Naga however was ready to face him head-on: “You know what Matt? Bring it on. I mean seriously, did you now learn? Did you now learn the lessons from last week?

Matt though wasn’t willing to keep on the banter and said: “I’ll move on.”

He then introduced his guest for the day, Emily Atack, who is making her second appearance on the show.

“This is a live one, this is scary,” she said and Matt hit back: “Why is it scary? Should have been here last week?”

“I heard,” the actress replied.

'Hilarious & paranoid': Lavrov laughs at idea that Russia uses memes to destroy US democracy https://briefnews.eu/hilarious-paranoid-lavrov-laughs-at-idea-that-russia-uses-memes-to-destroy-us-democracy/ https://briefnews.eu/hilarious-paranoid-lavrov-laughs-at-idea-that-russia-uses-memes-to-destroy-us-democracy/#respond Thu, 02 Aug 2018 13:51:23 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hilarious-paranoid-lavrov-laughs-at-idea-that-russia-uses-memes-to-destroy-us-democracy/ The idea that Moscow is swaying elections and bringing down US democracy by ‘meme-sharing’ is preposterous, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. The accusations hurled at Russia by the US lawmakers left him baffled.

“It’s just hilarious when I hear that funny pictures can undermine American democracy,” Lavrov told reporters on Thursday, answering RT correspondent’s question about the latest US Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on alleged Russian interference in US domestic affairs.

Experts, brought as witnesses to testify before the Senate on Wednesday, spoke about Russia allegedly using the “less news, more memes” approach online to divide the US public. This led the lawmakers to raise concerns over how Russian “meme-sharing” affects American voters.

“I think that’s just paranoia that goes off the scale,” Lavrov chuckled, saying that talk of weaponizing memes only makes the Senators themselves look bad. “It’s not respectable for American lawmakers to make a sensation out of nothing.”

US politicians consistently accused ‘Russian trolls’ of waging a coordinated campaign to influence elections in the country – something Moscow denies. During repeated hearings in Congress, lawmakers failed to provide any concrete evidence that the alleged nefarious online activity was tied to Russia, and to present data on the effects such a campaign might have caused.

In fact, last year, tech giants Facebook, YouTube and Twitter told Senators that the content allegedly produced by “Russian operatives” made up a tiny fraction of their feeds.

‘Song of Back and Neck’ Review: Toby from ‘The Office’ Laughs Through the Pain [Tribeca] https://briefnews.eu/song-of-back-and-neck-review-toby-from-the-office-laughs-through-the-pain-tribeca/ https://briefnews.eu/song-of-back-and-neck-review-toby-from-the-office-laughs-through-the-pain-tribeca/#respond Wed, 02 May 2018 05:22:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/song-of-back-and-neck-review-toby-from-the-office-laughs-through-the-pain-tribeca/ Song of Back and Neck review

Do we really need another sad middle-age white guy comedy? Probably not, but if we have to have them, at least let them be more like Paul Lieberstein’s Song of Back and Neck. The artist best known to audiences as Toby from TV’s The Office makes his first step behind the camera for feature filmmaking to largely positive results, handling some slightly morose material with equal parts sincerity and dry humor.

Lieberstein stars as Fred Trolleycar, a mild-mannered office drone who suffers from chronic back and neck pain. He’s taken his woes to the top doctor in the state, only to hear that his options boil down to getting an addiction-inducing level of painkillers or expensive, lengthy surgeries that don’t even guarantee a fix. The sharp jolts of paralyzing pain come out of the blue but with such frequency that Fred knows how to work around them. In the film’s opening credits sequence, he does his entire morning routine while prone on his back. That’s everything from getting dressed to eating his cereal.

Things aren’t much better at the office, where he’s belittled by upstart lawyer Atkins (Clark Duke) intent on claiming ownership of the firm from Fred’s father. Life gets a little brighter when, in a plot point recalling Hitch, a beautiful woman comes in to have the company handle her divorce proceedings. He’s instantly smitten with Rosemarie DeWitt’s Regan, who suffers from the more existential pain of a loveless marriage and sheer boredom. Fred and Regan bond earnestly over their pain, swapping practical solutions and coping mechanisms. She has more luck curing him, of course, by suggesting that he shift his energy away from physical ailment and into emotional issues.

Plus, she refers Fred to an acupuncturist who makes a revelatory discovery. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with alleviating his aches. The practitioners realize when they insert the needles into Fred’s back, his body emits a pleasant-sounding whistling noise. One man’s pain is another person’s pleasure, so naturally they find a way to turn Fred into a viral sensation in the Chinese community. It’s an odd, unexpectedly humorous turn of events that livens up a fairly dour topic.

