Last year’s Avengers Infinity War was a mammoth two hours and forty minutes in length. However, Avengers Endgame has been rumoured to be closer to three hours. And now the final runtime may have been finally revealed. AMC Theatres have Avengers Endgame’s runtime listed as a whopping 182 minutes.

While this could just be a placeholder, it’s a very exact runtime and one that Trailer Track reckons it’s about likely.

They tweeted: “At this point, it’s safe to say 182 minutes is what Disney is telling theatres in the US the runtime is.

“As mentioned before, the cut may be locked but film isn’t 100% done yet so final runtime may be different by a minute or so (depending on how long end credits/tags are).”

Certainly, a three-hour runtime has been previously teased by Avengers Endgame directors The Russo Brothers.

He added: “Again, this is a culmination film of 22 movies, it’s a lot of storytelling to work into it. Emotion is an intrinsic part of that to us.

“When you have to tell a really complicated story and you want strong emotional moments with the characters, it just requires a certain amount of real estate.

“This one, in particular, feels like three hours worth of real estate.”

Avengers Endgame will be released in UK cinemas on April 25, 2019.

The things I learned taking public transport the entire length of Africa https://briefnews.eu/the-things-i-learned-taking-public-transport-the-entire-length-of-africa/ https://briefnews.eu/the-things-i-learned-taking-public-transport-the-entire-length-of-africa/#respond Fri, 23 Nov 2018 23:17:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-things-i-learned-taking-public-transport-the-entire-length-of-africa/

This was the only moment when my decision to travel the length of Africa overland, Cairo to Cape Town, using only public transport, seemed like a dumb idea. Six and a half months, 10,000-plus kilometers, and precisely 317 pieces of public transport—every wired-together taxi, listless ferry and curmudgeonly camel given its own stolen-pen stroke on a blank page of my out-of-date Lonely Planet.

‘It’ happened early on. Timeline Sudan: At a refugee camp that reeked equally of despair and diarrhoea, a satellite-of-a-nothing border town called Kosti. It was a new border, after one country was acrimoniously, asexually split into the relative haves of Sudan and the have-nothings of (new) South Sudan.

RELATED: The man who walked 12,000 kilometers across Africa

Many of the South Sudanese ‘refugees’ were actually born in the north and were being spat out into an infrastructure-less south that they’d never been to before. They were famished, frantic, waiting to be forced onto a boat downriver, sometime in the indeterminate future.

My crime? Officially, pornography (photographing the fully clothed people I was interviewing) and trespass, the police claimed. Unofficially, I had stuck my sunburned nose too firmly into other people’s beeswax.

Cheeky young Marseille fan dribbles length of pitch to score from kick-off (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/cheeky-young-marseille-fan-dribbles-length-of-pitch-to-score-from-kick-off-video/ https://briefnews.eu/cheeky-young-marseille-fan-dribbles-length-of-pitch-to-score-from-kick-off-video/#respond Mon, 27 Aug 2018 16:15:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cheeky-young-marseille-fan-dribbles-length-of-pitch-to-score-from-kick-off-video/

A young Marseille fan made the most of his moment in the spotlight before his team’s game at the weekend, using the ceremonial kick-off to dribble the length of the pitch and score a memorable goal in front of the home fans.

The youngster was given the honor of conducting the ceremonial kick-off – a tradition in the French Ligue 1 – ahead of the clash between Marseille and Rennes at the Stade Velodrome.

Instead of simply passing the ball to the waiting Marseille players, he set off on a run toward the Rennes goal before calmly slotting past away ‘keeper Tomas Koubek.

The youngster then whipped his shirt off before launching into a classic knee-slide celebration, topped off with a fist-pump into the camera.

The crowd roared their approval as the youngster tucked the ball away, while the assembled line-ups for both teams stood bewildered at the show of scoring prowess.

The fan may well have taken his cue from a display by an older Marseille supporter back in September.

Charity fundraiser Kamel Zaroual performed a similar stunt before the game against Toulouse, also running the length of the pitch before slotting home.

The home team went on to draw Sunday’s game 2-2, coming from two goals down thanks to a second-half strike from Lucas Ocampos and an own goal from Ramy Bensebaini.

