An iconic Russian singer has condemned her country's invasion of Ukraine, saying it is turning Russia into a "pariah."
Alla Pugacheva addressed the Russian Ministry of Justice in an Instagram post asking to be branded a foreign agent, "in solidarity" with her husband, who has also criticized the war.
Pugacheva has megastar status in Russia and former Soviet states, having sold an estimated 250 million records and received countless state awards.
The New York Times has called her "the goddess of Russian pop, Moscow's Tina Turner with a hint of Edith Piaf."

She and her husband, comedian Maxim Galkin, fled to Israel soon after Russian President Vladimir Putin's forces invaded Ukraine on February 24, according to Haaretz.
From there, Galkin has accused the Russian authorities of lying about war crimes in Ukraine, condemning the alleged war crimes in Bucha and the destruction of Mariupol, as Haaretz reported.
Galkin was named a foreign agent under Russian law on Friday, according to independent Russian news site Meduza.
On Sunday, Pugacheva wrote: "I am in solidarity with my husband, an honest, decent and sincere person."
She noted Galkin's wish for "an end to the death of our children for illusory goals that make Russia a pariah country and burdening the lives of our citizens."
Pugacheva has spoken out before. In 2014, she signed a petition supporting Russian musician Andrei Makarevich, who criticized Russia's invasion of Crimea and Russian activities in the Donbas region of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian newspaper Pravda.
In August, Pugacheva said she was returning to Russia from Israel with the promise she will "put things in order," as state-controlled news agency RIA Novosti reported.
She was in Moscow as of Saturday, the outlet reported, citing her social media postings.
Russia's "foreign agent" law was introduced in 2012. It was ostensibly to compel people and organizations to declare support they receive from outside Russia but has been used to clamp down on critics of the Kremlin.
FKB, the anti-corruption organization led by opposition politician Alexei Navalny, was also labeled a foreign agent, before eventually being designated an extremist group in 2021, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported.
In July, the law's wording was broadened to cover anyone deemed to be under "foreign influence," The Moscow Times reported.

Tyson’s visit to the daytime talk show was in promotion of her new book Just as I Am: A Memoir, which hit shelves on Jan. 26.
The interview began with a story from the 96-year-old actress’ earliest days. When Tyson was just a baby, a stranger told her mother that she was going to grow up to be incredibly successful. Tyson explained that she was shy as a child (“I sucked this thumb for 12 years”), which made her a keen observer of humanity. “I listened and I learned why people said and did the things that they did.”

Looking back on her incredible career, Tyson said, “I never thought that I would be nominated for an Oscar, but I used to watch the event every year. One night, I watched it and I said, ‘I’m going to sit in that front row one day.’ And I ended up doing that for the role of Rebecca in Sounder,” a role she was originally considered “too young” and “too sexy” to play. The part was offered to another actress, who ultimately turned it down.
“I have been an actress my whole career who’s never been paid any money, because I never really worked for money,” she explained. “I’ve worked because there were certain issues that I wish were addressed about myself and my race as a Black woman.”
When asked for her health tips, she told the co-hosts, “I never smoked, I never drank and I never did drugs. When Martin Luther King was assassinated, I was so stunned by that that I became a vegetarian. And I’ve been one most of my life.”
“To say Cicely Tyson was an American legend would be too great an understatement,” Kelly Ripa said in a special message at the top of the hour. “We were honored to speak with her … and devastated to learn of her passing. She was a trailblazer who broke barriers for Black actresses and women everywhere. Cicely was a portrait of courage, dignity and grace. We feel very fortunate to share with you her last interview.”
The Live team released the following statement on Thursday evening: “Yesterday, Kelly and Ryan were honored to have the chance to interview the iconic Cicely Tyson, for a pre-taped show airing tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 29. Tonight the Live with Kelly and Ryan team was devastated to learn of her passing. They have decided to proceed and air the show and interview as originally scheduled. The hosts, staff and crew of “Live” send their deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Miss Tyson, and hope that the interview serves as a fitting tribute to this legendary actress.”
From a Kennedy Center honor to the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Tyson earned countless accolades throughout her incredible, decades-long career as a trailblazing actress. Her trophy case also includes three Primetime Emmys, a Tony, a Peabody and an Academy Award. She was 96 years old.
Official video will be added when it becomes available. In the meantime, drop a comment with your thoughts on Tyson’s interview below.

