Vitamin B12 becomes pernicious if left to its own devices for too long, so addressing warning signs is of great importance. Failure to do so may result in life-altering complications such as neurological damage and death.

Iger.

  • Former Disney CEO Bob Iger says that he doesn't think all streaming services will survive.
  • But he is impressed by a select few, including, obviously, Disney+.
  • He also called out Netflix, Prime Video, and Apple TV+.

Bob Iger is optimistic about a handful of streaming services — but not all of them.

"I don't think they'll all make it," Iger said during an interview at Vox's annual Code Conference on Wednesday. "There will be haves and have nots."

The former Disney CEO who helped launch the Disney+ streaming service toward the end of his tenure declined to specify which he thinks are in trouble, but he called out a select few that impress him. Obviously, Disney+ is one of those; he said he's "clearly a big believer" in the service's longevity.

Disney+ has 152 million subscribers after just two-and-a-half years as of the end of Q2.

Netflix is another, despite the streaming giant's recent woes. It's lost subscribers for two quarters in a row this year, a first for the company, and has conducted massive layoffs.

But it's still the leading streaming service with over 220 million subscribers worldwide, and is taking steps to address slowing growth with plans to introduce an ad-supported plan early next year.

"I believe that Netflix is going to continue to thrive," Iger said. "They have some issues now, but they're not going away."

He also acknowledged that tech giants Amazon and Apple made great strides in streaming with Prime Video and Apple TV+, respectively, saying that they'll both "continue to grow" (Neither company breaks out subscriber numbers).

"They're not primary businesses for them and they're measured, probably, by different standards in terms of bottom line, and they serve other purposes in those companies," Iger said.

"But they're not going to stand pat. They're going to continue to grow and they'll grow well. They've got deep pockets. They've got great access to consumers. They have strong technology platforms. They've proven they know how to do it. So they stay."

Skin cancer patients lacking a certain vitamin less likely to survive disease – study https://briefnews.eu/skin-cancer-patients-lacking-a-certain-vitamin-less-likely-to-survive-disease-study/ https://briefnews.eu/skin-cancer-patients-lacking-a-certain-vitamin-less-likely-to-survive-disease-study/#respond Wed, 07 Sep 2022 17:01:27 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/skin-cancer-patients-lacking-a-certain-vitamin-less-likely-to-survive-disease-study/

MELANOMA skin cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK, with around 16,700 new cases diagnosed every year. It is usually caused by sunlight damaging the DNA in your skin. While there are certain measures you can take to prevent developing the disease in the first place a new study has shown a certain vitamin supplement could also improve your chances of surviving the cancer.

Michael Cohen believes Trump is likely keeping copies of top-secret documents at his children’s homes, Bedminster, and Trump Tower https://briefnews.eu/michael-cohen-believes-trump-is-likely-keeping-copies-of-top-secret-documents-at-his-childrens-homes-bedminster-and-trump-tower/ https://briefnews.eu/michael-cohen-believes-trump-is-likely-keeping-copies-of-top-secret-documents-at-his-childrens-homes-bedminster-and-trump-tower/#respond Thu, 01 Sep 2022 05:24:20 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/michael-cohen-believes-trump-is-likely-keeping-copies-of-top-secret-documents-at-his-childrens-homes-bedminster-and-trump-tower/ Trump
Former President Donald Trump is facing a DOJ investigation into whether he mishandled top-secret documents.

  • Michael Cohen thinks Trump could be have copies of the top-secret files found at Mar-a-Lago.
  • Cohen said Trump might have stashed the documents at his homes in Bedminster and New York.
  • Cohen also suggested that these files might also be in the homes of Trump's children.

Michael Cohen, who was once former President Donald Trump's lawyer, believes Trump likely has copies of the classified documents the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago stashed in other locations.

Cohen was reacting on Twitter to an article from The Washington Post on the Department of Justice's recent court filing, in which the DOJ suggested that Trump's team may have concealed or moved top-secret files when officials were probing the matter.

"I believe Trump has copies, potentially other documents as well, at other locations including his children's homes, Weisselberg's florida home, Bedminster, NJ golf course, Fifth Avenue apartment, etc…" Cohen tweeted.

Cohen was referring to Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization's former CFO, who in August admitted to orchestrating a payroll tax-dodge scheme at the organization.

