Following the success of Beat the Chasers earlier this year, Bradley Walsh and five of the Chasers will be back for another series of the ITV quiz show. Mark ’The Beast’ Labbett along with fellow Chasers Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, and Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha will return to The Chase spin-off to form the ultimate quizzing force and try and stop contestants from pocketing some serious cash.

Unlike The Chase, Beat the Chasers gives contestants the chance to take on as many of the quizmasters as they please.

However, the fewer Chasers they opt to take on, the smaller the prize fund – similarly the more quizmasters they challenge in the longer amount of time, the more money is at stake.

And while the first series saw the ITV quizzing experts take down a number of budding quizzers, there’s one mistake which Mark said they’ve all learnt from.

In fact, Mark said that the show’s debut series saw many of the Chasers distracted by spending too much time staring at the clock.

The Chase star added: “Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we get it wrong.

“For us, the cardinal sin in this situation is to buzz in and then think of the answer. While you’re having a nice long think, your teammates know the answer.”

But will Mark and his fellow Chasers be able to stop everyone from taking home vast sums of money?

Sadly, there’s no space on the Chasers’ table for new quizmaster Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis.

Darragh made his debut as the sixth Chaser earlier this year in a shake-up to the ITV quiz show’s line-up.

Instead, Darragh alternates with his fellow expert quizzers as he joined as an addition to the cast, not as anyone’s replacement.

Fans will have to wait for a third season fo Beat the Chasers to see if Darragh will make it to the table.

Beat The Chasers starts Sunday, January 3 at 9pm on ITV.

Having accumulated £7,000 in his cash-builder round, the contestant was offered a higher amount of £78,000 but he decided to turn it down.

Though he didn’t increase the jackpot significantly, Paul did make it back for the Final Chase, which proved valuable.

Putting their heads together for the first time, both players managed to accumulate 16 points Mark would have to match to defeat them.

Although it was a tense standoff, The Beast was crowned the champion of the game, meaning the cash total of £9,00 was wiped away.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.

The Chase: Mark Labbett calls out Bradley Walsh after star derails show: ‘That’s my line!’ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-mark-labbett-calls-out-bradley-walsh-after-star-derails-show-thats-my-line/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-mark-labbett-calls-out-bradley-walsh-after-star-derails-show-thats-my-line/#respond Fri, 09 Oct 2020 18:08:22 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-mark-labbett-calls-out-bradley-walsh-after-star-derails-show-thats-my-line/

Mark, 55, was on hand to try and stop The Chase contestants walking away with a grand cash prize in their back pocket this evening. As always, Bradley Walsh, 60, was trying to help the players along the way, asking them a series of questions to build up their jackpot. However, when primary school teacher Ben went head-to-head with The Beast, the ITV presenter was silenced as the quizmaster called him out for using a catchphrase which he claimed was his.

With Ben having accumulated £2,000 in his cash-builder round, he opted to accept Mark’s lower offer of £200 in the hope he would make it back for the Final Chase.

In the head-to-head round, one of the questions both players were asked was, “In the 2017 Star Wars film, who says: ‘The greatest teacher, failure is?’”

The selection of answers included Luke Skywalker, Yoda and Han Solo, with the contestant choosing the latter option.

Unfortunately, he was incorrect as Yoda was the correct answer but before revealing what guess the quizmaster had locked in, Bradley wanted to some impersonations of the characters.

As well as mimicking the Jedi master Yoda, he also took on the deep and sinister tones of villain Darth Vader.

Cupping his hands over his mouth and exhaling heavily, as the Star Wars villain does, the presenter derailed the flow of the show as he said: “I find your lack of faith disturbing.”

However, snapping back and jokingly claiming the catchphrase was his, The Beast declared: “That’s my line!”

Shortly after his outburst, Mark sat back and revelled in glee as his guess was correct, meaning Ben was in danger of being sent home.

By the end of the round, the contestant was sent packing having been caught by the Chaser, who went on to comment that the primary school teacher “couldn’t have played much worse.”

“It doesn’t matter what form I’m on, it looks like you guys had already given up based on your body languages when I walked on,” Mark hit back.

