As the SAG Award winners were announced, however, the only award of the evening for Ozark went Bateman’s way for his portrayal of Marty Byrde.

However, it didn’t stop thousands of fan across the globe from showing their support for the series as it narrowly missed out on a handful of other prizes.

And following the news, Jonah Byrde star Gaertner took to social media to share a lengthy statement thanking fans ahead of the fourth and final season of Ozark.

Donning his SAG Awards suit, Gaertner penned to his 26.4k Instagram followers: “I just want to say that being an actor during our crazy times is a huge honour.”

Hugh Bonneville distracts BBC viewers with incredible weight loss during VJ Day 75 https://briefnews.eu/hugh-bonneville-distracts-bbc-viewers-with-incredible-weight-loss-during-vj-day-75/ https://briefnews.eu/hugh-bonneville-distracts-bbc-viewers-with-incredible-weight-loss-during-vj-day-75/#respond Sun, 16 Aug 2020 07:37:33 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/hugh-bonneville-distracts-bbc-viewers-with-incredible-weight-loss-during-vj-day-75/

On Saturday, the BBC aired a handful of special programmes to mark 75 years since VJ Day and the end of World War Two. In one special instalment, titled The Nation’s Tribute, Joanna Lumley welcomed a number of famous faces, including Sheridan Smith and Nicola Roberts, to the show as they paid tributes and remembered all of those involved. However, it was actor Hugh Bonneville who had viewers talking.

Donned in a black suit, white shirt and green tie, Hugh took to the balcony to recite King George VI’s speech from the time.

Hugh said: “On the evening of VJ Day, 1945, King George VI addressed the nation.

“‘Three months have passed since I asked you to join with in an act of thanksgiving for the defeat of Germany.

“‘We then rejoiced that peace had returned to Europe but we knew a strong and relentless enemy still remained to be conquered in Asia.'”

The actor continued: “‘Japan has surrendered so let us join in thanking almighty God that war has ended throughout the world.

“‘I ask you again to remember all who have laid down their lives and all who have endured the loss of the ones they love,

“‘Remember too the suffering of those who fell into the hands of the enemy, whether as prisoners of war or because their homes have become overrun,

“‘The campaigns in the far-East will be famous in history for many reasons. There is one feature of them which is a special source of pride to me.'”

He added: “‘And also to you, the citizens of our British Commonwealth and Empire to whom I speak,

“‘In those campaigns, there have fought, side by side with our allies, representatives of almost every unit within our great community,

“‘Men from the old countries, men from the dominia, from Inida and the colonies, they fought in brotherhood.

“Through their courage and endurance, they conquered. All of them, and the women who shared with them the hardships and dangers of war, I send my proud and grateful thanks.'”

Mark Labbett opens up on real reason behind 4 stone weight loss: ‘People going to hate me’ https://briefnews.eu/mark-labbett-opens-up-on-real-reason-behind-4-stone-weight-loss-people-going-to-hate-me/ https://briefnews.eu/mark-labbett-opens-up-on-real-reason-behind-4-stone-weight-loss-people-going-to-hate-me/#respond Tue, 04 Aug 2020 15:39:09 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/mark-labbett-opens-up-on-real-reason-behind-4-stone-weight-loss-people-going-to-hate-me/

Mark, 54, who is best known for his role on The Chase, spoke about his health in a conversation with the Loose Women panel on Tuesday afternoon. The Beast star is currently residing at home with his wife and young son as production on the ITV quiz show was ground to a halt in light of the coronavirus pandemic. During the nationwide lockdown, the quizmaster has continued to lose weight after coming down with what he thought to be “a typical virus” back in February. With more information about COVID-19 having been discovered since then, the general knowledge guru now believes this to be the real reason behind the change in his appearance.

Speaking to the presenters about the symptoms he had at the time, Mark explained: “The major one was a complete loss of taste and smell and no appetite.

“And I had the cough and the fever and bouts of exhaustion but because I didn’t have problems breathing – and this was back in February where that was the number one symptom, I thought I’ve just got some type of virus.

“For two weeks, I barely ate so at the time I was thinking, ‘Result!’” the quizmaster went on to add.

