As a second season has not yet been announced officially there is no trailer to watch at the moment, but fans should watch this space.

If a second series was to air it will most likely come about in the autumn of 2021, so there will be quite a long wait.

Fans have praised the artist for inspiring such an aesthetically pleasing series, and they have thanked him on Twitter.

One fan said: “@simonstalenhag I just finished #TalesFromTheLoop and it blew me away. Such beautiful stories. It was amazing seeing who directed the episodes as well. Great score as well.”

The artist has shared a number of photos from the set on his Twitter feed so fans can take a look behind the scenes.

Tales from the Loop is available to watch on Amazon Prime now

RELATED STORIES

This week on Arrow — in the penultimate pre-Crisis episode — Lyla threw Oliver for quite a loop. How did this unusual odyssey prepare him for the cosmic battle to come?

As teased by director David Ramsey, this “alternate reality” escapade evoked the likes of Groundhog Day, Russian Doll and, yes, “that Tom Cruise movie,” Laurel. Oliver kept waking up in his Star City apartment at 6:27 pm, only to be told by an arriving Mia, William and Connor that he was late for a fundraiser (for the Star City Vigilante Pilot Program, Rene later informs us). During his first trip to the soiree, Oliver sees and confronts Diggle and then Lyla herself about the whole “tranq dart on rooftop” thing, but they brush it off as a misunderstanding — that Lyla has been working as a double agent.

Oliver then learns that the mayor with whom he is giving a joint speech is Quentin Lance, who, yes, got shot years ago by Diaz, but just barely survived. When a hostage situation arises at the SCPD, Quentin insists on going in to talk to the armed mercs, as requested, while Oliver sneaks in through the back. Oliver manages to disarm the lead tough, but not before he triggered a bomb in the basement, killing everyone.

Arrow 8x06Oliver then woke up back on his couch, 6:27 again, determined to dodge the bomb this time around. But no matter what he tries, and even with a similarly time loop-ing Laurel’s help, they can’t seem to not fall down the stairs keep Quentin alive. During one  of Quentin’s final “deaths,” Laurel opens up about how he is/was the reason she has tried to become a hero — to which not-quite-her-father responds, “Sweetheart, you are a hero.” Laurel then says she never had a chance to express how much Quentin meant to her, except in saying that, she just did. Laurel realizes that all she ever wanted was a chance say a proper good-bye to Quentin, and now she has. And with his latest passing, she vanishes from the ongoing time loop.

The next go-round, in the bunker, Lyla explains to Oliver that Laurel got what she needed from this exercise, and now The Monitor needs Oliver to understand that the only way to “win” is to accept the inevitable. Oliver however tries to again to save Quentin, but even Lance knows his number was rightly up the day Diaz shot him, that after outrunning death for so long, that time was different. He has made peace with his fate, and Oliver should, too.

When Lance’s latest death triggers another reset, this time Oliver starts out by avowing to Mia, William and Connor  what a gift it has been to get to know them, and how proud he is of them. Then, at the fundraiser, he pulls Quentin aside to… ask what made him decide, years ago, that Star City’s resident vigilante was his enemy anymore. Quentin says that his daughters’ opinions played a huge role toward leading him to realize they shared the same goals. Oliver then confused Lance a bit by lamenting this second good-bye, before shaking his hand and walking away.

Lyla meets up with Oliver and congratulate him for now understanding that just as he couldn’t change Lance’s fate, nor can he change his own. And he is the kind of person who has always needed to see things for himself. Lyla confirms that she has worked with the Monitor for a while now, and keeping that secret from John was the hardest thing she ever had to do. But she did it for the same reason that Oliver walked away from Felicity and baby Mia, to protect family. A Crisis is coming, she asserts, and all they can do is try to survive it. With it comes an evil “greater than anything we have ever had to face,” and Oliver is they only chance they have of stopping it.

But first, is it time for Oliver’s final mission, which starts off with him and Laurel waking up inside a tent, outside of which they find Diggle, Mia, William, Connor…

… and Lian Yu.

There’s nothing better than a clever take on the classic sci-fi time-loop trope—and that’s what we got in last year’s darkly comic slasher movie, Happy Death Day. We clearly weren’t the only ones who wanted more of the film’s take on deja vu, as evidenced by this week’s brand-new trailer for its sequel, Happy Death Day 2U.

(Spoilers for the first film below.)

If you haven’t seen the first Happy Death Day and want to avoid spoilers, you may want to skip the trailer, since it opens with a recap of the source material. So the sequel should require little to no watching of the first film (though, again, we suggest you do just that).

