This evening the 46-year-old star returns for series 5 of the BBC’s Luther. And with Elba back in the spotlight, it’s not surprising that support for him to be the next is once again rampant. Just yesterday his odds of being the actor to replace Daniel Craig were slashed from 4-1 to 3-1 with Coral. And now following a further flurry of bets, Elba is 5-2 to be the next Bond. A spokesman for the bookmakers said: “If this gamble is correct, we could be set for our first ever black actor playing James Bond as we are being knocked over with interest in Idris Elba becoming the next 007.”

Meanwhile, James Norton is still ahead at 9-4 and Tom Hiddleston remains the favourite at 6-4.

There’s certainly a trend of male leads in BBC dramas being tipped to be the next Bond.

Interest in Norton spiked a year ago today when he starred in McMafia’s first episode wearing a tuxedo in a casino.

Similarly a couple of years ago, Hiddleston starred as a spy in The Night Manager.

And just a few months ago Richard Madden was the favourite while starring in MI5 drama Bodyguard.

He’s now down to 8-1, so perhaps Elba’s spike in support will only last as long as Luther.

After all, Craig only starts shooting his fifth and final Bond movie this March for a February 2020 release.

With that in mind, Bond producers won’t be auditioning a new 007 until at least 2022.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

Check out the previous This Is Us recap here.

Randall Pearson’s City Council campaign gets a much-needed boost from an unlikely source in this week’s This Is Us. In related news:

Who knew that The Manny — or rather, The Baby Man — was such a hit in South Korea? And who would have ever guessed that, of all the Pearson triplets, Kevin would be the one who knows how to say “thank you” in Korean?

Confused? Don’t worry, I’ll explain. We’ll also explore how Beth makes a career decision that we’re supposed to love (but I have some misgivings) and how Kate spends the whole hour waiting for Toby to get out of bed and Audio to take a poop (both are more significant than they appear at first glance).

A ROCK IN A HARD PLACE | Kate’s good-and-bad news travels quickly through the Pearson grapevine: She’s pregnant (woo!) but Toby’s smack in the painful middle of a depressive episode (ouch). As Rebecca, Miguel, Randall, Beth and Kevin learn and share updates, we become aware that Toby has been back on antidepressants for two weeks but hasn’t seen any improvement.

Indeed, when we see Toblerone, he’s in bed, telling Kate he’s tired and turning down the idea of taking their pup, Audio, out for a walk. Kate is trying to roll with everything, she tells Rebecca on the phone while they’re at the park, but she’s worried. Then Audio eats a rock, and things get more complicated.

Back at home, Toby yells at Kate for letting the pooch get into some garbage, but he immediately apologizes. Kate ferries the dog to the vet who suggests surgery but says she also can take a wait-and-see approach, and maybe the dog will clear the foreign body on his own. Scared and freaking a little, Kate calls Rebecca for advice and laments that she’s going to need her mom to live in her building once the baby is born. Rebecca gently counters that she’s happy to offer her opinion, but Kate will just do what all mothers — herself included — always does: Make a decision and hope for the best.

So Kate brings Audio back to the apartment. She’s pleasantly surprised to see Toby up, showered and dressed, which seems like progress, right? Nope, Toby sadly tells her: He thought going through the motions would make him feel more normal, but it didn’t, and now he’s even more afraid that she’ll think he’s a burden and that she’ll eventually leave him. He starts to go back to bed, but when Audio scratches at the door like he has to go potty, Kate firmly but gently informs her husband that she thinks it would be good if he accompanied them on a walk. Toby considers that a moment, then says, “OK.”

Outside, Kate reminds Toby that “I signed up for better or worse” and vows that she’s around forever. Plus: She’s spent her whole life needing to be taken care of, and her trials have made her more than strong enough to support him in his time of need. “You’re incredible,” he says. Then Audio drops a deuce, clearing the rock, and all is well.

