Priti Patel, 48, joined Susanna Reid, 50, and Piers Morgan, 55, to discuss the latest developments regarding the coronavirus pandemic. As the UK is in the midst of the third lockdown since the global health crisis emerged last year, the presenter wanted to clarify comments made by the Home Secretary about how people can exercise under current measures. With confusion rife over whether members of the public could exercise on their own or with others, the pair clashed on Good Morning Britain as the politician declared she wasn’t “getting muddled” with the facts.

During a press briefing she held last week, Ms Patel told the public they needed to “exercise on their own” and not use it as an excuse to “socialise” but Downing Street’s rules contradicted this statement.

Number 10 stated people can either exercise on their own, with members of their own household or those they are in a support bubble with.

Following the backlash, Reid asked the Home Secretary to add more clarity and whether she would like to refute her earlier remarks.

The politician replied: “It’s very well to take snippets of what I said out of context,” going on to add she was simply “emphasising we desperately need people to follow the rules.”

The presenter commented: “On This Morning last Thursday you said people in England should be exercising on their own.

“Now, do you acknowledge that’s not the case, that you can exercise with one other people outside of your household?”

“And the reason I say this is because I’m asking you have sympathy with people who are still a little bit confused about the rules,” Reid continued.

“And when you say they are very clear and very simple, if you yourself are getting them muddled up, that’s not the case, is it?”

The politician then proceeded to shut down her interviewer as she replied: “Well, first of all, I’m not getting them muddled up.

“When I’ve spoken about exercise and recreation, I’ve put it within that context and it is a fact, again, when I was asked questions about exercising specifically, it was about running and cycling.”

One viewer wrote: “This interview is boring, going over and over the same old stuff,” as a second added: “Let’s be clear about this, Patel was talking rubbish!”

A third commented: “She was muddled up. She came across like she didn’t have a b****y clue what she was talking about and every time she was on the ropes she looked to one side and read from pre-prepared notes. Anyone could do that #GMB.”

“Another car crash interview from a Government minister. How pathetic are this Government’s representatives?” a fourth asked.

“The lockdown rules are so simple that @pritipatel has to read them from a prompt during her @GMB interview #GMB,” a fifth posted.

According to the latest figures, another 33,355 people tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of cases since March to 3.47 million.

The number of fatalities also increased, with a further 1,610 people dying within 28 days of contracting coronavirus.

It has been explained by scientists the number of deaths will continue to rise despite lockdown having an impact on the rate of new infections.

Currently, over four million over 80s and health care workers have been vaccinated against the virus.

Sadiq Khan lashes out at Piers Morgan in face mask row ‘I was outdoors and distanced!’ https://briefnews.eu/sadiq-khan-lashes-out-at-piers-morgan-in-face-mask-row-i-was-outdoors-and-distanced/ https://briefnews.eu/sadiq-khan-lashes-out-at-piers-morgan-in-face-mask-row-i-was-outdoors-and-distanced/#respond Tue, 14 Jul 2020 10:37:15 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/sadiq-khan-lashes-out-at-piers-morgan-in-face-mask-row-i-was-outdoors-and-distanced/

Sadiq Khan MP was on Good Morning Britain discussing how Londoners and the rest of England will be joining the other nations in wearing face masks and coverings in shops and supermarkets after Prime Minister Boris Johnson made it compulsory from July 24. Kicking off the interview, presenter Kate Garraway gave the London Mayor the chance to explain the situation he was in on Friday, whereby video footage was posted to social media showing him partaking in an interview, talking about the importance of face masks and not wearing one himself. Resident host GMB Piers Morgan blasted the politician and today, Khan hit back.

“You yourself has received some flack – maybe unfairly – because you’ve been pictured not wearing one sometimes and yet advocating wearing them at other times,” Garraway began.

“Good morning Kate, so I’m at home now in South London,” Khan reasoned, explaining why he wasn’t wearing a mask since he was indoors.

“I think your colleague Piers Morgan criticised me because on Friday, I was at Applebee’s in Borough Market,” Khan added.

