Saturday Night Live this weekend brought together Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump and Jim Carrey’s Joe Biden, possibly for the last time. The comedy all stars faced off in SNL‘s parody of the second and final presidential debate, during which Trump assured the American people that he’d have a coronavirus vaccine in a matter of weeks. (“If I get reelected, everyone in America will be on a big, beautiful ventilator,” he boasted.) Biden, on the other hand, struggled with anger management. He eventually launched into full Clint Eastwood mode, then defended himself against myriad attacks by the incumbent. “First I’m creepy, then I’m sleepy,” he said. “You say I have dementia, then you say I’m a criminal mastermind.” He also defended himself against baseless accusations that he’s made millions through corrupt business dealings with China, adding, “I live in Delaware, [where] a night out is $ 28… I bought this suit on a train, c’mon!” The debate also featured an appearance by Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani (played by Kate McKinnon), who made headlines this week for a compromising scene in the new Borat film. Once again, America’s mayor looked to be fondling himself. “It’s not what it looks like!” Giuliani said. “My microphone was stuck… on my balls.” Meanwhile, Maya Rudolph ditched her Kamala Harris impression to portray debate moderator Kristen Welker, who Trump mistook for Hoda Kotb, Padma Lakshmi and Mindy Kaling. Upon Biden’s first use of the word “malarkey,” Welker revealed her Biden Bingo card and took a shot. At the end of the sketch, Rudolph joined Baldwin and Carrey on stage to mark the final debate sketch of the election cycle. “Good luck, America!” she exclaimed. What did you think of SNL‘s take on Debate No. 2? And of the four cold opens Carrey’s Biden has appeared, which was your favorite? Drop your thoughts in a comment below. At least one long, national nightmare is now over — and that is the 2020 Presidential Debate season. Who emerged from the six-week fracas with the best crack at winning the Nov. 3 election? President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger/ former VP Joe Biden faced off for a second time on Thursday night, more than three weeks after their first debate and one week after their second debate wound up essentially replaced by “dueling town halls,” the fallout of Trump’s recent COVID-positive diagnosis. The 90-minute second debate was held at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., with NBC News’ Kristen Welker serving as moderator. (Ahead of the debate, Trump — fresh off his Oct. 15 town hall grilling by NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie — dismissed Welker on successive occasions as “extraordinarily unfair,” “a radical left Democrat” and “a very biased person.” But he was genial during the actual deabte.) Following the barrage of interruptions that polluted the first debate, the Commission on Presidential Debates decided that for this go-round, each candidate’s microphone would be muted during his opponent’s allotted time for opening remarks. All microphones would then be turned back on during the discussion portion, but any interruptions will count towards the candidates’ overall time. But in execution, did that all fall under, “Man plans, God laughs”…? The rematch consisted of six segments dedicated to the topics of the battle against COVID-19; American families; race in America; climate change; national security; and the always-important “leadership.” How did Welker fare as moderator? Did the mic muting make the melee more manageable (or frankly mundane)? And who “won” this very final debate, Trump or Biden? Vote in our polls below, and then hit the comments to share your misinformation-free thoughts! Kristen Bell sees dead people — or does she? — as the title character in Netflix‘s The Woman in the House. Ordered to series on Tuesday by the streaming giant, The Woman in the House stars the onetime Good Place resident as Anna, a heartbroken woman for whom every day is the same. (We’ve all been there, amiright?!) Per the official synopsis for the darkly comic thriller, Anna “sits with her wine, staring out the window, watching life go by without her. But when a handsome neighbor moves in across the street, she starts to see a light at the end of the tunnel. That is until she witnesses a gruesome murder…. Or did she?” Bell is also an executive producer on the eight-episode limited series, which was created by Nobodies‘ Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson and Larry Dorf and also counts Gloria Sanchez Productions’ Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Brittney Segal among its EPs. Additionally, Marti Noxon (Dietland, Sharp Objects) will serve as a creative consultant on the series. In addition to her run on the aforementioned and acclaimed NBC comedy The Good Place, Bell’s TV credits also include Veronica