This Is Us Recap Season 3 Episode 6 KamsahamnidaAGAINST THE ROPES | In a flashback to when The Big 3 was in elementary school, Jack comes home from the boxing gym with a black eye. (And also with a baseball cap perched on his head in a way that no sober person has ever worn a baseball cap, kind of drawn down on one side to hide his shiner from Rebecca. Reeeeal slick, Jack.) Of course, Mrs. Pearson instantly notices her husband’s injury, and she’s shocked to learn that he’s been sparring instead of just hitting the heavy bag. She makes him promise that he’ll stop fighting other people, and he reluctantly agrees.

Later, Randall comes to his dad to ask for help: A bully named Dylan is picking on him, and Randall wants some rudimentary boxing skills in his back pocked just in case he ever needs them. So Jack teaches his son the basics, which earns him Rebecca’s ire once she finds out. She calls the school to get to the bottom of the problem… and learns that there is no Dylan enrolled there. Randall sheepishly confesses that he invented the problem because he wanted Jack to teach him, and he knew he wouldn’t without a good reason.

But more heartbreakingly, Randall wants to learn to fight because he feels like there are things — such as toughness — that Kevin got via Jack’s DNA and Randall didn’t. Jack assures him that’s not the case, and that Randall’s brain is his secret weapon that he’ll be able to use the way Kevin uses his wrestling moves. And if you think that’s not going to manifest itself in the present-day storyline at some point during the episode, you haven’t been watching This Is Us for very long, have you?

In a quiet moment, Jack explains to Rebecca why he feels the need to spar. “Boxing helps me, OK? It helps me with stuff, stuff I can’t think about. It quiets things,” he says, at a loss to explain it any better. But she understands. So she comes home with headgear for him to wear and asks him to try and be safe while working out his demons. Then Jack tells a story about learning to box with his younger brother when they were kids — from the look on Rebecca’s face, this kind of Nicky-related reminiscing doesn’t happen very often — and then he gives her an impromptu boxing lesson that ends with them in a kiss.

COOKIE CRUMBLES | While Randall is at church in Philadelphia, Beth supervises Tess and Annie’s plan to sell Girl Scout cookies at a table outside the grocery store. Deja tags along. The endeavor is doomed from the start. They arrive at the location too late, and another group already has set up shop. Then they don’t have a credit-card swiper, so their sole customer can’t pay. Then Tess is a jerk to her mom, telling her that she sucks, and the whole thing pushes an already on-edge Beth to her limit. “Shut up, shut up, shut UP!” she snaps, and hustles the girls home.

After she’s calmed down, Beth gets a pep talk from Deja, who instructs her to tell Randall how she’s really feeling. “He’ll tell you that you’re exceptional, and he’ll say it to easy that you’ll believe it,” the teen advises. “Wow, you are really good at these talks,” Beth says. “You live in this house for a while, you learn your way around a talk,” Deja answers. On a related note: I LOVE HER.

This Is Us Recap Season 3 Episode 6 KamsahamnidaBOOK OF REVELATIONS | Randall’s church visit goes south when Councilman Brown, who’s up in the pulpit to read some Bible verses, takes a moment to welcome his political opponent to the congregation. Though Brown’s words are kind, his intention is not: He very slyly points out to everyone assembled there how unknown and untested Randall is in both the community and the house of worship.

Afterward, Kevin calls his brother, wanting to meet up and more than willing to go to Philly to do so. (Side note: This is not a thing a normal person would do — especially if Randall were planning on returning to his Alpine, N.J. home, which is much closer to New York than Philly but still not close at all, later that day.) Already feeling like an outsider in the neighborhood, Randall has his “white, movie-star brother” meet him in a Korean restaurant in another part of town.

There, they discuss Kevin’s obsession with figuring out who the Vietnamese woman is in Jack’s photo. “I’m curious about Dad, too. But Vietnam, that was a chapter in his life he didn’t want us to know about. He made that very clear when he was alive,” Randall says. Their conversation gets tabled when Randall realizes how everyone in the place is fawning over Kev: Turns out, The Manny is VERY big in South Korea. “I think I’ve got a K-pop song named after me,” Kevin says, thanking the waiter in Korean by saying “Kamsahamnida.” Randall is floored.

