11 children, some as young as 12 were found inside a refrigerated container on a lorry entering the UK. The group of 21, who are thought to be from Vietnam, were discovered at Newhaven’s port in East Sussex, on Thursday.

The group was reportedly discovered following a tip-off from a member of the public, Border Force officers searched the vehicle, finding 21 people who, according to the Home Office, ‘presented themselves as Vietnamese.’

11 of them were confirmed to be minors, the remaining 10 adults were interviewed by immigration officers. Two were subsequently deported, the rest – all thought to be in their 20s – will now be under Home Office supervision while their immigration cases progress.

The group was concealed within a shipment of sparkling water that was being transported by a Romanian national, who has been charged with assisting unlawful entry into the UK.

The suspect, named as 29-year-old Andrut Mihai Duma, is being held in custody. He is expected to appear at a hearing at Lewes Crown Court on November 26.

The case is being headed by the Immigration Enforcement, a Home Office division responsible for policing human trafficking, among other remits.

The group’s discovery follows that of 31 people – including children under the age of five – who were found in the back of a lorry in Portsmouth in September.

Van and lorry drivers soon face paying up to £100 a day to driving into cities, here’s why https://briefnews.eu/van-and-lorry-drivers-soon-face-paying-up-to-100-a-day-to-driving-into-cities-heres-why/ https://briefnews.eu/van-and-lorry-drivers-soon-face-paying-up-to-100-a-day-to-driving-into-cities-heres-why/#respond Wed, 01 Aug 2018 14:08:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/van-and-lorry-drivers-soon-face-paying-up-to-100-a-day-to-driving-into-cities-heres-why/

A new Government proposal could see van and lorry drivers face paying hefty fees to enter cities in a crackdown on air pollution.

The Government is set to introduce a number of Clean Air Zones (CAZ) which will charge drivers of the oldest and most polluting cars entering town centres and cities.

While car owners will also face fees, it is lorries and vans that could be penalised the heaviest under the rule changes.

It has also been revealed in new research that over half of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) are unaware of the scheme, according to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA).

Of these, 40 per cent are unaware of the specifics of the new rules and what the charges will cost them.

Gerry Keaney, BVRLA Chief Executive, said: “Unless more is done to publicise the impact of these various Clean Air Zones and mitigate their impact, hundreds of thousands of businesses across the country will be hit with a new regional road transport tax that will bring additional cost and confusion at a time when firms are already dealing with Brexit-related economic uncertainty.

“We are particularly concerned about truck operators, who are more likely to be impacted by these zones, face the biggest charges and will struggle to find and afford CAZ-compliant vehicles.”

“Our members have spent the last ten years helping businesses to meet the requirements of the London Low Emission Zone and they understand the costs and operational challenges that businesses will face with the introduction of new Clean Air Zones across the UK”.

Currently, in London, there is the toxic T-Charge which charges motorists £12.50 a day to use.

This will be replaced by the Ultra-Low Emissions Zone in 2019.

The clean air zones are expected to come into force in Leeds, Derby, Nottingham, Southampton, and Birmingham by 2020.

A further 23 local authorities have also signed up to potentially introduce a Clean Air Zone.

Charges are likely to follow the structure in London and the confirmed fees for the CAZ in Leeds.

Private vehicles and taxis are likely to pay £12.50 per day while buses, commercial vehicles, coaches, and HGVs will face paying up to £100.

It could also fine charge the fees to motorists based on their emissions standards in the same way the ULEZ will.

Under the ULEZ petrol and diesel cars will be charged £12.50 a day if they do not meet the Euro 4 and Euro 6 emissions standards respectively.

Google Maps Street View: Lorry stuck in ditch gets caught in this very awkward situation https://briefnews.eu/google-maps-street-view-lorry-stuck-in-ditch-gets-caught-in-this-very-awkward-situation/ https://briefnews.eu/google-maps-street-view-lorry-stuck-in-ditch-gets-caught-in-this-very-awkward-situation/#respond Fri, 08 Jun 2018 21:12:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/google-maps-street-view-lorry-stuck-in-ditch-gets-caught-in-this-very-awkward-situation/

Google Maps Street View was created in 2007 and has continued to offer people online the opportunity to visit places all over the world without having to leave the comfort of their own home.