The result leaves Marseille in 11th in the Ligue 1 table on four points after three games played.

Leafs surprised by length of Nazem Kadri's suspension https://briefnews.eu/leafs-surprised-by-length-of-nazem-kadris-suspension/ https://briefnews.eu/leafs-surprised-by-length-of-nazem-kadris-suspension/#respond Sun, 15 Apr 2018 00:02:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/leafs-surprised-by-length-of-nazem-kadris-suspension/

The Toronto Maple Leafs expected Nazem Kadri to be suspended a game or two for his hit on Tommy Wingels in the 5-1 loss that opened their first-round playoff series with the Boston Bruins.

The three-game ban, however, caught them off guard.

“Yeah, for sure,” Leafs head coach Mike Babcock said Saturday morning when asked if he was surprised by the length of the suspension.

Kadri drove Wingels, who had fallen to his knees, into the boards moments after the Bruins forward caught Toronto’s Mitch Marner with an elbow midway through Thursday’s third period.

“Naz feels like a big brother to this team,” Marner said. “He’s a guy that plays the game with a lot of passion. He’s a protector out there.”

Assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct, Kadri pleaded his innocence afterwards.

But the NHL’s department of player safety came down hard less than 24 hours later, calling the play “a forceful and illegal hit delivered on a defenceless opponent for the purpose of retribution and message-sending.”

“We expected … a game out of it,” Babcock said. “Adversity you face in the playoffs, if you’re going to have a long run, is always there. There’s not much you can do about it.

“Let’s just get on with it. We went without a number of centres this year. Let’s play.”

Wingels missed practice Friday, but took part in the Bruins’ morning skate and could play in Saturday’s Game 2.

“Didn’t like the hit,” Wingels said. “I was in a vulnerable spot, and I think as a game, as a league, as players, that’s the stuff we don’t want in our game.”

Boston beats Toronto 5-1, David Pastrnak goal and 2 assists.2:08

The fourth suspension of Kadri’s career will see him miss the rematch at TD Garden, as well as Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Thursday when the series moves to Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.

“Obviously a little bit surprised,” Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk said of the ban. “But at this point it’s just a waste of energy thinking about that.”

With Kadri on the sidelines, the Leafs are expected to slide Patrick Marleau from the wing to centre on the second line, with Zach Hyman taking up the veteran’s usual spot opposite Marner.

Komarov moves up to 1st line

Leo Komarov will start on the first line alongside Auston Matthews and William Nylander in Hyman’s old slot, while rookie Andreas Johnsson appears set to make his playoff debut on the fourth line with Tomas Plekanec and Kasperi Kapanen.

Johnsson will also take Kadri’s spot on Toronto’s No. 1 power-play unit.

“He’s got good speed, good skill,” Babcock said of the Swede. “Ideally he saw the game the other night so he now has a handle of what’s going on and how competitive you have to be at playoff time to be a good player.”

The Leafs will be looking to stay out of the penalty box Saturday after giving up three goals on six man-advantage opportunities in Game 1.

“No. 1, let’s be disciplined,” Babcock said in listing off what Toronto needs in order to earn a split. “You can’t be in the box. No. 2, our compete level right through our group … you’ve got to have everybody.

“Competitiveness, on the puck, winning 50-50 battles, races, wall battles, net battles — that’s got to be our priority.”

Game of Thrones season 8: Ser Davos actor drops HUGE hint over length of episodes https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-ser-davos-actor-drops-huge-hint-over-length-of-episodes/ https://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-ser-davos-actor-drops-huge-hint-over-length-of-episodes/#respond Fri, 06 Oct 2017 06:43:31 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/game-of-thrones-season-8-ser-davos-actor-drops-huge-hint-over-length-of-episodes/

To the disappointment of fans, it was previously announced the final instalment in the hit HBO series would feature six episodes compared to the usual ten.

However, it isn’t all bad news as Liam, who plays Ser Davos Seaworthy in the fantasy epic, admitted the eighth season could feature the longest episodes yet.

And with season seven’s finale coming in at 80 minutes, Game of Thrones fans could be seeing a lot more than they thought of their fan favourite characters.

Liam told TV Guide: “[The episodes are] definitely going to be bigger and what I hear is longer.”

