whom isn’t afraid to gush about her former Devil Wears Prada co-star. “It is a part she’s born to play,” Streep says. “She’s just practically perfect in every way.”

Mary Poppins Returns also stars Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, and Colin Firth.

Here is the official synopsis for Mary Poppins Returns:

In Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.

Mary Poppins Returns opens in theaters on December 19, 2018.

We’re just one month away from the release of director James Wan’s Aquaman, the first full-length feature film centered around Jason Momoa’s Justice League superhero. Now the final trailer has dropped, with all the magical tridents, warrior princesses, and epic CGI battles you’d expect from a superhero movie about averting a mythological war between two very different worlds.

Aquaman first entered the DC Comics universe in a 1941 anthology and later turned into a solo comic book series. He was a founding member of the Justice League during the “Silver Age” of the 1950s and 1960s. But he was never among the most compelling superheroes in the DC stable, often serving as the butt of jokes because of his supposedly inferior super powers. Hey, telepathically communicating with fish is cool, right?

So there was some initial skepticism about introducing the character into DC’s rebooted cinematic universe. Casting Momoa, who was so riveting as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones‘ first season, was an inspired choice, and the initial artwork showing an Aquaman reimagined for the 21st century looked promising. For the reboot, DCEU wisely played down the talking-to-fish thing (it’s more a form of telepathic compulsion) and focued instead on Aquaman’s superhuman strength, ability to breathe underwater, super fast swimming, and so forth.

What's Magical, Mystical and Vaginal All Over? https://briefnews.eu/whats-magical-mystical-and-vaginal-all-over/ https://briefnews.eu/whats-magical-mystical-and-vaginal-all-over/#respond Mon, 15 Oct 2018 05:40:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/whats-magical-mystical-and-vaginal-all-over/

Ho, No, You Don’t

EUGENE, SIR: So let me get this straight: You’re advising people to go to prostitutes? What else are you advising? Drug use? Armed robbery? I think honestly this can be called advice only if it really helps someone. I can’t see your “advice” helping anyone unless it helps them get STDs. I mean, was it too much to tell that poor guy to see a counselor? Until then, maybe try doing no harm. What a novel concept. —Tom T.

Dear Mr. Thumb: That would, I suspect, look something like this:

“I think I want to go to a prostitute.”

“Go to a counselor.”

“So a counselor will help me with post-break-up desires for sexual release?”

“No. Thanks for writing!”

This is just another way of saying if you ask me for advice about apples, I will give you advice on apples. Imagine how easy this job would be if you asked for advice on apples and I could give you advice on Etruscan poetry.

Moreover, your take equating sex with drug use, disease and armed robbery is probably not cool at all, and not especially helpful. Some sex workers do the work because they want to. Some because they believe they have to. Sort of like real jobs. And all of them endeavor to end up better in some way than when they started. Marginalizing them because their behavior doesn’t accord with your moral code could actually result in real downstream harm for both the men and the women who do this as a job.

So you don’t like it, and you’re fully within your rights to not like it, but dude wasn’t asking for a counselor; he was asking about a way to build post-break-up self-esteem, and the way he was leaning might have been the way he was best suited to go.

But thanks for writing!

Anal Experience Experts

EUGENE, SIR: I’ve had and enjoyed anal sex. Which I told my fiancé. This led to us trying it and me concluding that we should never try it again. He was terrible, got nervous, lost his erection; I wouldn’t blow him to help because he didn’t want to wash, and then after he got it back, he rushed too fast so it hurt, and we just stopped. He’s been hinting around trying it again, but I don’t think we need to “experiment” with him getting better. Besides, our love life was fine without this. He, however, has gotten pushy about it and then said something that set me off about how he’d like to do it before we got married, like a condition, and then he said it bothered him that “all of these other guys” had me that way and he hadn’t. I’m sort of sickened. What do I do? —Name withheld by request

Dear Asset Management: Any kind of “negotiating” around sexual activity will always come across as creepy since it attempts to codify what’s fundamentally “play” and, in this instance, play that’s part of a preexisting relationship of some depth. Presumably, it would have been easy enough to just talk about it. But I guess not, and instead of talking he took the 100-foot cliff dive into total stupidity when he tried to either make it some sort of misdemeanor not to or something that was going to make him “one of the guys.”

I’m sorry for all of this. In the first and most important case, maybe you all can start actually talking to each other. You’re not opposed to it; you just want him to relax, take it easy and remember it’s supposed to be fun. Outside of that, unless you all are putting something up his butt, maybe he could lighten up on the entitlement stuff. And of course, never, ever, ever mention anything about the mysterious monolith of “the guys.” If he can do those things, admit he has no idea what he’s doing and let you, the owner of the anus in question, lead the way, then you all might be on the road to a certain kind of wellness. Good luck!