STRATEGY SWITCH-UP | The meal gives Randall an idea: Focus on his district’s predominantly South Korean neighborhoods, which are highly populated but which have low voter registration numbers, instead of trying to change Brown-loyal hearts and minds elsewhere. Kevin is willing to help. And so the two of them throw together a voter-registration drive/campaign event in a neighborhood full of Korean Philadelphians.

It’s going well until a millennial man steps up and (correctly) calls Randall out for vote-grabbing where he knows he might get them. The man starts to usher his mom and sister away, but Randall steps up and addresses him. And when the sister starts to translate Randall’s remarks into Korean, the whole place is listening.

Basically, Randall says that he sees a community in need and he wants to be the one to help, if the people will talk to him. Then he mangles “Kamsahamnida,” but his meaning is clear. The millennial’s mother — and a bunch of others — are charmed. Back at the campaign office, the young man returns to say that his mother registered to vote that day — something she’d never felt was important before — “because you made her believe that you care.” Turns out, the guy has a master’s degree in political science and experience working a campaign, and he wants to be Randall’s campaign manager. Randall exuberantly agrees.

Then he swings by Brown’s office to tell him that he knows exactly what the older man was doing at church that morning — and it didn’t get to him. Using a boxing trick Jack taught him, aka smiling through the pain, Randall informs Brown that he’s going to win Koreatown.

BETH GETS A JOB! | Randall then runs home to tell Beth the good news, but she is a glass of wine into her truth and IT WILL WAIT NO LONGER. “For the past few weeks, I have been pretending that I’m fine. But I’m not, babe. I’m not fine,” she says, waving off his attempts to buck her up about how lucky any office would be to have her. So he switches tactics: “Join my campaign.” She instantly says no, fearing it’s a pity offer, but Randall works his magic, and soon she’s all in. “Let’s win you an election,” Beth says.

It’s a moment of joy for the Randall-Beth fan in me, because who doesn’t love watching those two — as Randall puts it — crush it? But is it mean of me to want Beth to have a role in addition to supporting Randall in his latest quixotic escapade? (It probably is. Oh well. Tell me what you think in the comments.)

PACK YOUR BAGS | Meanwhile, Kevin interrupts Zoe’s solo night of pampering at a local hotel to bring her a visa application for travel to Vietnam: He’s going, and he wants her to come with him, even though it’s an intense and long trip for a couple that hasn’t been dating that long. But she’s intrigued, either by the subject matter or his zeal or both, and she happily accepts the invitation.

Now it’s your turn. What did you think of the episode? Sound off in the comments!

WWE star knocked out in horror accident https://briefnews.eu/wwe-star-knocked-out-in-horror-accident/ https://briefnews.eu/wwe-star-knocked-out-in-horror-accident/#respond Wed, 26 Sep 2018 07:01:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/wwe-star-knocked-out-in-horror-accident/ WWE star Liv Morgan was knocked out live on TV after being kicked in the head twice by Brie Bella in a horror botch.

The 24-year-old suffered concussion in the terrifying accident on Monday Night RAW in Denver, Colorado, US.

She was competing in her Riott Squad team against the Bella Twins and Natalya when the shocking incident happened.

Morgan was in-ring with Brie when she was ‘Yes Kicked’ twice in the head, sending her crashing to the mat following heavy blows.

The ex-NXT ace gallantly kicked out of the move, even though she was clearly injured and needed treatment.

Incredibly, Morgan was then involved in a triple suplex spot, showing her dedication to putting on a show.

But she was quickly aided by medics shortly after by the side of the squared-circle while the match continued live on air.

Morgan was then rushed backstage for urgent help, where she was looked over in the trainer’s room.

The Riott Squad finished the match with Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan, as fans in the arena left worried about Morgan’s health.

It was later confirmed by the WWE Morgan had in fact suffered concussion and is now under the company’s concussion protocols.