But although the British star revealed the episodes will be supersized, he hinted viewers will have to wait a while until the season airs.

He continued: “We’re filming right up until the summer. When you think about it, up until last season we’d have six months to do ten episodes, so we’re [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes.”

Liam’s major revelations come after Ser Jorah star Iain Glen told crowds at Comic-Con Stockholm that the first read through will be happening on October 9.

The 56-year-old also explained why the final season’s shoot may take longer than all the others.

“We’re all starting to be in the same storylines and so they can’t [have two filming units] anymore.

“I think this last season will take much longer to shoot because they can only use one unit because we’re all in the same sort of scenes.”

John Bradley, who stars as Samwell Tarly, recently promised fans every episode in the final season will be “monumental”.

Game of Thrones season eight is expected to return to screens in 2019.

With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Outlander, The Mindy Project, Younger and Suits!

1 | Is there a funnier ringtone on TV than BoJack’s ironically chipper tune on BoJack Horseman?

2 | Were any other Outlander viewers taken aback by how much Rupert’s death affected them? (We never guessed we’d tear up at losing the burly clan member!)

3 | Based on the relatively tidy condition of Issa’s apartment in the Insecure finale, is it safe to say the HBO comedy’s continuity team forgot that she pretty much destroyed the place at the end of the previous episode? How ending-of-La La Land was Issa’s fantasy montage about her future with Lawrence? And how badly do you want — no, need — HBO to makeBachelor in Paradise a Due North movie/companion series?

4 | For those in the Bachelor in Paradise/Brooklyn Nine-Nine Venn diagram overlap, how many times did you rewind Monday’s finale to see if this really was actress Stephanie Beatriz in the audience?

5 | Has Preacher ever made you more uncomfortable than it did by portraying Hitler as a sympathetic protagonist?

6 | Given all the people on The Haves and the Have Nots who wanted to drop a house on wicked witch Veronica, how the hell did the show end Season 4 with an attempt on her life but not a “Who shot/stabbed/whatever’d Veronica?” cliffhanger? The Mindy Project

7 | Couldn’t The Mindy Project have gotten Mindy Kaling and Bryan Greenberg together for one candid shot instead of Photoshopping together this mess?

8 | How irresponsible a babysitter does American Horror Story: Cult‘s Winter have to be for Ally and Ivy to fire her already?

9 | Did anyone else get AHS: Coven vibes Difficult People AHS: Covenfrom Matthew’s drag look on Difficult People?

10 | Wasn’t Midnight, Texas‘ Fiji nearly unrecognizable at first in the flashback to 10 years ago? So much hair! Also: Aren’t you kinda hoping that warm, wisecracking granny Xylda isn’t 100-percent moved on to the afterlife?

11 | Really, TV Land? Again with the fake “extended” Younger finale running time, only to tack on an episode of something else after? Bush. League. Move. (Wouldn’t the rushed episode have actually benefited from extra minutes??)

12 |Suits fans, was that kiss worth the wait?

Mr. Mercedes13 | Did every Mr. Mercedes viewer catch Stephen King’s bloody-good cameo? And between this and Designated Survivor, Terry Serpico  sure is specializing in creeps, right?

14 | On The Sinner, was the sound of Phoebe’s chest cracking as Frankie tried to administer CPR a bit much? And for those who didn’t read the book, were you surprised by the reveal of how Frankie played into Cora’s past?

15 | Salvation‘s Darius invented a suuuuuper-stealthy, injectable hard drive sniffer… that is outfitted with an LED light that glows brightly beneath the wearer’s skin?! Also, at this point might Liam draw a connection between “having sex with Jillian” and “astrophysical anomalies occuring”?

16 | How much money did Zoo save by having the razorbacks’ ambush of the TAC team occur off-screen, only heard through the comms? Speaking of the hybrids attack on humans and their vehicles, why would it leave behind so many random patches of fire?

17 | Project Runway viewers, let’s be honest: Brandon’s winning design was innovative and cool, but it had nothing to do with the challenge’s theme, right? Are the judges letting their collective crush on him cloud their judgment?Fuller House

18 | Which aspect of the Fuller House Season 3 trailer was most offensive: the hat made of sushi that Kimmy intends to wear to Japan, or the complete and total lack of Lori Loughlin?