During its search of Mar-a-Lago on August 8, the FBI seized 11 sets of classified documents, including some marked "top secret" and files that may have concerned nuclear weapons. According to the warrant for the search, the DOJ is looking into whether Trump broke any of three federal laws — including the Espionage Act — by keeping the documents at his Florida residence.

This week, the DOJ also released a photograph from their search of Mar-a-Lago, which showed several folders bearing the word "top secret" strewn across the floor.

It is unclear if the former president ever made copies of these documents, or if these copies are being kept at the former president's other homes. A representative at Trump's post-presidential press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.

Cohen was Trump's lawyer and close confidante for a decade. In 2018, he was the subject of a search of his home and office, as part of a Trump-related investigation into illegal hush-money payments to adult-film star Stormy Daniels.

Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to felonies including tax evasion, campaign finance violations, and bank fraud. He was sentenced in December 2018 to three years in prison and was disbarred in February 2019 by the New York Supreme Court.

For his part, Cohen has weighed in on many aspects of the Mar-a-Lago raid. He celebrated the news of the raid, saying that Trump was finally being "held accountable."

He later weighed in on how Trump was likely nervous about a potential mole at Mar-a-Lago and said he would not be surprised if one of Trump's children or his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was an FBI informant.

Cohen has also posited that Trump may attempt to find a scapegoat for any offenses uncovered by the Mar-a-Lago raid, such as his former lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. He also speculated that Trump likely kept the classified documents as a "bargaining chip," so he could threaten the release of classified information to America's adversaries as a "get-out-of-jail-free card."

The Chase’s Paul Sinha ‘likely’ to have COVID-19 as he admits ‘social-distancing too late’ https://briefnews.eu/the-chases-paul-sinha-likely-to-have-covid-19-as-he-admits-social-distancing-too-late/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chases-paul-sinha-likely-to-have-covid-19-as-he-admits-social-distancing-too-late/#respond Mon, 23 Mar 2020 03:32:29 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-chases-paul-sinha-likely-to-have-covid-19-as-he-admits-social-distancing-too-late/

The Chase star Paul Sinha broke the news on social media that he thinks he’s contracted coronavirus. The Sinnerman, as he’s know on the show, took to Twitter to admit to his fans he had made a grave error.

“Although I cant be sure and I can’t be tested, it seems likely I have coronavirus,” he said.

“Started social distancing a few days too late. Anyone upsets me; I’ll be around to sneeze in your home.”

Fans raced to the chasers comments section to wish him a speedy recovery.

One said: “Stay safe dude. When I get onto The Chase you’re the one I want to go up against!”

“Get well soon bud. Thinking of you,” another wrote.

A third commented: “Stay strong Paul and keep safe. Sending you love and our prayers are with you.”

“All the best for a speedy recovery. Take care,” a fourth sent their wishes.

A fifth knew all to well what he was going through: “I’m just recovering from suspected CV too. I hope you’re soon out the other side, sending love and strength and get those paracetamols down you as often as you can remember.”

Others laughed at his joke: “Wishing you all the best Paul. In times like these we definitely need people like you to make us laugh.

Paul joins a growing list of celebs who have come down with the viral illness (or symptoms off the illness) that’s sweeping its way around the UK faster than expected.

Idris Elba and Tom Hanks were two of the first celebrities to come forward about their latest health diagnosis, and are now in quarantine while they recover.

Mr Johnson’s pleas comes after the sunny weekend brought people out in hundreds, as they visited seaside towns and parks across the country, making the most of the nice weather.

But Number 10 warned of the risks people who aren’t listening to strict advice, can impose on others.

“Don’t think fresh air in itself automatically provides some immunity,” Mr Johnson said, adding that even if people think they are invulnerable, “there are plenty of people you could infect”.

“Take this advice seriously, follow it, because it’s absolutely crucial.”

“My message is you’ve got to do this in line with the advice, you’ve got to follow the social distancing rule – keep 2m apart.”

He added: “I don’t think you need to use your imagination very much to see where we might have to go, and we will think about this very, very actively in the next 24 hours.

“It’s so important that that pleasure and that ability is preserved but it can only really be preserved if everybody acts responsibly and conforms with those principles of staying apart from one another and social distancing.

“If we can’t do that then, yup, I’m afraid we’re going to have to bring forward tougher measures.”