The Beast was unable to defeat Lynne, making her the first player of the day to make it back for the Final Chase.

Unfortunately, her teammate Lui didn’t manage to match her efforts although the mother-of-one accepted the quizmaster’s higher offer of £46,000.

This meant it was up to Roy to put his best foot forward to make it back for the concluding round to help Lynne.

Roy showed just how worthy he was as he managed to defeat Mark and added £6,000 to the duo’s jackpot total, bringing it up to £11,000.

Putting their heads together for the first time in the episode, the pair managed to score 17 points The Beast would have to match to defeat them – although he suffered a further pushback by getting his first answer wrong.

It was a tense final round as the quizmaster stumbled on a number of occasions and it seemed the team were going to outrun him.

However, with six seconds to spare, the general knowledge guru claimed the final point and his opponents left empty-handed.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.

Frances earned an impressive £7,000 in her cash-builder and made it three out of three for the Final Chase.

Sadly for final player Richard, he was caught by Mark, leaving the trio to face off one final time.

And after achieving 19 steps in the Final Chase, the odds looked in their favour.

However, Mark was in fine form – but it wasn’t enough as he only managed to get 18 steps before the timer ran out, meaning today’s players went home with their share of £17,000.

Mark Labbett opens up on real reason behind 4 stone weight loss: ‘People going to hate me’ https://briefnews.eu/mark-labbett-opens-up-on-real-reason-behind-4-stone-weight-loss-people-going-to-hate-me/ https://briefnews.eu/mark-labbett-opens-up-on-real-reason-behind-4-stone-weight-loss-people-going-to-hate-me/#respond Tue, 04 Aug 2020 15:39:09 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/mark-labbett-opens-up-on-real-reason-behind-4-stone-weight-loss-people-going-to-hate-me/

Mark, 54, who is best known for his role on The Chase, spoke about his health in a conversation with the Loose Women panel on Tuesday afternoon. The Beast star is currently residing at home with his wife and young son as production on the ITV quiz show was ground to a halt in light of the coronavirus pandemic. During the nationwide lockdown, the quizmaster has continued to lose weight after coming down with what he thought to be “a typical virus” back in February. With more information about COVID-19 having been discovered since then, the general knowledge guru now believes this to be the real reason behind the change in his appearance.

Speaking to the presenters about the symptoms he had at the time, Mark explained: “The major one was a complete loss of taste and smell and no appetite.

“And I had the cough and the fever and bouts of exhaustion but because I didn’t have problems breathing – and this was back in February where that was the number one symptom, I thought I’ve just got some type of virus.

“For two weeks, I barely ate so at the time I was thinking, ‘Result!’” the quizmaster went on to add.

Asked what else he might have done to help him shed the pounds, The Beast star said: “People are going to hate me because I haven’t tried to lose weight.

“What’s happened is I had the brush with this virus or whatever it was and since then, I haven’t been going out.”

“So, I haven’t been having restaurant meals and my wife is a shift worker full-time so I’ve been a primary carer for our son,” Mark continued.

“As many of our viewers will know, if you’re looking after an active toddler 14 hours a day, seven days a week, you haven’t got time to eat.”

Following his diagnosis of type two diabetes in 2016, Mark took part in ITV reality show Sugar-Free Farm.

On the programme, he explained he had turned down the opportunity to take part in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! due to the lack of food contestants eat.

In view of his 4,787 followers, he wrote: “Gradually losing the waistline 🙂 #skinnybeast #doubletwoshirts.”

Responding to the image, one fan commented: “Just seen this excellent work keep going, Guess there will be an exercise DVD soon.”

“Well done mark looking good. Keep it up. Losing weight is hard, but being overweight is even harder. I lost 9.5stone in 20 months. Keep going your doing great. Awesome,” a second posted. (sic)

A third remarked: “Well done, massive achievement, looking amazing,” with a fourth adding: “Hardest thing to do ever…well done you!”

In another interview published at the weekend, The Chaser also explained some of the other coronavirus-like symptoms he experienced.

“Apparently one of the symptoms they’re discovering now is rapid attacks. One morning I woke up at 1:30am shivering uncontrollably.