19 | Should we be concerned that CBS isn’t allowing any Star Trek: Discovery reviews to be published… until after it airs? In related news, surely CBS couldn’t have been happy that its two late-night stars took a crack at the CBS All Access service on Thursday — less than two weeks before Discovery‘s big launch — right?

Stranger Things season 2: Full length trailer hints Will may RETURN to the Upside Down https://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-2-full-length-trailer-hints-will-may-return-to-the-upside-down/ https://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-2-full-length-trailer-hints-will-may-return-to-the-upside-down/#respond Sun, 23 Jul 2017 10:15:32 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-2-full-length-trailer-hints-will-may-return-to-the-upside-down/

The highly-anticipated series will return on October 27 and now Netflix have dropped the first full-length trailer.

Set to the tune of Michael Jackson’s 1982 hit Thriller, the three-minute long clip not only hints at more trouble for Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp) but also sees the return of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).

The trailer begins with Will and his pals Mike, Dustin and Lucas enjoying an evening out at the local arcade playing a game of Dragon’s Lair.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT STRANGER THINGS SEASON 2

However, things soon take a turn for the worse as Will returns to the terrifying world of the Upside Down.

Clearly not over his last ordeal, Will is struggling to come to terms with what happened as he tells his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) through tears: “I saw something. I felt it. Everywhere.”

Police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is then heard saying: “Nothing’s gonna go back to the way that it was.. not really.

“Whatever is happening is spreading from this place,” he adds.

At the end of the season one finale, the mysterious Eleven disappeared as it was feared she was trapped in the Upside Down – and this trailer appears to confirm that.

“Sometimes I feel like I still see her,” Mike says, before adding: “If you’re out there just please give me a sign…”

The camera then cuts to Eleven waking up and trying to make her way out of the Upside Down. But will she make it back to the real world?

Not much has been given away in regards to Eleven’s fate but actor Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, recently teased: “Something happens to Will in the first couple of episodes that’s very, very disturbing.”

His co-star, Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, agreed, adding: “[His friends] know he is not well. But they are just trying to pretend [nothing] happened.”

Stranger Things will return to Netflix on October 27.

The length of Saturn’s day is still a mystery, but a doomed space probe may soon find out https://briefnews.eu/the-length-of-saturns-day-is-still-a-mystery-but-a-doomed-space-probe-may-soon-find-out/ https://briefnews.eu/the-length-of-saturns-day-is-still-a-mystery-but-a-doomed-space-probe-may-soon-find-out/#respond Thu, 06 Apr 2017 18:33:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-length-of-saturns-day-is-still-a-mystery-but-a-doomed-space-probe-may-soon-find-out/ saturn full color rings cassini nasa jpl caltech PIA21046NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science Institute

  • The length of Saturn’s day isn’t quite certain, though it’s thought to be about 10.5 hours.
  • That’s because the planet is shrouded in clouds that go thousands of miles deep.
  • However, the gas giant does have a core that can be measured through magnetic fields.
  • When NASA kills its Cassini probe in September 2017, it may help solve the mystery of Saturn’s rotation.

If you look up the length of a day on Saturn, search engines will lie to you.

Google proclaims it’s 10 hours 42 minutes. Same goes for Microsoft’s Bing, though in a “10.7 hours” format. WolframAlpha.com (a search engine for brainiacs) narrows the rotation down to 10 hours, 39 minutes, and 22 seconds. Meanwhile, the latest theoretical estimates go as low as 10 hours 33 minutes.

The truth is no one really knows how long a day “on” Saturn is. This in part because the world, which is 95 times the heft of Earth, is not at all like the rocky inner planets that humans can imagine walking upon.

“When it comes to a giant planet like Saturn, it’s a bit strange to ask, ‘What is the rotation?'” Ravit Helled, a planetary scientist at Tel-Aviv University, told Business Insider. “It’s not solid all the way through, it’s a gaseous planet.”

But Saturn does have a solid core, and while it’s possible to measure the rotation of that structure, it has proven very difficult to do so.

Luckily, in the weeks leading up to the spectacular death of NASA’s $ 3.26 billion Cassini spacecraft, we may soon get a definitive answer that researchers have waited for decades or perhaps centuries to receive.