“[I was] outdoors, socially distancing more than two-metres from the journalist who teased me for making sure I was two-metres from him – and I was there to promote the importance of Borough Market and people safely returning to Borough Market and other places.

“But I was socially distancing and I was actually there to promote the wearing of face coverings in shops and indoor confined spaces where it’s not possible to keep your distance.

“And this one small thing, in addition to other measures can make a big difference in reducing the spread of the virus,” Khan argued.

It comes after Morgan took to Twitter and retweeted the video which shows Khan expressing his opinion on wearing face masks and coverings in indoor spaces and shops.

Morgan wrote alongside the tweet: “He says, wearing no mask.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Morgan’s representative and they have declined to comment.

“What I would say, is don’t be alarmed by this new rule, in fact I wish it was being brought in today rather than next Friday, but this will help all of us be safer and could prevent a second wave and could prevent a second lockdown which none of us want,” The London Mayor continued.

Since mid-May, the public have been advised to wear a face-covering of some sort in enclosed public spaces.

For transport, it has been compulsory in England since 15 June.

Those who now fail to comply with the new rules will face a fine of up to £100 which is set to be policed by transport and retail staff.

It follows a reported increase in the use of face coverings by those living in England, Scotland and Wales.

Apparently, more than half of the adults surveyed by the Office for National Statistics in the first week of July said they used a covering while outside their home.

According to the latest UK figures, the number of people who have now tested positive for COVID-19 has now reached over 290,000 with the number of fatalities standing at 44,830.

Over-50s lockdown fury as pensioner lashes out at ‘nanny state’ plot to ‘control’ adults https://briefnews.eu/over-50s-lockdown-fury-as-pensioner-lashes-out-at-nanny-state-plot-to-control-adults/ https://briefnews.eu/over-50s-lockdown-fury-as-pensioner-lashes-out-at-nanny-state-plot-to-control-adults/#respond Fri, 01 May 2020 13:29:11 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/over-50s-lockdown-fury-as-pensioner-lashes-out-at-nanny-state-plot-to-control-adults/

Peter continued: “You get three scientists and you get five opinions so I’m totally and utterly against it.

“Right now, I’m ready to go out for my daily walk, which will be between two and four miles, and include height and downs.”

Host Jeremy Vine pointed out: “In the end, you and I aren’t scientists so it’s difficult for us to have a view here.”

Channel 5 medical expert Dr Sarah Jarvis warned Peter that the evidence to support this measure was “absolutely clear”.

The new Warwick paper suggests the safest way out of the UK’s coronavirus lockdown is social distancing combined with a “rolling age-release strategy”.

This would allow younger and less vulnerable people out earlier.

It also recommends fines for over-50s if they cannot prove their age when out and about.

The strategy is based on widely-reported data showing older age groups are at much greater risk of death if they contract the virus.

Fatalities among 50-year-olds are 20 times greater than those among 20-year-olds.

ITV’s Tom Bradby lashes out at public SPITTING at paramedics – ‘What’s wrong with people?’ https://briefnews.eu/itvs-tom-bradby-lashes-out-at-public-spitting-at-paramedics-whats-wrong-with-people/ https://briefnews.eu/itvs-tom-bradby-lashes-out-at-public-spitting-at-paramedics-whats-wrong-with-people/#respond Thu, 16 Apr 2020 04:26:12 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/itvs-tom-bradby-lashes-out-at-public-spitting-at-paramedics-whats-wrong-with-people/

On the show, the Director of Public Prosecutions had revealed emergency workers have been facing daily coronavirus related attacks. This includes some people even spitting and couging in the faces of NHS staff and paramedics.

Max Hill QC said there have been dozens of reports of the coronavirus being weaponized every day since lockdown begun.

He said there has been a rising number of reports of police, NHS and other frontline workers being attacked by members of the public.

This inncludes workers being deliberately coughed at and verbally attacked during the global pandemic.

Coronavirus related crimes, where Covid-19 is used to threaten emergency and essential workers, is a worrying trend, with police now having to use spit guards to protect themselves.

ITV News spoke to Amy Hall, 28, who described popping out between shifts to buy her mum flowers for mother’s day, only to be spat at in a car park.

