Netflix‘s adaptation of The Umbrella Academy comics have proven a hit and the second season is out now. The series has attracted a lot of new attention and there are plenty of fans watching the first season. Fans are keen to find out who plays Leonard Peabody in the series, and Express.co.uk has everything you need to know.

Who plays Leonard in The Umbrella Academy?

Leonard Peabody is introduced at the start of season one and he introduces himself as one of Vanya’s (played by Ellen Page) new violin students.

He seems to take a liking to her and the pair form a romantic relationship, but he is not the man Vanya thinks he is.

Leonard is played by American actor John Magaro, who was born in Ohio and has been active as an actor since 2005.

He is known for his roles in Not Fade Away, The Big Short and Orange Is the New Black.

The 37-year-old made his Broadway debut in The Front Page in 2016, playing the role of Earl Williams.

His father is of Italian descent and both of his parents were teachers.

He began taking part in local theatre classes while he was at school, and as a child, he appeared in a few TV commercials.

After school, he studied theatre at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, and his first role was in the film Prisoners of War in 2005.

His role as Leonard Peabody in The Umbrella Academy in 2019 was his first main role in a TV series.

Fans would have recognised him from his role as Vince Muccio in the Netflix hit, Orange Is the New Black.

Leonard had been born Harold Jenkins – a child who was born on the same day as the Hargreeves family.

He believed he had special powers like them, but he was ridiculed when he tried to join The Umbrella Academy.

In an act of vengeance, he stole a notebook containing secrets about Vanya’s hidden powers, and he used her in order to release her hidden abilities.

Vanya ended up getting her revenge on him after she found out the truth about what he had done, and she later killed him.

In an interview, he said he always knew the “basics” of his character Leonard.

He said: “I kind of always had an idea of where he was going, and we were trying to write that line of this guy is kind of a weirdo.

“Ellen’s character is so vulnerable, she has never had anyone give her any attention at all – so I get why some people were like ‘I get why she’s hanging around him.

“He’s a total gas lighter, he’s a total manipulator, it’s a very abusive relationship.”

He said the biggest surprise was reading the information about Leonard’s childhood as Harold Jenkins.

He said: “We never talked about that… seeing that stuff happen, that was a real surprise to me.”

The Umbrella Academy is available to watch on Netflix now.

The Good Doctor: Robert Sean Leonard to Guest-Star in Season 3, Reuniting With House Creator — Get First Look https://briefnews.eu/the-good-doctor-robert-sean-leonard-to-guest-star-in-season-3-reuniting-with-house-creator-get-first-look/ https://briefnews.eu/the-good-doctor-robert-sean-leonard-to-guest-star-in-season-3-reuniting-with-house-creator-get-first-look/#respond Wed, 11 Sep 2019 10:21:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-good-doctor-robert-sean-leonard-to-guest-star-in-season-3-reuniting-with-house-creator-get-first-look/ Robert Sean Leonard is scrubbing in for another TV medical drama — only this time as a patient. The actor will guest-star on Season 3 of The Good Doctor, reuniting him with House creator and executive producer David Shore, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Leonard will appear in the season’s third episode (airing Monday, Oct. 7) as Shamus O’Malley, an avid sports fisherman. In the Claire-centric installment, the third-year resident “faces complications at home and at work as she prepares to lead her first surgery,” while the rest of Melendez’s team tends to Shamus. He is rushed to the hospital following a fishing accident that challenges them “as they look to treat his injuries without damaging his prize catch,” according the official logline — and as seen in the first-look images above and below.

Robert Sean Leonard, The Good Doctor

The Good Doctor previously welcomed fellow House vet Lisa Edelstein for a season-long arc as Glassman’s oncologist Dr. Marina Blaize. There are no plans to bring her back at this time.

Since his eight-year stint as House‘s Dr. James Wilson came to an end in 2012, Leonard has recurred on TNT’s Falling Skies and the NatGeo miniseries The Hot Zone. Additional TV credits include episodes of The Blacklist, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

As previously reported, Jasika Nicole, who plays Shaun’s love interest Carly, has been promoted to series regular ahead of Season 3. Meanwhile, original cast member Tamlyn Tomita, who plays San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital Board chairwoman Allegra Aoki, will now be recurring.

