If you’ll excuse the X-Men pun, it was the last stand for David and his friends versus the Shadow King and the Time Eaters in Legion‘s series finale. So did David lose his mind… or finally get it back?

After a quick stroll down memory lane through David’s troubled childhood and adolescence, we catch up with him and his dad Charles in the past, with David showing him the amazing things they’re both capable of. He slowly pulls a glowing sphere out of his ear, which turns into a mace, and then tells his dad, “Your turn.” Charles yanks a glowing bullet out of his ear and loads it into his pistol, and father and son set off to defeat Amahl Farouk once and for all. “I like this… us,” David says to his dad warmly before they enter the fray.

Legion FX Series Finale Amahl FaroukWhen they arrive, though, they find not one but two Farouks: the past one that was ensnaring Charles, and the modern-day one who’s the “parasite in my skull,” as David puts it. He smashes Old Farouk in the skull with his mace, and they disappear into the astral plane, where a bunch of Davids sprint out of doors and attack Farouk all at once. Meanwhile, Charles fires his pistol at New Farouk, and they vanish into another alternate dimension. But that Farouk simply pulls at the bullet wound and reveals it to be a harmless red scarf, and when Charles pulls out a knife to fight, Farouk scoffs at his lack of imagination. He offers him a drink instead. (How civilized!)

That’s not the only battle going on: Syd and Kerry are still with David’s mom Gabrielle in the past, being chased by those nasty Time Eaters. Cary figures if he and Kerry merge bodies, it’ll confuse their foes — and Gabrielle is awed by the sight. “I see it now,” she marvels. “You’re gods.” (“I wish,” Syd quips.) The merged Kerry is energized, and takes great delight in kicking and slashing at Time Eaters while Syd polishes off a few more with her shotgun. But the fight takes a lot out of Kerry: We can actually see her hair turning gray as the battle rages on.

Old Farouk proves to be too powerful even for a dozen Davids, and David finds himself stuck in a strait jacket, with Farouk taunting him that he’s still just a scared little baby. “I’m a good person,” David insists. “I deserve love.” (“No, you don’t,” Farouk counters.) David cries out in agony and begins singing (!) the Pink Floyd classic “Mother,” with Gabrielle chiming in for a verse. When the song finishes, he summons the strength to finally pull off the strait jacket, which morphs into Farouk, and tell his mortal enemy it’s “time to die.” But his dad and New Farouk are actually getting along quite nicely: Farouk tells him, “I love the boy, Charles. I consider him my son,” and offers him a proposition. Hmmm…

Legion Season 3 Premiere SwitchSwitch, weary from the rigors of time travel, wakes up to a rattling earthquake (the aftershocks from David’s tussle with Farouk) and zaps off to the time-travel hallway, where she spits out a mouthful of teeth as the Time Eaters close in on her. “I surrender to you,” she tells them. “Bed time is here.” She puts on her headphones, at peace with her decision… but she’s awoken by her father caressing her face. “You have discovered the true meaning of time: an ocean, not a river,” he tells her, and the exhaustion has now totally left her face. She ends up in her old bedroom with her dad, who shows her how to use a whistle to train the Time Eaters like they’re obedient dogs. He wants to introduce her to “existence, untethered” — but she has one more job to do.

She arrives just in time to save Syd and Kerry from the Time Eaters, blowing her whistle to call them off. After offering some cryptically reassuring words to Syd about how she and David will now get a chance to relive their lives over from the start, she disappears again. (Kerry: “What just happened?” Syd: “I think we saved the world.”) And just as David is about to choke the life out of Old Farouk, he’s stopped by Charles and New Farouk. Charles tells his son he’s made a deal with Farouk to respect one another’s existence. (When David asks how they can take him at his word, Charles fires back: “We’re telepaths. We never have to take anyone at their word.”) He apologizes for not being there for David before and pulls him in for a paternal hug. New Farouk gets Old Farouk on board, too, by putting glasses on him and showing him kaleidoscopic visions of David’s entire life that bring a tear to the old villain’s eye.

David and Farouk shake on their newfound truce, Switch heads back off to explore “existence, untethered” with her dad, and an elderly Kerry holds hands with Cary and calls him “brother.” Charles reunites with Gabrielle and vows to stop travelling and spend more time with her and their son. He wants to become a teacher… or a Professor (X), perhaps? Finally, David and Syd gaze at Baby David in his crib, both poised to start new lives… without each other. After she tells her former love to “be a good boy,” they both fade off into the ether, and the Who’s “Happy Jack” — which played in the pilot — plays us off once again.

