One of the biggest couples in Hollywood history is getting the small screen treatment.

Lily James (Downton Abbey) and Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) have been cast as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee in an eight-episode Hulu limited series about the duo’s salacious relationship in the 1990s — including the leak of their private honeymoon video and the legal battle that ensued — our sister site Deadline reports. The series is currently titled, what else, Pam & Tommy.

For those readers too young to appreciate the cultural — or at least pop-cultural — significance of this series, here’s a brief history lesson: Anderson was arguably the biggest sex icon of the ’90s, starring in decade-defining TV shows like Baywatch. And Lee was essentially rock royalty, a founding member of the legendary heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. Their high-profile relationship, which included a marriage after just a few days of officially dating, kept tabloids in business for years. (If your next question is, “What’s a tabloid?” please save it. We feel old enough as it is.)

Seth Rogen, who is producing alongside Evan Goldberg and Dylan Sellers, has also reportedly been cast as the man who stole Anderson and Lee’s honeymoon tape. I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie is also attached. Anderson and Lee are not involved with the limited series, but the former couple is reportedly aware of its production.

Are you down to revisit Anderson and Lee’s tumultuous romance? And do you think James and Stan fit in the title roles? Whatever’s on your mind, drop it in a comment below.

Everyone has it out for Sylvia! Even though The Undoing‘s ‘Who Killed Elena’ murder mystery has been solved (the husband did it!), fans still seem hell-bent on tying Lily Rabe‘s Upper East Side muckraker to the crime, even if tangentially. At the very least she was sleeping with her BFF’s hubby, they postulate. For her part, Rabe completely understands why viewers have taken a sculpting hammer to her alter ego’s reputation. The American Horror Story vet also shared with TVLine the one Sylvia-relayed conspiracy theory she simply can’t get on board with, and reveals what it was like to work so closely with Nicole Kidman’s coats.

TVLINE | We ran a poll in the days leading up to the finale asking readers who they think killed Elena. Sylvia won handily. And even though we now know Jonathan did it, I still see comments from people who believe she was somehow involved. Why do you think there has been, and continues to be, this cloud of suspicion over her?
Listen, early on Sylvia kept some information from Grace [about how she covertly represented Jonathan in his firing from the hospital]. For a lot of people, that kind of betrayal is enough for people to question that friendship and question Sylvia’s integrity. And I understand why. The rules of what we share and what we omit out of love are so subjective and complicated. I don’t think I could’ve kept that [secret] from my closest friends. And I think I would’ve felt incredibly betrayed if someone had done it to me. But I also understand why she made that choice at the time. She didn’t think it would help Grace. And she had a professional obligation; it was privileged information. But that put her on [fans’ murder] watch list.

TVLINE | Viewers had a field day reading into the nod Sylvia gave Jonathan in the courtroom when he was being arraigned in Episode 3. What did the nod mean to you?
“I’m watching you. You’re not safe with me. I don’t trust you. And I’m here with clearer eyes.” And I think there’s also a moment of, “Please let this not be the truth. You are someone that I loved” — and I do not mean that romantically. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Fans have floated some interesting conspiracy theories about Sylvia’s possible involvement in the murder, beyond the obvious one about her having an affair with Jonathan. There was one about her being in cahoots with Franklin, another about her being Jonathan’s little sister who never actually died…
That one is new to me. I knew about the affair with Jonathan. I also knew that there was a theory that Franklin and I were in cahoots — which I liked. Sylvia has known Franklin since she was born; their families summered together. And I think they had a bond and a likeness of spirit. We sort of imagined that during those summers when everyone went to bed they were probably the last two that stayed out late finishing the second bottle of wine. I love all of the theories. I love the way people are watching the show. [Pauses] Wait… that I’m Jonathan’s sister?!