The Good Doctor returns on Monday, Sept. 23 at 10/9c on ABC. For more intel on Season 3, check out TVLine’s Fall TV Preview Spectacular.

The Umbrella Academy spoilers: What was Leonard trying to achieve with Vanya? https://briefnews.eu/the-umbrella-academy-spoilers-what-was-leonard-trying-to-achieve-with-vanya/ https://briefnews.eu/the-umbrella-academy-spoilers-what-was-leonard-trying-to-achieve-with-vanya/#respond Mon, 25 Mar 2019 22:20:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-umbrella-academy-spoilers-what-was-leonard-trying-to-achieve-with-vanya/

Leonard Peabody/Harold Jenkins (played by John Magaro) on The Umbrella Academy was the villainous antagonist from the first series on Netflix. Leonard manipulated Vanya (Ellen Page) into a relationship in the hopes of getting closer to The Umbrella Academy. However, his true intentions for Vanya has been left up for debate after the character failed to fulfil his plans in season one. Here’s what The Umbrella Academy fans think Leonard was trying to achieve with Vanya.

What was Leonard trying to achieve with Vanya on The Umbrella Academy?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Umbrella Academy on Netflix.

The Umbrella Academy viewers were introduced to Leonard Peabody in the second episode of the Netflix series.

Leonard was a student of Vanya’s as he underwent violin lessons.

It didn’t take long for Leonard to worm his way into Vanya’s life, spotting her vulnerability thanks to her frayed relationship with her adoptive siblings.

Leonard and Vanya’s romance intensified and, bit by bit, he began to try and turn her against the other members of the Academy.

He knew Vanya had a secret power like her brothers and sisters, even though her father Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) had told her she was normal.

Magaro’s character set out to try and get Vanya to unleash her powers, however, it was revealed his backstory meant he had ulterior motives.

HOW DID BEN DIE ON THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY?

Leonard was revealed to be Harold Jenkins, a former superfan of the Academy who was born on the same day as the seven adopted children.

Harold was keen to escape his violent home as a child and become a member of The Umbrella Academy.

When Reginald refused Harold an audience as a child, the superfan went home and brutally murdered his violent father in a fit of rage.

Now, as an adult, he sought vengeance on the Hargreeves family who had rejected him.

While his motive for infiltrating the Academy was clear, his intentions for Vanya were not.

And Harold wasn’t able to fulfil any plan he had after Vanya’s overbearing powers killed him in a moment on uncontrollable fury.

Despite his death, The Umbrella Academy fans have found themselves debating what Leonard hoped for online.

Taking to online forum website Reddit, one fan asked: “What was Leonard trying to accomplish?”

It didn’t take long for fans of the Gerard Way-created series to offer their own answers.

One fan said: “Maybe he wanted it to be more personal like getting the Academy to turn on each other starting with Vanya. I remember him repeatedly saying that the academy won’t forgive Vanya and they want to kill her.”

A second fan of the show commented: “Didn’t he want the UA to implode on itself? Killing them wouldn’t be enough for him, I guess. They all had to squabble and destroy each other, which would be delicious irony for him because they were shown as this awesome family of supers before.

“They were better than him and rejected him, and he probably wanted to prove that they weren’t better than him because they would kill their family too (like him).”

A third theory put forward reads: “When he got out of prison and eventually found Reginald’s notes he realised he could get Vanya to kill them all for him. That’s why the eyes are scratched out in the pictures and why he visibly smiles when they think Vanya killed Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman).”

WHAT IS NUMBER FIVE’S REAL NAME IN THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY?

Harold’s true intentions weren’t revealed in the comic-book series either.

However, Gerard Way and showrunner Steve Blackman have spoken out about other questions to arise from the Netflix series.

Both Way and Blackman weighed in on the controversial ‘incest’ romance between adoptive siblings Allison and Luther (Tom Hopper).

The pair dropped a major hint season two was on the way as well multiple other series.