Asked what else he might have done to help him shed the pounds, The Beast star said: “People are going to hate me because I haven’t tried to lose weight.

“What’s happened is I had the brush with this virus or whatever it was and since then, I haven’t been going out.”

“So, I haven’t been having restaurant meals and my wife is a shift worker full-time so I’ve been a primary carer for our son,” Mark continued.

“As many of our viewers will know, if you’re looking after an active toddler 14 hours a day, seven days a week, you haven’t got time to eat.”

Following his diagnosis of type two diabetes in 2016, Mark took part in ITV reality show Sugar-Free Farm.

On the programme, he explained he had turned down the opportunity to take part in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! due to the lack of food contestants eat.

In view of his 4,787 followers, he wrote: “Gradually losing the waistline 🙂 #skinnybeast #doubletwoshirts.”

Responding to the image, one fan commented: “Just seen this excellent work keep going, Guess there will be an exercise DVD soon.”

“Well done mark looking good. Keep it up. Losing weight is hard, but being overweight is even harder. I lost 9.5stone in 20 months. Keep going your doing great. Awesome,” a second posted. (sic)

A third remarked: “Well done, massive achievement, looking amazing,” with a fourth adding: “Hardest thing to do ever…well done you!”

In another interview published at the weekend, The Chaser also explained some of the other coronavirus-like symptoms he experienced.

“Apparently one of the symptoms they’re discovering now is rapid attacks. One morning I woke up at 1:30am shivering uncontrollably.

“I had to go downstairs to alter the central heating, and I couldn’t hold a pint of water in one hand because I was shaking so much.

“As a self-proclaimed fatty, of course, I was aware that having COVID wasn’t good, and clearly increased the severity of my risk,” he told The Sun.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.

Neighbours spoilers: Chloe Brennan set for heartbreaking loss amid pregnancy shock https://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-chloe-brennan-set-for-heartbreaking-loss-amid-pregnancy-shock/ https://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-chloe-brennan-set-for-heartbreaking-loss-amid-pregnancy-shock/#respond Sun, 26 Jul 2020 23:47:57 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-chloe-brennan-set-for-heartbreaking-loss-amid-pregnancy-shock/

Neighbours Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly) is set for an untimely shock next week when she finds out she’s pregnant with her first child. But with her deteriorating health condition, will she decide to keep the baby or suffer a heartbreaking loss?

Back in 2019, Chloe was given the devastating news that she has Huntington’s Disease, a hereditary condition which results in the death of brain cells and can cause depression, memory loss and difficulty walking.

Although shocked at the diagnosis and feeling helpless because there is no cure, she’s vowed to live life to the fullest.

Recently, her marriage to Pierce Greyson (Tim Robards) has been less than perfect, and she decides to hold off telling him the news that will change their lives forever.

While they were in discussions about fostering a child, their chances were slashed by Pierce’s son Hendrix (Benny Turland), who wasn’t happy at the thought of another kid joining their family.

While Chloe knows that her husband will be over the moon with the pregnancy news, this only adds to her difficult decision.

As Huntington’s Disease is genetic, she worries about passing the disorder onto their unborn baby.

What will she do?

If she tells Pierce about the baby, it would complicate things if she decides she can’t keep it.

But if she decides to have an abortion without keeping him in the loop, will she be able to live with herself?

Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) finds out and spills the big news to Pierce himself, leading to more tension in their marriage as he wonders why she withheld telling him such important news.

Actress April recently told Radio Times what goes through her character’s head when keeping the pregnancy a secret amid battling the disorder.

“For Chloe, she sees it as a death sentence and it’s been extremely difficult for her to come to terms with it and watch her mother deal with it.

“All of that kind of leads her to not immediately tell Pierce.”