Song of Back and Neck plays host to a number of eclectic comedy styles, no doubt a function of Lieberstein’s past experience on The Office and Ghosted. The varied angles on making light of pain helps the film maintain a sense of edginess and unexpectedness that it doesn’t necessarily have at the plot level. (Hint: Regan’s husband shows up.) We can anticipate our ultimate destination, but Leiberstein keeps us off base on guessing how to get there by throwing in a visual autocorrect gag before some droll understated wordplay.

The film might not exactly abound in profundity or originality, but Lieberstein lessens the impact with genuine compassion. The candid conversations Fred and Regan share about their pain ring with authenticity. While the world around them (and the film, for that matter) might scoff at their torment, the understanding they share and the healing they attempt is genuinely felt. DeWitt in particular, who has regularly been turning in richly emotional performances since 2008’s Rachel Getting Married, sears with her take on the trope of the lonely housewife. Song of Back and Neck is Fred’s movie, though, so her storyline gets a little bit of short shrift in the conclusion. She’s ultimately a character in his personal dramedy, one that delights and entertains without too much provocation or surprise.

‘Roseanne’ Reboot Trailer: The Connors Are Back for More Laughs https://briefnews.eu/roseanne-reboot-trailer-the-connors-are-back-for-more-laughs/ https://briefnews.eu/roseanne-reboot-trailer-the-connors-are-back-for-more-laughs/#respond Mon, 05 Mar 2018 15:42:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/roseanne-reboot-trailer-the-connors-are-back-for-more-laughs/ Roseanne Reboot Trailer

Later this month, America’s favorite blue collar family from the ’90s is returning for a new round of episodes. The Connors were a groundbreaking sitcom family going through the trials and tribulations of middle class life in ABC’s series Roseanne. The series became famous for tackling issues that other sitcoms never touched, and they’re about to do it all over again.

A revival of Roseanne is coming to ABC at the end of March, and all of the original cast members are returning for more family shenanigans. Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Michael Fishman (DJ) and Lecy Goranson (Becky) are all reprising their roles from the original series, and the first Roseanne reboot trailer with new footage from the show debuted during the Oscars last night. Do The Connors still have it?

Watch the Roseanne Reboot Trailer

Right from the get-go, the return of the series has to address how the show ended in May of 1997. That’s because in the finale, it was revealed that Dan (John Goodman) died of a heart attack. The entire season dealing with The Connors winning the lottery was nothing more than a fictional creation of Roseanne, who had been dabbling with writing fiction after Dan built her a writing room to call her own.

As you can see, there’s a tongue-in-cheek joke about Dan’s death as he’s awoken from a deep sleep. It appears he’s also suffering from sleep apnea since he’s wearing that breathing aparatus. Hopefully the resolution of the final season for this reboot will be a little more clever than a quick throwaway joke. Showrunner Bruce Helford said at the Television Critics Association event back in January:

“There’s little clues and openings as we go along that explain certain things as much as possible jibe with the original ending there,” Helford said. “There was a lot of dream sequence to it because Roseanne was coming out of a dream and that affected certain things. And then Roseanne’s writing is acknowledged as well and her work as a writer and how that affected things.”

Other Returning Faces

In addition to the series regulars, there are plenty of other familiar faces returning from the original series. For example, Scrubs star Sarah Chalke will have a new role on the series after playing the second iteration of Roseanne’s daughter Becky in later seasons of the show. Johnny Galecki will also take some time to return as Darlene’s boyfriend David, but just for one episode since he’s been much busier with a series regular role on The Big Bang Theory at CBS.

The Roseanne reboot will also bring back Estelle Parsons as Roseanne and Jackie’s mother Beverly; Sandra Bernhard as Roseanne’s friend Nancy; James Pickens Jr. as Dan’s poker-playing friend Chuck; Natatlie West as Roseanne and Jackie’s friend Crystal Anderson, who just so happens to be Dan’s step-mother; and Adilah Barnes as Roseanne and Jackie’s childhood friend Anne Marie Mitchell.

New Characters Coming Too

But there will be new characters entering the series as well. Emma Kenney (Shameless) will be playing Harris, the daughter of Darlene and David. This character actually debuted in the final season of the show when Darlene gave birth prematurely, and now she’s a teenager. Apparently Harris is ready to prove that she can do better than her parents and grandparents, eager to move up the socioeconomic ladder.

Other characters include Ames McNamara as David and Darlene’s eight-year old son Mark; Jayden Rey as DJ’s daughter Mary; and Christopher Lloyd guest starring on an episode as Lou, Beverly’s boyfriend.