Saturn’s slippery day

How fast a planet spins says a lot about that world. It can provide hints of how it formed, whether or not a proto-planet smacked into it shortly after formation, what drives its weather, and even what exact shape it has.

Figuring out a rocky planet’s rotation is straightforward: You just watch and see how long it takes for a distinctive point on the surface to come back around, like a mountain or crater.

Anything resembling a liquid or solid surface on Saturn, however, is smothered by thousands of miles of swirling cloud cover — so researchers have resorted to more creative methods.

Saturn is thought to have a rocky inner core, plus an outer core made of metallic hydrogen on top that generates a magnetic field. Solar radiation that pummels Saturn’s atmosphere also generates a constant crackle of radio waves, and those emissions change as the planet rotates.

However, it’s proven notoriously difficult to trust a reading of either the magnetic field or radio emissions.

For example, NASA’s Voyager 1 probe measured Saturn’s radio waves as it flew past in 1980, hinting that one “day” on the planet lasted 10 hours, 39 minutes, and 22.4 seconds. But in 2006, after the Cassini spacecraft fell into orbit around Saturn, its magnetic field measurements suggested a rotation of 10 hours 47 minutes.

Researchers eventually learned that radio emissions from Saturn change over time, so they can’t really be trusted.

enceladus plumeYouTube/NASAThey also discovered two issues with the planet’s magnetic field lines. First, they line up almost perfectly with the planet’s axis of rotation, which makes it devilishly hard to use as an invisible “landmark” that goes around the poles as the planet spins.

Second, researchers eventually figured out that Saturn’s rings interfere with the planet’s magnetism, as do geysers of water and other material spewed out by Enceladus — an icy moon of Saturn that hides a warm, salty ocean.

In 2015, Helled and her colleagues tried to get around both issues with a mathematical model. They fed several ideas about what Saturn’s internal structure might be, and worked in the magnetic data. That model suggested a Saturnian day lasts 10 hours 33 minutes, but Helled says this is only theoretical.

“What is really going on, we’ll have to wait and see,” Helled said.

Decades after the first attempt to precisely measure Saturn’s day, that moment could come by the end of summer 2017: when NASA plunges its nuclear-powered Cassini probe into the clouds of Saturn.

Cassini’s scientific ‘roller coaster’ of death

During a NASA press conference on April 4, researchers explained why they’re killing off their cherished spacecraft with what they call the “Grand Finale.”

The maneuver will use up the dwindling reserves of Cassini’s fuel and put the robot on a collision course with Saturn on September 15, 2017.

“Cassini’s own discoveries were its demise,” said Earl Maize, an engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) who manages the Cassini mission. He was referring to the probe’s discovery of Enceladus’ potentially habitable ocean, and the need to destroy Cassini to avoid crashing into and contaminating “that pristine body.”

So on April 22, Cassini will use the gravity of Titan, another moon of Saturn, to slingshot toward the gas giant. This will put Cassini on a series of orbits that slip through a 1,200-mile-wide (1,930-kilometer-wide) gap between the planet’s atmosphere and its innermost rings.

cassini huygens mission spacecraft probe nasa jpl caltech PIA21438NASA/JPL-Caltech“That last ‘kiss goodbye’ will put Cassini into Saturn,” Maize said. “This is a roller-coaster ride. We’re going in, and we are not coming out — it’s a one-way trip.”

Luckily, NASA has a lot of science planned for that wild ride.

Since Cassini will pass within all of Saturn’s rings — and beyond their magnetic interference, as well as that of Enceladus — the probe should get the most precise magnetic readings ever taken of Saturn.

“With the magnetic field we’ll be able to get, for the first time, we hope, the length of a day for the interior of Saturn,” Linda Spilker, a Cassini project scientist and a planetary scientist at NASA JPL, said during the press briefing. “If there’s just a slight tilt to the magnetic field, then it will wobble around and give us the length of a day.”

Helled hopes the daredevil maneuver works and solves a longstanding and important mystery of Saturn.

“I think there’s a good chance it will, and I’m really excited about it,” Helled said. “If not, we’ll just have to have another mission to Saturn.”