“And that’s tough you know, that’s tough, he tried to sneak away, but we caught him.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom Mourns Loss of Songwriting Partner Adam Schlesinger: ‘He Is Irreplaceable’ https://briefnews.eu/crazy-ex-girlfriends-rachel-bloom-mourns-loss-of-songwriting-partner-adam-schlesinger-he-is-irreplaceable/ https://briefnews.eu/crazy-ex-girlfriends-rachel-bloom-mourns-loss-of-songwriting-partner-adam-schlesinger-he-is-irreplaceable/#respond Thu, 02 Apr 2020 13:48:34 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/crazy-ex-girlfriends-rachel-bloom-mourns-loss-of-songwriting-partner-adam-schlesinger-he-is-irreplaceable/

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom took to social media to honor her fellow Crazy Ex songwriter Adam Schlesinger, who passed away Wednesday of coronavirus complications.

Bloom offered her condolences with a brief but heartfelt Instagram post: “I have so much to say about Adam Schlesinger that I am at a complete loss for words. He is irreplaceable.”

Schlesinger, who co-founded the power pop group Fountains of Wayne and also composed music for movies like That Thing You Do!, was hospitalized earlier this month in upstate New York after contracting the coronavirus. He was placed on a ventilator and heavily sedated before ultimately passing away.

He served as executive music producer on The CW’s musical rom-com Crazy Ex-Girlfriend for all four seasons, and wrote many of the show’s original songs along with Bloom and Jack Dolgen. He earned five Emmy nominations for his work on the series, including a win last year for co-writing the Season 4 song “Anti-Depressants Are So Not a Big Deal” with Bloom and Dolgen.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna also memorialized Schlesinger with a lengthy post on Twitter: “Adam was so funny, so kind, so opinionated, so clever, so passionate. We worked together and agreed and disagreed and rejoiced and bemoaned and celebrated, and it felt extra sweet for me because I’d known him so long. I love that guy. I love all the memories.”

Bloom later retweeted Brosh McKenna’s tribute, adding, “He was a genius.” She also showed fans a behind-the-scenes look at Schlesinger and executive producer Jack Dolgen working on “I Go to the Zoo.”

ITV GMB: Caroline Flint SLAMS Ken Livingstone’s ‘denial’ over Labour’s catastrophic loss https://briefnews.eu/itv-gmb-caroline-flint-slams-ken-livingstones-denial-over-labours-catastrophic-loss/ https://briefnews.eu/itv-gmb-caroline-flint-slams-ken-livingstones-denial-over-labours-catastrophic-loss/#respond Mon, 16 Dec 2019 09:44:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/itv-gmb-caroline-flint-slams-ken-livingstones-denial-over-labours-catastrophic-loss/

Former Labour MP for Don Valley Caroline Flint hit out at Ken Livingstone’s “denial” over why voters chose not to support Labour last week. She said senior Labour members are blaming everyone else. Ms Flint, who lost her seat after 22 years, explained Labour will only win elections when they have a leader the public believe in.

Speaking on ITV, Ms Flint said: “The denial that people like Ken express about anti-Semitism, about the fact people didn’t buy into the Corbyn project, the politics is, to be honest, a classic response of those on the left-wing of our party when they want to try and put the blame on everybody else.

“Blame the media, blame the establishment, blame this, blame that, blame the other.

“The truth is that Labour wins elections when we’ve got a leader people believe in and a vision that people can buy into.

“We’ve done that successfully in the past and clearly we’re not going it now.”

Mr Livingstone disagreed as he previously said Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn had been working on getting anti-Semites out of the party.

Their clash comes as Ms Flint revealed how she personally feels after losing her seat.

Piers Morgan asked: “You looked quite emotional yesterday, you’re holding it together today but underneath you’re very wounded and sad about this.

“How do you feel personally about losing your job and seat in Parliament over something that was out of your control?”

Ms Flint’s latest intervention came after she was embroiled in a row with shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry over claims the Corbyn ally described voters in the north “stupid”.

Ms Thornberry, who is believed to be eyeing a bid to succeed Mr Corbyn, was forced to deny the “total and utter lie” on Sunday and was understood to be consulting lawyers.

Ms Flint, who lost her seat in the former stronghold of Don Valley during the catastrophic election for Labour, claimed Ms Thornberry had told a colleague: “I’m glad my constituents aren’t as stupid as yours.”

The row came as shadow chancellor John McDonnell tried to take the flak for the defeat, saying “I own this disaster”, and as Mr Corbyn also apologised for Labour’s worst result since 1935.

