Film directors tend to be control freaks. It makes sense. They want their exact vision to be put onto the screen, the exact pictures and sounds that pop up when they close their eyes and envision their movie. They have something in mind, and anything less than that simply won’t be good enough.

Quentin Tarantino is one of these cinematic tyrants. He’s known for being very particular with his actors, making demands and ultimatums. It shows on screen. Tarantino has one of the most singular and unique filmmaking styles today. All of his movies absolutely ooze of his voice, his influence, and his vision.

Tarantino even admits to his controlling nature, at a talk at the Jerusalem Cinematheque from 2016. “I am the captain of the ship, and they have to follow my orders as far as that’s concerned,” said the director, before pivoting to pointing out how he’s willing to work with his actors. “But when it comes to getting the best out of them in any given scene or performance, then I’m at their disposal. Because it’s not about getting my way, it’s about making them comfortable and getting the best out of them.”

Despite his claims that he is sensitive to the desires of the performers, these demands for perfection can sometimes cause issues with cast members. One time, Tarantino’s uncompromising attitude even put Uma Thurman, the star of “Kill Bill” with whom Tarantino had worked many times before, in grave physical danger, an incident that permanently marred the pair’s relationship.

A Dangerous Proposal

In the two “Kill Bill” films, Thurman stars as the nameless Bride, who swears revenge on an elite team of assassins she used to be a member of after they attempt to kill her at her wedding. The films are light on plot, heavy on wall-to-wall gory action. Thurman had already been through plenty in preparing for her role, including some brutal martial arts training.

This particular scene was far more harrowing than any of Thurman’s early experiences, however. During the filming of “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” Thurman’s character has a scene where she drives a Volkswagon Karmann Ghia, and Tarantino asked her to perform the stunt driving herself.

According to a New York Times profile of Thurman, Tarantino would not take no for an answer. “He was furious because I’d cost them a lot of time,” said Thurman, in her very personal interview. “But I was scared. He said: ‘I promise you the car is fine. It’s a straight piece of road.'” Tarantino told her she needed to hit 40 miles per hour, so that her hair would blow in the wind, threatening to make her do it again if she didn’t. A terrified Thurman agreed to do it, but knew she felt extremely unsafe. “That was a deathbox that I was in. The seat wasn’t screwed down properly. It was a sand road and it was not a straight road.”

A Fateful Crash

The resulting crash was brutal, as Thurman drifted off the road and hit a tree. “The steering wheel was at my belly and my legs were jammed under me,” said Thurman. “I felt this searing pain and thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m never going to walk again.”

The crash led to a massive fight between Thurman and Tarantino. “When I came back from the hospital in a neck brace with my knees damaged and a large massive egg on my head and a concussion, I wanted to see the car and I was very upset. Quentin and I had an enormous fight, and I accused him of trying to kill me.”

Thurman’s husband at the time, Ethan Hawke, rushed to be at her side, saying he confronted Tarantino, who was “very upset with himself” and asked for forgiveness.

Thurman wanted to see the footage of the crash, but Miramax, the film’s distributor, would not let her unless she signed off that she wouldn’t hold them responsible for damages. She didn’t sign, and she didn’t see the footage for 15 years.

Uma Thurman was lucky that day. She walked again, she fully recovered. Her and Tarantino’s relationship and trust was thrown away, but her life wasn’t. One can only wonder why Tarantino was so insistent that she be the one driving the car. Wanting to manifest his vision for the movie isn’t an adequate excuse.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wa.) at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, in Seattle, Wash

  • Rep. Pramila Jayapal says former President Trump's rhetoric encourages violence against Congress members.
  • Jayapal released voicemails on Thursday that included threats to "go back to India."
  • Capitol Police data shows that threats to members of Congress have increased 144% since 2017.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who was harassed and threatened outside her home by a man with a gun, says the increase in threats to Congressional members is linked to rhetoric about the 2020 election by former President Donald Trump and other members of the GOP.

In July, an armed man was arrested and charged with felony stalking after camping outside Jayapal's neighborhood and threatening her. One neighbor told police she heard the man shout: "Go back to India, I'm going to kill you."

Jayapal told MSNBC's Ali Velshi on Saturday that she wanted people to understand the connections between stolen election rhetoric and the increased threats that Congressional members are facing.

