1 | Alright, about that Behind Her Eyes finale [deep breath]…. Why, oh why, did Louise have to go inside Adele’s burning home herself to save her? Couldn’t she just have called the fire department? (And when did Louise learn to astral-project, anyway?) Do you kind of want to go back and rewatch the whole thing to see if there are hints that Rob is in Adele’s body? Finally, would you watch a Season 2, to see if Adam could figure out that’s not his mom and warn David?

Line of Duty season five has got fans talking, and the major sticking point has been around whether John Corbett (played by Stephen Graham) is a bad guy or a good guy.
Is the man a rogue cop who was to gain control of a criminal gang, or is he actually trying to bring down the organisation from the inside?
The second episode of season five seemed to hint towards the latter being the truth, which some viewers spotted.
There was a moment when there was an ambush on police units and guns were fired, yet, incredibly, there were no casualties.
After the incident, Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) asked: “How many casualties?”
It was then revealed that there were no casualties, despite the fact that there was a lot of gunfire.
Viewers then took to Twitter to point out how this could prove that Corbett is, in fact, working for the good guys.
One viewer wrote: “It feels like Corbett is corrupt but still trying to do his job in some kind of weird way?”
Another added: “Maybe John’s not bent after all. Zero casualties from that incident.”
A third asked: “No one was killed? Well that’s absolutely ridiculous isn’t it.”
“No casualties whatsoever lol, despite their car being shot countless times,” said another fan of the BBC show.
“No casualties were the bullets fake?” asked another fan.
One more person tweeted: “No casualties is SUSPICIOUS to me John.”
“No casualties… Like someone knew it was gonna happen,” suggested another viewer.
Someone else wrote: “No casualties? Is Corbett somehow trying to remain within the letter of the law?”
A bizarre law that lets any motorists park on your driveway could be scrapped.
The new law would stop any motorist parking on private property.
Under current laws, drivers are fairly powerless when it comes to removing a driver than parks on your driveway without permission.
Jersey will aim to tackle this by now classifying the offences as ‘nuisance parking.’
A new draft law lodged by the Minister for Home Affairs proposed that these cars would be able to be removed if they parked on your driveway without permission.
The law would also make it illegal for drivers to place a clamp on cars parked on their driveway without permission.
Currently, the law is only proposed to come into force in Jersey meaning not all motorists from across the UK will be able to benefit from the rule change.
Constable Len Norman, Jersey’s Minister for Home Affairs, told ITV Channel TV: “Vehicles that are parked on private land without permission can be a source of great frustration for private landowners.
“Currently, private landowners have few remedies to deal with the problem, and it can involve a costly legal process.
“The introduction of this law will make it much easier for private landowners to seek relief from vehicles that have been abandoned on their land or that are causing a nuisance, obstruction or a potential hazard to the emergency services.”
Parking on a motorists driveway is a tricky issue to price as it blurs the line between a civil and criminal offence.
Local authorities can remove a vehicle that is parked on a public road, blocking your driveway.
However, if it is on your driveway then the authorities have no jurisdiction.
Apple’s new USB Restricted Mode, which dropped with the iOS 11.4.1 release yesterday, may not be as secure as previously thought. The feature is designed to protect iPhones against USB devices used by law enforcement to crack your passcode, and works by disabling USB access after the phone has been locked for an hour. Computer security company ElcomSoft, however, has found a loophole.
Researchers with the firm found that the one hour counter will be reset if you plug in a USB accessory within that window, and it doesn’t matter whether that accessory has ever been used with the phone in the past, either. Tests showed the bypass even works with Apple’s own Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter (which costs $ 39 in Apple’s online store). ElcomSoft is now in the process of performing more tests on other adaptors, although it notes the cheaper $ 9 Lightning to 3.5mm adaptor doesn’t work in the same way.
According to the company’s Oleg Afonin, “once the police officer seizes an iPhone, he or she would need to immediately connect that iPhone to a compatible USB accessory to prevent USB Restricted Mode lock after one hour.” He then questions the chances of a device being seized within an hour after its last unlock. “Quite high. We were not able to find any recent stats, but even two years ago an average user unlocked their iPhone at least 80 times a day.”
However, ElcomSoft says the ability to postpone Restricted Mode by connecting an iPhone to an untrusted USB accessory is “probably nothing more than an oversight.” Given that Apple introduced the Restricted Mode feature in the first place to ward off law enforcement access it seems unlikely that they’d purposefully include such a basic loophole. It’s not yet clear what action — if any — Apple will take on this, but it won’t be too difficult to rectify in subsequent versions of iOS.