Should season two be confirmed, it’s likely all members of The Umbrella Academy would return.

Allison, Luther, Vanya, Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Diego (David Castañeda), Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), and Ben (Justin H Min) all starred in every episode of the first season.

A number of other The Umbrella Academy stars could make comebacks in season two, both in flashback or the present day.

The Handler (Kate Walsh), Pogo (Adam Godley), and Cha Cha (Mary J Blige) all came to fatal ends in the first season but could appear in flashbacks in another series.

Time-travelling assessing Hazel (Cameron Britton) managed to escape the fiery apocalypse of the season one finale with girlfriend Agnes (Sheila McCarthy), so they may return.

The Umbrella Academy season two could also welcome back the Academy as children, including Young Klaus (Dante Albidone) and Young Luther (Cameron Brodeur).

The Umbrella Academy is available to stream now on Netflix.

The Raptors’ year-long Kawhi Leonard gamble is going swimmingly, but could fall apart for the simplest reasons https://briefnews.eu/the-raptors-year-long-kawhi-leonard-gamble-is-going-swimmingly-but-could-fall-apart-for-the-simplest-reasons/ https://briefnews.eu/the-raptors-year-long-kawhi-leonard-gamble-is-going-swimmingly-but-could-fall-apart-for-the-simplest-reasons/#respond Fri, 04 Jan 2019 03:30:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-raptors-year-long-kawhi-leonard-gamble-is-going-swimmingly-but-could-fall-apart-for-the-simplest-reasons/ kawhi leonardDavid Zalubowski/AP

  • The Toronto Raptors’ one-year gamble on Kawhi Leonard is going about as well as possible.
  • But the Raptors’ looking like potential contenders, Leonard’s return to All-Star form, and the team’s recruiting efforts, might not matter.
  • According to a report, Leonard’s choice in free agency this summer might come down to the Raptors or his hometown Los Angeles Clippers.
  • According to the report, Leonard might not be able to pass up being close to home and playing in a warm climate, two things the Raptors have no say in, regardless of how well their recruitment goes this season.

The Toronto Raptors’ recruitment of Kawhi Leonard has gone about as well as possible nearly halfway through the 2018-19 season.

The Raptors have a league-best 28 wins and are just half a game behind the Milwaukee Bucks for first place in the East. They’re deep, malleable, and top-10 offensive and defensive unit.

New year, new records: Leonard, Siakam score career highs as Raptors hum past Jazz https://briefnews.eu/new-year-new-records-leonard-siakam-score-career-highs-as-raptors-hum-past-jazz/ https://briefnews.eu/new-year-new-records-leonard-siakam-score-career-highs-as-raptors-hum-past-jazz/#respond Wed, 02 Jan 2019 05:03:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/new-year-new-records-leonard-siakam-score-career-highs-as-raptors-hum-past-jazz/

Kawhi Leonard shimmied around Utah defenders like their feet were rooted to the floor, and filled up the basket seemingly at will in a masterful third-quarter performance Tuesday.

The Raptors superstar scored 19 of his career-high 45 points in the third to lift Toronto 122-116 over the Jazz on New Years Day, sending the Raptors into 2019, and to San Antonio for a big upcoming game Thursday, with a victory.

"It's good we all got to witness that live and in person. He was phenomenal," coach Nick Nurse said. "I've mentioned it a few times early in the year that it looks like he moves to some spaces fairly easy, and he'd have some 9-for-22 at the end of the night and I'd be thinking, 'When's he going to go 16-for-22?"'

Watch highlights from the Raptors' win against the Jazz:

Kawhi Leonard set a new career-high with 45 points, while Pascal Siakam added a career-high 28 of his own as the Toronto Raptors opened the new year with a 122-116 win over the Utah Jazz. 1:55

He shot exactly that on the night, to the delight of fans who serenaded Leonard with chants of "M-V-P!" He also connected on 13 of his 17 free throw attempts.

"Kind of been waiting for one of these nights where he makes them all," Nurse said. "He was great and he's a special, special player, as we know."