Legion season 3: David to die in finale? Dan Stevens drops terrifying end game hint https://briefnews.eu/legion-season-3-david-to-die-in-finale-dan-stevens-drops-terrifying-end-game-hint/ https://briefnews.eu/legion-season-3-david-to-die-in-finale-dan-stevens-drops-terrifying-end-game-hint/#respond Sun, 30 Jun 2019 10:26:28 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/legion-season-3-david-to-die-in-finale-dan-stevens-drops-terrifying-end-game-hint/

Legion is coming to an end next week with the release of season three.

When viewers last saw David Haller (played by Dan Stevens) he was escaping, and his new role as the villain was just beginning.

Now, in season three, it looks like David is going to feature as the main antagonist for the show, as Sydney Barrett (Rachel Keller) is the force attempting to stop him.

To make matters worse, Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban) is now working for Division 3, working against David as well.

Lenny (Aubrey Plaza) seems to have come out of last season’s situation in top, as she is now running a cult alongside David, bolstering his forces even further.

With this season set to introduce Charles Xavier (Harry Lloyd) proper, David is going to have to tackle his past to ensure he has a future.

Before that, it looks as if David’s story is going to get a little more hectic, as teased by David actor Dan himself.

Speaking at the premiere for Legion’s third season, Dan explained what has changed for David since viewers last saw him.

He teased: “Oh my God, well, along with Lenny he’s started a sort of love cult.

“It just gets crazier really, it gets very very dark, very weird. Yeah. I mean all the things we like about Legion really.”

To make things even more cryptic, Dan was also asked to sum his character up in one word, to which he responded: “Multitudes.”

The final eight episodes are sure to be exciting and shocking, and the show’s creator Noah Hawley is adamant the story’s end is going to be interesting.

He also said at the premiere: “For me the show is an experiment.

“We’re not only telling an interesting story, we’re telling a story in an interesting way.

“I think there’s a lot that gets taken for granted in storytelling for the small screen. People start in the beginning, they go to the middle and they end in the end.

“There’s so many forms of storytelling we haven’t explored yet, so I’m excited to push the boundaries.

This season Noah has also introduced a new mutant character: Switch (Lauren Tsai).

Switch can travel through time, and has teamed up with David to do his bidding – but will she stick around once she realises how malevolent David is becoming?

Or will she be looking for a way out once she realises what is going on?

Legion season three begins Thursday July 4 at 9pm on FX.

RELATED STORIES

FX’s Legion got trippier than ever in its third and final season premiere, with David leading a far-out cult of hippies — but why is he so eager to go back in time?

Monday’s premiere kicks off, rather boldly, by following a new character for nearly half the episode: a young Asian girl played by Lauren Tsai, who’s listening to “Lessons in Time Travel” instructional tapes. She happens upon a cryptic flyer and sees that they’re searching for a time traveler, so she solves a series of clues like “Find the Orange Fish” — using her time-travel skills to go back in time and catch something she missed at one point — and ends up following a bus full of happy hippie revelers down an alley. She enters a glowing glass door and is faced with racks of clothes and a stern woman behind a counter that keeps moving away every time she approaches. Once she shouts out “Salmon,” though (that’s the orange fish), the hippies start to sing, she’s given a new outfit and led down a transparent tunnel, through offices and canyons and seas, until she reaches a pregnant girl who tells her: “You’re just in time.”

Legion Season 3 Premiere SwitchShe’s led through a commune filled with hippies smoking hookahs, with the Stones’ “2000 Light Years From Home” playing, while a mysterious blue liquid flows and bubbles in nearby tubes. “He makes it, in here,” the pregnant girl says, pointing towards her head, and introduces the Asian girl to an “alchemist” named Squirrel, who dubs the new girl “Switch.” She’s left in an empty room, where some more hippies bring in “the Breakfast Queen”… it’s Lenny! When Switch asks if this is a cult, Lenny proudly replies, “Yes,” and wants to see proof of Switch’s time-travel abilities. But she’ll only prove it to “him” — so she’s taken to a cave, where a blissed-out David greets her and offers her some tea.

