LEWIS CAPALDI feared he was “dying”, thinking he had a degenerative disease, but his health diagnosis was much more “eye-opening” than that – he’s got Tourette’s syndrome.

John Lewis Christmas advert 2020: Watch the full John Lewis Christmas advert HERE https://briefnews.eu/john-lewis-christmas-advert-2020-watch-the-full-john-lewis-christmas-advert-here/ https://briefnews.eu/john-lewis-christmas-advert-2020-watch-the-full-john-lewis-christmas-advert-here/#respond Fri, 13 Nov 2020 01:04:43 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/john-lewis-christmas-advert-2020-watch-the-full-john-lewis-christmas-advert-here/

The campaign, which is called Give A Little Love, is hoped to bring some reassurance for families who a worried they will struggle over Christmas.

This year’s advert will look slightly different to the adverts from previous year’s which have included adorable animated characters such as Edgar the excitable dragon, Moz the Monster and Monty the Penguin.

Instead the advert starts with a young boy whose football has become stuck in a tree. But with a small act of kindness, the problem is solved.

The video then continues to show a series of acts of kindness, varying from live action clips to animated scenes.

There will be a total of nine scenes created by eight different artists, and they will all celebrate the hardworking creative industries which have been adversely hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

This year the advert, for the first time, includes a specially commissioned song called A Little Love, which was written and recorded by soul singer Celeste.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

From Amazon’s singing boxes to the stars of Disney’s Frozen starring in Iceland’s Christmas advert offering, last year’s clips were full of surprises. John Lewis brought you Excitable Edgar, while Marks and Spencer’s featured several famous faces, devouring their tasty food. While the big day is still a few weeks away, the ads have slowly been appearing on television screens up and down the country. Here are the best ones of 2020, so far.

Argos – The wonderful world of magic and the return of the “Book of Dreams”.

This year, the battle for the best advertisement begins with Argos.

The retail giant has gone back to basics, spreading the joy of classic Christmas traditions, set to the tune of  Gary Barlow’s brand new single Incredible.

The heart-warming story shows two sisters, Lucy and Daisy, circling a magic trick set in the Argos Christmas gift guide – or “Book of Dreams” – which then sees the children transform into mini magicians as they begin to perform for their parents.

The performance includes a festively adorned dachshund and sees the audience pause for breath before the girls complete their trick, to everyone’s delight.

Rob Quartermain, Senior Campaign Manager for Argos, said: “This Christmas families are looking for escapism after what has been a challenging year for so many. Our magic show highlights how a simple gift can make a special memory.

“As the tricks get bigger, Lucy and Daisy dream bigger and, as if by magic, we see more of their family enjoy the show with them.

“Argos is one of the UK’s biggest online retailers but the magical feeling of circling present ideas in the Christmas Gift Guide is something our customers love and sets us apart from everyone else.

“Whether you’re looking for inspiration on your mobile, tablet or in our “Book of Dreams”, Argos is the place that provides much needed Christmas magic.”

black-ish Spinoff old-ish in the Works With Laurence Fishburne, Jenifer Lewis https://briefnews.eu/black-ish-spinoff-old-ish-in-the-works-with-laurence-fishburne-jenifer-lewis/ https://briefnews.eu/black-ish-spinoff-old-ish-in-the-works-with-laurence-fishburne-jenifer-lewis/#respond Wed, 09 Sep 2020 00:02:34 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/black-ish-spinoff-old-ish-in-the-works-with-laurence-fishburne-jenifer-lewis/

ABC is adding another entry to the expanding black-ish franchise: Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis are set to reprise their roles in a new spinoff titled old-ish, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series, which is currently in development at the Alphabet network, will be penned by black-ish creator Kenya Barris, who will also serve as an executive producer. It centers on Fishburne’s Earl and Lewis’ Ruby — the parents of Anthony Anderson’s black-ish character Dre — as they give love a second chance. “When they move to a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of L.A., they’ll meet characters who represent the old and new faces of the community as they try to make it work as a married couple. Again.”

Fishburne and Lewis have played Earl and Ruby on black-ish since the ABC comedy’s freshman season back in 2014. Fishburne has been recurring as Earl (aka Pops) for all six seasons, while Lewis has been a series regular since Season 2 after recurring during the first season.