TVLINE | Yes. Someone suggested that Sylvia was the younger sister he claimed died in the car accident, and she’s been keeping her real identity a secret from Grace all these years.
Hmm… I don’t know about that one. The rest of them I can [get on board with]. That one is really a stretch though. [Laughs]

TVLINE | One thing that that seemed off to me about Sylvia was how much pleasure she seemed to derive from all the drama swirling around Grace and the community.
That’s how she moves through this world. And I don’t mean this in a sort of manipulative way, but that’s how she collects information. It does light her up. She wants to be the first to know the truth — and she is the first to know in a lot of ways. She is the person a lot of people come to with information. And she doesn’t necessarily give it away, but she has to be sparkly about it otherwise people wouldn’t keep her in that position. It gives her power. I don’t think there’s any glee in the fact that Elena was killed, but [she revels] in the upset it brings to the community. Like when Elena was breastfeeding her daughter at the [auction] meeting [in the premiere]  — that was something that just doesn’t happen. And I think Sylvia loves that. She loves when things are pushed off balance. She thrives on it. And sometimes she nudges it. She’s a pot-stirrer. But that doesn’t mean that she’s sleeping with her best friend’s husband. Or killing anyone. [Laughs]

TVLINE | A lot has been made of Grace’s coats. You had the benefit of seeing many of them up close. Were they as resplendent in person as they appeared to be on TV?
Yes. And more. They were bananas. They really were like characters. They felt like fairytale coats. In the sea of New York and in the chaos of what is happening, there are these coats. They was so brilliant, particularly the [green and eggplant ones]. And they were a little off-kilter. They weren’t like the perfect, gorgeous Max Mara Upper East Side coat that I was wearing. They were a little more off-center, which was so delicious and perfect.

TVLINE | What was your working relationship with Nicole like?
I love her. She is such an incredible woman, generous friend and scene partner. What a wonderful thing it was to fall in love with her, as Sylvia. And I don’t mean romantically! People are going to come up with a whole new theory. [Laughs] I mean in the way we fall in love with friends. And the way you fall in love over and over again in our friendships and relationships. And that’s what happens here. It really could’ve gone in a different direction with [Grace and Sylvia]. But they get through it. And by the end they are linking arms. But there’s no one like Nicole. She is amazing.

Dash & Lily EP on Filming the Finale’s ‘Special’ Ending — Plus, What’s Next? https://briefnews.eu/dash-lily-ep-on-filming-the-finales-special-ending-plus-whats-next/ https://briefnews.eu/dash-lily-ep-on-filming-the-finales-special-ending-plus-whats-next/#respond Sun, 15 Nov 2020 20:56:59 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/dash-lily-ep-on-filming-the-finales-special-ending-plus-whats-next/

Warning: This article spoils the ending of Dash & Lily‘s first season. Haven’t watched? Grab a blanket and head over to Netflix. You’ll thank us later.

Between the iconic location (New York’s famed Strand Bookstore), the perfect time (New Year’s Eve at midnight) and the ludicrously romantic ambience (literal fireworks!), the final scene of Dash & Lily‘s first season finale is about as perfect as it could be. Is it any wonder why executive producer Joe Tracz says it’s his favorite page-to-screen moment in the Netflix series?

“First of all, I think anyone who loves books has that dream of getting locked in a bookstore overnight,” Tracz tells TVLine. “And to have that as the ending, with the two of them kissing at midnight on New Year’s Eve, was what we always wanted. These characters spent so much of the season apart, so we really wanted to make that moment feel sweet and special. We shot that in The Strand overnight, so we were filming it at like three o’clock in the morning. Even with how brain-fried everyone was, the chemistry was still there. I’m really proud of that scene.”

Though Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Dash & Lily, there’s certainly plenty of story to be mined from Rachel Cohn and David Levithan’s book series — and Tracz is as ready to make a second season as he is ready for Pixar to produce Collation for real.

“I would love to be able to go back and do the second book and third book,” he says. “The third book was actually written on set. David and Rachel would visit the set, and they’d be working on their chapters for the third book. I love these characters so much and the city that they live in. Knowing that there is more story to be told, those are stories I’d love to tell.”

Meanwhile, Austin Abrams (aka Dash) is playing things by ear, telling TVLine that he won’t read the other Dash & Lily books unless he knows the show is being renewed. “I’m waiting to see what’s going to happen before I fully immerse myself,” he says. “I haven’t fully gone into it because I don’t know what’s going to happen.” (Something tells us Abrams can go ahead and order a copy of that second book.)

Emily in Paris: Lily Collins Previews Her ‘Absolute Dream’ Parisian Adventure https://briefnews.eu/emily-in-paris-lily-collins-previews-her-absolute-dream-parisian-adventure/ https://briefnews.eu/emily-in-paris-lily-collins-previews-her-absolute-dream-parisian-adventure/#respond Mon, 28 Sep 2020 14:53:57 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/emily-in-paris-lily-collins-previews-her-absolute-dream-parisian-adventure/

RELATED STORIES

When it comes to dream TV roles for an actress, you could argue that it doesn’t get much better than Emily in Paris. After all, the new Netflix comedy (10 episodes premiere this Friday) hails from Sex and the City and Younger creator/hitmaker Darren Star. Plus, the series filmed on location in the French capital, and the fashion is covet-worthy.