"I think that what has changed is there's a sense that everything is so unfair and it's been propelled by Donald Trump," Jayapal said. "'The institutions are unfair,' and that the only recourse is to violence and that is an extremely dangerous thing. And we saw it come to fruition on January 6, and now in ways that you know, I've seen outside my door."

On Thursday, Jayapal released voicemails of threats against her and her family. The person in the recording tells Jayapal she is going to get "exactly what you deserve" and tells her to "go back to India."

"Typically, political figures don't show their vulnerability," Jayapal wrote. "I chose to do so here because we cannot accept violence as our new norm. We also cannot accept the racism and sexism that underlies and propels so much of this violence."

Threats to lawmakers in congress have increased by 144% since 2022, according to Capitol Police data shared with Axios. In the first three months of 2022, nearly 2,000 threats made to Congress members resulted in the Capitol Police opening cases.

Congress members like California Rep. Eric Swalwell and Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who is on the House Committee Investigating Jan. 6, have also released threatening voicemails targeting them and their families.

In a Washington Post profile released Thursday, Jayapal recounted her experiences dealing with harassing and threatening voicemails. She said she often wanted to hide the threats because she didn't want people to know how they emotionally affected her.

"But at the same time," Jayapal told the Post, "it's important people understand how ubiquitous this is, and how much a part of our psyche it is taking up."

Power Book 2: Tommy Egan ‘to kill’ Monet after huge Joseph Sikora clue – here’s why https://briefnews.eu/power-book-2-tommy-egan-to-kill-monet-after-huge-joseph-sikora-clue-heres-why/ https://briefnews.eu/power-book-2-tommy-egan-to-kill-monet-after-huge-joseph-sikora-clue-heres-why/#respond Mon, 25 Jan 2021 05:14:54 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/power-book-2-tommy-egan-to-kill-monet-after-huge-joseph-sikora-clue-heres-why/

The first spin-off to Courtney Kemp’s hit series Power wrapped up with an exhilarating finale and the return of a familiar face, Tommy Egan (played by Joseph Sikora). Guest star and mainstay of the original flagship series Sikora may have inadvertently spoiled the death of a major character when the Starz series returns for a second season.

Power star Joseph Sikora has suggested drug dealer Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige) could meet her demise in the second season of Book II: Ghost.

Monet was introduced in the series’ first follow-up as the new boss of Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.), who has tried to balance his new partnership with his college studies in the new spin-off.

The queenpin is initially suspicious of Tariq, though he eventually becomes a crucial part of their rising drug empire by the end of season one.

When Book II comes back for a second season, Power star Joseph Sikora not only hinted at Tommy’s return, but also suggested he could be the one to take down Monet if she becomes too powerful.

However, the star also outlined a strict set of conditions that would have to be in place for Tommy to return outside his own spin-off, Book IV: Force.

The star gave his take on the series when he recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly to shed light on Tommy’s relationship with Tasha St. Patrick (Naturi Naughton).

He revealed: “The reality is that Tommy is a practicalist, so Tommy is not going to deal with Tasha unless Tasha becomes real competition for him or the biggest drug dealer in New York City.”

Reading between the lines, some fans have considered Sikora’s comments as a warning for Monet, who may need to brace herself for Tommy’s return in season two.

The star then praised Courtney Kemp for maintaining the show’s brutal and realistic take on the consequences and corruption of New York’s expansive drug scene.

He continued: “The reason that Tommy is alive is that we had a show about selling drugs, and not just selling drugs, but the consequences, the aftermath, the destruction.

“But ultimately you only had one character who started out wanting to sell drugs and finished wanting to sell drugs, and now that backdrop has outlasted the character.”

As Power Book II picked up right after Tariq was forced to kill his own father, Ghost (Omari Hardwick), Tommy comes to town when he learns Tasha pinned the murder on him.

Luckily, Tariq prevented Ghost’s former partner from taking his revenge, but he could take issue when Monet starts to encroach on his old territory.

Starz has already renewed Book II for a second season, with young actor Michael Rainey Jr. quickly proving he could carry the weight of his own series.

As the world of Power is set to expand even further this year, Tommy could make yet another dramatic return even sooner than fans might think.