First launched in the US, it has since extended to hundreds of countries and some of the most remote areas.

Designed as a way for people to get around in locations both new and familiar, it has also become a way to see people going about their daily lives.

One such scene has been snapped by Google Maps Street View in Mexico and shows an enormous white lorry stuck in a ditch at the side of the road.

Yet despite its size and predicament, the rescue service that has come to its aid is a tiny tow truck about half the lorry’s size.

Three men are gathered behind the tow truck – perhaps discussing how they can proceed with their rescue mission, if at all.

To make matters worse, what seems to be a car carrier trailer is approaching the scene with a car behind it.

It’s unclear what became of the men and the stuck truck as Google Maps caught the scene frozen in time and the aftermath was not filmed.

Clearly the white truck was shifted eventually as the current scene on Google Maps Street View shows the grass verge and woodlands beyond devoid of any vehicles.

The image was captured by Google Maps near the Sabancuy Estuary in Mexico.

Sabancuy is a picturesque fishing town which sits on the lower side of the estuary.

It boasts quiet beaches with fine white sand and shallow, clear water. The Mexican spot is particularly known for housing major nesting grounds for hawksbill and green turtles.

Sadly this stretch of coastline was was completely devastated by Hurricane Roxanne in 1995, but thankfully has now fully recovered.

This is not the first interesting scene to have been captured in Mexico by Google maps Street View.

One schoolgirl was left red-faced after she was caught by the street car camera right at the moment she did something mortifying.

The camera took a shot just as the girl fell over on a steep hill.

Dressed in school uniform, the girl was with a group of friends – all of whom are stood around looking on in amusement as she lays on the ground.

The girl’s arms are swinging and her legs are elevated as she attempts to get back up. In the fray she somehow lost her backpack, which is seen flung just behind her.

Google has blurred her face and those of her friends to make sure she isn’t easily identifiable.

The embarrassing moment happened in in Santa Catarina, Neuvo León, Mexico back in 2009.

WATCH: Traffic warden narrowly avoids death after lorry fails to see him https://briefnews.eu/watch-traffic-warden-narrowly-avoids-death-after-lorry-fails-to-see-him/ https://briefnews.eu/watch-traffic-warden-narrowly-avoids-death-after-lorry-fails-to-see-him/#respond Fri, 06 Apr 2018 20:30:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/watch-traffic-warden-narrowly-avoids-death-after-lorry-fails-to-see-him/

A viral video has captured a traffic warden on a busy road directing traffic.

Filmed on his vehicle dash cam, he uses lights to direct traffic around his car as it appears to be parked in the middle lane.

Most of the cars manage to avoid him, as the lane is empty.

He stops and looks into the distance only to run at full speed out of shot.

What happens next could have had a fateful outcome for the poor man.

As he runs away, a lorry can be seen speeding towards the car.

They appear to have ignored the cones and flashing lights and hurtle towards the man.

At the last minute, the driver notices and sharply turns to the left.

The vehicle somehow comes to a top, missing both the man and the car.

No-one appears to have been hurt, thankfully.

The Imgur video has had over 450,000 views with many online users shocked at the video.

One noticed his hilarious actions whilst running: “Better take off my hat so I can run faster.”

Others praised the lorry drivers actions.

Another remarked: “Say what you will, that’s an impressive stop.”

Of course, one noted: “I think paying attention to the road and seeing the cop more than 20 metres out would probably be more impressive.”

Another lorry had a different kind of accident when driving with a full load.

Captured in the US, the vehicle is driving towards a low bridge on a highway.

What they haven’t realised is that the trailer on the back is still up.

As they go under the bridge, the roof is dramatically ripped off and the contents spill out over the road.

Whilst no-one was injured, an investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the incident.

Marcella spoilers: Dramatic lorry plot twist leaves Anna Friel fans confused https://briefnews.eu/marcella-spoilers-dramatic-lorry-plot-twist-leaves-anna-friel-fans-confused/ https://briefnews.eu/marcella-spoilers-dramatic-lorry-plot-twist-leaves-anna-friel-fans-confused/#respond Mon, 19 Mar 2018 23:45:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/marcella-spoilers-dramatic-lorry-plot-twist-leaves-anna-friel-fans-confused/

The dramatic continuation saw Marcella (played by Anna Friel) get one step closer to finding the serial killer.