Secrets of The Likely Lads revealed: How creators convinced reluctant star to make show https://briefnews.eu/secrets-of-the-likely-lads-revealed-how-creators-convinced-reluctant-star-to-make-show/ https://briefnews.eu/secrets-of-the-likely-lads-revealed-how-creators-convinced-reluctant-star-to-make-show/#respond Sat, 14 Sep 2019 01:59:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/secrets-of-the-likely-lads-revealed-how-creators-convinced-reluctant-star-to-make-show/

We have been storytellers all our adult lives, ever since we first scribbled lines together for a sketch in the early Sixties in an Earls Court pub. It began a career that, amazingly, has lasted longer than Rodgers and Hammerstein, Gilbert and Sullivan, Laurel and Hardy and Morecambe and Wise. The first characters we created were Bob and Terry, factory hands from the North-east, who would become The Likely Lads. The Sixties hadn’t really kicked in when we met. Mini Mokes, miniskirts, sexual liberation and psychedelia – that all came later. Our London was smoke-filled pubs, coffee houses, Wimpy Bars and cheap Chinese restaurants. The whole country was stable, predictable, deferential and dull. It was the England the Kinks missed so much in many of their songs – Sunday roasts, football matches, allotments and racing pigeons. It was a far cry from “swinging London”. But you could be young and broke and live within half a mile of Buckingham Palace.

The BBC’s in-house drama club, the Ariel Players, put on a Christmas revue so, inspired by the movie Saturday Night And Sunday Morning, we wrote a comedy sketch for them, cutting between two boys called Bob and Terry and the girls they’d just had a date with, having a post-mortem on the evening they’d spent together.

It made people laugh and, after that, we made a commitment to write at least one night a week.

We wrote a play for television and called it The One Most Likely. It got turned down – but very nicely. Peter Willes, then head of Yorkshire Television, said we had a natural ear for dialogue.

But our big break came two years later when Dick got on to a directing course. At the end he was given a studio for a day, a £100 budget and encouraged to “make something”. Remembering the sketch we’d written for that revue, we expanded it to 20 minutes or so and made it with real actors on real sets.

We thought it had sunk without trace. But the timing was in our favour. BBC Two was about to be launched and slots needed filling. Michael Peacock, head of the new channel, saw the test piece and we were summoned to a meeting.

After the opening exchanges he asked us the key question: “Do you see it as a series?” The thought had never crossed our minds but without hesitation we said “absolutely”.

James Bolam and Rodney Bewes

Somehow we got six scripts written. We agreed later we owed a debt to children’s author Richmal Crompton because we had both been avid readers of her Just William books as kids.

She was great with plots and one of the lessons we learned was that William didn’t always have to win; a satisfying ending could go either way. We stole from her shamelessly. One of our early plots featured a mobile medical unit checking people for tuberculosis.

Terry was trying to pull the radiologist but as he left the house he had a row with his sister, Audrey, and said: “You won’t half be sorry if I’ve got a spot on the lung!” That was pure Just William.

We wrote the last script of the series in two days. We’ve always found it’s a good sign if a script comes quickly. If we struggle with one it’s usually because there’s something not quite right with it.

When choosing actors, we eliminated those who looked as if they could only be serious, romantic or menacing. This brought us to James Bolam, who had been in The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner, and to Rodney Bewes, who had played Arthur Crabtree in Billy Liar.

We wanted to capture the gritty reality of those movies and transfer it to the small screen. We wanted the factory floor and houses with outside lavatories. These actors checked those boxes: Rodney was from Bingley in Yorkshire, Jimmy from Sunderland.

The chemistry between Jimmy, as the more acerbic, working-class-and-proud-of-it Terry, and Rodney, as the more reflective Bob with dreams-above-his-station, seemed to work right away when rehearsals began.

Jimmy treated his work with great seriousness. He had a great respect for “the text”. He was fiercely self-critical, especially of anything too obvious, which he dismissed derisively as “face-acting”.

When the first episode was transmitted only a handful of households had BBC Two.

What pushed us into orbit was when we were asked to write a sketch for inclusion in Christmas Night With The Stars, seen by 19 million people as they digested their turkey and mince pies. They liked it and the series was repeated on BBC One.

Suddenly, Jimmy and Rodney were recognised on the street. Rodney enjoyed this taste of fame. Jimmy did not.

This was a typical exchange if a friendly fan called out to him: “Hey, Terry, where’s your mate?” “He’s dead!” he’d reply.

