The characters, and particularly Valerie Cherish, had nine years of further career decline to reveal to us in a tragicomic montage at the beginning of the season. It made it all the more biting when, out of nowhere, Valerie was given the opportunity to star on a prestige cable series — only if she’d essentially play an offensive, male-gaze-envisioned-version-of-her-former-self. So while it was a bummer that the return of The Comeback didn’t stretch for another season right after its second, it also made sense: perhaps for this crazy, meta series about television to work, we also need to give the show a bit of time to take on a changed TV zeitgeist. So…has it been enough time since 2014?

At a recent panel, co-creators Lisa Kudrow (who also stars) and Michael Patrick King discussed the potential for a third season. As Indiewire reports, they spoke at the AXT TV Festival, and Kudrow said, “There’s always a possibility. If [Season 2] happened, then it’s a possibility.”

Michael Patrick King seemed to already be ideating, saying:

There’s so much aggressive sales needed, it’s like a perfect humiliation trap.These small shows you’ve never heard of […] on whatever networks you can never find: Valerie would be like Where’s Waldo on TV…TV is so desperate now, it’s finally caught up to Valerie Cherish.

During the panel, they also paid tribute to Robert Michael Morris, who played The Comeback‘s endlessly hilarious/sad hairdresser character, Mickey. (Who sort of seems like a precursor to Gary on Veep.) Morris died on May 30 of lymphoma, which he’d been battling during the filming of the second season. King had a particularly special relationship with Morris, as Morris had been his high school drama teacher; he’d retired from acting before the first season had even been conceived, but King had approached him to play the part nonetheless. Honestly, it’s hard to envision the series without Morris’ Mickey being there to wander onto the camera every two minutes to fix the swoop in Valerie’s hair, or not-so-skillfully insult one of her adversaries.

In addition to (officially) ordering a fourth season of the Jane Fonda-Lily Tomlin comedy, Netflix on Wednesday also announced that Lisa Kudrow will recur as Grace’s longtime manicurist Sheree, who maneuvers her way into the ladies’ inner circle — much to Frankie’s dismay.

Kudrow joining the fold makes even more sense when you consider that Grace and Frankie boss Marta Kauffman also co-created Friends, the show that made Kudrow a household name in the ’90s.

Production on the show’s fourth season has already been in production for some time, making Wednesday’s announcement more of a confirmation than anything else. New episodes are expected to hit Netflix in 2018.

In pictures from the set of the US hit, the 79-year-old looked much younger than her years as she shot scenes on a beach.

Dressed in a pair of black skinny jeans and a turquoise pashmina over her beige top, Academy Award winner Jane looked elegant.

Her blonde tresses had been tousled by the wind but the star was as stunning as ever.

She was joined by Friends actress Lisa Kudrow as the two appeared to hunt for treasure with a metal detector on the sand.

In one photo, Jane could be seen holding what appears to be a belly dancing coin belt or an embellished bikini top.

Meanwhile, Lisa, 53, was pictured in a colourful tropic print sundress and a denim jacket, featuring metal studs, over the top.

She was seen holding a parasol with a dragon motif on it in one hand and the metal detector in the other.  

Season three of the drama is set to be dropping on Netflix later this month and will see her reprise her role as retried cosmetics magnate Grace Hanson.

Lily Tomlin will be returning as Frances “Frankie” Bergstein, a hippie art teacher.

WHEN IS GRACE AND FRANKIE SEASON 3 OUT?

The show will pick up on the lives of the duo as they continue to deal with the fallout of their husbands abandoning them to begin a relationship together.

Along with Lily, 77, and Jane, Grace and Frankie also stars Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson.

Grace and Frankie season 3 will air on Netflix on March 24.

The 53-year-old, who played Phoebe Buffay on the hit comedy, spoke about an awful comment she received from an actor starring in one of the episodes. 

In a recent interview with E! Online, she was asked about bad behaviour on set during her decade on Friends, leading her to reply: “The worst behaviour, off the top of my head?

“I rehearsed without make-up most of the week, and then on show night, I’m in hair and make-up, and I was told, ‘Oh wow, now you’re f**kable’.

“That’s bad behaviour, I say,” she added.

Lisa said that she later told her co-star Matt LeBlanc about the incident, describing him as a “big brother” to her.

Although she did not give the name of the offending star, Lisa confirmed that it was not Charlie Sheen, who played her love interest in the episode The One with the Chicken Pox.

She also addressed reports of a Friends reunion, explaining: “It would be fun, but what would it be about?”

The actress continued: “Think about it. The thing we liked best about the show was that they were 20-somethings and they were their own family. Now, they all have families, so what are we going to watch?”

Since Friends ended in 2004 after a decade, Lisa has gone on to star as the lead in HBO show The Comeback which earned her two Emmy nods.

She has also had parts in Cougar Town, BoJack Horseman and Scandal.

Most recently Lisa starred in Hollywood thriller The Girl on the Train opposite Emily Blunt.