Power Book II: Ghost is available to stream on Starzplay.

EastEnders boss drops vital details about Sharon Mitchell’s next step to kill Ian Beale https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-boss-drops-vital-details-about-sharon-mitchells-next-step-to-kill-ian-beale/ https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-boss-drops-vital-details-about-sharon-mitchells-next-step-to-kill-ian-beale/#respond Fri, 01 Jan 2021 08:34:54 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-boss-drops-vital-details-about-sharon-mitchells-next-step-to-kill-ian-beale/

On Christmas Day, EastEnders fans found out Sharon (played by Letitia Dean) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) had joined forces in a bid to take down Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt). BBC One viewers saw the episode end with the Queen Vic landlady trying to kill her new husband with a poisoned Christmas pudding. She is determined to deliver Ian his comeuppance and has a killer plan to execute which Jon Sen, the soap’s boss has teased.

While Sharon’s initial plan to kill off Ian didn’t work, she is stepping up the anti.

Speaking about what’s to come in the New Year, the Executive Producer has spoken out about Sharon’s plan to finish Ian off once and for all.

If crushing a suspicious powder into the brandy wasn’t evil enough, it seems Sharon will continue with her plan to position her new husband.

“Of course the big moment from Christmas was Sharon’s deathly scheming against Ian after she masterminded the attack with Phil that didn’t go quite to plan,” Jon said.

“Sharon isn’t about to let Ian off the hook that quickly, her poisonous plotting is just getting started and she wants to avenge Denny’s death once and for all.”

With the mention of poison once more, does this mean Sharon is going to try again?

The actress who plays Sharon recently spoke out about her storyline and said: “I think [she] realises that if she doesn’t do something pretty drastic all her malicious hard work will be ruined.

“Ian’s shown Sharon how he feels, and she hasn’t really manipulated him emotionally throughout their marriage as they both entered it aware of the other’s feelings – or non-existent feelings in Sharon’s case.

It comes after Ian wants nothing to do with his mother now after she gave Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) a fake alibi – and this is the perfect situation for Sharon.

“She’s been battling with Kathy anyway and this accelerates things for her – she’s breaking Ian down, ostracising him from his family, although some could say he did most of that himself – and driving a wedge between him and his mum,” the long-term soap actress commented.

“She’s become very good at playing the doting wife!

“She’s determined to carry on with her plan and she needs to be very close to Ian in order to do so,” Letitia told Metro.co.uk.

Outlander season 6: Reason Brianna Fraser couldn’t let Jamie kill Stephen Bonnet exposed https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-reason-brianna-fraser-couldnt-let-jamie-kill-stephen-bonnet-exposed/ https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-reason-brianna-fraser-couldnt-let-jamie-kill-stephen-bonnet-exposed/#respond Thu, 24 Dec 2020 01:12:36 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/outlander-season-6-reason-brianna-fraser-couldnt-let-jamie-kill-stephen-bonnet-exposed/

Showrunner Maril Davis jumped in first, explaining: “We did purposefully leave it ambiguous, we did not want to answer that question.

“We felt the audience could make up its mind. I will say for my personal perspective, and this is not talking for the writers, for me it felt like a little bit of both.

“It wasn’t really so much revenge. In my mind I don’t think Brianna’s character is a revengeful sort really. She wouldn’t want to see anyone suffer. She knew Bonnet’s worst fear was drowning and honestly that’s a horrible way to go.

“So I think it was pity and I think she just wanted it to be over.”

The Good Doctor EP on the Decision to Kill Off [Spoiler], Bring Back Melendez and Move Past the Pandemic https://briefnews.eu/the-good-doctor-ep-on-the-decision-to-kill-off-spoiler-bring-back-melendez-and-move-past-the-pandemic/ https://briefnews.eu/the-good-doctor-ep-on-the-decision-to-kill-off-spoiler-bring-back-melendez-and-move-past-the-pandemic/#respond Tue, 10 Nov 2020 09:27:03 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-good-doctor-ep-on-the-decision-to-kill-off-spoiler-bring-back-melendez-and-move-past-the-pandemic/

RELATED STORIES

The coronavirus pandemic hit especially close to home on Monday’s episode of The Good Doctor, when COVID-19 claimed the life of one of St. Bonaventure’s most cherished nurses.