“It definitely was an experience I never saw coming,” title star Lily Collins tells TVLine. “When I heard about the show and read the pilot, and I saw that Darren was doing it, and it was being shot entirely in Paris, and when he mentioned to me that [Sex and the City‘s] Patricia Field would most likely be doing costumes, I thought, ‘There’s just no way. There’s no way that this recipe is actually coming to fruition.’ I thought this is an absolute dream and something that I would have binged when it came out. So to be a part of it in this way is so special.”

Below, Collins shares how Emily — a Chicago marketing exec who gets a job at a boutique Parisian firm — compares to Star’s other female lead characters and previews Emily’s busy romantic life in the City of Love.

TVLINE | What qualities do you feel like Emily shares with the heroines from Darren’s other shows?
Emily is very passionate. She’s very work-driven and determined. She’s very smart, and she’s also witty, with a little bit of sass. Darren has created these characters that emulate all types of personalities, and I love that, because modern women have all these different types of personalities. Darren also makes sure that his women are fully rounded, and they’re in on the joke as much as they are the joke sometimes. Like, Emily is obviously in on the humor of the situation, but at the same time she falls into the situation of being laughed at, and she takes it in stride because she’s strong and resilient. I love the fact that she also has a bit of sass and stuff, too.

TVLINE | Is there any character from Sex in the City or Younger that you think Emily would be friends with?
I think Emily, like myself, definitely grew up loving Carrie Bradshaw. I think she was a huge Sex in the City [fan]. I think she had posters on her walls and things saved in her phone and favorite episodes of shows and movies, and I really believe that when she finds out she’s going to Paris, she does think about all these images she’s seen over the years and characters that she’s watched and loved so much, and thinks, “Wow, it’s now my chance. I get to go and experience this like those characters would have.”

Emily in Paris NetflixTVLINE | Was there a memorable experience while filming on location that really stands out for you, where something went awry or something unexpected happened?
One of the most special times of shooting was when we got to take over the Paris Opera House and shoot there at night. I was wearing this beautiful gown and this gorgeous headpiece. It was reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn, kind of a nod to her. We got to shoot all by ourselves there, and it was just so magical to be running around. When I wasn’t filming, I was just wearing, like, hotel slippers with this ball gown, taking it all in and being like, “This is a dream. What is going on?!” To be able to sit in the velvet seats and be surrounded by that history, and look up and see the gorgeous paintings on the ceiling….

At the end of one night, we een got to go down to the very, very bottom, to the basement, where there’s, like, a water reserve. I don’t know what it’s called, but it’s there’s these underwater-like caves that are beneath the Paris Opera House, and there are little fish…. We got to go climb all the way down at like four in the morning and look at that. It was really kind of amazing.

Emily in Paris GabrielTVLINE | Paris is the City of Love, and there’s certainly plenty of men in Emily’s life. What can you say about her love life and, in particular, the very charming downstairs neighbor who’s also a chef — which is like the jackpot?
It was really important for us to show her as someone who is really going on this journey in the City of Love, finding and loving herself more than anything — and through that journey, she meets all these possible suitors. Some have more comedic endings than others, and some are just fleeting moments that you think, “Oh, this is going to be a series regular”… and then all of a sudden, it ends, and you’re like, “Ooh, and then that just happened!”

Emily’s in a serious relationship when she goes to Paris, and then when she realizes that he’s just not willing to give to her what she would do for him, she chooses herself and her life and her experiences. She goes into this new Paris life as a very independent young woman who is ready to experience life and take on her job and whatever else comes her way.

That being said, as she’s finding herself and having these experiences, she starts to become open to other possibilities, and that comes with work experiences, that comes with friendships, and then, of course, that comes with romance. Because like you said, it’s Paris, and what would Paris be without a little romance? So she finds herself in these funny situations where sometimes the cultural differences or miscommunications [reveal they are] just not the right men for her. She strikes up a friendship with Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo), and she strikes up a friendship with Gabriel’s girlfriend (Camille Razat) and doesn’t realize it, and so that adds a little wrench to the situation. But I think she’s just looking for herself and what makes her feel whole, and along the way she has these experiences that I think a lot of people can relate to.

