Property expert Scarlette Douglas was on hand to help home hunter Martin find his dream property near Valencia in the town of Campo de Turia, Spain. Accompanied by his brother and painter and decorator Arthur, Martin was looking to relocate permanently, despite having never visited the region before. Nevertheless, Scarlette managed to wow the prospective buyer with a number of options – including one that was so impressive, Martin decided to make an offer. However, it’s fair to say the A Place in the Sun guest’s negotiations method left plenty to be desired with some Channel 4 viewers.

Martin was keen to move near Valencia in Spain thanks to its warmer climate, stunning views and to continue his hobby as a keen fisherman.

As a result, Scarlette lined up a number of suitable properties that ticked Martin’s boxes, which included a pool and plenty of room for his four children to visit.

With brother Arthur in tow, he was on hand to share insight into what each property would need in terms of improvement and whether each home had potential.

And Scarlette had saved the best until last as Martin eventually placed an offer on a three-bedroom villa with its own field of orange trees and a pool – even though it needed a bit of work on the inside.

Arthur fell in love with property number five from the get-go as he quickly said on arrival: “Love the views, the views are stunning.”

Martin gave off a slightly more lukewarm response, however, as he began to pick apart faults with the dated look of the house’s interior.

However, the A Place in the Sun house-hunter was won over by the spacious land outside and gorgeous pool.

Taking the work it would need into account, Martin decided to make an offer, but well under the owner’s £135,000 asking price.

The owner was also stubborn in his approach, however, rejecting Martin for a second time before countering with an offer of around £130,000.

“That’s too much for me,” Martin commented as his frustrations became evident. “£128,000 is the limit for me and we’ll leave that there.”

With the dream home seemingly slipping away, Scarlette managed to win over the owner of the house and Martin landed the property for £128,000.

While it was all smiles on-screen, it’s safe to say Channel 4 viewers were annoyed at how Martin was willing to turn away from the stunning property over the £2,000 difference.

“For the sake of 2 grand?  #aplaceinthesun,” queried one puzzled viewer on Twitter after witnessing the negotiations.

“No brainer,” added a second. “Get your bro to do the work in exchange for a free holiday and you got yourself a palace #aplaceinthesun.”

“Raging! [angry emoji] #aplaceinthesun,” tweeted a third, while a fourth joked: “I’m phoning right now to offer £129,000. #aplaceinthesun.”

However, some fans were quick to congratulate Martin on his purchase, as one added to the debate: “Well done! [applause emoji] #Aplaceinthesun.”

Outlander season 6: Jamie Fraser loses power as old enemy arrives at Fraser’s Ridge https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-jamie-fraser-loses-power-as-old-enemy-arrives-at-frasers-ridge/ https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-jamie-fraser-loses-power-as-old-enemy-arrives-at-frasers-ridge/#respond Sun, 10 Jan 2021 00:26:05 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-jamie-fraser-loses-power-as-old-enemy-arrives-at-frasers-ridge/

Fans of the Outlander books which the Starz series is based on know that in A Breath of Snow and Ashes Tom Christie arrives on the Ridge with his daughter Malva.

Their arrival certainly ruffles feathers as Malva tries to poison both Claire and Tom when she tries to convince the settlers Jamie is the father of her unborn baby.

This ties in with a spoiler shared by actress Caitriona who said Claire’s medical knowledge will be tested.

In the novels, the time traveller will be concerned when many of the settlers are struck down with dysentery but her symptoms are different.

Grey’s Recap: Surge Times — Plus, [Spoiler] Loses Their COVID Battle https://briefnews.eu/greys-recap-surge-times-plus-spoiler-loses-their-covid-battle/ https://briefnews.eu/greys-recap-surge-times-plus-spoiler-loses-their-covid-battle/#respond Fri, 11 Dec 2020 03:32:46 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/greys-recap-surge-times-plus-spoiler-loses-their-covid-battle/ In Thursday’s fraught Grey’s Anatomy, things were looking up for Meredith but way down for Tom, who was ambulanced to Grey Sloan resembling nothing so much as the textbook definition of “worse for wear.” Having already lost Teddy and his chief-of-chiefs gig, was Koracick about to lose his very life? Read on and find out.