Balmain, Escada, Lanvin: Three houses remained by the time Legendary‘s Season 1 finale began Thursday. And what an atypical reality-competition finale it was — thanks to COVID-19 precautions, the competitors catwalked, spun and dipped to an empty hall, with only the judges to watch and determine their fate. (At least we know it’ll be back for Season 2!)
A title card at the top of the episode explained that in early March, as the first cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in New York City, the show’s producers decided to film the final ball without an audience. The theme: The Heaven and Hell Ball.
In the first round of competition, Lanvin started off with a hellscape full of demons that transformed when Eyricka entered, dressed all in white. The rest of her house followed, shucking their demonic looks for more angelic ones, and a four-person dip at one point really wowed the judges. Leiomy & Co. also loved Balmain’s contribution, which Law Roach summed up best: “Y’all came out here in the beginning and gave us Sunday service, and then it turned to A Nightmare on Gay Street.”
Escada’s group number featured lots of feathers and some very soft — maybe too soft? — choreography; the fact that some of the costumes fell apart during the performance didn’t help things, either. Ultimately, House of Escada was eliminated from the running, meaning the final competition came down to House of Balmain vs. House of Lanvin.
The deciding performance was a face-off, in which members of each house directly competed against each other in one of five ballroom categories: Hands (Carlos Lanvin vs. Jamari Balmain), Catwalk (Eyricka Lanvin vs Cali Balmain), Duckwalk (Makayla Lanvin vs. Torie Balmain), Floor (Packrat Lanvin vs. Gravity Balmain) and Spins and Dips (Zay Zay Lanvin vs. Calypso Balmain).
The competition was fierce (in several senses of the word), the spins were epic and the duckwalks would’ve felled lesser mortals. At the end, though, the House of Balmain reigned supreme, taking home the $ 100,000 prize and the title of Superior House.

The category is… renewal.
The ballroom competition Legendary will be back for Season 2 on HBO Max, the streaming video service announced Thursday.
Season 1’s finale, which showcases the final three voguing houses vying for a $ 100,000 prize, began streaming Thursday, as well.
Judges Leiomy Maldonado, Law Roach, Jameela Jamil and Megan Thee Stallion will return for the sophomore run, as will emcee Dashaun Wesley.
“Legendary was an HBO Max, Day 1 premiere,” HBO Max boss Kevin Reilly said via statement. “We knew we had something special and are proud that critics and audiences alike have embraced the series. Bringing this incredible world back for a second season furthers our commitment to high quality, compelling storytelling.”

The Paladins are entering their final battle. Netflix has released the trailer for the eighth and final season of Voltron: Legendary Defender, which is set to premiere on the streaming service in December. And the stakes are higher than ever in thistrailer, which sees the Paladins joining together one last time to “save all of existence.”
The last time we saw the Paladins, they had just saved Earth from the evil Galra empire and a Voltron-esque robot operated by an Altean, effectively ending the quest they had first embarked on when the show began in 2016. But that was only the beginning. In season 8, the Paladins and the entire Voltron Coalition must defend the universe as Honerva attempts to “set in motion her deadliest plan yet.”
But with the eighth season, showrunners and executive producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery are giving fans of the animated series closure.
“It’s a definitive ending for sure,” Dos Santos told Entertainment Weekly, which first debuted the trailer. “We’ve gotten pretty massive in scale with the show. Sometimes I think the trend is to then say, ‘How much bigger can we get? Where do we go from here?’ Maybe think about things becoming a bit more personal than things getting bigger and more universe-consuming.”
In a statement to EW, the duo added:
“We are incredibly proud to to bring the story of Voltron Legendary defender to a close with the eighth and final season. It has been an absolute honor to work alongside such a talented and dedicated crew these past four years over 78 episodes. Witnessing the fandom grow and evolve alongside the show has been nothing short of amazing, and saying goodbye to these characters, the amazing worlds they inhabit, and the crazy vehicles they pilot will be truly bittersweet. We can only hope that this series will be looked back on fondly in the years to come and stoke the creative flame inside all of us, the same way the original did when we first watched it.”
I’ll be sad to say goodbye to this show, which surpassed my expectations and became a gripping, character-driven sci-fi show that was a worthy successor to the excellent Avatar: The Last Airbender, which Dos Santos and Montgomery both previously worked on. But thankfully, we’re not left wanting for great animated content on Netflix, which hosts another acclaimed show from Avatar: The Last Airbender alums, The Dragon Prince, and continues to accumulate renowned directors to helm other animated projects.