Mars, House of Lies, Heroes and lotsa voice work (including as the voice of Gossip Girl). Central Park‘s Molly wasn’t voiceless for long: The Apple TV+ animated comedy has tapped The Umbrella Academy star Emmy Raver-Lampman to voice the character originally played by Kristen Bell, TVLine has learned. “After an extensive casting process that brought a number of incredible contenders to the forefront of our Molly search, we could not be more thrilled, honored, and certain that we have found the perfect marriage of character to voice in the amazing Emmy Raver-Lampman,” the Central Park creative team of Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad, Nora Smith, Halstead Sullivan and Sanjay Shah said in a statement. “From the moment we heard her Molly, we knew she was the right choice.” Bell voiced the character of Molly — the mixed-race daughter of Leslie Odom Jr.’s Owen and Kathryn Hahn’s Paige — in Central Park‘s freshman season, which debuted on Apple’s streaming service in May. But Bell stepped away from the role last month, stating that “playing the character of Molly on Central Park shows a lack of awareness of my pervasive privilege.” The animated series received a two-season series order from Apple in March 2018. A Broadway veteran of Hamilton and Hair, Raver-Lampman is best known to TV fans as mind-controlling superhero Allison Hargreeves on the Netflix comic book series The Umbrella Academy, which returns for Season 2 next Friday. Her other TV credits include Jane the Virgin and A Million Little Things. Throw two attractive people in the life-and-death situation of an exorcism, and sparks — and quite possibly some projectile vomit — are going to fly. So it’s little surprise that Evil co-workers David and Kristen have been inching ever closer since the CBS series’ premiere, despite the fact that he’s a priest-in-training and she’s a married mom of four. While nothing actually untoward has happened between the holy-father-to-be and the psychologist, Katja Herbers’ Kristen had a hot-and-heavy dream featuring Mike Colter‘s David back in Episode 6. And let’s not forget that spiked-sangria slow dance they shared while investigating David’s father’s art commune in Episode 8. Just because David hasn’t been having visions of getting to know his partner in the biblical sense doesn’t mean he’s immune to her pull, Colter tells TVLine. It remains to be seen how much energy David will have to put toward all aspects of his work when Evil returns on Jan. 9, given that he was stabbed and left for dead in the fall finale. But we think it’s probably a good idea to say a few extra prayers for his willpower — particularly, as Colter points out, because David seems to be on a mission to sabotage himself. Kristen is “the only female in his circle, and he put her there,” the actor explains. “He had options to hire someone to work with. Sure, she’s really intelligent… but there’s also chemistry. He chose to do this.” Colter adds that the Kristen/David attraction sometimes stymies the show’s on-set technical advisor, who weighs in on all things regarding Catholicism. “I have to remind him this is television,” he says, chuckling. “Therefore, there are choices that David makes that maybe a priest shouldn’t make. But it makes for great drama!” When the Veronica Mars cast bounded into TVLine’s San Diego Comic-Con suite over the weekend, I wasted no time calling out the dearly departed elephant in the room. And said elephant was braced for impact. “Oh, God,” Jason Dohring sighed as I began to ask my first question, knowing full well that I was about to grill him and his co-stars about the death of his beloved alter ego, Logan Echolls, in the show’s Season 4 finale. After the actor reiterated much of what he shared with me in a phone interview we conducted earlier that week (read that Q&A here), the focus shifted to Kristen Bell‘s reaction to the heartbreaking death, which leaves her titular character a widower ahead of a possible Season 5. “I was taken aback,” Bell admitted to me about her initial reaction to the dark twist, before adding that she immediately worried about the safety of the man who (essentially) engineered the explosion that felled Logan — series creator Rob Thomas. “My first thought was, [Is Rob] going to be safe? Because people will have very strong feelings about this. And I did not think that anyone would see it coming. Because we are not a show that kills [major characters] very often.” Ultimately, Bell understood the thinking behind the controversial curveball. “A story is only interesting because there is conflict,” she conceded. “There’s nothing interesting about perfection. You want to see someone struggle… And you want Veronica in the underdog position.” Press PLAY above as Bell and her cast mates reflect on the loss of their co-star and the repercussions for the show moving forward. And yes, watch as Bell warns Veronica fans that Neptune is the new Westeros.