We did another two series and decided that enough was enough. We wrote an episode called Goodbye To All That in which Bob decides to broaden his horizons and join the Army, much to Terry’s scorn.

After two weeks, Terry realises he misses his mate and signs on himself. When he gets off the train to report for duty, he finds Bob is going home because of flat feet.

Jimmy and Rodney loved the way we had written them out of our lives. We said goodbye to each other and went our separate ways.

Six years later, we came back from separate summer holidays and found similar thoughts had been bubbling through our brains: what had happened to Bob and Terry? After all, the changes in a young man’s life between 19 and 25 are profound, more often than not including marriage. Moreover, Terry was due to come out of the Army. What would he find in his hometown when he returned?

We were fairly sure we could talk Rodney round. Jimmy was another matter. We took him to an Italian restaurant on the Kings Road. After the preamble, we put our proposal on the table.

His mouth tightened. “Not with Rodney Bewes, no.” It wasn’t a promising beginning. We poured more red wine and started to tell him what had happened to Terry Collier since we had last seen him.

We told him about coming home just in time for Bob’s wedding to Thelma Chambers and his own failed marriage to a German girl, not to be revealed until episode three. He started to laugh. He might not have seen “the text” yet, but Jimmy knew a good plot when he heard one. By the time we got to the sambuca, he was hooked.

They had very different personalities. Tears came easily to Rodney. Jimmy didn’t have an ounce of sentimentality. Unsurprisingly they had flare-ups.

But the general view about the new colour series, Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads?, was that it was better than the old one.

It also reflected the social changes that Britain was going through at the time. So the critics said anyway. Our primary concern was still making people laugh.

Every line was timed to perfection. Every pause was the right length. Every laugh came exactly where it should. When one recording was over, Jimmy said quietly: “Well done, Rod.” They may not have complimented each other often but they certainly complemented each other.

We look back on those first shows in black and white with affection and gratitude. Together they gave us our first taste of success. We thought we’d found a formula: write a series, cast it and wait for the accolades.

If only it would always be that easy.

Fifty Shades: Why Jamie Dornan likely made ‘a fortune’ from movies with Dakota Johnson https://briefnews.eu/fifty-shades-why-jamie-dornan-likely-made-a-fortune-from-movies-with-dakota-johnson/ https://briefnews.eu/fifty-shades-why-jamie-dornan-likely-made-a-fortune-from-movies-with-dakota-johnson/#respond Sat, 16 Mar 2019 17:51:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fifty-shades-why-jamie-dornan-likely-made-a-fortune-from-movies-with-dakota-johnson/

Charlie Hunnam was originally set to play Christian Grey in the erotic trilogy, before he bowed out of the role due to an overloaded schedule. But in a new interview, he’s revealed that the money he would have made from taking the role alongside Dakota Johnson would have been “so much”. That job – and, presumably, that salary – ultimately went to Dornan.

Hunnam told CinemaBlend last year: “Well, I’d be a lot wealthier [if I kept the role]. I’d be a lot wealthier.

“I was gonna get paid a fortune. So much.”

Now, in a more recent interview with Newsweek, he has reflected on the whole situation – admitting he hasn’t seen any of those films.

“I don’t see myself in that role at all because it would have been totally different,” he said.

“I think what acting is, is trying to create a character and you put half of yourself into it, [a] bit more than half.

“So that’s Jamie Dornan’s character, you know? I haven’t seen them but I’m sure he did an excellent job.”

He elaborated: “I started to realise that my, my vision of who that guy was, was not everybody else’s vision.

“You can’t get into a film, let alone three films, totally at odds with the rest of the filmmaking community or the creative community involved in something because it’s just going to be [a] miserable experience.

“It was better for me just to extract myself from the process, but no regrets.”

Hunnam has since gone on to star in the likes of Triple Frontier, Papillon alongside Rami Malek and Crimson Peak.

Dornan, meanwhile, has recently appeared in Robin Hood and A Private War.

His co-star Johnson has starred in the likes of Suspiria and Bad Times At The El Royale.