Early on in “Frontline Part 2,” we found out that Morgan had contracted COVID (but had since recovered) after being exposed to a patient in last week’s season opener. Nurse Petringa (played since Season 2 by Karin Konoval) had also been exposed and later died, unable to fend off the virus despite a team of doctors (including Morgan and Lim) working on her.

Elsewhere in the hospital, Claire continued to grieve Melendez, whose spirit was by her side when she returned a precious keepsake to a deceased COVID patient’s Army buddy. Before he left Claire (for good?), Melendez acknowledged that his and Claire’s story had been cut short. He also assured her that her own amazing story was still ahead of her.

On the relationships front, Shaun and Lea were reunited after Lea arrived at Shaun’s place with three consecutive negative COVID tests; Park and Mia decided it was in their best interests not to reconcile; and Glassman and Debbie made peace after quarantine nearly drove a permanent wedge between them.

Below, executive producer David Shore explains the significance of Melendez’s return, the decision to show a frontline worker succumb to the coronavirus, and the reason he has chosen to take the show into a post-COVID world, beginning with Episode 3.

TVLINE | Is that the last we’ll see of Nicholas Gonzalez, or do you have plans to bring Melendez back later this season?
Can’t rule it out, but we have no plans. I don’t want to overpromise in that regard.

Claire talks to Melendez in 'The Good Doctor' Season 4, Episode 2TVLINE | Having had Melendez (or at least a version of Melendez) by her side as she continued to grieve, will Claire be able to pull through in a way that she couldn’t when Breeze died?
Ironically, she is in a more mature place because she had Dr. Melendez at her side for the last few months. I think he helped her through her situation with her mother, and I think his help through [that experience] helped her when [he died]. As he says to her in [Episode 2], this time she’s dealing with it. She’s not running away [from anything].

TVLINE | Is the grieving process as much a part of Claire’s journey this season?
No, it will not be… I think one of the interesting doors that we’ve opened is the Claire and Lim friendship, and how they are going to lean on each other. Both of them have lost something, and both of them have faced great responsibility during these two episodes, so that is something I’m looking forward to embracing, and to people watching.

Nurse Petringa succumbs to COVID-19 in 'The Good Doctor' Season 4, Episode 2TVLINE | Why did you decide to kill of Nurse Petringa?
It was important to us to show lives lost [during the pandemic]. Look, doctors are heroes. Everybody who works in a hospital is a hero, for crying out loud. We owe them a debt that much more during this time because they are literally risking their lives, every single one of them. And, you know, when you’re doing a dramatic show, if somebody’s risking their life, somebody’s got to pay a price. We wanted to embrace that.

Morgan had recently recovered from COVID-19 in 'The Good Doctor' Season 4, Episode 2TVLINE | Just to confirm, this is the last episode that will focus on the pandemic, right?
We will allude to it on occasion, but it is a post-COVID world [moving forward]. Our decision in that regard, it was a very difficult decision. In my opinion, there is no simple answer to this one… no perfect answer to this one. If we embrace that COVID is still among us, that it’s still with us and we are still dealing with it, I think that would overshadow all the other stories we could tell. Watching our characters wearing masks as they are dealing with somebody who needs, say, something as serious as brain surgery, would be a distraction. The distancing would be a distraction.

On the other hand, we don’t want to simply say to the world, to the people who are watching, that everything’s back to normal, because it’s not. The real world is not back to normal, and we do not want to be seen as endorsing not wearing masks, or endorsing not social distancing. The compromise we’ve reached is we are going to have a statement [by Freddie Highmore] before upcoming episodes [saying] that this episode takes place in a post-COVID world — that this episode represents our hope for the future.

Glassman remains quarantined in 'The Good Doctor' Season 4, Episode 2TVLINE | Glassman’s storyline allowed you to isolate 65-year-old Richard Schiff from the rest of the cast. Will his arc this year continue to unfold outside the hospital, to limit Schiff’s exposure to others during the ongoing, real-life pandemic?
We will see him back in the hospital as time goes on, and as we become more comfortable with our own safety precautions [on set]. We won’t lighten them, but we will feel more comfortable with certain things. Part of the decision in that first episode was, yeah, he is an older member of our cast, relatively speaking. We’ve got a basically young cast and older people are more vulnerable, and we were aware of that.