He explains that he built all of this with his mind to help people with their pain: “I’m the Magic Man.” To demonstrate, he has Switch visualize her bedroom in her mind, and then zaps them both there instantly. He shares his backstory — how he was adopted, and a monster lived in his head and haunted him for years — “but I’m better now,” he assures her. She asks why he needs a time traveler, and he shows her a flash of Syd. “So it’s a girl thing?” she replies, but it’s a bit more complicated than that, he says. For one thing, the “monster” he mentioned wasn’t metaphorical… and she gets proof when Division 3 bursts in, guns blazing. Kerry chops David’s arm off with a katana (!), but he’s still able to use his powers to destroy all of the invaders… until a gunshot wound opens in his chest, courtesy of Syd.

Switch uses time travel to get away, though, and walks down a hallway where she considers going back 10 minutes, 20 minutes, an hour — but her instructional tapes warn against going back too far, or you “risk waking the demon.” She settles on an hour and zips back to her meeting with Lenny, and tries to warn David that bad people are on the way. He thinks he’d sense them, but “you didn’t last time,” she tells him. This time, he zaps them inside the commune, where hippies are battling Division 3 thugs… and Amahl Farouk lurks in the background. David uses his powers to clean house, but he gets shot by Syd again, so Switch heads back in time again, this time two hours back. And that’s when she meets Farouk.

Legion Season 3 Premiere FaroukShe finds herself in an empty room with Farouk, who assures her she’s safe and wonders why all time travelers tend to be women. Over a nice cup of tea — a lot of tea in this episode! — he tells Switch he knows she’s helping David, but “maybe we can make a different arrangement.” She manages to sneak away, but Farouk reports back to Division 3 that David has a time traveler on his side now. “How do you surprise someone who can go back in time and warn himself?” he muses, but the Division 3 heads press on with their plans to take out David, figuring they’ll just kill Switch in the process. (Oh, and Carey is constructing an android replacement for Ptonomy. Just thought you should know.)

Farouk tells Syd they’ve located David and wants her to stay back, but she insists on coming along. He thinks she still has feelings for David — and that’s a pretty good bet, we’d say. (Then again, she did shoot him dead. Twice.) We see the invasion from their perspective, with Carey fitting the soldiers with brainwave blockers so David won’t see them coming. But this time, as they approach, there’s a flash of light, and suddenly the entire commune has vanished, leaving a gigantic crater in its wake. The opening credits roll at the very end — nice touch, Noah Hawley — as Syd picks up a bloody tooth on the ground. (We did spot Switch wiggling one of her teeth earlier.) Let the final battle… begin.

Legion Boss on Why He's Ending the Show — and Introducing Professor X https://briefnews.eu/legion-boss-on-why-hes-ending-the-show-and-introducing-professor-x/ https://briefnews.eu/legion-boss-on-why-hes-ending-the-show-and-introducing-professor-x/#respond Wed, 06 Feb 2019 00:46:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/legion-boss-on-why-hes-ending-the-show-and-introducing-professor-x/ Legion‘s story is drawing to a close this year… but not before a much-anticipated family reunion.

The upcoming third season of FX’s mind-bending mutant drama will be its last, the network confirmed this week, and creator Noah Hawley says that was his plan all along. “I think endings are what give stories meaning,” he told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “I always thought about this as a complete story with a beginning, middle and end, and it felt like a three-act story, and so this just felt like the natural place to end it.”

When Legion was renewed for Season 3 back in June, though, it wasn’t announced as the final season — a decision that Hawley chalks up to “maybe wishful thinking on the network’s part.” But he tells TVLine that “for me, it was always that… I feel like the most powerful version of the story is the most concise version of the story.”

Legion FX Season 2 Finale Lenny DavidSo where will we find conflicted mutant David Haller when the final season debuts in June? Last we saw David, he was using his formidable powers to escape prosecution and leave Syd and his Summerland friends behind — and in a Season 3 sneak peek screened for reporters, David is now the Zen-ed out guru of a hippy-dippy commune. “He has gone to a place to get what he needs, which is positive affirmation coming at him,” Hawley hints. “But he does it by feeding off the positive energy of his acolytes, and he gets all this positive energy by implanting that positivity in their minds. So he’s in this feedback loop. He’s no healthier, actually, psychologically, than he was before. He’s just insulated… and that insulation doesn’t last for very long.”