If it makes it on the air, old-ish would be the third spinoff to spring from black-ish. grown-ish, starring Yara Shahidi as Dre’s daughter Zoey, is about to enter its fourth season on Freeform, and mixed-ish — a flashback to the ’80s childhood of Tracee Ellis Ross’ Bow — debuted on ABC last fall and is slated to return for a second season.

Martin Lewis walks off GMB after he’s cut off by Adil Ray: ‘Programme’s over!’ https://briefnews.eu/martin-lewis-walks-off-gmb-after-hes-cut-off-by-adil-ray-programmes-over/ https://briefnews.eu/martin-lewis-walks-off-gmb-after-hes-cut-off-by-adil-ray-programmes-over/#respond Thu, 23 Jul 2020 10:57:45 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/martin-lewis-walks-off-gmb-after-hes-cut-off-by-adil-ray-programmes-over/

Good Morning Britain saw Ranvir Singh and Adil Ray joined by a host of guests on Thursday morning’s programme and today, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis, dished out more tips and tricks to ITV viewers to help them keep their finances on track. However, after being cut off by Adil, Martin got out his chair and walked away from the camera.

Martin regularly appears on shows from the broadcaster, revealing some fantastic money hacks for viewers to try out.

Today, he featured on GMB and was giving some much-needed advice to those who are struggling with the financial impacts of the coronavirus.

However, as the guest’s segment neared its end, Martin was interrupted by host Adil who informed him he would have to “leave it there”.

This prompted Martin to get out of his chair and walk off-screen, after remarking to the hosts: “Zip, go, programme’s over, bye-bye!”

It came after Ranvir asked the guest if he had some summer savings, with Martin responding: “Yeah I’ve got loads, here’s the most important one…

“If you’ve been working from home and you’ve had extra expenses such as heating and electricity, you are allowed to claim. You can get £6 of your salary a month tax-free.

“It’s called working from home basis and you don’t need to provide receipts as long as you’re not claiming more than £6 a month.”

Advising viewers how they could complete this, he explained: “You can fill in the P87 form, there’s more help available online so do read it because it’s a bit more complex.”

Loose Women host Christine has been stepping into Lorraine Kelly’s shoes this week while the regular presenter takes some time away for the summer.

The Money Saving Expert had given further advice earlier on in his slot, advising those watching to consider saving with NS&I rather than high-street banks.

He said: “It has the top-three easy access accounts, now, millions of people have savings accounts in high street banks that are paying, well nothing, 0.01%, check yours now, you’re almost certainly getting very, very little, and they could put it in National Savings.”

“It has a number of advantages, the first of all is that it’s totally safe, because, rather than other banks, where it’s up to £85,000, per person, per institution, protected in national savings, the whole thing is protected.

“Even if you were lucky enough to have millions in it, it is completely backed by the government,” Martin reassured viewers.

Martin’s walk-off wasn’t the only mishap to happen on the programme today as earlier on in the show, veteran presenter Andi Peters suffered an embarrassing fall during his segment.

The host was promoting GMB’s latest competition, explaining to viewers how they could be in with a chance of winning a huge sum of money.

However, while trying to navigate moving around a boat on the River Thames, Andi tripped over on the deck, much to the amusement of his co-hosts in the studio.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.

Charlie Stayt clashes with Brandon Lewis in BAME infection row: ‘Give me one measure?’ https://briefnews.eu/charlie-stayt-clashes-with-brandon-lewis-in-bame-infection-row-give-me-one-measure/ https://briefnews.eu/charlie-stayt-clashes-with-brandon-lewis-in-bame-infection-row-give-me-one-measure/#respond Thu, 04 Jun 2020 07:41:50 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/charlie-stayt-clashes-with-brandon-lewis-in-bame-infection-row-give-me-one-measure/

Lewis began to respond: “Well, first of all, all the measures-“

But Stayt was quick to cut him off and demand a more direct answer.

He yelled once again: “No, has anything been done since that report?”

Again, Lewis replied: “In terms of that specific report, the minister for equalities, is taking forward a piece of work right now with public health England and health officials to look at what more we can do to give a specific benefit for people who are affected in that outline of the BAME report.”