“He actively chooses not to think about it. But in actively choosing not to think about it, he’s thinking about it,” the actor says with a laugh. “It’s a tricky thing. It’s his conscious trying to suppress the subconscious, but it takes work. You’re already expending energy, so there’s no way to get around it, you know what I mean? Especially for a guy who is practicing celibacy.”

The story of Lizzie Borden is re-imagined with a twist in Lizzie, a film from The Boy and Channel Zero director Craig William Macneill. Chloë Sevigny plays the infamous woman who was accused of hacking her father and step-mother to death with an axe, and Kristen Stewart plays the family maid, Bridget Sullivan. Watch the Lizzie trailer below.
You likely know the crude nursery rhyme:
Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.
Of course, this isn’t quite accurate (what nursery rhyme is?). Lizzie Borden’s step-mother only received 17 blows from an axe, while her father received around 10 or 11. On August 4, 1892, Andrew Borden and his wife Abby were found brutally murdered in their home in Fall River, Massachusetts. Almost immediately, evidence began to pile up suggesting Borden’s daughter Lizzie committed the deed. Lizzie was eventually put on trial – a trial that got a huge amount of media coverage. And while it was almost painfully clear she had done the deed, the jury ultimately acquitted.
Now, Craig William Macneill – who helmed the excellent indie horror film The Boy, and directed the fantastic first season of Channel Zero – attempts to deconstruct the story with Lizzie. The film imagines a relationship between Lizzie and the Borden family maid, Bridget Sullivan, who was the only other person in the house when the Borden’s were murdered. Is any of this accurate? It’s impossible to say, but Macneill’s film seems more concerned with trying to explain why – why did this crime happen? If Lizzie really did it, what drover her to this act?
Chloë Sevigny plays Lizzie, while Kristen Stewart plays Bridget, and boy oh boy is this some great casting. Everything about this movie looks just right, and the new trailer is appropriatley unnerving and hypnotic. This is at the top of my must-see list. Lizzie played at Sundance, where it garnered somewhat mixed reviews. Our own Ben Pearson liked it though(look for his quote in the trailer), writing:
While the film’s eventual depiction of the murders is especially brutal, the fact that it depicts a woman fighting back against her oppressors and the catharsis that comes with it is another element that feels directly tied to our current post-Weinstein climate.
Lizzie, which also stars Jamey Sheridan, Fiona Shaw, Kim Dickens, Denis O’Hare and Jeff Perry, opens on September 14, 2018.
Academy Award nominee Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry, “Big Love”) stars as Lizzie Borden, the notorious woman at the heart of one of the most enduring mysteries in American history. After a lifetime of loneliness, Lizzie finds a kindred spirit in housemaid Bridget Sullivan (Kristen Stewart) and their secret intimacy sparks an unthinkable act. Director Craig William Macneill (The Boy (2015), “Channel Zero: Candle Cove”) explores the days leading up to the savage crimes in a dark tale of repression, exploitation and thwarted dreams.

The follow-up to Disney’s enormous 2013 smash is due in late 2019, and a couple of stars have been touted to join the cast.
According to Th Wrap, Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K Brown are both close to signing up.
Wood has recently been seen in Westworld, while Brown has picked up masses of acclaim for his work in This Is Us.
They’ll join the likes of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel in the inevitable sequel to one of the most successful films of all time.
Bell recently said she was very pleased with the direction the sequel had taken, revealing in April that she had already finished her parts.
“I have recorded the movie,” Bell said on Ellen DeGeneres’ chatshow.
“There will be edits before it’s finished. I know the songs, I know the story — it’s very good!”
Some fans interpreted Menzel’s character Elsa as a subtle reference to the LGBTQ+ community, with her struggles about keeping a part of her identity under wraps from naysayers.
Co-director Jennifer Lee responded recently: “I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film ― that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people.
“It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations.Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things.
“For me… Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us.
“I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.”
Incredibles 2 recently became the highest grossing animation of all time at the US box office, but Frozen remains the record-holder worldwide – after making $ 1.276 billion.
Frozen 2 is out on November 27, 2019.