At the commune, David meets fellow mutant Switch, played by new cast addition Lauren Tsai. “She has this ability to travel in time, so she finds her way to David,” Hawley teases, adding that it just so happens that David “has a plan that he needs a time traveler for, and that’s basically our jumping-off point” for Season 3.

Also debuting in Season 3: David’s famous father Charles Xavier, aka X-Men leader Professor X, to be played by Game of Thrones alum Harry Lloyd. (Mr. Robot‘s Stephanie Corneliussen will play David’s mother Gabrielle.) We’ve only seen a glimpse of Professor X’s wheelchair so far on Legion, so his arrival should help David piece together his own origin story. “David is an adopted boy who needs to know who he really is, so we’re definitely going to tell that story,” Hawley confirms. “We’ll meet them in the third hour this year.”

Setting aside all the plot twists, though, we can always count on Legion to deliver a dazzling array of trippy visuals, like last season’s epic dance battle. Hawley says “there will be no more dance battles” in the final season, “but that is not to say there will be no more battles that aren’t about fighting. That’s all I will say.”

Fortnite Ice Legion and Ice Storm challenges revealed for Season 7 https://briefnews.eu/fortnite-ice-legion-and-ice-storm-challenges-revealed-for-season-7/ https://briefnews.eu/fortnite-ice-legion-and-ice-storm-challenges-revealed-for-season-7/#respond Sun, 20 Jan 2019 05:53:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fortnite-ice-legion-and-ice-storm-challenges-revealed-for-season-7/

A big event just happened that changed the Fortnite map in a big way.

Epic Games just announced that new enemies have been spread over the map, with new battles coming in the future.

“A new kingdom rises. Prepare for battle – dive in now to take on the Ice Legion and survive the storm,” Epic Games teased on Twitter.

Not only is the map now covered in snow but it is also filled with Ice Legions and fiends.

These returning enemies can now be found on the map and can cause some distraction when moving across it.

They can spawn in random places and appear with a shard that can be destroyed.

Much like the Fortnitemares event, they will probably stick around for some time during Fortnite Season 7.

As part of the big Fortnite Ice Storm event, covered by the Express earlier today, Epic Games has also released new Ice Storm challenges.

These will function in the same way as the 14 Days of Fortnite, giving players a new way of unlocking cosmetic items over a period of time.

The Daily Star reports that these are the first new Ice Storm Challenges that can be completed in-game:

  • Complete Ice Storm Challenges (6)
  • Destroy Ice Fiends (250 kills)
  • Deal damage with explosive weapons to the Ice Legion (5000 damage)

Completing these challenges earns players 500XP, while the first “Complete Ice Storm Challenges” will bag a player a Blue Metallic Wrap.

It’s believed that there will be 13 Ice Storm challenges in total, with a special bonus available to those who complete the full list.

More challenges will be released over the coming days, meaning more XP and more rewards for those who choose to complete them.

Other challenges that have been leaked online includes dealing damage with Explosive Weapons to the Ice Legion and dealing damage with Assault Rifles or Pistols to the Ice Legion.

Another leaked challenge includes destroying Ice Shards in different matches, although it’s unclear when these new tasks will go live.

More is expected to be announced by Epic Games in the coming days, although the developers have stayed quiet on the current update to the map.

From what has been shared online, the new Ice Storm event could end on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019, around 11pm GMT.

While the Fortnite event appears to be over, there could be more changes coming before the end of the Ice Storm in January.

‘Legion’ Will Be Back to Awe and Confuse Us in 2019 [Comic-Con 2018] https://briefnews.eu/legion-will-be-back-to-awe-and-confuse-us-in-2019-comic-con-2018/ https://briefnews.eu/legion-will-be-back-to-awe-and-confuse-us-in-2019-comic-con-2018/#respond Mon, 23 Jul 2018 14:36:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/legion-will-be-back-to-awe-and-confuse-us-in-2019-comic-con-2018/ Legion Comic-Con

The Legion panel, the last Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year, had several panelists including producer and writer Nathaniel Halpern, executive producer and director John Cameron, Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb, and cast members Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Bill Irwin, Amber Midthunder, Jeremie Harris, Jean Smart, and Farouk himself, Navid Negahban.

One person noticeably missing was show creator Noah Hawley, who, according to the Comic-Con schedule, was supposed to be a panelist. Even if Hawley had been there, however, there likely would have been little additional insight as to what may take place in Season 3, which FX confirmed will air in 2019.