Roseanne returns to ABC on March 27, 2018 at 8 p.m. ET.

WATCH: Meghan Markle laughs off awkward gaffe as she takes to the Endeavour Awards stage https://briefnews.eu/watch-meghan-markle-laughs-off-awkward-gaffe-as-she-takes-to-the-endeavour-awards-stage/ https://briefnews.eu/watch-meghan-markle-laughs-off-awkward-gaffe-as-she-takes-to-the-endeavour-awards-stage/#respond Fri, 02 Feb 2018 11:41:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/watch-meghan-markle-laughs-off-awkward-gaffe-as-she-takes-to-the-endeavour-awards-stage/

Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, attended the Endeavour Awards in London last night.

The couple held hands and beamed as they walked in to the event together in a seamless display of unity.

But Meghan went solo to present an award during the ceremony, and had to contend with an awkward moment.

Taking to the stage to award a prize for excellence in sport, the former Suits actress read out the introduction with aplomb.

She then handed over to a co-host who was on stage to read out the nominations.

But, perhaps flustered at standing next to royalty, he missed his place on the piece of paper with the nominations list on it.

The seconds ticked by as the duo then struggled to find where he should start reading from.

Eventually, the audience started to laugh, and Meghan and her co-host started to laugh nervously.

Still unable to find the right section on the cue cards, Meghan looked at the audience laughing and pulling a face, causing them to erupt in to more laughter.

When they finally found the right spot, the audience clapped and cheered, and the co-host breathed a sigh of relief.

He then started to read out the nominees with no problems.

Meghan chose to wear an Alexander McQueen suit to the event, complementing her fiancé Prince Harry.

The LA native opted for a black suit jacket and matching trousers which showed off her ankles.

She teamed this with a white long sleeved blouse and a pair of black pointed toe stilettos.

Meghan accessorised with a small black clutch bag and finished off her demure look by showing off perfectly blow dried hair.

Harry on the other hand wore a dark blue suit, a white shirt and navy tie, along with black lace up shoes.

Celebrity Big Brother 2018: Viewers RAGE as Dapper Laughs offends with 'unacceptable' joke https://briefnews.eu/celebrity-big-brother-2018-viewers-rage-as-dapper-laughs-offends-with-unacceptable-joke/ https://briefnews.eu/celebrity-big-brother-2018-viewers-rage-as-dapper-laughs-offends-with-unacceptable-joke/#respond Sun, 07 Jan 2018 10:51:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/celebrity-big-brother-2018-viewers-rage-as-dapper-laughs-offends-with-unacceptable-joke/

The controversial comedian hit headlines in 2014 after making a joke about rape which cost him his growing career.

Daniel, 27, opened up about the misjudged routine to former detective Maggie Oliver on last night’s show.

He said that his comment about a woman “gagging for rape” was taken “out of context” by the media.

However, just minutes after apologising for his joke, Daniel said that fellow housemate Johnny Mitchell would be “hanging out the back” of Jess Impiazi in less than two weeks.

Daniel didn’t stop there and continued to make several more comments about Jess and called her a “naughty girl” at one point.

Celebrity Big Brother viewers were furious about the scene and flocked to Twitter to share their outrage.

One wrote: “#CBB Year of the Woman?! How you let those comments Daniel and Johnny in the Diary Room air without censuring them for their disgusting comments about Jess is unconscionable. Read the room.”(sic)

Another added: “Wow. So Daniel doing a great job on his first night of showing us that Dapper Laughs is alive and kicking.”

A third raged: “Daniel is just a sleaze… it’s not a character… talking about women like that is unacceptable.”

A fourth commented: “Imagine giving a sob story & say you’re ‘changing’ and then immediately after you make a misogynistic joke about one of the female housemates, cba, you haven’t changed a single bit Daniel.”(sic)

Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight on Channel 5 at 9pm.

Manchester tunnel row: Pochettino laughs, Pep defends, Mourinho STILL fumes https://briefnews.eu/manchester-tunnel-row-pochettino-laughs-pep-defends-mourinho-still-fumes/ https://briefnews.eu/manchester-tunnel-row-pochettino-laughs-pep-defends-mourinho-still-fumes/#respond Tue, 12 Dec 2017 22:42:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/manchester-tunnel-row-pochettino-laughs-pep-defends-mourinho-still-fumes/

Tottenham’s new £750million stadium will copy Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium in having a glass-walled window suite which will allow supporters to watch the goings-on of players in the tunnel.

Manchester United and City players and staff were embroiled in a furious bust-up after the derby on Sunday.

Milk was thrown at Jose Mourinho and Mikel Arteta had his head cut by a water bottle.