In tonight’s episode, Marcella discovered the horrifying truth about the scale of the killer’s crimes when she discovered the murderer’s lair.

Kevin Hoffs and his blue lorry were found abandoned in a lay by in a huge plot revelation.

Leann informed Marcella that the lorry had been there for 36 hours.

After analysing Adam’s phone records, the team became aware that Adam had contacted the KidsCall helpline.

Marcella headed there to retrieve the records and Maya was helpful despite both women having Tim Williamson in common.

From Adam’s records they saw that he’d admitted to being abused by his father – but his father had alibis for many incidents surrounding the case.

Retracing the route of the lorry and the car from the train crash, the team were able to deduce the area in which Adam was picked up and the lorry was stolen.

Officers were dispatched to the area and come across an old abandoned house with a bloody handprint on the door.

What they find inside the house shocked Marcella and Rav to their core as the true scale of the killer’s crimes become apparent.

Viewers instantly took to social media following the broadcast, with one tweeting: “Blink and you miss about 10 different plots, characters and theories #marcella.”

“Love #Marcella but it doesn’t half freak me out!” posted another.

A third added: “#Marcella more confused, can wait another week!”

“#Marcella just when I start to think I may have an idea what’s going on and……..nope not a clue #awholeweekswait,” wrote another.

A fifth teased: “Right! I’ve narrowed it down. It’s either the boxer, the nurse, that lady who runs the company, her husband, one of the ladies trying for a baby or that old singer guy or possibly one of those extras that does something different in every scene #Marcella #whodunnit.”

One fan completely gave up, stating: “I’m more confused than she is #Marcella.”

Marcella continues next Monday on at 9pm.

WATCH: Heart-stopping moment car is almost CRUSHED by falling lorry https://briefnews.eu/watch-heart-stopping-moment-car-is-almost-crushed-by-falling-lorry/ https://briefnews.eu/watch-heart-stopping-moment-car-is-almost-crushed-by-falling-lorry/#respond Tue, 28 Nov 2017 23:54:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/watch-heart-stopping-moment-car-is-almost-crushed-by-falling-lorry/

A viral video has emerged showing a cars close shave when driving along a busy road at night.

The video shows two lanes of traffic as they’re stuck in a queue of tailbacks.

On the left is a lorry with a large container attached to the back and on the right is a normal car.

What happens next makes for a terrifying watch.

As the lorry slowly creeps forward, the wheel gets stuck in a huge pothole.

Suddenly, the container tilts dangerously onto one side, hanging precariously over the other car.

The car quickly moves forward and out of the way as it can see what is about to happen.

Thankfully, due to good suspension, the lorry doesn’t fall over and instead hangs in mid-air, avoiding any injury.

The Imgur video has since had over 70,000 views as users were biting their nails in fear.

One user remarked: “This is why it is important to fix potholes.”

Others blamed the truck driver for the near miss.

Another user commented: “The driver that overload that truck deserves a swift kick to the shins.”

It isn’t the first close shave a driver has experienced.

A car was filmed driving along a narrow road through the forest they filmed from their dashcam.

As they speed along, a passing lorry suddenly loses its wheel which detaches and bounces off.

The person filming avoids what could have been a nasty accident.

WATCH: Terrifying moment THIS explodes on top of a moving lorry https://briefnews.eu/watch-terrifying-moment-this-explodes-on-top-of-a-moving-lorry/ https://briefnews.eu/watch-terrifying-moment-this-explodes-on-top-of-a-moving-lorry/#respond Fri, 20 Oct 2017 18:54:54 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/watch-terrifying-moment-this-explodes-on-top-of-a-moving-lorry/

The video shows a lorry driving along a motorway at speed as it is filmed by a car behind it.

It appears to have something large on top of the vehicle that looks like a large bag of something.

As the lorry then goes under the bridge, the unexpected happens.

Luckily no-one appeared to be hurt in the aftermath.

It seems that what is actually on top of the lorry is a huge mound of snow, which then hits the lower part of the bridge.

This then causes it to explode in a huge plume of snow, causing a cloud of white.

The car driving behind is then caught up in it, losing vision for a few seconds.

With a few swipes of the wind screen wiper, the drier emerges unscathed and continues to drive.

The Imgur video, which has had over 70,000 views, shocked users.