A Rehash of Season 2: A Lot of Stuff Happened, Including Dancing, And Some of It Was Bewildering

There was still plenty to talk about, however, as the show is known to be visually stunning and often confusing. The first ten-plus minutes, in fact, were a video recap of Season 2. The recap was helpful, and made me confident that I now understood about 72% percent of what happened (I still don’t get the minotaur though. What was up with that minotaur?).

As it turns out, the cast and crew were often just as confused as the audience when it came to the show. As Cameron explains: “We’ll often read the script, get confused, go make the episode and make believe we understood it…and then we’ll see the final cut [that Hawley does] and it’s often quite radically different but always better.”

Other members of the cast voiced things that initially (or still) confused them as well: Smart mentioned that the idea of the astral plane was a difficult concept to her at first, and Stevens said that often the whole cast was often collectively confused in season 1.

In addition to talking about being confused from time to time, the cast also discussed the fan-favorite dance numbers from previous seasons. “This year we really stepped it up,” Stevens explained, referring to Season 2’s opening dance number. “It was all brought together by Bill Irwin, one of the greatest dancers in America.” Fellow actor Aubrey Plaza was less enthusiastic about the dancing, and admitted she found it challenging: “I’ll never forget it,” she deadpanned. “I have nightmares about it every night…but I think it made me a better person.”

Plaza’s trepidations aside, no one ruled out the potential for future dance numbers. The possibility of a musical episode was even suggested, much to the excitement of the audience.

What Do We Know About Season 3?

Not much. Will things remain a bit complex and perplexing? Probably, but that’s part of the beauty of the show. Many panelists expressed admiration for Hawley’s genius, with Bill Irwin going as far as to say “I would want to be Noah Hawley,” when he was asked what superhero he would want to be in real life. So whatever Hawley cooks up for next year, it will likely be as dazzling and odd as the two seasons before it.

One thing we’re unlikely to see in Season 3, however, are characters like ‘David’s Dad’ making a cameo. “We never want to do Easter eggs like we’re running an Easter egg farm,” Loeb explained. “We want to be able to do things that Noah feels are right for the story.” Loeb went on to add that the adding such cameos would be challenging given the number of players that would have to be involved to make that happen.

The show has plenty of characters of its own to play with, however. And if the season follows the trajectory of the first two, one other thing we can expect is that everyone will change. A lot. David perhaps had the biggest change in season 2, where he swung from being the show’s hero to the show’s villain. All the characters, however, have changed significantly. Syd, for example, has stepped into the hero role, Lenny commandeered a new body and Melanie now lives in an ice cube with Oliver.

And there are no limits, it seems, to where Hawley will take the show next. I can’t wait to watch Season 3 next year and see how more confused I can get.

Season 3 of Legion will air on FX in 2019.

Legion Finale Recap: Trial and Terror https://briefnews.eu/legion-finale-recap-trial-and-terror/ https://briefnews.eu/legion-finale-recap-trial-and-terror/#respond Wed, 13 Jun 2018 11:35:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/legion-finale-recap-trial-and-terror/ If you thought Legion might tone down the weird for Tuesday’s Season 2 finale, it opens with David singing (singing!) The Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes” while levitating across a field. So there’s your answer!

David immediately faces off with Amahl Farouk in a climactic, if purely mental, battle: Huge animated avatars — David’s is green, Farouk’s is red — battle with swords and transform into animals while David and Farouk just stand there. It looks like Farouk has the upper hand… until Lenny, perched far away with a sniper rifle, fires a round at that tuning fork, hitting it with a loud clang and knocking David and Farouk to the ground. That neutralizes their mutant powers, so when David gets up first, he grabs a rock, ready to bash Farouk’s skull in.

Legion FX Season 2 Finale SydAfter a quick flash-forward to three years later, with Oliver and Melanie happily reunited inside his ice cube — they sip Martinis together and dance to Big Band jazz — we return to David, who’s beating Farouk to a bloody pulp. He’s interrupted by Syd, though, who arrives holding a severed minotaur head: “We need to talk.” She points a gun at her beloved David, and says she now understands he’s not the good guy: “I’ve seen your true face. You hid it so well.” He protests, telling her he loves her, but now she believes her future self was sent back to prevent the destruction of the world by… David. “Don’t you trust me?” he asks. “Maybe I just trust myself more,” she replies, before firing a bullet at him. He flinches… and wakes up in his childhood bedroom. (Of course he does.)