Hotel guests will at very least expect to be staying in freshly laundered sheets, rather than ones left dirty by a stranger.
However, hotel rooms are not always as clean as we might wish them to be – it was recently revealed that the hotel glasses are left dirty.
There is an easy hospitality mistake that could leave you spending the night in someone else’s dirty bed linen.
A laundry expert even warned that unwashed sheets and pillowcases can harbour a cocktail of saliva, urine and genital fluids.
“You may be sleeping on used sheets, even in 5 star hotels,” warned Bruce Claver, who has worked for over 25 years in luxury hospitality, on question and answer sharing forum Quora.
He went on to explain how this might happen, even at the very best and most expensive of hotel chains, using the example of a hypothetical “Mr Smith”.
“Let’s say Mr. Smith is scheduled to depart after four nights, on June 4th, but finished his business meeting a day early and caught an early flight on the 3rd.”
However, if Mr Smith does not check out of the hotel – a common practice among hotel guests – then the room will be cleaned as if he is still staying in it, rather than as a post check-out service.
“It is easier for the room attendant to make a bed instead of stripping it and putting on new sheets and ignoring the fact that Mr. Smith is gone.”
If the housekeeper the next day finds the room clean, they might conclude they do not need to do any further work – assuming that the staff the day before have cleaned the room.
Bruce explains this is easily done, given the tough requirements of hotel cleaning staff to clean a large number of rooms per shift.
“Room attendants are under a lot of pressure and stress to clean their rooms in 8 hours and to walk into a vacant room that looks already clean is a hidden bonus,” he adds.
“Will she be caught? Most likely not unless a guest complains that there are used sheets on the bed.”
If you are suspicious of your sheets’ cleanliness, Bruce has also shed light on the best ways to investigate.
“In each hotel i check into, I pull the bedspread back to see if the sheets are wrinkled or if I can find hair.”
However, he admits – unless there is a lot of hair – it is an imperfect science – which ultimately comes down to your intuition.
“Look for hair, inspect the pillow cases and go with your gut or, turn off the lights and get into bed without thinking about it. Good luck!”
Martin Lewis, 45, says Asda customers can get a four per cent Christmas shopping boost if they take advantage of a loophole in its savings stamps scheme.
The company has a ‘Christmas savings card’ designed to help people save cash in the run-up to the expensive festive period.
Asda customers can pick up a savings card at any Asda store – then register it on their website so the balance on the card can be protected if lost.
The supermarket designed the card to help saving for Christmas easier – money can be added to the card at any Asda checkout or the Customer Service Desk.
But money expert Martin has found an impressive loophole that could add 4% to anyone’s card – but only if you act fast.
Appearing on This Morning on Friday, Martin said: “Supermarket savings stamps encourage year-long saving for Christmas, yet a loophole allows you to get the year’s bonus in one day.”
According to the Money Saving Expert, if you top up the maximum £144 on Asda’s Christmas Savings Card (which you can pick up in-store by 5pm Sunday 12 November, on Monday Asda will add £6 to the card – which is a four per cent boost.
Martin added: “If you top up less, say £97, you’ll get £3 on top.
“You don’t have to spend the cash on the card all in one go, but you do have to spend it in Asda stores (excludes petrol and lottery tickets).
“in other words, if you’re planning to shop in Asda before Christmas (or in the future, as the cards last two years) then you may as well do this.
“Iceland and the Co-op have similar schemes too.”
Martin also revealed this week how BT Broadband users could dodge its price hike and slash their monthly bill.
BT Broadband users are warned on Thursday by Martin of the rising costs of its service.
But he told Good Morning Britain it could be used as a way to save cash.
Users will soon be sent a letter in the post to notify of BT’s new costs – and here’s where you need to get clever, said Martin.
If you want to leave BT this is the time to do it, as long as you act fast.
He said: “If they notify you of a price change mid contract, you have 30 days for the day the letter is sent to break the contract penalty free.”
But if you are happy with your service and just want a lower rate, it is also time to pick up the phone.
He added: “Call up the standard line and say: ‘I want to stay with you but I can see it’s cheaper elsewhere, so I want you to give me a cheaper price.’”
If this does not work, Martin has a further trick: “Ask to be put through to Disconnections, which is internally know as customer retentions – they have the real power to keep you.”
Gretchen Carlson: Now the woman’s not working at the company any more and the harasser can stay and nobody ever knows about it.
In 2016, Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Fox News founder Roger Ailes. Carlson’s allegations led to his resignation and a $ 20 million settlement.