Outlander season 5: Jamie Fraser to suffer huge loss as major character’s death ‘sealed’? https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-5-jamie-fraser-to-suffer-huge-loss-as-major-characters-death-sealed/ https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-5-jamie-fraser-to-suffer-huge-loss-as-major-characters-death-sealed/#respond Fri, 08 Nov 2019 05:28:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-5-jamie-fraser-to-suffer-huge-loss-as-major-characters-death-sealed/

Outlander returns to television screens in early 2020 but it will see the Fraser family struggle as the Revolutionary War approaches and they are forced to make some tough decisions. In the season four finale, Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) was issued a letter demanding he catch Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix) for the North Carolina Governor – will he do as he’s told?

Jamie and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) were given land in season four from the Governor but under the understanding they have pledged their allegiance to him.

Now, Jamie has found himself in a difficult position as the Governor has demanded  he assemble and lead a militia to put down the regulators and kill their leader Murtagh.

Fans know the highlander would never turn against someone he loves and trusts as much as Murtagh.

But if he does not follow the Governor’s orders, he could find himself without his land and home.

It seems unlikely Jocasta’s head could be turned by another but if Murtagh was killed, she could find love with another.

Following Maria’s comment at New York Comic Con last month, fans believe she could marry Duncan Innes instead.

Maria teased: “Well, I definitely have relationships in season five, I can’t actually tell you who they’re with.”

But she heavily hinted it wouldn’t be Murtagh she weds.

Coronation Street spoilers: Emma Brooker stunned by Steve McDonald after tragic loss https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-emma-brooker-stunned-by-steve-mcdonald-after-tragic-loss/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-emma-brooker-stunned-by-steve-mcdonald-after-tragic-loss/#respond Sat, 31 Aug 2019 02:52:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-emma-brooker-stunned-by-steve-mcdonald-after-tragic-loss/

Emma Brooker’s (played by Alexandra Mardell) father passed away on Coronation Street a few weeks ago but she was left devastated when she learnt from her mum, he wasn’t her dad at all.

Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) suspected he could be her father after his relationship with Emma’s mother, former Corrie resident Fiona Middleton (Angela Griffin).

His suspicions were recently confirmed by Emma revealed she wanted nothing to do with her biological father.

She rejected Steve at her dad’s funeral but the taxi driver is set to stun his daughter with a big gesture that could change things.

When Emma learned the truth about Steve, she attacked him with the funeral flowers before storming off.

She shouted: “Why would you say that? Because you’re a horrible, selfish, hateful, selfish, mean, thoughtless, selfish, nasty little man. Leave me alone.”

Steve found her crying and tried to smooth things over but Emma refused to hear about the DNA to see if they were related.

“How did you manage to make something I didn’t think could be any worse so much worse?” she asked.

“I wish my mum had never met you. Go away, go away!”

However, as Emma continues to mourn her “dad”, Steve goes to extra lengths to help her out, which could repair their relationship.

He admits to Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) he feels protective of her when he watches James Bailey (Nathan Graham) flirt with her.

When Emma opens up about scattering her dad’s ashes at County’s ground, Steve gets a helping hand from James and his brother Michael (Ryan Russell) who all arrive at the ground to support her.

However, they are approached by the security guard who demands to know what they are up to.

Steve manages to win over the guard by pleading Emma’s case who allows them onto the pitch.

Raising a toast to Emma’s dad, she’s touched to discover that it was Steve’s idea to go to the football ground.

Emma’s decision to stay on the cobbles comes after Alexandra revealed she’d be sticking around as Steve’s daughter thanks to her renewed contract with the soap.

“I’ve just signed a new contract and I’m more than happy to stay for as long as they’ll have me,” she told the Daily Star.

“You’ve got people that have been in the show for decades, and I think you need to clock up at least five years before you feel any different,” she added.

Alexandra hopes to be part of the soap’s 60th anniversary next year but did not let on long her contract runs for.

Can this be the beginning of something new for Emma and Steve?

Coronation Street continues on Monday on ITV at 7.30pm.