Magical Vaginal

EUGENE, SIR: I was having sex with this fine fella I found online, and when I started to orgasm I could feel something like my cervix was re-seating itself. Like it was moving up and back up into me. Don’t know if this was connected to the orgasm, but it was an orgasm like I’d never had before. The guy was not super large and so I don’t know what caused it or why it happened, but I trembled for 20 minutes after. Any idea what was happening? I need an answer before I start to attach some special significance to the owner of said penis. So, yeah, any help is welcome! —Caroline

Dear Sweet Caroline: It sounds like what those who study such things call a “cervical orgasm.” Most likely happening as a result of the penis brushing up against the cervix — so much for your lover not being “super large.” He was, in all likelihood, large enough to brush the cervix, which sort of does move. When you’re not aroused? Your vagina is probably anywhere from about 3 to 4 inches deep. When aroused? Your vaginal canal lengthens. Behind it, you find your cervix, which stretches from where your vagina ends to the base of your uterus.

So even if most women need to have the clitoris stimulated to achieve orgasm, this cervical stimulation leads to an orgasm very close to what you describe. I can’t advise whether or not the guy should be kept, but this is just math: Take the total number of sex partners you’ve had, factor in how often this has happened before, assess a personal data set for this man and his penis and plan accordingly!

Magical Majorca: Take in Palma and the Island’s rugged northern coast on a sunshine break https://briefnews.eu/magical-majorca-take-in-palma-and-the-islands-rugged-northern-coast-on-a-sunshine-break/ https://briefnews.eu/magical-majorca-take-in-palma-and-the-islands-rugged-northern-coast-on-a-sunshine-break/#respond Mon, 10 Sep 2018 00:42:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/magical-majorca-take-in-palma-and-the-islands-rugged-northern-coast-on-a-sunshine-break/

I was in Majorca with my family, staying at the Iberostar Alcudia Park on the seafront at Playa de Muro beach, a 40-minute drive from Palma Airport.

And if you can tear yourself away from the fun fit for millionaires in the hotel, it’s an ideal starting point from which to explore all the island has to offer.

The northern coast, where we stayed, has great natural beauty and 31 fine, white-sand beaches.

On the hotel’s doorstep, just half a mile up the road, is the s’Albufera Natural Park, the largest and most important wetland area in the Balearic Islands and a birdwatchers’ paradise.

It’s an amazing place to wander and take in the sounds of nature if you tire of the beach and pool for a day.

With 95 species of birds, the park is free to enter but they do ask that you get a permit at reception on arrival.

Entering along the English Bridge, built by British engineer John Frederick Bateman in 1866, there are four trails to choose from that each take about 40 minutes to walk.

Do take your own food and water, though, as it’s very much a back-to-basics ethos with no refreshment facilities or shops.

If man-made beauty is more your thing, Palma is the place to head. It’s worth checking out the cathedral and, my personal favourite, the Palace of La Almudaina just across the road.

The royal palace was converted from a Muslim alcazar by King James II of Majorca in the 13th Century and is packed with artwork and artefacts spanning hundreds of years.

A stroll through the palm tree-flanked courtyards can fool you into thinking you are royalty yourself as you wander into the lush gardens towards what were once the royal docks.

But don’t get too cocky – the real royals use the palace from time to time and you’ll soon be brought down to earth, given their living quarters are off limits to the likes of you and me.

Majorca is a paradise for foodies, with fish dishes a specialty across the island, and Palma is currently experiencing a gastronomical boom with fashionable restaurants popping up all over.

La Rosa Chica specialises in tapas and recommends plenty of vermouth to go with it, but away from the traditional paella, fish and tapas, American gourmet hamburger joints are very fashionable.

Raimundo Burger is the biggest name but if you don’t fancy American fare why not try a taste of Scandinavia?

Wilsons restaurant serves up Nordic cuisine and you can grab a table outside in the sunshine.

If trendy restaurants aren’t your thing, you could always base yourself back at the hotel where the all-inclusive plan gives you access to fine food and drink around the clock.

Fish night was our favourite, with piles of mussels, lobster and langoustines, all caught that day, on offer at the buffet.

Alcudia Bay is a holiday resort in itself and many visitors never leave the compound during their stay, as their every whim is attended to by the amazing staff.

My family isn’t the most energetic while away but this year, thanks to the infectious, fun atmosphere at the hotel, things were different.

This was in large part because of the ambience generated by the ever-smiling and always hard-working Star Camp entertainment team, which seemed to run the place.