Carlson: So the Supreme Court ruled on arbitration clauses more than 20 years ago. Making them an accessible vehicle for corporations to put them in the contracts. So I guess the excuse was so that we wouldn’t clog the courts with workplace disputes. The problem is that forced arbitration is secret. And so when a woman comes forward with a sexual harassment claim and she has a forced arbitration clause in her contract, nobody ever knows about it. She’s basically given up her 7th Amendment right to an open jury process. And so she’s sexually harassed, she files a claim, her claim goes to arbitration, the company in most cases picks the arbitrator. Only 20 percent of the time does the woman or the employee win. There’s not the same amount of witness, witnesses that you can call or depositions. And there are no appeals. So the biggest factor is the secrecy element. Now the woman’s not working at the company anymore and the harasser can stay and nobody ever knows about it. So that’s inherently wrong to me. It’s outrageous that women are being silenced in this way on this specific issue. So what I’ve been trying to do on Capitol Hill is take the secrecy out of it. So I’ve been meeting with senators for the last year to try to make this a bipartisan effort. Nothing gets done on Capitol Hill right now. So I know and understand that we need to have bipartisan support on this for it to ever become a reality. And so on this issue Democrats tend to be on my side. I’m really working hard to get Republicans to at least do baby steps and get rid of the secrecy element. And wouldn’t it be wonderful that we would come forward with a bill that would support women and might even wind up on Donald Trump’s desk.

A gay couple and state officials in Colorado asked the Supreme Court on Monday to uphold a judgment against a Christian baker who refused to sell a custom wedding cake in 2012, warning that creating a loophole for religious people to sidestep Colorado’s antidiscrimination law could have far-reaching consequences that diminish rights of other minorities.
“Whether wedding cakes are artistic expression is not the issue here,” the couple’s lawyers wrote in a brief filed Monday. “The question, rather, is whether the Constitution grants businesses open to the public the right to violate laws against discrimination in the commercial marketplace if the business happens to sell an artistic product. Under this Court’s precedent, the answer to that question is no.”
It marked the first time David Mullins and Charlie Craig fleshed out the merits of their arguments to the Supreme Court in their case, which began five years ago in a Denver suburb and has snowballed to become the nation’s foremost dispute between same-sex couples and religious objectors.
The couple’s attorneys at the ACLU were responding to claims made by Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, who is being represented by lawyers at the Alliance Defending Freedom with support from the Trump administration’s Justice Department.
The Colorado Civil Rights Commission, another party in the case, also filed a brief on Monday to defend the state’s civil rights law, warning that granting leeway to “expressive” businesses is a slippery slope.
“For example, a family portrait studio could enforce a ‘No Mexicans’ policy,” the state lawyers write. “A banquet hall could refuse to host events for Jewish people.”
“The First Amendment does not privilege the expressive rights of some businesses above the expressive rights of others when it comes to selling goods and services to the public,” says Colorado’s brief.
Likewise, the couple says that both Phillips and Justice Department’s arguments to protect free expression are “boundless in practice.”
“[B]akeries could refuse to provide not just wedding cakes for gay couples, interracial couples, or interfaith couples, but birthday cakes for African-American families, graduation cakes for women, and cupcakes for a Catholic family celebrating a First Communion,” lawyers for the couple write. “[N]umerous other businesses could claim exemptions from anti-discrimination laws and other regulations of commercial conduct.”
Phillips and his backers have said providing wedding-related services to same-sex couples amounts to participating in the ceremonies, thereby violating First Amendment rights to religious exercise and free speech.
But in their brief on Monday, lawyers for the couple dismiss that line of thinking, saying the Supreme Court has never cut down a civil rights law like that.
“The Anti-Discrimination Act applies to businesses that choose to serve the public at large and requires that once they offer a product, they not refuse service based on enumerated personal characteristics, including race, religion, and sexual orientation,” the brief filed on Monday states.
The case dates back to July 2012, when Craig and Mullins attempted to order a custom wedding cake from Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado, but Phillips declined, saying that it would violate his religious beliefs.
“I’ll make you birthday cakes, shower cakes, sell you cookies and brownies, I just don’t make cakes for same-sex weddings,” court records say Phillips told the men.
The couple filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which found in 2014 that Phillips ran afoul of a state law banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The commission ordered Phillips to train his staff to follow the law and submit quarterly compliance reports. A Colorado appeals court upheld the ruling, saying the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act prohibits a business open to the public “from picking and choosing customers based on their sexual orientation.”
The court added the law “does not impose burdens on religious conduct not imposed on secular conduct.”