What I love about the way Emily deals with them is that she really does put herself first, and she doesn’t question who she is in determining whether or not someone’s right for her. Or if something feels inappropriate or wrong, she says it, and she moves on instead of trying to make a situation work. Because she tried to make the situation work with her boyfriend from Chicago, but realized that he was just not willing to do the same. So like I said, she put herself first. It’s really lovely to play a character that is falling in love with herself first and foremost.

Dash & Lily: Netflix Orders Holiday Rom-Com Series Based on YA Books https://briefnews.eu/dash-lily-netflix-orders-holiday-rom-com-series-based-on-ya-books/ https://briefnews.eu/dash-lily-netflix-orders-holiday-rom-com-series-based-on-ya-books/#respond Tue, 15 Oct 2019 17:17:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dash-lily-netflix-orders-holiday-rom-com-series-based-on-ya-books/

Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares is getting the TV treatment. The young-adult novels, written by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, will serve as the inspiration for Netflix’s holiday-themed series Dash & Lily, TVLine has learned. Production on the first season, which will feature eight 30-minute episodes, has already begun in New York City.

Per the series’ official description, “a whirlwind holiday romance builds as cynical Dash and optimistic Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City, finding they have more in common with each other than they would have expected.”

Austin Abrams (Euphoria) stars as Dash, “an only child born and raised in New York City. He is a smart and cynical teenager whose maturity, wisdom and sophistication are advanced for his age. Barely tolerating the forced merriment of the holidays, he’d prefer to be alone watching depressing foreign films. Dash can be quite charming, despite his sour feelings on the holiday season.”

Midori Francis (The Birch) also stars as Lily, a “smart and hopeful New York City teen with a stubborn optimism and youthful energy.  Despite her bubbly and passionate demeanor, she possesses a raw and honest vulnerability. The holidays are her favorite time of year, and this holiday season, Lily is looking for love.”

Additional series regulars include Dante Brown (Lethal Weapon) as Dash’s adventurous best friend Boomer, and Troy Iwata (New Amsterdam) as Lily’s “romantic, impulsive” older brother Langston. They’re joined by a slate of recurring cast members, including Keana Marie (Huge in France) as Dash’s ex-girlfriend Sofia, James Saito (Altered Carbon) as Lily’s overprotective grandfather Arthur, and Jodi Long (Sullivan & Son) as Lily’s “eccentric, theatrical” great aunt Mrs. Basil E.

Joe Tracz (A Series of Unfortunate Events) will serve as writer and showrunner, executive-producing alongside Shawn Levy and Josh Barry (for 21 Laps), Nick Jonas (for Image 32) and Brad Silberling, who will direct the first two episodes. Additional directors include Fred Savage (Modern Family) and Pamela Romanowsky (Riverdale). Book authors Cohn and Levithan are co-executive producers.

Dash & Lily will premiere sometime in 2020. Will you be binging? Drop a comment with your thoughts on the new series below.

Downton Abbey Movie: Why Lily James’ Rose Didn’t Return for the Royal Visit https://briefnews.eu/downton-abbey-movie-why-lily-james-rose-didnt-return-for-the-royal-visit/ https://briefnews.eu/downton-abbey-movie-why-lily-james-rose-didnt-return-for-the-royal-visit/#respond Sun, 22 Sep 2019 13:36:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/downton-abbey-movie-why-lily-james-rose-didnt-return-for-the-royal-visit/

The Downton Abbey movie may feel like a complete Crawley family reunion, but one key member is missing in action for the big-screen soiree — and fans have taken notice.

Specifically, they’re wondering what happened to Robert’s trouble-making cousin Rose Aldridge (played by Lily James), last seen celebrating Christmas at Downton in the 2015 series finale. The character made quite a splash when she joined the hit show in 2012, and even when she moved out of the abbey with her new husband, she was never far from our minds.

“Lily wanted to make a cameo, but [series creator Julian Fellowes] was like, ‘There’s not enough room,’” Allen Leech (aka Tom Branson) explained during an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live earlier this week. “It would be a bit weird if she [randomly showed up] and was like, ‘Hi, I hear the royals are here!’”