She said her attacker called her a “virus spreader”.

After the news was reported on ITV news at 10, Mr Bradby could barely contain his rage at the situation.

At the end of the report he hit out at the purpertrators of the abuse, saying: “See what I mean? What is wrong with people?”.

Other members of the public were quick to agree with the presenter.

One user shared the clip of the presenter, tweeting: “Couldn’t agree more with you @tombradby after watching that report about Police and NHS workers being abused daily…”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only horrifying incident of members of the public attacking NHS workers in this manner.

There have been reports of two nurses working in critical care at the Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Scotland having their cars damaged.

The emergency workers had just been fitted for new masks when they left the hospital to discover their cars had been keyed.

There have been similar reports in other parts of the UK.

In Middlesborough, another nurse finished her shift to find her rear window smashed.

In Ramsgate, Kent, paramedics started their shift one morning only to realise six ambulances had had their tyres slashed.

Despite overall crime being down during the lockdown, the number of assaults against emergency and essential workers is up at the same level as it was before the lockdown began.

Since fewer people are out on the streets now, the DPP said this level is concerning.

Attacks on essential workers are not new, but it appears the coronavirus outbreak has worsened the problem.

Max Hill QC told ITV News: “Throughout the last year, 2019, we were prosecuting 50 assaults on emergency workers per day.

Coronavirus related crimes is a worrying trend (Image: GETTY)

“We are still seeing, in 2020, in circumstances of national lockdown, the same frequency of assaults on emergency workers.

“So I am talking about dozens of examples everyday of spitting or coughing or assaulting emergency workers everyday.”

The recent attacks have caused a great deal of concern to NHS staff.

Ruth May, the chief nursing officer for NHS England, told ITV News that she is becoming increasingly concerned about the safety of NHS employees.

4 Hacks for Longer Lashes https://briefnews.eu/4-hacks-for-longer-lashes/ https://briefnews.eu/4-hacks-for-longer-lashes/#respond Thu, 05 Mar 2020 06:40:13 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/?p=258478 Do you ever wish that you were blessed with those long, luscious, and voluptuous eyelashes that men seem to always have? Eyelashes can really help vamp up your look and it’s no wonder that women are always looking for ways to improve their lashes. While you might think that you are doomed to the short and straight lashes that you were born with, there are actually things you can do and try to get the amazing look that you desire. So here are four hacks for longer eyelashes:

Use Olive Oil

If you are looking for a quick and easy hack to help your lashes that you probably already have in your kitchen – then look no further than olive oil! It’s true that olive oil isn’t just for cooking but it can also help lengthen and strengthen your eyelashes. This is a great hack if you are on a budget since you can use what you already have but there are actually specific kinds of olive oil that have proven to be particularly effective at improving your lashes. Olive oil works because it has essential fatty acids that moisturize and soften your lashes. The best way to apply it is with a dipped Q-tip or with a disposable mascara brush.

Stimulate Your Lashes

Speaking of mascara brushes, another hack that you can try to get longer lashes is to try stimulating your lashes by brushing them. This may sound overly simple but brushing your lashes can help to freshen them up and keep them looking their best before you apply any products. This is also a really inexpensive hack that is definitely worth a try if you are on a budget.

Eyelash Extension Procedure

Going from inexpensive and easy to expensive and involved, another thing that you can do if you are really set on getting longer lashes is to get an eyelash extension done. Eyelash extensions have become all the rage lately because the results can look really good but it might not be worth the price and the hassle. Eyelash extensions can cost hundreds of dollars and require a ton of maintenance – you have to go back to get them filled every few weeks, costing more money each time. Furthermore, lash extensions are a legitimate procedure that should be done by an experienced technician and it can be hard to figure out who is reputable or not. You definitely don’t want to risk your lashes with someone who doesn’t know what they are doing! They also require special care and don’t react well with mascara or certain types of eye makeup like cream-based liners. You also need to make sure that you clean them with special products that won’t damage them and just overall treat them with a lot of care and caution. There is also a risk of infections and complications from this procedure. Overall, eyelash extensions definitely look good if they are done correctly but it’s a very cash and time-intensive solution to getting longer lashes.