But in Phillips’s brief to the Supreme Court, which agreed in June to hear his appeal, he argues Colorado’s nondiscrimination law targets those who oppose same-sex marriage, thereby limiting their First Amendment rights to free exercise and free expression. Given that the law infringes on certain people of faith, the baker’s lawyers argue the state government must have a compelling reason for the law and tailor it narrowly. They say the law fails that test.
Phillips leans heavily on Hurley v. Irish American Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Group of Boston, a 1995 Supreme Court decision that found a parade could exclude an LGBT group.
In responding on Monday, lawyers for Mullins and Craig note the parade decision isn’t germane because it “applied not to commercial conduct, but to a private, expressive parade.”
The couple’s lawyers go on to counter the baker’s claim that the nondiscrimination law must meet a higher standard, known as strict scrutiny, by saying the law is applied neutrally — not to any particular expression or type of speech. But even so, they cite a raft of Supreme Court decisions upholding civil rights laws over concerns about free expression or free exercise. Among them, the high court found in 1984 a law firm couldn’t deny a promotion to a woman, even though the firm engaged in expressive conduct, and in 1983 that a religious university couldn’t ban students from interracial relationships.
“The Anti-Discrimination Act furthers the State’s substantial interest in eradicating discrimination, an interest that is ‘unrelated to the suppression of expression’ … and that interest would be achieved less effectively if ‘expressive’ businesses were allowed to discriminate,” lawyers for the couples write. “Indeed, the Anti-Discrimination Act would survive even strict scrutiny, because it is precisely tailored to serve not just an important, but a compelling government interest in ending discrimination by commercial establishments open to the public.”
Democrats in both the House and Senate unveiled new legislation Wednesday to ban the inexpensive device used by the Las Vegas gunman to rapidly fire semi-automatic rifles like machine guns in the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.
Twelve “bump stock” devices were attached to firearms found in Stephen Paddock’s Mandalay Bay hotel suite where he took aim at a crowd of concertgoers Sunday night, killing 58 people and injuring more than 500 others.
Automatic weapons, only legal if made before 1986, are heavily regulated by the federal government, requiring approval and registration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. But bump stock devices, available for about $ 200 to 350 in most states, can easily make legal guns fire mimic the functionality of a machine gun.
“Automatic weapons have been illegal for more than 30 years, but there’s a loophole in the law that can be exploited to allow killers to fire at rates of between 400 and 800 rounds per minute,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat. “The only reason to fire so many rounds so fast is to kill large numbers of people.”
Feinstein’s bill has 24 cosponsors, and a companion bill in the House has nearly 100 cosponsors, but only Democrats have signed on so far. With Republicans in charge of both houses, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday dismissing any kind of gun legislation at the moment, the bills face an uphill battle.
“It’s particularly inappropriate to politicize an event like this,” Mitch McConnell told reporters Tuesday. “Entirely premature to be discussing about legislative solutions, if any.”
But Politico reported Wednesday at least some top-ranking Republicans are willing to look at a narrow bill targeting bump stocks. Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, of Texas, reportedly asked his staff to research the use of the devices and seemed open to the idea of a hearing.
“I’m not sure how these bump stocks fit into that scheme, but that’s certainly something that’s got my attention and I think we ought to get to the bottom of it,” he told Politico.
John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, also said the Senate “ought to look into” the device.
Only one Republican, as of Wednesday afternoon, has called for an outright ban of bump stocks.
Rep. Bill Flores, from Texas, told The Hill he’s a gun owner himself, and believes the devices should be outlawed.
“I think they should be banned,” he said. “There’s no reason a typical gun owner to own anything that converts a semi-automatic to something that behaves like an automatic.”
Democrats, meanwhile, are moving forward with their bills, including Feinstein, who advocated a ban on assault weapons after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Her “National Firearms Act” bill, introduced Wednesday would ban the sale, transfer, and manufacture of bump stocks, trigger cranks, and other devices that would modify semi-automatic weapons to fire as fast as automatic weapons.
The bill is identical to the one introduced in the House by Rep. David Cicilline, a Rhode Island Democrat.
“No person should possess a device that turns a semi-automatic rifle into the equivalent of a machine gun,” said Cicilline in a statement. “The sole purpose of these devices is to fire as many bullets as possible as quickly as possible.”
Rep. Dina Titus, who represents the Las Vegas area, cosponsored the bill.
“The victims and families in Las Vegas don’t need an explanation about the difference between machine guns and firearms with bump stocks,” Titus said. “They need action.”