“I had to go downstairs to alter the central heating, and I couldn’t hold a pint of water in one hand because I was shaking so much.

“As a self-proclaimed fatty, of course, I was aware that having COVID wasn’t good, and clearly increased the severity of my risk,” he told The Sun.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.

The Chase: ‘You are that bad’ Mark Labbett in furious clash with contestant https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-you-are-that-bad-mark-labbett-in-furious-clash-with-contestant/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-you-are-that-bad-mark-labbett-in-furious-clash-with-contestant/#respond Wed, 08 May 2019 18:20:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-chase-you-are-that-bad-mark-labbett-in-furious-clash-with-contestant/

Bradley Walsh was back presenting The Chase this evening and was joined by four new contestants who all hoped to beat today’s chaser, Mark Labbett.

Simon, 30, Tracy, 49, Marilyn, 67, and Tom, 23, all took their turn in facing The Beast to try and take the jackpot prize on the ITV quiz show.

The first contestant to try his luck was Simon who introduced himself as an aspiring performer and expressed that he admires The Chase’s presenter.

Bradley then asked the contestant what he would like to spend his potential winnings on and confessed he would buy a very unusual item.

Simon revealed that he would like to purchase a “kitchen aid” leaving the presenter speechless before he finally regained his composure and continued with the show.

During his cash builder round, the 30-year-old earned a disappointing £3,000 before meeting today’s chaser which was revealed to be Mark.

Taking a swipe at both Simon and Bradley, Mark said: “So you’re an actor, presenter and comedian who can’t quiz. Great, there’s two of them now!”

Smirking, Bradley agreed: “But it’s true,” before Simon leaped to his defence and said: “Brad’s my hero.”

However Mark wasn’t finished with his fighting talk and tried to persuade Simon to take a lower offer of £300 by remarking: “You really should take it because you are that bad.”

But Simon hit back joking: “Three hundred fits like the Beast’s suit,” before Mark said: “Tell the cooks to get my food on, this isn’t gonna take long.”

Bradley then jumped in and added: “Think the gloves are off on this contest, good head-to-head, looking forward to this!”

Viewers took to Twitter to comment on Mark’s swipe, one said: “Mark is savage #TheChase.”

Another tweeted: “Ooohh – @MarkLabbett is coming out all guns blazing tonight, and I LOVE IT!!!! #thechase.”

The chaser beat the aspiring performer during his head-to-head round before going on to beat the other three remaining contestants.

Tom was then chosen to present the team in one final attempt to win £4,000 for all four of them but once again beaten by the Chaser.

Earlier in the week, viewers watched as Bradley apologised to a contestant after he made fun of the answer he provided on the show.

During the first contestant’s cash builder round, the presenter and comedian couldn’t help but take the mick out of one of his responses.

Martin, a semi-retired GP, was asked: “What cuisine is the chain La Tasca?” to which replied: “Scottish.”

As soon as Martin’s time ran out, Bradley burst out laughing and then apologised: “I’m so sorry but La Tasca being Scottish?”

Bradley called his answer “ridiculous” before Martin explained that he had been thinking about whisky and the presenter agreed that he understood his thought process.

The Chase continues weekdays at 5pm on ITV.

The Chase viewers in uproar as Bradley Walsh accepts INCORRECT answer from Mark Labbett https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-viewers-in-uproar-as-bradley-walsh-accepts-incorrect-answer-from-mark-labbett/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-viewers-in-uproar-as-bradley-walsh-accepts-incorrect-answer-from-mark-labbett/#respond Sat, 24 Feb 2018 13:43:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-chase-viewers-in-uproar-as-bradley-walsh-accepts-incorrect-answer-from-mark-labbett/

Tonight’s episode of The Chase saw one incredible player storm through to the end of the show effortlessly.

Norman, 74, from Morecambe blitzed through his first cash-builder round and accumulated £5,000.

His head-to-head round was no different, as he walked back to the bench with £40,000 and the chaser, Mark Labbett, two steps behind him, leaving host Bradley Walsh ecstatic.