I also think his story was the most relatable story in those two episodes. The vast majority of us have gone through something very similar while we’re at home. We are trapped with somebody we care about, which is delightful and challenging, and we are going to have differences of opinions, and those differences of opinion are on issues that, you know, you didn’t talk about when your were dating or anything like that. We tried to find the humor and the poignancy both in that storyline.

Shaun in 'The Good Doctor' Season 4, Episode 2TVLINE | Moving forward, what next steps will we see Shaun and Lea take in their relationship this year?
The challenge this year isn’t “Can I make her like me?” or “Does she like me?” The challenge this year is, “Can I make a relationship work?” It’s all the problems that we have in relationships, and all the mistakes that we [make] in relationships. There are unique challenges to Shaun, but he also has unique skills that allow him to deal with them differently. I always say that the show is at its best when we learn from Shaun, not the other way around.

TVLINE | You also have Shaun in a supervisory role this season. How does that change the dynamic of the show moving forward?
It’s going to be less about Lim and Andrews supervising Shaun, Morgan, Park and Claire. It’s going to be about Shaun, Morgan, Park and Claire supervising new first-year residents that are coming in under their tutelage, and if Shaun is up for that.

What did you think of Part 2 of The Good Doctor‘s Season 4 premiere? And are you happy about the decision to move beyond the pandemic in subsequent episodes? Sound off below.

Supernatural Video: God Dares the Boys to Kill Him in Trailer for Final Episodes https://briefnews.eu/supernatural-video-god-dares-the-boys-to-kill-him-in-trailer-for-final-episodes/ https://briefnews.eu/supernatural-video-god-dares-the-boys-to-kill-him-in-trailer-for-final-episodes/#respond Mon, 31 Aug 2020 16:40:32 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/supernatural-video-god-dares-the-boys-to-kill-him-in-trailer-for-final-episodes/

The road so far is nearing its end in a newly released extended trailer for Supernatural‘s final seven episodes, which kick off Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8/7c on The CW.

In the new footage, Chuck/God (played by series vet Rob Benedict) makes his presence known in Dean and Sam’s sanctuary, the Men of Letters bunker, and scoffs at the idea that the boys think they can kill him. Meanwhile, Billie warns Dean that “there won’t be a moment to waste” when God starts wreaking havoc on the planet.

Elsewhere, Cas declares, “You’re sheltering a great burden,” to which Dean’s anguished voice replies, “We don’t have a choice. The whole mission is saving the world.”

The trailer also offers a glimpse at young Dean and Sam on their first hunt together in an upcoming episode. (Get exclusive details.)

The 15th and final season was brought to an early halt in March by the global coronavirus outbreak, with filming completed on 18 of the final 20 episodes at the time. However, the closure of the visual effects and sound departments meant that the already-shot installments could not be finished. As a result, Episode 13 was the last one to air on March 23. After stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki completed a mandatory 14-day quarantine, production on the show’s final two hours resumed on Aug. 18 in Vancouver.

The series finale, titled “Carry On,” is set to air Thursday, Nov. 19 as part of a two-hour event. At 8 pm, The CW will broadcast the retrospective Supernatural: The Long Road Home, followed by the final episode of the series at 9 pm.

Fighting back tears, she continues: “But there were some really, some really difficult time because my father was violent.”

As the preview for tonight’s Panorama continues, Victoria admits the topic of domestic abuse wasn’t a familiar issue and as such, wasn’t given the attention and action it required.

“This was the 70s and the 80s, no one knew, no one had the phrase domestic abuse. No one knew what it meant, what it was, what it involved.”

Victoria candidly opens up on one such experience which led to her going to the police.

Greenleaf Recap: At Last, AJ Reveals the Reason He Tried to Kill Himself https://briefnews.eu/greenleaf-recap-at-last-aj-reveals-the-reason-he-tried-to-kill-himself/ https://briefnews.eu/greenleaf-recap-at-last-aj-reveals-the-reason-he-tried-to-kill-himself/#respond Wed, 08 Jul 2020 06:09:07 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/greenleaf-recap-at-last-aj-reveals-the-reason-he-tried-to-kill-himself/ Warning: You don’t have a prayer of being surprised by Tuesday’s Greenleaf if you read this recap before watching — it’s filled to bursting with spoilers.