She will need to be medically cleared prior to take part in any further action for the company with no timetable set for her return.

Brie received plenty of backlash on social media for deliberately kicking Morgan in the face, but released a short statement on Twitter following the fight.

“Every match on RAW is an opportunity for us to entertain our fans.

“Our intentions as WWE superstars is to win the match, never injure our opponents. Thinking about @YaOnlyLivvOnce tonight.”

‘I thought he knocked out my teeth’: Farah felt Burgess brunt https://briefnews.eu/i-thought-he-knocked-out-my-teeth-farah-felt-burgess-brunt/ https://briefnews.eu/i-thought-he-knocked-out-my-teeth-farah-felt-burgess-brunt/#respond Sat, 21 Jul 2018 15:48:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/i-thought-he-knocked-out-my-teeth-farah-felt-burgess-brunt/ SOUTH Sydney captain Sam Burgess could be suspended for a third time this NRL season after being cited for a high tackle on former teammate Robbie Farah.

Burgess was put on report for appearing to make contact with Farah’s head midway through the first half of Saturday’s loss to the Wests Tigers.

Replays later showed that while Burgess’ arm came across Farah’s chest, his shoulder also collected the head of the Tigers veteran.

An irate Burgess threw plenty of expletives at Farah and also argued with referee Matt Cecchin, but declined to comment about the incident after the match.

Farah was seen sporting a cut to his lip he claimed was from the hit.

“That was when Sam hit me in the first half. He was carrying on like he didn’t get me, when I was laying down. But he got me on the mouth,” he said.

“I thought he knocked out a couple of teeth there, but it’s all good.”

However, Farah was quick to say he didn’t believe the shot was worthy of a charge.

“I was obviously trying to push in a hole there and he come across. He plays the game tough and fair and there was nothing in that,” he said.

A grade-one careless high tackle would usually would result in a fine, but Burgess risks a suspension should the MRC deem his shot worthy of a charge.

The English international has already been banned twice this year for separate incidents, including a grade-two careless high tackle in April that left him with 38 carry-over points.

He will now have two prior similar offences, as well as two non-similar offences, that will greatly increase his loading.

Rabbitohs coach Anthony Seibold was reluctant to discuss the incident, but admitted a penalty was sufficient.

Burgess denied he was being unfairly targeted by match officials.

“The refs call it as they see it. I think a few tough calls along the way – I’m not saying tonight’s was,” he said.

“I don’t think I’m targeted. I’m just out there trying to do my job, trying to win as many games as I can but obviously not tonight.”

Aussie goal drought continues in Russia1:03

World Cup: Australia have struggled to find the back of the net in Russia, and against Peru it was a similar story, butchering several chances in front of goal.

IN the end the agony was written on their faces, as the Socceroos’ World Cup dreams melted in the Sochi sun.

Dreaming of a win and a place in the last 16, Australia lost 2-0 to Peru even with a 37-minute cameo from Tim Cahill.

Goals in each half from Andre Carrillo and Paolo Guerrera gave Peru a consolation win, leaving Australia bottom of the group.

Even had they won their fate would have been sealed, with Denmark drawing against France to secure second place in the group.

But there was intense frustration that the performances against France and Denmark couldn’t be completed with victory.

Outgoing Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk praised the Australian team but lamented its lack of goals throughout the group stage.

Insisting he had no regrets over his five months in charge, van Marwijk said it was a “fantastic period” for him personally in which he had learned from coaching the Australians.

“It is not a success but also not a failure,” van Marwijk said of his tenure.

“Everyone saw the way we performed and we have got lots of compliments. But compliments don’t win you games, goals do.

“We showed that when you don’t have the best players, you can still compete with France, Denmark and Peru.

“That means you can reach a lot when you work very well. But you need individual quality to decide games, you need to find a goal, and I could not find that solution.

“Against France in football terms we were at last the equal, and against Denmark we were better. Today I have the same feeling but in all three games we couldn’t make the difference with goals.”