Magnetic Fake Eyelashes

If you are looking for longer eyelashes quickly but don’t necessarily want to spend hundreds of dollars to have a bunch of products semi-permanently stuck to your eyes, you might want to try magnetic fake eyelashes. Unlike traditional falsies, these lashes don’t use glue at all and use magnets instead. They are quick and easy to use, and many are even reusable! When buying magnetic false eyelashes, make sure that the ones you buy have several magnets instead of just two or three so that they actually line your entire eye with no gaps. There are a wide variety of styles, materials, and lengths out there that you are bound to find great ones that can work for everyday use, nights out, or special occasions.

Bercow lashes out at those accusing him of bullying by attacking them for being ‘entitled’ https://briefnews.eu/bercow-lashes-out-at-those-accusing-him-of-bullying-by-attacking-them-for-being-entitled/ https://briefnews.eu/bercow-lashes-out-at-those-accusing-him-of-bullying-by-attacking-them-for-being-entitled/#respond Wed, 12 Feb 2020 21:49:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bercow-lashes-out-at-those-accusing-him-of-bullying-by-attacking-them-for-being-entitled/

The former Speaker slammed his accusers as “entitled people” that felt they should have it their way.  During an interview on the BBC’s The One Show, Mr Bercow was also grilled about the savage comments he made regarding former Prime Ministers David Cameron and Theresa May in his book.

Speaking regarding Bercow’s book the BBC’s Alex Jones said: “We have got some quotes here from the book.

“You say about William Hague, buttoned-up cold fish mechanical ex-teenage nerd.

“David Cameron, born with a silver trolly service in his mouth.

“Theresa May, particularly unkind about Theresa May, dull as ditchwater as wooden as your average coffee table.

“John, it’s a bit much that!”

Mr Bercow replied: “No, I don’t think it is a bit much at all.

“I was very candid in my portraits of all of those people but you have quoted all the most negative points I make about those people.”

The BBC’s Matt Baker then said: “This is tied into the accusations of bullying that we have been hearing about in the press.

“Now and again there were people who were less than cooperative and resisted change or tried to thwart not just my will but the will of most people in the house, so of course, I pressed for what I wanted.

“There is one common thread and that is a number of somewhat upper-crust, very posh, quite self-important and entitled people who felt that the natural order of things was that they should not just have their say but also have their way.

“They didn’t like it when I dared to say no it may have been done that way before but we are going to do it differently now.

“It is a pity that in a sense people have tried to weaponise bullying.

“I repeat I have never bullied anyone.”

‘Insulting!’ Stanley Johnson lashes out at campaigners calling for BAN on over-70s voting https://briefnews.eu/insulting-stanley-johnson-lashes-out-at-campaigners-calling-for-ban-on-over-70s-voting/ https://briefnews.eu/insulting-stanley-johnson-lashes-out-at-campaigners-calling-for-ban-on-over-70s-voting/#respond Tue, 29 Oct 2019 20:39:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/insulting-stanley-johnson-lashes-out-at-campaigners-calling-for-ban-on-over-70s-voting/

Stanley Johnson argued on Good Morning Britain that to prevent over 70s from voting on issues in the country was insulting, especially because of the reasoning behind it. Former Apprentice contestant Joanna Jarjue argued that the generational divide and lack of foresight of the changes in the current world was a reason to ban over 70s from voting. Mr Johnson admitted that at times the older generation should take care to consider their choices but dismissed the idea that they should not have a vote regardless of whether they will live long beyond it.

Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray challenged Ms Jarjue argument and said: “Jeremy Corbyn is 70 years old are you saying he should not have a vote?”

Mr Johnson replied: “Joanna the point really is this.

“Where you take this line that over 70s should not be allowed to vote, it would be impacting people for a very long time.

“Because 70 is young, 70 is the new 30.”

DON’T MISS:  What state pension will I get in 2020? Payment is rising next year

The GMB host then asked whether Mr Johnson would prefer the age to be higher than 70, to 80.