Unless I miss my guess, there were a lot of Greenleaf fans’ jaws on the floor at the end of Tuesday’s episode. Because, though the prevailing theory was that AJ’s deep, dark secret was that he wasn’t really Grace’s son, that wasn’t even close to the truth. So why did he try to commit suicide? Read on…

Greenleaf Recap Season 5 Episode 3 AJ Prison Rape HIV‘ONLY GOD TALKS TO ME LIKE THAT, JAMES!’ | At the start of “The Third Day,” Darius dropped by the Greenleaf Estate to see Grace before jetting to Vegas to investigate Eden Vale Lending. It was an early flight, but hey, he’d gotten a free trip to Sin City, Grace noted. Actually, Darius had had to buy his own ticket. Turned out, the previous evening, he’d been canned when he’d refused to give up his story on Bob and Hope & Harmony. So “wish me luck,” he said before surprising his old flame with a warm kiss. Inside, as Bishop and Lady Mae struggled to come up with a name for their new church, he also continued to struggle with his memory. “You have got to stop this brown-liquor-at-bedtime thing,” she scolded. But seriously, she knew that there was a problem and insisted that he get a physical. And by “insisted,” you know very well that I mean made the appointment for him. When Charity passed through the room, Lady Mae couldn’t resist taking a few digs at her, especially after she turned down her father’s offer to be associate pastor at the new church. Can’t she see, Lady Mae asked, that if she keeps working for Phil and Judee, “it’s just a matter of time before [they] have you rocking their lil’ cinnamon-milk babies to sleep like a mammy”? In response, Charity asked whether it had occurred to her mother that maybe she had a plan. “Does it occur to me?” Lady Mae deadpanned. “No.”

Meanwhile, Jacob and Tasha paid a visit to Basie’s half sister, Tara. En route, when they weren’t eyeing each other up one side and down the other, Tasha revealed that her husband’s body had been found in a roadside motel. And Rochelle? Nobody knew where she was. Once the twosome sat down with Tara, Jacob got right to business. Basie and Rochelle had believed that Bishop killed their father, Darryl — did Tara think so, too? “Yeah, that’s accurate,” she said. She just hadn’t done anything about it because she’d predicted that one day a Greenleaf would be moved by God to make things right. Key to ascertaining Bishop’s guilt or innocence was a call placed to Darryl on the night that he died. Had Bishop been the caller who’d instructed Darryl to go to the church? Or could it have been Mac? Basie’d always said it had been Bishop. But how could he know? Had he answered the phone? Of course, being as deceased as his father, he couldn’t exactly be questioned now, could he? Finally, Jacob made things awkward — well, awkwarder — by inquiring about the relationship between Darryl and Loretta Davis. After Tara shut down and showed out her guests, she rang someone — who, we couldn’t tell — to report that Jacob had just come by.

Greenleaf Recap Season 5 Episode 3 AJ Prison Rape HIV‘YOU’RE AN UGLY PERSON, AND THE NINE POUNDS OF MAKEUP YOU WEAR ON THAT DINNER  PLATE WILL NEVER HIDE THAT!’ | At the cabin, after Zora helped Sophia get her topless pics off the web (a miracle if ever there was one!), Grace’s daughter began trashing Nikki’s clothes… just as Dante’s former ex-girlfriend walked in. Quicker than you could say, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” the girls were going at it — even physically, after Nikki snarked that at least she could have babies. Once Zora had broken up the fracas, she told the rhymes-with-witch to get out and stay gone. She then reassured Sophia that she hadn’t said anything about the fact that she couldn’t have kids and encouraged her to “write an emo song,” something, anything, to get her rage in check. At the main house, no sooner had Grace reported that AJ hadn’t allowed her and Noah to visit than her mother was going on and on about how handsome the boy’s father was. Didn’t Grace think so? “You know, Mama, it wasn’t foremost in my thoughts,” she replied, “given the circumstances.” But there was no stopping Lady Mae. She all but offered Noah the cabin once Zora had left for college, and when Grace checked her ears to see if she should believe what she was hearing, her mother suggested that, where AJ was concerned, “it is foolish to ignore the fact that one of you gave him away and the other didn’t even know he existed.” Da-amn. She usually saves that level of nastiness for Charity!