Jets lose Byfuglien likely through January with lower-body injury https://briefnews.eu/jets-lose-byfuglien-likely-through-january-with-lower-body-injury/ https://briefnews.eu/jets-lose-byfuglien-likely-through-january-with-lower-body-injury/#respond Mon, 31 Dec 2018 06:24:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jets-lose-byfuglien-likely-through-january-with-lower-body-injury/

The NHL Western Conference-leading Winnipeg Jets will be minus top-scoring defenceman Dustin Byfuglien for at least a month. The good news is he doesn't need surgery.

Byfuglien exited Saturday's 3-1 loss to Minnesota midway through the third period with an apparent left leg injury after colliding awkwardly with Wild forward Luke Kunin.

Watch Byfuglien's collision with Kunin:

The Jets top-scoring defenceman injured his left leg after colliding with Wild forward Luke Kunin in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Minnesota. 0:26
Byfuglien was helped off the ice in Winnipeg by teammates and a trainer and needed assistance down the tunnel before he was examined further.

Jets head coach Paul Maurice wouldn't specify if the injury was to Byfuglien's ankle or knee.

The 33-year-old Byfuglien, who leads all Winnipeg blue-liners with 29 points on four goals and 25 assists, could return after the Jan. 25-26 NHL all-star break.

"That would be the very earliest part of the window. … I don't know what it's going to look like in two to three weeks," Maurice said.

“Obviously it’s tough to lose [Byfuglien] at any time,” Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey told reporters. “He’s having an unbelievable season; he might be playing the best hockey he ever has for us and in the NHL.”

The 24-12-2 Jets have played without Byfuglien for stretches before, with the veteran missing two games with an upper-body injury in October and four a month ago with a concussion.

Defenceman Joe Morrow will suit up for the first tie since Nov. 27 on Monday at Edmonton after sitting out as a healthy scratch for seven consecutive games and eight more while injured.

Top defence prospect Sami Niku might also be recalled from the Manitoba Moose, the Jets' American Hockey League affiliate. The 22-year-old native of Finland played five games for Winnipeg in November but failed to collect a point.

Fellow rearguard Tyler Myers had a maintenance day Sunday and missed practice but is expected to play Monday.

Steele dossier’s main claims ‘likely false,’ admits journalist who helped launch Russiagate https://briefnews.eu/steele-dossiers-main-claims-likely-false-admits-journalist-who-helped-launch-russiagate/ https://briefnews.eu/steele-dossiers-main-claims-likely-false-admits-journalist-who-helped-launch-russiagate/#respond Tue, 18 Dec 2018 10:25:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/steele-dossiers-main-claims-likely-false-admits-journalist-who-helped-launch-russiagate/ The explosive dossier that fueled Russiagate and served as justification for snooping on a top Trump aide contains numerous claims that are “likely false,” according to one of the first journalists to report on the document.

Michael Isikoff, whose report on alleged Trump-Russia links was cited extensively by the FBI to secure a warrant to spy on Trump adviser Carter Page, has conceded that many of the dossier’s most scandalous allegations have yet to be supported by real evidence.

“When you actually get into the details of the Steele dossier, the specific allegations, we have not seen the evidence to support them, and, in fact, there’s good grounds to think that some of the more sensational allegations will never be proven and are likely false,” Isikoff, who writes for Yahoo News, said in an interview.

Most notably, the dossier alleges that Donald Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, traveled to Prague to help coordinate “collusion” with the Russians. As Isikoff pointed out, Cohen vehemently denied the allegation in congressional testimony – and his recent plea deal for unrelated, non-collusion crimes signals that investigators think the ex-attorney is telling the truth.

“Why wasn’t [Cohen] charged with lying about it? That would have been as serious a lie as the lie he told about the Trump Tower Moscow project,” Isikoff argued. “All the signs to me are that Mueller is reaching his end game, and we may see less than many people want him to find.”

Isikoff also expressed doubts about the existence of the so-called “pee tape” which Russia is purportedly using to blackmail Trump – perhaps the most well-known and salacious claim made in the dossier. However, Isikoff said he still believes that Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

The dossier was authored by ex-spy Christopher Steele, who had been commissioned by Fusion GPS, a firm under contract with the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.

Isikoff’s skepticism is particularly noteworthy because he parroted many of Steele’s claims in a Sept. 23, 2016 article which the FBI cited in four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to spy on Trump aide Carter Page. The FBI repeatedly claimed that it “did not believe” that Steele was the direct source for Isikoff’s article – but it was later revealed that the ex-spy had in fact briefed the reporter at the direction of Fusion GPS.