‘ARE YOU GOING TO WORK… AT THE REGULAR TIME… ?’ | As “Fight the Power” began, Teddy and DeLuca celebrated the fact that Meredith’s condition was improving, Levi discovered how hard hit by the pandemic Jo was (to the point that she was “paralyzed by excitement” in bed — ha), Bailey connected with Ben and her father over FaceTime, and Jackson asked for Richard’s help getting Catherine to properly wear her mask. (Proximity to one’s face doesn’t count as actually wearing it on one’s face, damn it!) Shortly, we learned that Luna’s mom Val required continued care, and — insert chest pains here — Tom was brought in, as advertised, in dire straits. He was so bad off, in fact, that he didn’t recognize Teddy or Owen, and seemed to think that his son was still alive.

Soon, Bailey’s mood took a sharp downturn when she learned that Silver Villas assisted-living home — where her parents were, hello! — was suffering from a COVID surge. She beseeched Ben to get her folks outta there asap, but it was already too late. By the time she got her husband’s voicemail messages, he’d arrived back at Grey Sloan with her symptomatic mother. While Maggie pondered what meds they could prescribe Bailey’s mom to calm her, Bailey herself soothed her by singing “My Girl.” Yikes, this episode was gonna be a heartbreaker, ya could just tell. In no time, Bailey was forced to call her father to inform him that the love of his life wouldn’t make it through the night. Again, yikes. Chest pains. All of it.

greys-anatomy-recap-season-17-episode-5-fight-the-power‘TREE-HITTING IS FROWNED UPON’ | Looking for a way to deal with her feelings, Bailey confided in an unconscious Meredith that her mom had once advised her to deal with her emotions by hitting a tree — her own tree. “My mother has Alzheimer’s,” Miranda went on. “I never told you” or Richard, because she hadn’t wanted to upset them. But unless you’ve been through it, “no one understands that you are watching your own mother die… twice.” Later, Bailey rang her father on Zoom so that he could see his wife. “She drifts in and out, Dad,” Bailey had to tell him. He wanted desperately to be there, but of course, that wasn’t safe. Through it all, Miranda tried to maintain a stiff upper lip. “Mom, if you’re ready to go, it’s OK,” she said. “We love you, but we don’t want you to suffer.” In response, her mom said, “Not ready… I wanna go home.”

Later, Bailey told Maggie that her mom had informed her that she wasn’t ready to go. Yet she also feared that her mom hadn’t really known what she was saying. And she was furious. She didn’t want her mother to be a statistic. “All of this is confusing… and awful,” Maggie offered. Bailey didn’t know what to think in the end. She’d been sure that Mom wouldn’t want to live with Alzheimer’s, but now… gah! She couldn’t be positive. Maggie’s opinion? Let her go. Maggie might have kept fighting to keep her own mom alive, had Diane not given her such clarity in the end. Sadly, Bailey felt that she had to beat herself up for bringing her parents to Seattle. Her mother “was exposed at the place I set up for them!” Maggie tried to insist that Bailey couldn’t feel guilty about it, but… easier said than done. “She just needs me to be a good daughter,” cried Miranda, “and I don’t know if I know how to do that.”

greys-anatomy-recap-season-17-episode-5-fight-the-power‘CAN YOU HOLD THE PHONE CLOSE ENOUGH TO SMELL HER HEAD?’ | When Jo reported to Val that she had a pseudo-aneurysm, the patient didn’t take it well. “I’ve known my baby’s name” for eight years, she said. “And now that I finally have the chance [to be a mom]… I don’t know if it will ever be real,” or if she’d only be able to see her child over FaceTime. Post-op, as Jo pondered the possibility of Val needing a liver transplant, new resident (or is he an intern?) Kahn, an MVP in his home country, marveled at the former Mrs. Karev’s excellence. Later, Jo was somehow recruited to deliver a baby. (And you thought your day was something!) That evening, Jo shared her experience with Levi. “It was the happiest thing I had ever seen,” she said, adding that hmm, Carina seemed to always be in a good mood. What if Jo changed careers? What if she gave up surgery and became an OB? “Eat and then sleep before you… ,” said Levi. “Oh my God, I sound like my mother.” Regardless, since tomorrow isn’t promised, Jo wanted to choose the joyful option.