But Pochettino say the funny side.

“Maybe we will paint it black!” he said when asked about next season’s glass screen in the tunnel.

“Or maybe have curtains that are open during, but at half-time and full-time closed.

“Or maybe you have to pay double to have the curtains open!”

Pep Gaurdiolq, meanwhile, dismissed Jose Mourinho’s insults that City’s celebrations were due to poor “behaviour and education” by saying they have nothing to be ashamed of.

Guardiola admitted it was he who encouraged City’s post-match celebrations which included playing his favourite Oasis songs at high volume but that they were not excessive.

He said United would have been just as exuberant had they won such an important Premier League game.

Up to 20 players and coaching staff were alleged to have been involved in the fracas, which took place when Mourinho put his head round the City dressing room door after Sunday’s match, which United lost 2-1, and had an angry exchange with goalkeeper Ederson.

“I’m the guy who encouraged them to celebrate in that moment, but, of course, inside the locker room,” Guardiola said.

“Believe me, the celebrations were not too much.

“It was correct. We hugged, we jumped because we were happy. All teams around the world, here, in Germany, in Spain and Italy, the teams would be happy to win a derby.

“We have huge respect for our opponents, not just for Manchester United. What happened, happened. We will make a statement to the FA and they will decide.”

United manager Mourinho, who has already accused City of showing a lack of respect, went further on Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s match against Bournemouth, he said: “The only thing I can say is that for me it was just a question of diversity – diversity in behaviours, of opinion, of education, just that and nothing more than that.”

He said United behaved in the right way when they won at Arsenal a week earlier.

“What we did in the Arsenal stadium, you know, it was completely diverse. What we did, what happened after that match, the way we behaved as winners.”

And he insisted Romelu Lukaku – who is alleged to have thrown a water bottle in the rumpus – was innocent: “Accuse? Prove? Show evidence and punish him.”

Asked if his players have behaved correctly he said: “I am not confident – I know.”

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ works because it leans into laughs and weird moments more than any other Marvel movie https://briefnews.eu/thor-ragnarok-works-because-it-leans-into-laughs-and-weird-moments-more-than-any-other-marvel-movie/ https://briefnews.eu/thor-ragnarok-works-because-it-leans-into-laughs-and-weird-moments-more-than-any-other-marvel-movie/#respond Tue, 31 Oct 2017 15:06:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/thor-ragnarok-works-because-it-leans-into-laughs-and-weird-moments-more-than-any-other-marvel-movie/ ThorRagnarok2MarvelMarvel

  • This is the third Thor movie in the franchise and it’s very different.
  • The laughs and weird moments are what you’ll remember most.
  • But sadly Cate Blanchett as the villain is one-note and is often just doing a strange, Enchantress from “Suicide Squad” walk. (Come on, Marvel!)

Warning: Minor spoilers ahead.

It seems after two “Thor” movies, Marvel decided to do a huge pivot in tone for its third, and thank goodness it did.

Not to say that “Thor” (2011) and “Thor: The Dark World” (2013) aren’t good — they aren’t the best Marvel movies, but they are definitely watchable — but we all needed a change from the super-serious family drama surrounding the son of Odin.

Enter filmmaker Taika Waititi. Waititi has an outlandish style highlighted in his out-there indie films (“What We Do in the Shadows,” “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”), and he brought the perfect new feel to Thor.

ThorRagnarok4MarvelMarvelIf you’re a Marvel Cinematic Universe fanatic, you know that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) have been out doing their own things since “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), and didn’t appear in “Captain America: Civil War.” (In “Doctor Strange,” Thor appeared in the end credits.)

In “Ragnarok” (in theaters on Friday) we find out what they’ve been up to.

After a stint trying to track down the Infinity Stones, we find Thor on his way back to his home of Asgard, as word is that Ragnarok, a giant battle foretold to lead to the ultimate destruction of Asgard, is coming. He returns to find Loki (Tom Hiddleston) ruling the world disguised as their father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Needing to warn his father about Ragnarok, Thor makes Loki take him to where he left their father. After a funny cameo by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the brothers find Odin, who is on the verge of death. He reveals that there is an even greater evil that’s to come, Hela (Cate Blanchett), the sister they never knew they had. Following a quick battle, Thor and Loki find themselves on the planet Sakaar where they meet a bunch of interesting characters, including Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (voiced by Waititi), Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), and Hulk, who has been on the planet for two years. They team up to head back to Asgard to take down Hela.

Sounds like a cut-and-dry Marvel movie, huh?