Phillip Schofield speechless as Martin Lewis takes swipe at This Morning host https://briefnews.eu/phillip-schofield-speechless-as-martin-lewis-takes-swipe-at-this-morning-host/ https://briefnews.eu/phillip-schofield-speechless-as-martin-lewis-takes-swipe-at-this-morning-host/#respond Mon, 01 Jun 2020 16:04:18 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/phillip-schofield-speechless-as-martin-lewis-takes-swipe-at-this-morning-host/

Phillip Schofield, 59, was on hand to present the first This Morning of the week, having just had a week off to coincide with what would have been the half-term break for schools. Joining him in the studio was co-host Holly Willoughby, 39, with the pair speaking with Martin Lewis, 48, via video link to adhere to social distancing measures. They spoke with him several times throughout the show to get his advice on ITV viewers’ money woes. However, in doing so, he took a swipe at his colleague’s age which left the presenter lost for words.

The beginnings of the conversations were to address viewers concerns about mortgage and rent payments during the coronavirus crisis.

Giving some advice to those who have been using these measures, the financial advisor said: “They will be able to track if you’ve had a payment holiday.

“We don’t quite know the impact, but it is likely to have at least a minor, detrimental effect in some cases of you getting a mortgage or you getting other credit in future.”

Martin urged those watching at home only to take one if they really need to before he was asked a question by Holly, to which he gave a response which left Phillip speechless.

“Should people be looking to reduce their mortgage repayments? Cutting the cost of their mortgage?” Holly asked.

Martin replied: “That’s the no-brainer right now. UK interest rates are at their lowest for 325 years.

“Even Phil doesn’t remember that far back,” he said as he took his swipe at the presenter, which left him laughing rather than coming back with a reply.

The financial advisor then said: “I’m going to carry on so you can’t interrupt me with a comeback,” as his colleague was utterly stumped by the age quip.

“Our editor’s just shouted out ‘common,’” the presenter told viewers, with Holly adding: “Somebody just said something outrageous in my ear.”

The host burst into hysterics as Phillip remarked: “Good heavens,” but his colleague said she understood the backlash.

“It’s supposed to dilute the wine, but I like really cold white or rosé wine,” she added, to which her co-host asked: “Well, you know what you do?”

“Drink it quicker,” she replied, and viewers also shared their thoughts on social media after the presenter’s confession.

One wrote on Twitter: “Of course! it’s luscious sat in the sun drinking rosé with a Big ice cube in it!”

Another added on the micro-blogging platform: “I’m with Holly I cannot drink it without ice & must be a large wine glass.”

Whilst a third commented: “I normally put the wine in the freezer for 3-4 hrs before serving, it’s ice-cold and easier to drink.”

Rounding off the conversation, Phillip suggested his co-host freeze grapes and then put them into her beverage.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.

Martin Lewis cut off by Piers Morgan before vital advice on how to save money https://briefnews.eu/martin-lewis-cut-off-by-piers-morgan-before-vital-advice-on-how-to-save-money/ https://briefnews.eu/martin-lewis-cut-off-by-piers-morgan-before-vital-advice-on-how-to-save-money/#respond Wed, 25 Mar 2020 19:09:41 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/martin-lewis-cut-off-by-piers-morgan-before-vital-advice-on-how-to-save-money/

Seen sitting and ready to give advice, the money-saving expert was told they would return to him once the presenters had finished questioning the Housing Secretary.

However, it was some time before Martin was seen back on screen, with Lorraine Kelly, 60, replacing Ranvir before they spoke with the financial advisor again.

One of the main pieces of advice the reporter wanted to stress was for those who were self-employed not to make any rash decision.

With Chancellor Rishi Sunak, 39, recently telling freelancers a package is being crafted to help them with their finances, Martin reiterated this advice.

“Oh that’s a good game,” Holly remarked to which Phillip echoed: “Wow that is a good game! Look in your cupboard now.”

Later on, Martin joined Phillip and Holly on the sofa as the This Morning hosts read out messages from viewers who had shared what products they had found.

Phillip revealed: “Annie says, ‘When my sister moved house, she had a tin of soup in her cupboard that had a price tag of seven and a half pence.’”

Holly added: “Gillian says, ‘I’ve got a tin of rice from 1974’, Wow! ‘I bought it as a student probably because it was the first time I’d seen a man on a label, it’s never been opened.’”