To be fair, fans probably shouldn’t be too surprised by Rose’s absence. After all, James confirmed her character’s status when the film was first greenlit in 2018, telling People, “My character Rose moved to New York, so it would be farfetched to bring her back. … I would have loved to have come back for a scene, but for a movie it can’t be like a Christmas special. It needs to be a focused storyline. There was no space for Rose.”

“Maybe [she could do it] if there’s another one,” Leech added. “We could visit her in New York!”

Mamma Mia 2: Lily James admits ‘there ARE plot holes’ in ABBA movie sequel https://briefnews.eu/mamma-mia-2-lily-james-admits-there-are-plot-holes-in-abba-movie-sequel/ https://briefnews.eu/mamma-mia-2-lily-james-admits-there-are-plot-holes-in-abba-movie-sequel/#respond Sat, 24 Nov 2018 20:43:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/mamma-mia-2-lily-james-admits-there-are-plot-holes-in-abba-movie-sequel/

The ABBA movie, which was a huge box office success over the summer, kept fans and critics entertained with its winning mix of heartfelt story and showstopping music. But there were a few elements that didn’t quite add up when compared with the first movie, released in 2008 – whether it was narrative irregularities, faults with the timeline, or Sophie having an up-to-date iPhone in what should be 2004.

Lily James has playfully acknowledged the minor gaffes in a new interview.

“It’s artistic license,” she joked to Digital Spy.

“There are holes. [Donna’s] mum was definitely dead in the first one.

“She’s like, ‘God rest her soul!’ But people come back to life for Cher.”

When the interviewer suggested some of the mistakes could just be attributed to Donna’s unreliable memory, Lily grinned: “That is exactly what it is.

“I think that’s a very good way of looking at it!”

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is out on DVD and Blu-ray on Monday, after a special ABBA-themed edition of The X Factor this weekend.

At the UK box office, it came within touching distance of the 2008 original’s record-breaking haul.

Overall, the movie is thought to have raked in $ 394 million against a $ 75 million budget.

Critics also softened to the franchise this time around; gifting it an overall 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first movie, for comparison, had an approval score of just 55%.

ITV Loose Women: Lily Allen slammed for ‘hardly speaking’ through interview https://briefnews.eu/itv-loose-women-lily-allen-slammed-for-hardly-speaking-through-interview/ https://briefnews.eu/itv-loose-women-lily-allen-slammed-for-hardly-speaking-through-interview/#respond Mon, 24 Sep 2018 16:53:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/itv-loose-women-lily-allen-slammed-for-hardly-speaking-through-interview/

Lily Allen has recently seen a lot of headlines after anecdotes from her newly released book were posted online.

The memoir, titled “My Thoughts Exactly,” details her life in the spotlight, and the troubles she has gone through during her decades in show business.

She arrived on Loose Women this morning to discuss these headlines and the subsequent stories that have followed since they appeared online.

However fans of the show quickly began pointing out she didn’t contribute much to the discussion, and stayed silent through a lot of the interview.

Writing on Twitter, one fan began: “A guest who hardly spoke. Must’ve felt like Christmas to this lot #LooseWomen.”

Another wrote: “Nadia Take a breathe and let the guests speak please #LooseWomen.” [sic]

A third added: “I wish Nadia would let someone else talk! #LooseWomen.”

“Why is @lilyallen on #LooseWomen again? she was so awkward last time, barely answering any questions,” added another.

Speaking about her book, she explained: “I’ve had a really great time, I’ve achieved so much.

“But I do feel like I’ve been misrepresented in many ways – and you can either let that sit there and become the truth, or give my own version of events which is what I’ve done.”

On the quotes that have been released about her in recent months, Lily explained: “I do write that in the introduction: This is my version of events.

“Especially where my parents are concerned or other people are concerned – it is my version.”

Lily also spoke about having her mother read the book before it was released, to which she explained she was fine.

She said: “she’s fine with it. She’s a grown up – as am I.

“She understands there was a need for me to get this out there.

“It was never presented to be ‘I’m so hard done by’ – not at all. She didn’t realise I felt like that.”

Earlier on this year Lily appeared on Loose Women and viewers lashed out once again.

The interview was branded “awkward” by fans as she spoke about her brand new album and mum guilt.

Fans wrote: “#loosewomen How awkward is this interview?,” and: “This is a horrendous interview #LooseWomen.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