Apple Watch daylight saving bug leaves Series 4 devices in a loop https://briefnews.eu/apple-watch-daylight-saving-bug-leaves-series-4-devices-in-a-loop/ https://briefnews.eu/apple-watch-daylight-saving-bug-leaves-series-4-devices-in-a-loop/#respond Sun, 07 Oct 2018 23:19:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/apple-watch-daylight-saving-bug-leaves-series-4-devices-in-a-loop/

Apple is still grappling with daylight saving time issues after all these years. Some Australian Apple Watch Series 4 owners have reported that their devices are stuck in reboot loops after the country switched to DST this weekend. Apparently, the Activity complication on the Series 4’s Infograph Modular face doesn’t know how to handle a day that’s an hour short — so long as that complication is active, the smartwatch crashes and restarts until it runs out of power.

Some users have had success changing the face through the Watch app on the iPhone, but the only surefire solution may be to wait until the shortened day is over.

We’ve asked Apple for comment. While this sounds like a temporary problem, it could be a recurring one there isn’t a fix. DST ends in North America on November 4th, for instance. While it’s not certain if the bug applies when you gain an extra hour in the day, Series 4 users might not want to find out first-hand.

Elon Musk says The Boring Company’s Loop will prioritize pedestrians, cyclists https://briefnews.eu/elon-musk-says-the-boring-companys-loop-will-prioritize-pedestrians-cyclists/ https://briefnews.eu/elon-musk-says-the-boring-companys-loop-will-prioritize-pedestrians-cyclists/#respond Sat, 10 Mar 2018 17:47:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/elon-musk-says-the-boring-companys-loop-will-prioritize-pedestrians-cyclists/

Elon Musk started The Boring Company in late 2016 because he was frustrated by sitting in his car in Los Angeles traffic. A system of tunnels, he reasoned, would alleviate certain traffic choke points. The idea turned into reality throughout 2017, as Musk tore up the parking lot outside of his SpaceX headquarters, testing boring machinery to find weak spots that engineers might improve upon to make tunnel-digging faster and cheaper.

The idea also changed a bit: instead of simply looking to build the cheapest tunnels, The Boring Company wanted to build a “Loop” inside its tunnels. The Loop would be a modified version of Musk’s Hyperloop idea, but it would not pull a vacuum and cars would be lowered into the tunnel system where they would be put on electric skates and zipped off to their destination automatically.

According to some tweets from Elon Musk last night, though, the idea has once again morphed. “Adjusting The Boring Company plan: all tunnels & Hyperloop will prioritize pedestrians & cyclists over cars,” the executive tweeted, adding: “Will still transport cars, but only after all personalized mass transit needs are met. It’s a matter of courtesy & fairness. If someone can’t afford a car, they should go first.”

The “Mach Loop” in northwest Wales provides a perfect vantage point to watch fighter jets and other aircraft blitz through steep-sided valleys at almost eye level.

Earlier this week, amateur photographer Elwyn Roberts caught what appear to be US Air Force F-15 fighters from the 48th Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath — home to the US Air Force in Europe’s only F-15 fighter wing — making some thunderous passes through the Loop’s snow-capped mountains.

The Boring Company proposes 125-150mph “Loop” for Chicago express train request https://briefnews.eu/the-boring-company-proposes-125-150mph-loop-for-chicago-express-train-request/ https://briefnews.eu/the-boring-company-proposes-125-150mph-loop-for-chicago-express-train-request/#respond Thu, 30 Nov 2017 21:17:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-boring-company-proposes-125-150mph-loop-for-chicago-express-train-request/

On Wednesday, the city of Chicago opened a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for an express train that would take passengers from the city’s O’Hare airport to downtown. The system would have to be completely privately funded—Chicago says no taxpayer money would be used for it.

Elon Musk’s Boring Company—a tunneling company that the SpaceX and Tesla CEO started last year—will respond to the request. Musk hopes to get to the second round when bidding will take place. On Wednesday evening, he tweeted that his company “will compete to fund, build & operate a high-speed Loop connecting Chicago O’Hare Airport to downtown.”

Musk’s reference to a “Loop” is explained more clearly on The Boring Company’s FAQ page: “Loop is a high-speed underground public transportation system in which passengers are transported on autonomous electric skates traveling at 125-150 miles per hour. Electric skates will carry between 8 and 16 passengers (mass transit), or a single passenger vehicle.” Unlike Musk’s idea for a Hyperloop, a Loop won’t draw a vacuum. “For shorter routes, there is no technical need to eliminate air friction,” The Boring Company states.