Spurs on deck

Leonard has scored 20-plus points in 14 consecutive games, the longest streak of his NBA career. He'll go for No. 15 on Thursday when the Raptors are in San Antonio to take on DeMar DeRozan and Leonard's former team, the Spurs.

Moments after his career night, Leonard disappeared to the weight room to lift, finally returning to the locker-room some 45 minutes after the game's final buzzer. His teammates had all departed.

Did he feel like he was in the proverbial zone Tuesday?

"Definitely. You have to have a certain rhythm about yourself," Leonard said. "Games like this it is easy to make shots. I always enjoy the challenge when you miss your first couple and seeing whether you're going to stay, or are you going to be mentally focused or confident in your shot."

Leonard said he'd felt his shot was off the last few games.

"That's why I took the challenge tonight of just staying and knowing I can make those shots and staying in my groove and just trying to win, that's it," he said. "That's all I'm trying to do, is just win the game."

Spicy Siakam

Pascal Siakam added a career-high 28 points, while Norman Powell chipped in with a season-high 14 points for the Raptors (28-11), who played without Kyle Lowry for the eighth time in nine games.

Jae Crowder topped the Jazz (18-20) with 30 points.

Neither team led by more than four points through a first half that saw seven lead changes before Leonard and the Raptors finally put some distance on the Jazz with 44 points in the third quarter, the best third quarter in franchise history. They led 95-85 with one quarter to play.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Crowder sliced the Raptors' lead to just four points with 4:06 to play, but Leonard muscled to the rim for a basket with 3:30 to play that restored an eight-point advantage. A Rudy Gobert dunk and a Ricky Rubio free throw pulled the Jazz to within four with just under a minute to play. But free throws from Siakam and Fred VanVleet in the waning seconds sealed the victory, and sent the capacity Scotiabank Arena crowd of 19,800 home happy.

Jazz coach Quin Snyder said Utah threw the kitchen sink of defence at Leonard, to no avail.

"We trapped him in the pick-and-roll. He scored in the post, he scored in isolation, he scored going to the rim over Rudy," Snyder said. "Eventually we started hitting him when he walked across half court. The biggest thing is we put him on the line — what did he have, 17, 18 free throws? That's a lot of free throws."

Nurse optimistic about Lowry return

Lowry, meanwhile, travelled to New York's Hospital for Special Surgery on Friday to have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving injections for his sore lower back.

Nurse remains optimistic Lowry is close to returning.

"I think so, yeah, I think so," Nurse said before tipoff. "It's now into pain management stage a little bit . . . Each day we'll be monitoring him and seeing when he's going to be ready to go."

Lowry didn't practise Monday, but Nurse said the four-time all-star did some shooting Tuesday.

The Raptors closed 2018 with an ugly 95-89 win over Chicago, limping out to 14 first-quarter points. Tuesday's start was strong in comparison. Leonard had 10 points in the first, including the pullup jumper that gave the Raptors an eight-point lead. They shot 55 per cent in the frame, and took a 26-24 lead into the second.

The Raptors missed all five of their three-point attempts in a see-saw second quarter that saw neither team lead by more than four points. Utah took a 53-51 lead into the halftime break.

Toronto opened the third with a 9-0 run, and eventually stretched its lead to 12 points midway through the quarter. The Raptors shot a sizzling 78.9 per cent in the frame, and connected on all five three-point attempts, including three from Siakam.

The Raptors improved to 4-0 in New Years Day games in Toronto, including last year's 131-127 overtime thriller against Milwaukee that saw DeRozan score a franchise-record 52 points in the win.

Kawhi Leonard breaks silence, says he's excited to be a Raptor https://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-breaks-silence-says-hes-excited-to-be-a-raptor/ https://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-breaks-silence-says-hes-excited-to-be-a-raptor/#respond Mon, 24 Sep 2018 21:05:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-breaks-silence-says-hes-excited-to-be-a-raptor/

Kawhi Leonard says he's healthy and excited to be a Toronto Raptor.

Leonard finally addressed the media at a jam-packed news conference, the first time he's spoken publicly since the blockbuster trade that sent DeMar DeRozan to San Antonio.