Australia knew they faced a delicate balancing act against Peru, of not leaving themselves open while pushing for the win they needed.

An early shot from Mile Jedinak was a statement of intent, that Australia would not be intimidated by either the occasion or the massed ranks of Peruvians.

But Jedinak’s desire also got him into trouble, booked for a headhigh tackle on Christian Cueva.

As if Lima’s Estadio Nacional had been transplanted to the Russian coastline, the roar of support for their team was cacophonic — especially when their team took the lead.

In a match until then of shadow-boxing, Peru suddenly found a perfect punch. A ball over the top of the Australian defence was gathered in the corner by captain Paolo Guerrero, who looked up and curled a deep cross towards Andre Carrillo.

Arriving unheralded at the far corner of the box, Carrillo struck a perfect volley back across Mat Ryan and into the bottom corner.

That opening goal hurt Australia, even more so when replays appeared to show Peru were off-side.

And an Marwijk tended to agree.

“We had lots of chances and shots, but Peru had maybe two shots and scored,” he said.

“Their first goal I think was off-side so we didn’t have luck — though even if we had won it wouldn’t have changed anything.”

Desperately Australia tried to respond, but 24-carat chances went begging. Tom Rogic, playing like a man on a mission, ran at the Peruvians, beat four players but saw his shot beaten away by Pedro Gallese.

Then Rogic freed Robbie Kruse into the box for a cutback, but as the goal gaped for Mathew Leckie, Anderson Santamaria somehow scooped the ball away.

By halftime Australia had mustered six shots, but only one on target, a statistic that spoke volumes — especially when Peru showed them again the art of seizing the moment in the 50th minute.

Admittedly they had some luck in the process, though the move that opened up space for Cueva to charge down the left was elegant.

Cutting inside, Cuevo struck a cross that deflected off Jedinak into the path of Guerrero; the captain struck it goalwards and another slight deflection off Mark Milligan helped it past Mat Ryan.

Finally Bert van Marwijk produced his trump cards, sending on Cahill and Daniel Arzani.

Immediately there was a flurry of chances, Aziz Behich’s shot brushing the post on its way wide and Cahill’s goalbound effort hitting his own man.

Arzani hit the top of the net with a daring volley from the edge of the box, then Behich sidefooted a low cross just a fraction beyond Cahill’s run.

As the game, and the World Cup drifted away, the Australian fans were denied even the consolation of Cahill scoring at a fourth World Cup.

A day of such hope ended in bitter disappointment.

This Morning: Rylan Clark reveals secret plan to 'rob' ITV studio before it's knocked down https://briefnews.eu/this-morning-rylan-clark-reveals-secret-plan-to-rob-itv-studio-before-its-knocked-down/ https://briefnews.eu/this-morning-rylan-clark-reveals-secret-plan-to-rob-itv-studio-before-its-knocked-down/#respond Wed, 04 Apr 2018 00:50:07 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/this-morning-rylan-clark-reveals-secret-plan-to-rob-itv-studio-before-its-knocked-down/

Former X Factor contestant Rylan Clark-Neal has revealed his cheeky plan to steal items from the ITV studio this week.

The 29-year-old TV personality made the shock confession ahead of This Morning’s big move from the London Studios in South Bank to the Television Centre in White City.

“I had a real rob up at Christmas when I left,” Rylan recalled. “But I’m a really honesty robber.

“I say, ‘I’m taking this vase home.’ But we will have a proper rob up next Friday, especially knowing the building is going to be knocked down.”

He went on to add: “I don’t think I’ll be taking a sofa but I would probably want to take one of the studio signs, where it says Studio 8.”

Rylan has presented on This Morning since 2015 and says working there is “surreal” as he grew up watching the show.

“To host this iconic show, that was a real moment,” he said. “Another surreal moment for me was interviewing Richard [Madeley] and Judy [Finnigan] in the Hub.”

Asked what he’s learnt working on the show, he replied: “What I have learnt is how to adapt.

“I’ve learnt to have my This Morning hosting hat on or my This Morning ‘showbiz Rylan’ hat on. You have to be a bit of a chameleon.