greys-anatomy-recap-season-17-episode-5-fight-the-powerBACK FROM THE BRINK | Consulting with Teddy on Tom’s case via Zoom, Amelia decided that she had to go in to Grey Sloan; he was having neurological complications — he needed her. “We’ll be fine here,” Link said. “Go, save your friend.” Unnecessarily, Amelia mentioned that not only had Koracick saved her brain, he had been her first sex after Owen. Wait, what? Link said. TMI, Amelia. TMI. At Grey Sloan, Amelia suggested that Tom’s delirium was a side effect of COVID, not especially neuro. “I hate everything,” Jackson said when he was filled in on Koracick’s condition. In a moment alone with Teddy, Amelia admitted that she’d heard what had gone down with Tom and Owen, and though she had feelings about it, hey, she’d heard — and arguably done — worse. Later, Amelia told Teddy that Koracick’s numbers were holding. Though he was unconscious, Altman expressed to him her wish to save their friendship. “If you want to have nothing to do with me, you’re going to have to get all better and tell me yourself.” At that, he awakened. It appeared that he was gonna be fine — he was even in the mood for a sponge bath. After all those yikes-es, whew!

As the hour drew to a close, Jackson marveled to Richard that half of their COVID patients were Black or brown. “Systemic racism is the preexisting condition — existing while Black,” said Avery. He didn’t have to worry about Catherine, at least; Richard had taken care of that, Webber said — in some kind of sexual way. Shortly, he encouraged Bailey to go into her mother’s room and be there for her. “I’m scared,” she admitted. “We’ll do it together,” he replied. So in they went, so that Miranda could stroke her mom’s hair with a gloved hand and sing her one last song as she slipped away. So, what did you think of “Fight the Power”? How hard did you cry over Bailey’s mom’s death? Were you relieved Tom pulled through? Hit the comments with your observations, reactions, reviews — the works.

Outlander: Jamie Fraser star Sam addresses devastating death ‘He loses part of himself’ https://briefnews.eu/outlander-jamie-fraser-star-sam-addresses-devastating-death-he-loses-part-of-himself/ https://briefnews.eu/outlander-jamie-fraser-star-sam-addresses-devastating-death-he-loses-part-of-himself/#respond Sun, 21 Jun 2020 02:40:59 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/outlander-jamie-fraser-star-sam-addresses-devastating-death-he-loses-part-of-himself/

Throughout the five seasons of Outlander, Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) has had a turbulent time with a lot of heartbreak. He had to kill his uncle Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) in season two, lost his firstborn daughter Faith with wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe) after she was stillborn. The second season also saw him force Claire to return to the future as she carried their unborn baby Brianna (Sophie Skelton). But perhaps the most heartbreaking moment was watching him say goodbye to his godfather Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix) who died in his arms.

Speaking about the storyline, Sam explained the moment was difficult for Jamie as he lost his last connection to Scotland.

“You know, I think the Murtagh storyline, it’s not part of Diana Gabaldon’s books but I think for me and for Jamie it was one of the strongest storylines we’ve had for a while,” he remarked.

“This dichotomy he is in, he’s a man of honour, Murtagh is his blood and Jamie is losing a part of himself, a part of his connection to Scotland, his father figure, someone who has been there since the beginning.

“I know we have all loved not only Duncan Lacroix, who is just one of the greats of the cast of Outlander, but his character as well.

“I think it also brought the regulator story home to the viewer, you could put a face to the two sides and explore the dichotomy Jamie was in.”

But that wasn’t the only storyline Sam felt was tough for Jamie as he added: “Of course, at the end, the scene where Jamie just doing everything and going to battle for Claire was another great storyline.

“That’s the great thing about Outlander, we have huge emotional arcs, each season it seems to get more involved and complicated, it’s a gift for us from the writers and Diana.”

Sam’s comments came as part of a Q&A with Deadline and Caitriona also spoke of the season five finale.

“With this particular storyline, when Matt came to talk to us about it and start talking about disassociation, which is also something which you don’t often see when rape is being handled.

“So we talked a lot with RAINN [Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network] at how we could approach this and also just in terms of making sure we had trigger warnings at the start of the episode.

“You never want to do something like this and not give people the opportunity to kind of go into it with their eyes open and know what they are going to see.”

Caitriona added: “It’s really important to all of us when we approach any kind of subject matter like this that we do do it in the most responsible way possible.”

The actress noted she had to be careful to separate Claire’s life from her own life when it came to tackling tough storylines.

She explained: “I definitely think when you are dealing with really heavy subject matter you know, you do go to quite dark places within yourself.

“I think there’s always a certain amount of purging of it that you have to do.

“But I think the healthiest way to be able to do this job is to also be able to leave these things at the door when you leave during the day.”