The Doom Loop of Modern Liberalism https://briefnews.eu/the-doom-loop-of-modern-liberalism/ https://briefnews.eu/the-doom-loop-of-modern-liberalism/#respond Wed, 25 Oct 2017 00:57:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-doom-loop-of-modern-liberalism/ Here are three trends that are often discussed in isolation:

  1. The low birth rates of advanced economies

  2. The rise of a xenophobic anti-immigration politics

  3. The fragility of the welfare state

While these subjects might seem to have nothing to do with each other, in fact they crash into each other like dominos. As rich countries have fewer babies, they need immigration to grow their prime-age workforces. But as the foreign-born share of the population rises, xenophobia often festers and threatens egalitarian policymaking.

There is no reason to think that this cause-and-effect is inevitable, but the trend is clear enough that liberal policymakers need to think hard about this doom loop and how to break it. Let’s spell it out in greater detail.

First, babies. American demographers are “freaking out” as each year brings a new record low in the number of women giving birth. There are several ways to cut the fertility data—including annual births per population, or total lifetime births per woman. But every statistic tells the same story: Americans are having fewer babies than they were 50 years ago, or even 30 years ago. Japan and many European countries are dealing with their own “perfect demographic storms.”

A baby shortage sounds like an adorable misfortune of middling significance. Actually, it’s a critical problem. To expand their economies, countries need to expand their populations, particularly at a time of low productivity growth. Rich countries also need a larger and richer workforce to pay for government services to the sick, poor, and elderly. In the long term, with automation, these countries may run out of jobs. But in the short term, they are running out of people. In fact, the number of Americans between 25 and 54 years old has not grown in more than a decade.

That brings us to the second story: immigrants. As the birth rate has declined in the U.S., Canada, Western Europe, and Japan, the immigrant share of their populations has increased. This is a perfectly natural and good development. These countries have high median incomes, which are attractive to international migrants, plus their economies need new humans to sustain both GDP growth and government services.

This might sound counterintuitive to some people who’d assume that a large influx of low-skilled immigrants would be a huge drag on federal resources. In the short term, they might be. But as the children of immigrants find jobs and pay taxes, immigrant families wind up being a net contributor to the government over many decades, according to a 2016 report from the National Academy of Sciences. Beyond this economic accounting, there is a strong moral case to allow families from low-income countries move to a richer country, where they can improve their lot by an order of magnitude.

But there is a growing body of evidence that as rich majority-white countries admit more foreign-born people, far-right parties thrive by politicizing the perceived threat of the foreign-born to national culture. That concept will sound familiar to anybody who watched the 2016 U.S. presidential race, but it’s a truly global trend. A 2015 study of immigration and far-right attitudes in Austria found that the proximity of low and medium-skilled immigrants “causes Austrian voters to turn to the far right.” The effect was strongest in areas with higher unemployment, suggesting that culture and economics might reinforce each other in this equation. Last week, the far-right Austrian party triumphed in the nation’s election.

This is where the story finally connects with welfare and the future of liberalism. Rich countries tend to redistribute wealth from the rich few to the less-rich multitude. But when that multitude suddenly includes minorities who are seen as outsiders, the white majority can turn resentful and take back their egalitarian promises. Take, for example, the Twin Cities of Minnesota. They were once revered for their liberal local policies—like corporate-tax redistribution from rich areas to poor neighborhoods and low-income housing construction near business districts. But since the 1980s, as the metro area attracted more nonwhite immigrants, the metro has become deeply segregated by income and race and affordable-housing construction has backtracked. Or take Finland, that renowned “Santa Claus State” of cradle-to-grave social services, where the welfare state is being “systematically dismantled.” The far right has emerged in the last few decades, just as foreign-born population has suddenly grown.

The modern liberal vision of the U.S. is a pluralistic social democracy—the dream of a nation that uniquely promotes both diversity and equality. The marriage of those twin virtues is, perhaps, the singular American experiment—even if, outside of California, Canada seems to be doing a much better job with the execution. But an unavoidable lesson of the last few years, from both inside and outside the U.S., is that cultural heterogeneity and egalitarianism often cut against each other. Pluralist social democracy is stuck in a finger trap of math and bigotry, where to pull on one end (support for diversity) seems to naturally strain the other (support for equality).

The future of the U.S. economy depends on population growth. The future of U.S. population growth depends on immigration. But, as in so much of the world, immigration can trigger bigotry and backlash. The liberal cause requires  Americans learning to break the catch-22 of diversity and equality. If multicultural egalitarianism is the future of liberal politics, the road to the future will be bumpy.