The MVP of the NBA finals in 2014 arrived in Toronto under a cloud of questions, specifically about whether he'll remain a Raptor past this season.

Despite reports he plans to test free agency next off-season, the forward and former defensive player of the year says he's excited to play in a "basketball city," where fans embrace the team.

"As long as I have on a jersey I want to play basketball," said the soft-spoken Leonard. "I came here with an open mind. I want to do great things so I'm going to make sure I put in a full effort on the court each and every night.

The narrative of not wanting to come to this city is gone.— Raptors president Masai Ujiri at Kawhi Leonard's introductory  news conference in Toronto

"By winning games this is how you get star-calibre players to want to come here and play."

The 27-year-old's awkward laugh was a highlight of the news conference, and was trending on Twitter all afternoon.

Casting negative light

Danny Green, the former Spurs shooting guard who was part of the deal, played the role of comic relief in a press conference that was tense at moments. He joked with reporters that he was surprised they noticed him sitting with Leonard.

"Oh, you included me, OK," he said, flashing a wide grin. He claimed the Raptors' Drake-inspired "OVO jerseys, that's what sold me [on Toronto]."

Raptors president Masai Ujiri, meanwhile, wasn't laughing. He chastized reporters for casting a negative light on Leonard's arrival. He interjected to answer a question for Leonard and Green about their move to Toronto, years ago considered one of the league's least desirable outposts.

"The narrative of not wanting to come to this city is gone," Ujiri said, to the applause of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. employees who watched the press conference. "I think that's old and we should move past that. Believe in this city, believe in yourselves."

'People like' Toronto, says Ujiri

He repeated his sentiments to a couple dozen reporters afterward.

"It's frustrating because I can't believe a beautiful city like this would not believe in itself," Ujiri said. "We have to move on from that. Man, look at everything in this city: Look at the Leafs. TFC won last year. They won the championship after being killed for how many years? Look at the people. Look at how beautiful it is. Even Kawhi said that. He said that to me.

"To continue to hear about people not wanting to come here is actually irritating after a while. It is. Come on. Let's be real. People like it here."

Leonard was virtually silent and unseen in a strange final season with the Spurs. He missed all but nine games with quadriceps tendinopathy in his right leg. There were reports he was unhappy about how the franchise handled his injury.

Leonard deflected a San Antonio reporter's question at the news conference at Scotiabank Arena. What went wrong? the reporter asked.

Off-season shakeup

"I have no regrets. But I want to focus on this team, this journey that we have in front of us today and just spend on present time and not look back," he said.

The Leonard deal was the biggest piece of an off-season shakeup that included the firing of coach Dwane Casey after the Raptors were ousted by Cleveland in the playoffs for the third straight year.

He's an astute player from what I can tell already. … He plays hard and he plays to win.— Raptors rookie head coach Nick Nurse on Kawhi Leonard

Among rookie head coach Nick Nurse's first tasks were meetings with Leonard at the new Raptors' San Diego home. He came away impressed.

"As we know, Kawhi is a man of few words, but his actions this summer were similar to what you'd think, he's a serious guy with a great work ethic," Nurse said. "I think he loves basketball, right? There's no doubt about it, he's an astute player from what I can tell already, over a lot of time that we work with him, our relationship will grow. He's a hooper, man. He loves to play, he plays hard and he plays to win."

Nurse said the team would closely monitor Leonard's health through camp and the pre-season.

Leonard's new Raptors teammates said they were "shocked" when they first heard of the off-season trade. All-star guard Kyle Lowry, who'd been hurt to lose his good friend DeRozan, said he looked forward to the new season.

"He's my teammate now so I'm excited to play with him, and I always ride or die for my teammates," Lowry said. "Go out there and play basketball, win as many games as possible, and at the end of the year hold up that trophy."

Silent Raptor Kawhi Leonard happy, healthy ahead of camp, says GM https://briefnews.eu/silent-raptor-kawhi-leonard-happy-healthy-ahead-of-camp-says-gm/ https://briefnews.eu/silent-raptor-kawhi-leonard-happy-healthy-ahead-of-camp-says-gm/#respond Wed, 19 Sep 2018 01:06:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/silent-raptor-kawhi-leonard-happy-healthy-ahead-of-camp-says-gm/

Kawhi Leonard is happy and healthy, says Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri.