Newly relaunched by Iberostar across their hotels, Star Camp also provides 140 activities, as wide-ranging as cookery and film-making, for children aged between four and 17.

And unlike at some hotels, they don’t badger you to take part every five minutes while you are trying to finish your Dan Brown novel or enjoying a cocktail by the pool.

As our week in the sun drew to a close I was, however, offered the opportunity to wear the life-sized banana suit costume of kids’ disco night favourite, Starky – but I tactfully declined.

After all, it’s fine to have fun on your holiday… but never a good idea to go bananas.

Village markets

1 Take a boat trip on the waters between Majorca and Menorca then dive down to check out the wrecks of scores of ships that have fallen victim to the seas.

2 If birdwatching is your thing, the north of the island is currently a hotspot for species including Cory’s shearwater as well as the Balearic shearwater.

3 Market day in any Majorcan village has a real buzz. Street sellers from across the island set up stalls to offer everything from fruit and vegetables to designer leather goods.

4 Buy a bottle (or two) of the local wine. Wineries currently making a name for themselves are Vinyes Mortitx, Son Ramón and Ca’n Vidalet.

5 Or if you’re a beer drinker, try the island’s own offerings. It is currently enjoying a craft beer boom thanks to brands such as Forastera and Toutatis.

6 Visit the Palace of La Almudaina. Formerly an Islamic fort in Palma, it was converted into a residence for Majorcan monarchs at the end of the 13th Century.

7 Explore La Casa de Robert Graves, the home of the British poet and novelist who moved to Deia in 1929. On show are original period furnishings and objects that belonged to the writer.

8 The art scene is exploding on the island, especially in Palma, and a must-visit is Es Baluard, the most important modern art museum in the Balearics.

9 Take a hike around one of the seven specially designed, picturesque walking routes that were the idea of ecology activist Guillem Ferrer.

10 Get to grips with kitesurfing. The Bay of Alcudia has a thermal wind that is perfect for this addictive sport.

Way to go

A double room at Iberostar Alcudia Park, on a room-only basis, costs from €256.70 (£228.80) and on an all-inclusive basis from €358.70 (£319.71).

‘Magical Warrior Diamond Heart’ Has Young Women Facing Evil & Stealing Kisses https://briefnews.eu/magical-warrior-diamond-heart-has-young-women-facing-evil-stealing-kisses/ https://briefnews.eu/magical-warrior-diamond-heart-has-young-women-facing-evil-stealing-kisses/#respond Fri, 27 Jul 2018 03:52:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/magical-warrior-diamond-heart-has-young-women-facing-evil-stealing-kisses/ screenshot0023.png

Sailor Moon fans may find themselves hopelessly smitten with the diverse cast of magical girl otome/yuri visual novel Magical Warrior Diamond Heart, a game about a young lady gaining the power to overcome evil with some close (potentially VERY close) friends.

Valerie Amaranth is living a regular seventeen-year-old’s life when she comes into contact with the power of the Legendary Crystal Warrior, Diamond Heart, finding herself dragged out of her daily problems to save Crystal Kingdoms and Princesses. Legendary powers are helpful for this sort of problem, but it’s still not enough to handle things alone, which is why Valerie must find a crew of varied allies in order to help her tackle the Nightmare threat and save everyone.

Magical Warrior Diamond Heart isn’t all about saving kingdoms, though, as you’ll get to spend a lot of time getting closer to the other magical warriors who join you to help out. Male, female, and nonbinary relationships can be formed with each of these characters, or players can just become close friends with their crew, depending on what they feel comfortable with. If you feel you have time to play matchmaker while dealing with the Nightmare Agency, you can, as friendship and love are, deep down, the keys to overcoming the evil that’s overtaken the crystal kingdom.

A demo for Magical Warrior Diamond Heart is available on Itch.io. For more information on the game and developer Pyonkotchi, you can head to the game’s site, the developer’s site, or follow them on Tumblr, YouTube, and Twitter. Development funds are also being raised on Kickstarter.

  • Trump is visiting his golf course in Scotland.
  • He’s meeting with Russian president Vladamir Putin in Helsinki on Monday.
  • A U.S. federal grand jury has charged 12 Russian intelligence officers with stealing data from the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

TURNBERRY/GLASGOW, Scotland (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump was holed up at his golf course on the western coast of Scotland on Saturday ahead of a summit with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin that could be overshadowed by accusations Russians meddled in the U.S. 2016 election.

In an uproarious trip to Europe, Trump harangued members of the NATO military alliance, scolded Germany for its dependence on Russian energy, and shocked Britain by publicly criticizing Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit strategy.