Pokemon Go fans are counting down to the introduction of Mewtwo Raids in the popular app.
The Legendary Pocket Monster was previously only accessible in EX Raids, which require an invite to join.
Fortunately, however, Pokemon Go developer Niantic recently announced plans to make Mewtwo available in regular Raids.
The Mewtwo Raids are scheduled to go live at 9pm UK time on September 20.
The only drawback is that Mewtwo Raids won’t be around forever, ending just over a month later on October 23.
And as one of the strongest Pocket Monsters in the game, it’s fair to say that defeating Mewtwo won’t be easy.
According to Pokemon Go Hub, the best Pocket Monsters to use against Mewtwo include Tyranitar, Gengar and Gyarados.
Tyranitar is said to be particularly useful if it knows Dark moves like Bite and Crunch.
If you already have a Mewtwo in your collection, then this will also perform well in Raids.
Houndoom is said to be the second best Dark in the game, although like Gengar, it’s not likely to survive many hits.
Dragonite is also a worthy all-rounder, while Pokemon like Scizor can chip in with extra damage.
This could be a great season, absolutely. In 2019, the Champions League is THE biggest title you can win in football.
For me, there are eight teams who can win it. Two of them are from the Premier League, Liverpool and Manchester City. Both are genuine contenders, my favourites.
But six other teams who can have the dream, the desire, to be champions.
So there will be a lot of sides crying and upset at the end of the season.
If they do not win it, this year, they will not be satisfied.
PL’S BIGGEST TALKING POINTS: BIG GUNS’ PERFECT START, UNITED’S WARNING OVER YOUNG STAR
REAL MADRID
Real are part of the fabric of the Champions League.
They have won the last three.
But asking them to win a fourth is too much.
I don’t know who will scare the opposition now they are without Cristiano Ronaldo.
Maybe Gareth Bale can step up.
They are still a very good team but they had a lot of luck in the last two or three years and that can’t last another year, especially with a new coach as well.
Other teams are more motivated this year.
BETTER OFF WITHOUT HIM! REAL STAR’S SHOCKING CR7 REVELATION
BARCELONA
Now we will again see the Barcelona Lionel Messi, not the Argentina version who did not show his quality at the World Cup.
Barca’s system, his influence and role, is better for him.
If Messi is on top form, then his team can win everything.
And Arturo Vidal gives them an aggressive leader, someone who can change a game.
Last season, once the other side was able to disturb them, Barcelona could not counter it.
Vidal can help them win those 50-50 games by giving all his team – and the other side – a signal.
SNUBBED SUB FIRES BACK OVER ‘WARM UP’ ALLEGATIONS
JUVENTUS
We have seen what Juventus can do in the last few years, without Cristiano.
Now he is there and makes them more shiny.
He is another big name in a big team. We know he can make the difference in any match.
But I’m not sure he alone is enough to turn Juve from a last eight or semi-final team into winners.
BAYERN MUNICH
This is a new Bayern under Niko Kovac.
They remind me of a Jurgen Klopp team, pressing much higher, aggressively trying to win the ball back up the pitch.
In the last few seasons they have always suffered from injuries to key men when it really mattered in March, April and May.
That was a handicap they could not conquer. They need to have Neuer, Boateng, Hummels, Robben, Ribery, Lewandowski and Muller all in the best condition.
‘IT WAS SPECIAL’: TEENAGE SALAH’S CHEEKY FIFA ‘05 TACTIC
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
You only have to look at their attacking options, Neymar, Mbappe, Cavani, to see Paris are an amazing side coming forward.
But I do not believe they have the right balance. They lack the central defenders and the midfield No 6 that Thomas Tuchel wanted to sign.
The other problem is mentality. They had big chances against Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past two seasons but couldn’t do it. I think they suffer because of the quality of competition in France.
ATLETICO MADRID
Diego Simeone has made them so hard to beat.
He will remind them, especially as the tournament goes on, that they could have the real prize of playing the final in their own stadium.
It will be a motivation and something Simeone will use.
I don’t think they will get nervous because of it.
ROO BEAUTY! ARZANI SCORES FIRST CELTIC GOAL WITH SIZZLING FREE-KICK
Outside these teams, I can’t see a real surprise, like when Monaco got to the semi-finals a couple of years ago.
Maybe Tottenham could get to the last eight but I don’t think teams like Inter, Valencia, Roma or Napoli are strong enough although they could cause surprises in one-off games.

Want a hint of how the automotive zeitgeist is changing? You only need to look at the just-ended Goodwood Festival of Speed. Roborace has carved out a small niche in history with the first self-driving vehicle to successfully complete Goodwood’s famous hill climb, where vehicles have to tackle a gradual 300-foot ascent that includes narrow hay- and brick-lined passages. It wasn’t a flat-out assault, but the attempt (which was preceded by a practice run) went off without a hitch — which you can’t say for the other autonomous contender at the festival.
Siemens had prepared an autonomous Ford Mustang that carried none other than the festival’s founder, the Duke of Richmond, through the run. Technically, it did complete the run — but only with help from a safety driver, who had to repeatedly take over as the modified coupe threatened to plow into hay bales. This came despite Siemens’ team having 3D-mapped the course and plotted the route in advance.
Human drivers don’t have anything to worry about yet in either case. The Roborace vehicle was not only cautious, but tended to make constant corrections that are clearly visible in the video below. Even so, it’s good to know that a completely driverless race car isn’t intimidated by an elevation change. We just can’t help but imagine Goodwood guests feeling nervous — the festival might have less reason to exist if many future cars won’t need a human pilot.