Leonard, the centrepiece of one of the NBA's biggest off-season trades, has yet to address the Toronto media. But Ujiri talked about the two-time defensive player of the year on Tuesday, a week before the Raptors open training camp in Vancouver.

"Everything to me — he is determined and seems in the right frame of mind," Ujiri said. "You will be hearing from him shortly. I think there is a fire inside of him and we are all excited about that."

Ujiri swung the blockbuster deal — sending DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a draft pick to San Antonio for Leonard and Danny Green — while in Kenya with his Giants of Africa non-profit organization.

While Leonard has publicly remained mum on the move, Ujiri said he's not concerned about the 27-year-old forward's commitment to Canada's lone NBA franchise, saying Leonard worked out with Toronto's coaches in Los Angeles, and has visited the city a couple of times.

First impressions of his newest acquisition? For one, he'll rival OG Anunoby as the season's quietest Raptor, Ujiri joked.

'He's a quiet kid'

"Basketball person. Just loves the game," he said. "Wants to play the game and very competitive. You can tell he is a very competitive kid. It's about basketball. Once you just start to talk about basketball his eyes change."

The team won't be treating Leonard with kid gloves.

His [focus] is on basketball which is what you want. He is a basketball junkie.— Raptors GM Masai Ujiri on

"There is nothing we are going to do different. We are going to be ourselves. I think the situation with him in San Antonio which I don't want to talk about because I don't know much about it, but he's a quiet kid," Ujiri said. "That's his nature.

"We can't all be the same kind of people. But he is as engaging as he would want to be and he's very interesting. There is no maintenance with him.

There are no tons of people around him. His [focus] is on basketball which is what you want. He is a basketball junkie."

Ujiri spoke on the sun-drenched rooftop of a swish downtown hotel after a morning Giants of Africa event.

He talked about how tough decisions such as trading DeRozan and firing coach Dwane Casey might eventually drive him out of the basketball business.

DeRozan deal tough on Lowry

"It was tough because I built five years with DeMar," Ujiri said. "You're telling them to push as hard as they can, you're encouraging, you're trying to put in things for them to succeed and do everything you can … And then all of sudden these kind of opportunities come or these type of things happen. How do you explain that?

"But it's the same thing the other way. I've been in situations with players leaving. Those are the two things that make it difficult in sports. I say it again, that's the thing that's going to make me leave this eventually and go do something else. I don't like that part because I don't think in me there's one little thing of blood in me that's fake."

Camp opens Sept. 25

Ujiri said veteran guard Kyle Lowry took the DeRozan trade hard. Lowry refused to discuss the trade with reporters during a U.S. training camp in Las Vegas in late July.

"Kyle is close to DeMar and he's going to be sensitive … that was a blow to him. I think basketball-wise Kyle is always ready, he's always going to be ready, he's training hard and he'll be ready."

The season tips off with the team's traditional media day Monday in Toronto. The Raptors will then fly to Vancouver to open camp on Sept. 25.

Ujiri and his Giants of Africa non-profit organization will celebrate the centenary of Nelson Mandela with a series of events on Dec. 4 and 5.

Kawhi Leonard doesn't directly mention Raptors in letter thanking Spurs https://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-doesnt-directly-mention-raptors-in-letter-thanking-spurs/ https://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-doesnt-directly-mention-raptors-in-letter-thanking-spurs/#respond Thu, 09 Aug 2018 13:42:06 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-doesnt-directly-mention-raptors-in-letter-thanking-spurs/

Kawhi Leonard released his first statement since the blockbuster trade that saw the Toronto Raptors land the star forward.

Leonard, who submitted a letter to the San Antonio Express-News, thanked the Spurs organization, its fans and head coach Gregg Popovich.

But the 27-year-old didn't mention the Raptors in the letter, writing only that he was "looking forward to the next chapter in my career."