Mr Johnson replied: “I think the more realistic thought is to say everybody should exercise their right to vote in a responsible way for the young and the old.

“The old people may have to give a bit more thought on the kind of lifestyle that they lead.”

The GMB panel then argued that if there was to be another Brexit referendum vote that would change the UK drastically those who would not see the impacts expected for 10 and 20 years later should not be able to vote.

Mr Johnson snapped: “I think that what you have just said is a little bit insulting to the older generation.

“It makes it seem as though the only thing they think about is themselves.”

Mr Johnson remarked: “I think we would have to be pretty old to have been through two world wars.

“My point is, I think you are slightly underestimating the willingness of the old people to recognise issues.

“I remember the other day I was making a speech in favour of Extinction Rebellion, I know everybody thought that was quite a nuisance.

“Sooner or later, Boris said to me I got held up on a way to a meeting by uncooperative crusties.

“The point I am making is you are absolutely right to say the older generation can be held responsible for the ‘mess’ we are in but also some of the good things we are in.”

ITV This Morning: ‘You idiot!’ Holly Willoughby LASHES OUT at John Barrowman after prank https://briefnews.eu/itv-this-morning-you-idiot-holly-willoughby-lashes-out-at-john-barrowman-after-prank/ https://briefnews.eu/itv-this-morning-you-idiot-holly-willoughby-lashes-out-at-john-barrowman-after-prank/#respond Mon, 21 Jan 2019 11:28:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/itv-this-morning-you-idiot-holly-willoughby-lashes-out-at-john-barrowman-after-prank/

This Morning saw Holly Willoughby left on her own today as Phillip Schofield was off for the day.

However she quickly went on to introduce her I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alum John Barrowman MBE.

John barged onto the set screaming his signature: “Fabulous!” causing Holly to scream with delight.

But John had a trick up his sleeve as he brought out his hand from his pocket.

In a fell swoop he brought out a group of fake spiders and flung them at his co-host.

Startled, Holly yelled: “Oh my god you idiot!

“What are you doing!?”

Trying to explain his actions through laughter, John said: “I brought a little something from the jungle!”

Once they had calmed down Holly and John settled down and began the show.

But fans were utterly elated by the prankster’s actions as they began speaking out on Twitter.

One fan wrote: “Watching #ThisMorning with #johnbarrowman presenting. It is as he sings fabulous and inspirational and cheerful!!!!”

Another said: “ThisMorning John Barrowman on today’s episode. Fabuuuuuulous.”

While a third chimed in: “Aaahhh! #ThisMorning with @JohnBarrowman presenting with @hollywills SO EXCITED!”

Meanwhile other viewers called for John to stay on the show permanently.

One said: “Ok can we have John, Phil & Holly hosting all together please and thank you! John suits this role! #ThisMorning.”

And the pranks didn’t stop there, as John continued to pull out more spiders throughout the show.

Luckily for Holly, John was mostly well-behaved the rest of the day.

This Morning also saw the pair talk to Emma Fairweather discussing her recent car crash with Prince Philip.

During the interview Emma said: “I need somebody to understand that I still have medical concerns.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.

The Chase: Bradley Walsh lashes out and SMASHES screen in unseen clip https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-lashes-out-and-smashes-screen-in-unseen-clip/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-lashes-out-and-smashes-screen-in-unseen-clip/#respond Sat, 22 Dec 2018 10:20:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-lashes-out-and-smashes-screen-in-unseen-clip/

The Chase has been on television screens for ten years and has been presented by Bradley Walsh since its inauguration.

Following a successful series, ITV has released a showreel of bloopers from the show.

In one clip, Bradley is seen getting so excited he punches the game show panel and accidentally cracks the glass.

During the chaser round, the contestant was waiting for the correct answer to be displayed when Bradley punched the panel.

“You’ve put…” he pointed at the giant screen in front of them and then pulled a face and punched his right hand down onto the glass.

The audience could then be heard laughing whilst the contestant standing next to him looked shocked.

Bradley then rubbed the glass before sitting on it and lying down to try and cover it.