All Lady Mae meant, she clarified (too late), was that she thought that Grace and Noah ought to connect as a team in hopes of reaching their son. Understandably upset, Grace excused herself and was followed by her father. He suspected that what had turned Lady Mae so mean so fast were residual issues stemming from their disagreements about Faith — disagreements that had cost them dearly. Lady Mae just didn’t to see history repeat itself. At Calvary, Phil and Judee continued to make Charity feel as if she was doing penance every second of the day. First, he asked his ex to do the welcome at the next service rather than preach. Then he asked her to help Judee with the music. Finally, Judee rubbed her engagement ring in her rival’s face, prompting Charity to ask if she’d ever heard the story of the tortoise and the hare? Is Charity supposed to the tortoise? Judee asked. Oh, hell no, “I’m Godzilla,” she said, “with the emphasis on God,” and if Judee thought that she and Phil could make her so miserable that she’d quit, they had another think coming! Needless to say, Charity was not receptive when Phil later asked if someday maybe they’d be able to talk like they used to. No, he was stuck with the job that he desperately wanted — and a fiancée that he couldn’t stand.

‘YOUR S–T’S GOT NOTHING ON MINE’ | While Lady Mae and Bishop were busy accepting Karine’s offer to be the music director at their new church, Sophia received a call from AJ: He wanted to see her! He didn’t want so much to talk to her, though. He just wanted to say goodbye before he got sprung from his psych hold and left town. Sophia wasn’t eager to let go of her brother, but she promised that she would — if only he’d open up to her about why he’d tried to kill himself. Elsewhere, as Jacob dropped off Tasha, she asked if he’d really liked her back when… or had it been just… you know? Oh, he’d liked her. And what’s more, he still did. But he wouldn’t let her so much as kiss him. Once his divorce was final, he said instead, “maybe we can get to know each other again. Let’s do it right this time.” Back home, he stunned Kerissa by announcing that he definitely wanted shared custody. And if pursuing it put Bishop in jail? “Either he belongs there or he doesn’t,” Jacob said. “Either way I’m about to find out.” On that note, he interrupted his father’s Jane Fonda workout to ask if he’d called Darryl the night that he died. No, Bishop insisted. Had he known that the Greenleaf Estate had originally been willed to Darryl? No again, Bishop insisted again. That was news to him. (Although, given his recent memory issues, could we really be sure?)

Upstairs, Lady Mae extended an olive branch to Charity by way of her old choir songbook — in which she’d written Rev. Charity Greenleaf. “Singing was never my dream,” she said, gazing at the proof. Well, her dream might yet come true. The offer to be associate pastor at the new church still stands, Lady Mae said. And by the time she left the room, Charity had given her the perfect name for it: Eternal Faith Fellowship. Which seemed fine and all but also kinda like the name you’d get from a book of Church Mad Libs. As the hour drew to a close, Sophia emerged from AJ’s hospital room and informed Grace that he wanted to see her. Steeling herself, she sat down at her son’s bedside. “I’m gonna tell you something, and after I say it, I don’t want to talk about it,” AJ began. “I’m sick of being treated like a puzzle everyone’s trying to figure out.” So… what had driven him to want to take his own life? “I was raped in prison, and one of the bitches who did it gave me HIV,” he said. “That’s my life. That’s the situation, OK?” And there it was. So, were you surprised to learn that that was AJ’s secret? There’s no way Grace can let him leave, right? And how killer were the sparks flying between Jacob and Tasha? Hit the comments with your thoughts.

As the fight rages on, Ivar seems stunned by the appearance of an unknown warrior, and Hvitserk warns him: “I told you, you can’t kill him.”

This intriguing exchange has led many fans to believe Bjorn is not quite dead, and continues to fight for his kingdom for some time before he finally succumbs to his wounds.

However, when fans took to YouTube to discuss an in-depth analysis of the brief teaser trailer, another sharp viewer had a better theory.

They said: “When Hvitserk tells Ivar, ‘I told you, you can’t kill him,’ I think he is talking about Oleg, not Bjorn.”