Here's the full letter:

I have been going back and forth the last few weeks trying to figure out the right things to say, and it comes down to two simple words: THANK YOU! My family and I want to say THANK YOU to the entire Spurs organization and the people and fans of San Antonio. THANK YOU to every one of my teammates I've played with over my seven years in the NBA. THANK YOU Pop I'll always be grateful for my growth under your guidance. THANK YOU to the fans! There is not a more passionate or dedicated fan base than what I've witnessed in San Antonio. Through all the ups and downs — I'm glad there were many more ups! —I'll never forget what we have shared and accomplished together. While I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career, I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio!

THANK YOU!

— Kawhi Leonard

In a trade that sent shockwaves throughout the NBA, the Raptors acquired Leonard and three-point shooter Danny Green last month, while San Antonio received all-star DeMar DeRozan, backup centre Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick.

DeRozan openly criticized Masai Ujiri, claiming the Raptors president promised he wouldn't trade him. Leonard, an unrestricted free agent next summer, reportedly wasn't pleased with the move and many expect him to bolt for the Los Angeles Lakers, joining LeBron James.

Leonard, if healthy, would give Toronto one of the best two-way players in the NBA and a true bonafide superstar.

However, questions remain about the status of a right leg injury that shelved him for all but nine games last season. He was named NBA Finals MVP in 2014 after leading the Spurs to a championship but his relationship with the team deteriorated last season to the point where he asked for a trade.

  • The San Antonio Spurs traded beleaguered superstar Kawhi Leonard away to the Toronto Raptors along with Danny Green in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a 2019 pick.
  • After the deal was made official, the Spurs sent both Leonard and Green off with farewell posts from the team’s official Twitter account.
  • Some fans on social media noted the subtle difference between the goodbyes, and believed them to be a shot at Leonard.

After months of ongoing drama that became one of the oddest stories of the NBA season, Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs have gone their separate ways, with Leonard and teammate Danny Green being traded to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a 2019 pick.

Leonard, who not long ago was in the MVP conversation for his brilliant two-way play and the heir-apparent to Tim Duncan as the next Spurs-lifer, left the team on what could be generously described as contentious terms, after sitting out all but nine games of the 2017-18 season due to injury, and ongoing disputes with team doctors about the severity of those injuries.

Kawhi Leonard trade: Lakers, Raptors and Spurs told of DISASTER move this summer https://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-trade-lakers-raptors-and-spurs-told-of-disaster-move-this-summer/ https://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-trade-lakers-raptors-and-spurs-told-of-disaster-move-this-summer/#respond Fri, 13 Jul 2018 21:10:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kawhi-leonard-trade-lakers-raptors-and-spurs-told-of-disaster-move-this-summer/

That’s according to Sporting News’ Sean Deveney, who claims the Spurs will happily entertain trade negotiations from the “desperate” Raptors.

Shock reports emerged yesterday with Toronto suddenly becoming odds-on favourites among NBA teams to sign Leonard.

It followed on from an article earlier in the week which suggested the Raptors had been generating “buzz” regarding a trade for Leonard.

The Lakers have been the favourites to sign Leonard for some time now, either this summer or in 2019 when he becomes a free agent.

The 27-year-old has made it clear he wants to head to Los Angeles, but San Antonio have so far played hard-ball over negotiations for a trade this year.

That has left the door open for other teams to come in and take a chance on negotiating with San Antonio.

The Spurs reportedly favour a trade to an Eastern Conference team, but Deveney doesn’t think a trade with Toronto makes sense for either team involved.

“From what I can tell, this is still mostly chatter and not something that’s careening towards actually happening,” Deveney said on Sportsnet.

“If the Spurs are looking to trade Kawhi Leonard somewhere that’s not in the Western Conference and are looking for a desperate team then Toronto is high on the list.

“There’s some sense there. I think it would be disaster for both teams.

“When you look at Kawhi Leonard wants and where he’s going to go next year and then you look at what the Spurs are trying to do, it doesn’t make much sense.

“Just in the fact Toronto are a desperate team in the East that seems to be there genesis of all this.”