Fans online quickly became enthralled with Norman’s performance, dubbing him “stormin’ Norman”.

Unfortunately for Norman, the other three members of his team were caught in their head-to-head rounds.

Left to take on the chaser alone in the final chase, fans were entirely behind Norman.

Support began flooding in on Twitter, with one enthusiastic viewer screaming: “COME ON, NORM. #TheChase.”

Things looked pretty good for Norman, as he correctly answered 18 questions, forcing the chaser to answer 19 correctly to take him down.

But things went downhill for “Stormin’ Norman”, as viewers felt he was dealt an injustice.

With less than 30 seconds left, Bradley asked: “Which X-Factor star presents the gameshow ‘Babushka’?”

Mark answered: “Rylan Clark, Rylan Clark-Neal.”

Bradley is usually forced to accept the first answer he is given from either players or the chaser.

However tonight, he allowed Mark to correct himself leaving fans furious that Norman wasn’t given a chance to push back.

One fan said: “Err, his first answer was the wrong answer for that Rylan Clark question #thechase.”

Another agreed, adding: “I don’t think he should have had the Rylan question allowed #thechase,” while another commented: “…I thought Bradley had to take the first answer, the Rylan question for example… #thechase.”

Norman was unfortunately caught in the final chase, leaving him to go home with nothing.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.

Russell managed to bag £7,000 in the cash builder round, however, he later chose to play for £2,000 insisting it was the best decision.

His fellow contestants were left stunned by his choice but were thrilled when he managed to beat Mark.

However, the chaser, who is also known as The Beast, warned him: “It’s absolutely the right thing to do if you’re going to be the guy getting 15 to 20 answers in the final chase.

“But if you don’t it was an absolute piece of cowardice of the highest orders.”

While viewers at home were outraged by Russell’s decision to take the low offer, they were even more infuriated when he claimed it was an insult when other competitors were given low offers.

Many fans of the game show took to Twitter to slam his choice as well as his advice to the other players.

One viewer tweeted: “#TheChase Russell…’The lower offer is just ridiculous.'”

While another added: “#TheChase Russell..”the 1 is a bit of an insult”. Well you were insulted with 2K and took it you coward. Alison has more balls than you.”

“Gets £7,000 but decides to take the £2,000? What an absolute mug you are Russell boy #TheChase,” a third shared.

Someone else noted: “If you’re gonna take the lower offer why bother trying so hard on the cash builder?! #TheChase.”

The Chase: Show halted after player mistakes Mark Labbett for someone else in epic gaffe https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-show-halted-after-player-mistakes-mark-labbett-for-someone-else-in-epic-gaffe/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-show-halted-after-player-mistakes-mark-labbett-for-someone-else-in-epic-gaffe/#respond Wed, 01 Nov 2017 19:20:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-chase-show-halted-after-player-mistakes-mark-labbett-for-someone-else-in-epic-gaffe/

When 51-year-old Carol was up to take her turn against the chaser, the player showed her nerves as she made an awkward mistake with The Beast.

“Hello Carol,” he said jovially, as she replied: “Hello Paul”.

Turning to face his team member, puzzled host Bradley Walsh said instantly: “That’s Mark.

“But I tell you what they’re easily mistaken,” he continued, as Carol burst into laughter.

“You should see an optometrist, there’s one sitting right there,” Bradley, 57, quipped once more, pointing to fellow team-member Andrea.

Clearly unimpressed, Mark, 52, shook his head at the marketing manager before lowering his offers as a punishment.

Carol was unable to move on from her error however, and began laughing so hard she was in tears, causing Bradley to join in.

The show then momentarily paused, Bradley asked: “Have you ever noticed when people stop laughing they say, ‘Oh dear?’”

Despite getting back to the serious business of winning money, Mark wasn’t able to let the slight go straight away.

“Well after doing 500 shows, 12 overseas, the first person to not even know my name,” he sniped during one question.

The Wokingham player continued to rack up the mishaps, as while she got through to the final chase, she managed to nearly “break the table” at the end of the round, according to the show’s host.

The Chase continues tomorrow at 5pm on ITV.
