Did you think Tesla could move past braking complaints just because it addressed the issue with the Model 3? Luxembourg certainly doesn’t. The European country’s testing and standards body ILNAS has put itself at odds with Tesla after conducting an unusually public emergency braking test (media outlets like Luremberg Wort got to watch) that compared a 2015-era Model S to a new Volvo S90.The Model S failed the test in spectacular fashion, according to observers, crashing into a dummy car (above) at just under 19MPH where the S90 could avoid it at 37MPH. It didn’t look good for Tesla, but the company unsurprisingly took issue with the results.

In a statement to Electrek, a spokesperson said that ILANS “refused” to provide details of the test, including the methodology. The firm didn’t even find out about the test until it appeared in the press. The automaker also found out that the Model S in question is registered as a rental car in Germany. The spokesperson promised that Tesla would “continue to investigate” the nature of the test to ensure it was conducted properly.

The test raises a number of questions. Why pit a three-year-old rental car against a brand new rival? Why run the test in front of the media? Even so, the results raise concerns about whether or not Tesla’s older braking system (particularly automatic emergency braking) is up to par. Even if Model S cars made in late 2016 or later don’t have this issue, the company will want to be sure that its older EVs remain roadworthy.

Brigitte, 64, is often seen in shift dresses like this one, and today wore the silhouette in a rose pink colour.

The dress featured a small collar and short sleeves that stopped just above the elbows.

She paired this with a pair of American tan tights to cover her legs.

The French first lady completed the look with a pair of beige court shoes.

Unlike during previous trips out, Brigitte was not carrying a jacket, although she was clutching a small nude leather Louis Vuitton handbag.

But the most striking part of Brigitte’s look today was not her outfit, but her freshly cut and dyed hair.

Chopped into a flirty bob style, her locks shone, showing off new highlights.

Brigitte beamed as she posed for photographs at Luxembourg Palace, where she has spent one day with her husband Emmanuel Macron meeting officials and dignitaries.

Last week, the French Presidential couple spent time on the Black Sea coast meeting the Bulgarian Prime Minister and his wife.

Brigitte stepped out in a sleeveless navy mini dress for the visit to Euxinograd Palace with Emmanuel.

The dress came several inches above the French first lady’s knee, showing off plenty of leg.

But other than the risqué hemline, Brigitte’s choice was quite conservative, and hung loosely about her body.

But Brigitte doesn’t always choose dark colours and loose fitting clothes, as she proved in a very sexy red dress in Austria last week.

The former school teacher stepped off the plane wearing a red short sleeve dress which fell above the knee in length. 

It featured a zip up front and a zip on the right breast, as well as a biker-jacket-like fastening on the collar. 

Brigitte accessorised with a small black satchel and black pointed stiletto heels.

The White House is under fire for omitting the name of the Prime Minister of Luxembourg’s husband while captioning a picture of every other leader’s spouse at the G7 Summit.

The official White House photo, posted onto its Facebook page Saturday, included the Queen of Belgium along with the other halves of leaders from the US, France, Turkey, Iceland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Norway and Luxembourg.

However, the photo’s original caption left out Gauthier Destenay, the husband of Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.

Despite a quick rebuke from Facebook users, the White House did not update the caption to include Gauthier’s name until 10 hours after the image was posted.

Not letting the administration off lightly, many have taken to social media to criticize the omission, saying either incompetence or downright “homophobia” was behind the snub.

Other critics were similarly scathing:

Bettell, who married the Belgian architect in 2015, is currently the world’s only openly gay leader after Iceland’s Johanna Sigurðardóttir and Belgium’s Elio Di Rupo finished their terms in 2013 and 2015 respectively.

The current Polish state would not have been accepted into the EU, as it fails to meet the bloc’s key criteria, such as being a democratic and a lawful state, Luxembourg’s foreign minister said, accusing Poland’s authorities of restricting the rule of law.

“Today’s Poland under Jaroslaw Kaczynski could no longer become a EU member,” Jean Asselborn told German Tagesspiegel daily, blaming Poland’s president for pushing his country away from core European values and gearing towards a national state.

“He believes that the EU is a brake pad for Poland. He wants to create a right-wing conservative social order based upon the concept of a national state,” the politician said, describing the leader of the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) party as an “ideologist.”

In the pursuit of this strategy, the “government in Poland is getting more and more involved in restricting in the rule of law,” Luxemburg’s foreign minister argued, adding that it may have been encouraged by Hungary.

Back in December, some members of the European Parliament suggested that Poland could be stripped of its EU voting rights in response to its government encroaching on the independence of the country’s judiciary and freedom of assembly. However, Asselborn believes this proposal is unfeasible, as it would likely be vetoed by Hungary.

The PiS government under Kaczynski has been drawing heavy criticism from Brussels for its controversial overhaul of Poland’s constitutional court, which led to a standoff resulting in the court losing much of its power due to modified decision-making processes.

However, Poland’s president has brushed off this condemnation as unwarranted meddling in his country’s internal affairs.

“It amuses me, as this criticism has nothing to do with the current state of our country,” Kaczynski said in July of last year, in commenting on the possibility of the EU imposing restrictions on Poland.

Poland’s desire to distance itself from the EU will not ultimately bring it any benefits, Asselborn believes, as the country risks losing the financial support of the bloc.

“Poland sets itself on the slow track in the EU. One must not forget: currently, the country’s benefits from the EU subsidies amounts to four percent of its GDP,” he noted.

Asselborn is known for courting controversy by making sharp statements. Last year, he proposed kicking Hungary out of the bloc for treating refugees “nearly as bad as animals.”

“Anyone who, like Hungary, builds fences against refugees from war or who violates press freedom and judicial independence should be excluded temporarily or, if necessary, forever from the EU,” he said in September.