One wrote: “Driving with that much snow on top is like wicked illegal.”

Others have been through the terrifying experience themselves.

They commented: “I’ve had a windshield shattered because of that.”

Another driver got caught by surprise when driving in snowy conditions.

Filmed in Canada, the car is going through a snowy forest when suddenly dark shapes appear in the road.

Quickly coming closer, it then appears that it is three moose standing the middle of the road.

He somehow manages to avoid them by the skin of his teeth.

Bad drivers being caught on camera make great entertainment.

From running red lights to dangerous overtaking manoeuvres, many are caught out with instant karma.

However, one lorry driver caught something on camera that no one could expect.

It wasn’t another vehicle that brought it to a stop.

The video on Imgur, which has amassed over 430,000 views, shows the dashcam footage on the lorry.

As the lorry moves over a junction, it appears nothing is out of the ordinary.

However, the lorry comes a sudden halt, before a horse and carriage speeds past.

With the man inside looking rather frantic, it appears that the horses is completely out of control.

Imgur users were also impressed with the event.

One commented: “That literally came out of nowhere.”

However, another few users found the place rather familiar.

Another user wrote: “That’s Redcar where I live. And yeah that’s pretty much how it is.”

It’s not the first time a horse has been the centre of attention on camera.

One man filming caught the shocking moment whilst filming a horse in the field.

Whilst the video is nothing special, what happens behind on the road is worth noting.

No one could expect what happens next.

The shocking footage was captured from the dash cam of a huge lorry as it sped along a busy road.

Cars were merging from the left lane as it become a single line of traffic.

But one small white car wasn’t content with the one-for-one rule.

The driver illegally zoomed up over the white lined section to cut off the semi-trailer.

But the lorry driver refused to let the small car disrespect the rules, instead speeding up to get in front before the car could properly merge.

The bizarre behaviour did not stop there – the white car’s driver took things one dangerous step further.

As all the vehicles on the road began to merge with two lanes on the left side, the white car suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

The driver had ducked behind the lorry and zoomed up on the right side of it instead.

Veering in a dangerous diagonal direction, the white car sped in front of the lorry.

The sudden onslaught caused the semi-trailer driver to slam on their brakes and swerve out, narrowly missing the small white car in front.

Since it was shared online, the footage has quickly gone viral.

Uploaded to Imgur, the video has been viewed over 268,000 times, with over 1,000 comments.

WATCH: Dramatic moment driver cheats DEATH after oncoming lorry loses control on icy road https://briefnews.eu/watch-dramatic-moment-driver-cheats-death-after-oncoming-lorry-loses-control-on-icy-road/ https://briefnews.eu/watch-dramatic-moment-driver-cheats-death-after-oncoming-lorry-loses-control-on-icy-road/#respond Wed, 09 Aug 2017 13:06:18 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/watch-dramatic-moment-driver-cheats-death-after-oncoming-lorry-loses-control-on-icy-road/

Driving in blustery weather conditions can be nerve-racking at times, but one driver had the fright of their life on a narrow snowy highway.

Dash cam footage captured the car travelling along the road behind a big lorry.

Dense forest lined either side of the highway, which was fringed with layers of thick snow.

After a car passed in the other direction, the driver in the lorry ahead suddenly slammed on their brakes.

The lorry swerved to the right side of the road, veering off into the snow.

As the driver in the car tried to pass the huge vehicle, they were suddenly stopped in their tracks by the sight looming in front of them.

Another lorry, this time in the oncoming direction, had spun out on the icy road.

Its cargo swerved out to the side, smashing into the side rail on the highway.

The lorry driver kept moving forward, so that its cargo was heading straight for the now stationary car in the middle of the road.

Incredibly the vehicle missed the car by an extremely narrow distance, leaving only icy mist in its wake.

Another truck had pulled over on the side of the road in the oncoming direction.

It suggested the lorry may have been trying to overtake when its wheels spun out.

The extremely nerve-racking clip has gone viral since it was shared online.

Uploaded to content site Imgur, the video has been viewed over 60,000 times.

One user wrote: “Basic rule that keeps me alive… If the truck ahead is panic braking, you probably should too.”

Another shared: “I sat back and gripped the sides of my seat for this.”

A different video showed a lorry’s cargo nearly topple onto a car driving next to it.