Well, along with the usual exposition, the movie is filled with deadpan jokes and is-this-scene-really-in-a-Marvel-movie moments. From Thor and Hulk sitting on a bed talking about their feelings, to Goldblum being his most Goldblum, “Ragnarok” is an enjoyable break from the more “serious” issues explored in the MCU.

ThorRagnarok3MarvelMarvel“Ragnarok” certainly isn’t the first Marvel movie to be fun. All MCU titles have taken pride in having a playful mix of laughs and action (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” are recent examples).

But what Waititi brings to “Ragnarok” is a step beyond that.

Every funny remark or action in “Ragnarok” is extended further, and what comes out of that is a playful tone that is a nice break to the mind-numbing violence.

It’s also nice to see Hemsworth being allowed to show off his comic chops beyond just a line here or there in the previous two movies.

But that’s not to say the movie is perfect.

There are points when the momentum stops for (ugh) plot. Most of the movie is split up between Thor and his “Revengers” trying to get off Sakaar, and the evil things Hela is doing on Asgard. The shift to the action on Asgard is dull and by-the-numbers.

Sadly, Blanchett doesn’t help in this part of the movie. Like most superhero movie villains, Hela is bland and predictable. Blanchett has a few chances to get in on the fun, and throw out a witty line of two, but often she’s impaling things (or people) with the unlimited swords she can summon and doing a distracting Enchantress from “Suicide Squad” walk.

Sniper laughs off near fatal ISIS bullet in Raqqa gun fight (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/sniper-laughs-off-near-fatal-isis-bullet-in-raqqa-gun-fight-video/ https://briefnews.eu/sniper-laughs-off-near-fatal-isis-bullet-in-raqqa-gun-fight-video/#respond Wed, 28 Jun 2017 08:58:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sniper-laughs-off-near-fatal-isis-bullet-in-raqqa-gun-fight-video/

Dramatic video has surfaced showing a female Kurdish fighter laughing off a bullet that narrowly whizzed by her head during a sniper fight reported to have taken place in Raqqa. The bullet can be seen exploding in a wall inches from the fighter’s head.

“Kurdish women know no fear,” the videos’ uploader said in a tweet. “Your average human being would be scared for life after being so close to death but she kept laughing.”

RT reached out to the uploader to confirm if they filmed the footage, but have yet to receive a response. The uploader regularly tweets about Kurdish fighters and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The uploader claims the bullet fired at the woman came from an Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) fighter.

A badge seen on the woman’s fatigues is that of Abdullah Öcalan, an imprisoned Kurdish National leader whose image is often worn by members of the Kurdish Women’s Protection Unit (YPJ) fighting in Syria.

Great British Bake Off filming BEGINS as Prue Leith and Sandi Toksvig share laughs on set https://briefnews.eu/great-british-bake-off-filming-begins-as-prue-leith-and-sandi-toksvig-share-laughs-on-set/ https://briefnews.eu/great-british-bake-off-filming-begins-as-prue-leith-and-sandi-toksvig-share-laughs-on-set/#respond Sun, 30 Apr 2017 10:57:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/great-british-bake-off-filming-begins-as-prue-leith-and-sandi-toksvig-share-laughs-on-set/

New judge Prue, 77, was spotted making her way to the famous tent alongside Sandi, who is joining 43-year-old Noel Fielding to take over from presenting duo, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

The Bake Off newcomers were all smiles as they prepared to shoot the reboot, co-ordinating their outfits with Prue in all blue and Sandi opting for a red themed ensemble.

The former Great British Menu judge wrapped up warm in a blue padded coat and navy leggings, adding a cerulean and navy scarf, while Sandi looked chic in a red tartan wrap which tied in with her red boots as the pair chatted happily together.

The controversial move from the Great British Bake Off‘s original home on the BBC has caused much uproar among viewers and they will be keeping a keen eye on proceedings as the new series launch draws closer.

The snaps come after the show released the first official picture of the new line-up earlier this month, introducing Prue, Sandi and Noel alongside Bake Off veteran Paul Hollywood, 51.

The first look at the new faces joining the much-loved baking programme sent Twitter into meltdown as they debated a critical error in the image.

The foursome posed behind a table packed with tasty looking sweet treats, including a plate full of scones.

However, eagle-eyed social media users quickly rushed to criticise the make-up of the scones.

“Any examples of the past BBC #GBBO in which scones are correctly prepared (cream then jam)?” one fan blasted.

The snap sparked a fierce debate as others disagreed, saying that jam then cream was the correct order, with one saying: “I had been worried about Bake Off’s move to Channel 4 but at least they’ve got the scones right.”

Great British Bake Off is set to return this autumn to Channel 4.