“You’ve put…” he repeated, it was then clear the producers in the gallery were talking to him through his ear piece as he responded: “I have. I’ve cracked it, I’m so sorry.

“Ah can’t believe that’s happened! Have we got a spare?” he enquired.

The contestant standing next to him struggled to contain his laughter and Bradley turned to him and remarked: “You know when you get your 35 grand, could you lend me a couple of quid?”

The Chaser Mark Labbett also known as “the Beast” was seen sniggering in his chair as he waited for the answer to be given.

It comes after fellow Chaser Anne Hegerty left Bradley speechless in another unseen clip.

“The Governess” who almost always has a stern composure, was involved in a comical moment.

After a cash builder round, Bradley was about to reveal the correct answer when Anne erupted into a coughing fit.

Concerned, Bradley asked if Anne would like some water to which she replied: “I wouldn’t mind.”

Intent on explaining her cough Anne remarked: “I know exactly what it is.

“I’ve been eating those little Snickers things and the nuts get caught in your throat.”

But it wasn’t until Anne finished what she said when she realised the innuendo, and added: “I’ve got nuts caught in my throat!”

Anticipating a cheeky response from Bradley, the contestant was heard sternly suggesting: “Don’t Bradley. Don’t.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and The Chase: Bloopers airs December 23.

X Factor 2018: Ayda Field contestant Danny Tetley lashes out at ‘QUESTIONABLE’ judges https://briefnews.eu/x-factor-2018-ayda-field-contestant-danny-tetley-lashes-out-at-questionable-judges/ https://briefnews.eu/x-factor-2018-ayda-field-contestant-danny-tetley-lashes-out-at-questionable-judges/#respond Fri, 02 Nov 2018 14:07:11 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/x-factor-2018-ayda-field-contestant-danny-tetley-lashes-out-at-questionable-judges/

Contestant Danny Tetley believes he lucked out with The X Factor’s Overs category mentor Ayda Field after years of nearly giving up on his dream to become a professional singer.

The 37-year-old has already suffered on the ITV show so far after coming down with a throat illness during training, and is still doing his best to recover from the painful infection.

Appearing on This Morning to talk to presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes about the criticism he received following Saturday night’s performance, Danny stood by his opinions.

The contestant was vocal about his annoyance over his fellow hopefuls’ song choices, claiming many hadn’t fulfilled the theme of “Guilty Pleasures”.

“I have got a bonafide throat infection,” Danny declared, before insisting “to sing like that, I hit the right notes, I made all the points.”

Despite not impressing some of the judges, host Eamonn, 57, joked: “Anyway you’ve got the creepy voice for it now haven’t you?”

Ruth then turned the topic to Danny’s mentor Ayda, 39, who has come under fire for not having the “knowledge” and singing expertise required for the job of judging a singing competition.

“I think there’s been a few questionable judges over the years,” Danny suddenly said, clearly taking a swipe. “And Ayda might know a bit more than them.

“She’s also had the fantastic Robbie Williams giving her advice, and he’s a superstar with years of experience.”

Moving swiftly on from the guest’s awkward comments, Ruth showed her support for her fellow Loose Women star.

“She’s very funny isn’t she, Ayda?” the presenter asked, as Danny enthusiastically shared how much the American personality “cracks him up”.

What’s more, the latest panel judge has been keen to have a close friendship with her menses, even phoning Danny and buying him some “wonderfully expensive” honey during his illness last week.

The singer went on to say he was convinced he knew who was going to win the entire competition.

“I know who’s gonna win it, I have a gut feeling,” Danny grinned.

Thrown by his declaration, Ruth queried the final three, as Danny listed off Dalton Williams, Shan Smile and Scarlett Lee as the potential winners.

What’s more, Danny is not bitter about believing he doesn’t have a chance to win the competition, insisting that’s not what he came back on the show for.

Danny first applied for The X Factor 17 years ago on ITV, but was turned down by music mogul and boss Simon Cowell, 59.

He explained: “I wanted to come back and prove not just to myself, but to just carry on singing.”

“And I’m going to continue to help other children, that means more to me than winning,” the star added.

X Factor continues Saturday at 8.35pm on ITV.