Dan Walker loses it as Michael Gove defends Cummings: ’Why couldn’t he say sorry?’ https://briefnews.eu/dan-walker-loses-it-as-michael-gove-defends-cummings-why-couldnt-he-say-sorry/ https://briefnews.eu/dan-walker-loses-it-as-michael-gove-defends-cummings-why-couldnt-he-say-sorry/#respond Tue, 26 May 2020 07:21:39 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/dan-walker-loses-it-as-michael-gove-defends-cummings-why-couldnt-he-say-sorry/

“I think the account he gave was exhaustive, it was detailed, it was verifiable and I think people will have made their own mind up as they listened to Dominic’s account or as they read about it subsequently and I think most people will understand he was someone who was under pressure and put the health of his wife and son first and who took care to ensure they, as a unit, as a family unit, were not in danger of affecting other people.”

As the interview continues, Walker probed Gove about when he found out Cummings had driven to Durham before eventually losing it with the politician.

He exclaimed: “See the issue is Mr Gove is that I think many people will be listening to Dominic Cummings yesterday, listening to the Prime Minister and listening to you now today, and they have had these conversations with themselves, with their family members, they have been desperate to visit their parents, they have been desperate to visit their family members, they had ill children, they have been suffering with coronavirus and yet, they abided by the government guidelines.

“I think many people are listening to you today and saying, even if Dominic Cummings didn’t actually break those guidelines, what he did was against the spirit of the guidelines.

‘The show’s gone downhill!’ Piers Morgan’s ‘attack’ on Boris Johnson loses GMB viewers https://briefnews.eu/the-shows-gone-downhill-piers-morgans-attack-on-boris-johnson-loses-gmb-viewers/ https://briefnews.eu/the-shows-gone-downhill-piers-morgans-attack-on-boris-johnson-loses-gmb-viewers/#respond Fri, 01 May 2020 00:45:41 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-shows-gone-downhill-piers-morgans-attack-on-boris-johnson-loses-gmb-viewers/

The leader of the Conservative Party was battling coronavirus in an intensive care unit just a few weeks ago, and just as he was about to return to work his partner, Carrie Symonds gave birth to their first baby together; a boy.

Downing Street released the news alongside an image of Johnson – which was taken at an unknown date – on what is presumed to be a staircase from the coveted house, looking extremely happy.

Morgan, who has been a regular criticiser of Johnson and his party on GMB wasted no time in discussing the Prime Minister’s facial expression.

Kicking off the show just after 6am, Morgan said: “I don’t want to rain on the happy parade of the Prime Minister, I really don’t.

“I think it would be churlish to do that when he’s just become a father again and Carrie Symonds has just had her first baby.

“They’ve both been through a lot – they’ve both had the virus, Boris nearly died and it must have been a very worrying few weeks at the late stage of pregnancy. So I wish them all the best,” he continued.

“But you can’t get away from this jarring sense of every front page of a very happy Boris Johnson bounding up the steps inside Downing Street, released by Downing Street.

“And many newspapers have used that picture alongside very bad headlines of the death toll in this country now accelerating to the second worst in the world.

“Yet again, I’ve turned off due to the incessant drivel spouting from Piers Morgan. We don’t want to hear his constant criticism of basically anything he disagrees with. Megan Markel, Boris Johnson ….government in general!!#GMB,” one wrote.

An alternative tweet read: “Criticising Boris for being happy at the birth of his child, this show has gone downhill!#GMB.”

A spokeswoman for the Prime Minister and his partner said both mother and baby are “doing very well”.

BBC reported Johnson is expected to take a “short period” of paternity leave at some point later this year, Downing Street said.

However, they also declined to say whether the baby was born prematurely, and did not provide details of the weight, timing, nature or location of the birth.

Piers Morgan has made his feelings very clear on Meghan Markle during today’s Good Morning Britain. His discussion came after recent reports about how Prince Harry and his wife would be spending their Christmas.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly “recharging their batteries” as a family with their newborn, Archie.

However, some have criticised the pair for not spending time with the Queen and Prince Philip.

Piers unleashed yet another rant about Meghan, claiming she shouldn’t be complaining about her life.

Discussing the pair’s South Africa documentary in which Meghan admitted she was “struggling”, Piers said: “Can you imagine going in to this and making a documentary but turning it into a ‘woe is me’.

Susanna hit back: “She’s not making it up!”

Piers went on: “She’s turned on the waterworks to make us feel sorry for her.”

His co-star pondered: “Do you not think it’s acceptable to feel sympathy for someone?”

He continued: “I’m not buying the ‘woe is me’ nonsense with those two.