“Always be yourself in any job you do but when you are hosting, you have to do things slightly differently.”

He continued: “You have to keep the show in order. But, when I’m hosting, I’m more than happy to throw the show into chaos. I can start talking about something else.”

This week Rylan is hosting This Morning with Emma Willis, who he has worked with on Big Brother.

“Emma helped me so much in the early days,” Rylan gushed. “She always made me feel comfortable. I would go to her every day and ask her what to do.

“Then there came a point where I didn’t need to do that anymore. It was like a graduation.”

Speaking about their friendship, he added: “We make each other laugh, we get on really well and we know when we need to be serious. We just enjoy working together.”

Rylan, who won the eleventh series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2013, said he was excited to bring their “chemistry” to This Morning.

“I love Emma to bits and it’s really nice to work together away from Big Brother and bring our chemistry to a different show,” he enthused.

The TV presenter has been tipped to appear on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing after his colleague Ruth Langsford competed in the show last year.

Teasing the possibility of joining Strictly, Rylan said: “I’m a big fan of Strictly. Last year, I got the chance to go down there for the first time.

“It was nice to go down and support Ruth. Never say never.”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10,30am.

Nottingham Forest 4 – Arsenal 2: Wenger in crisis as Gunners are knocked out of FA Cup https://briefnews.eu/nottingham-forest-4-arsenal-2-wenger-in-crisis-as-gunners-are-knocked-out-of-fa-cup/ https://briefnews.eu/nottingham-forest-4-arsenal-2-wenger-in-crisis-as-gunners-are-knocked-out-of-fa-cup/#respond Sun, 07 Jan 2018 19:24:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/nottingham-forest-4-arsenal-2-wenger-in-crisis-as-gunners-are-knocked-out-of-fa-cup/

Arsenal’s season is now teetering on the brink with the Gunners losing to a far hungrier Nottingham Forest side at the City Ground.

Arsene Wenger’s men fell behind early on when Eric Lichaj’s header flew past David Ospina.

Arsenal restored parity through club captain Per Mertesacker, who levelled in the 23rd minute.

Forest, however, recovered and kept their focus by taking the lead again just before half-time.

Lichaj was the hero again, producing a stunning volley that looped over Ospina and into the net.

The home side then opened up a two-goal lead in the 64th minute.

Ben Brereton kept his calm to score from the penalty spot, sending Ospina the wrong way.

Arsenal were given hope late on when Danny Welbeck halved the deficit.

But Forest scored another penalty – albeit in controversial circumstances.

Jon Moss gave the spotkick after a foul by Mathieu Debuchy in the box.

Kieran Dowell slipped as he stepped up and Arsenal players were sure he had taken two touches for the penalty.

Yet, though Arsenal players swarmed around Moss, the goal stood.

Forest star Joe Warrall was dismissed for a dangerous tackle on Welbeck late on.

However, the day belonged to the home side, who will now be in the pot for tomorrow’s fourth round draw.

An innocent passerby trying to cross the street in Jerusalem on Sunday has been hit in the back of her head and sent flying several meters away by an Israeli police skunk-water cannon, deployed against ultra-Orthodox Jews protesting army conscription.

A crowd of protesters staged yet another sit-in, obstructing traffic at the corner of Jaffa Road and Nordau Street in the center of Jerusalem in protest against the compulsory military draft of ultra-Orthodox Jews. To disperse the gathering, Israeli police resorted to the so-called “skunk” cannons loaded with stinking fluids. Not without some collateral damage, though.

A woman who attempted to quickly cross the street between the police and protester lines was hit directly in the back of her head, according to a video by RT’s Ruptly. The sudden impact sent her flying several meters away and then sliding along the pedestrian crossing.

Further footage showed Jewish protesters being repeatedly struck by water torrents, before police officers move in to drag them away from. According to authorities at least 35 demonstrators were arrested on Sunday for “disrupting public order, blocking traffic, attacking civilians and police officers.”
