Mujahid Arshid, 33, a builder, allegedly abducted his niece Celine Dookhran, 20, a Barclays worker, and another young woman, 21, who cannot be named for legal reasons. He is then said to have taken them to a disused six-bedroom house he was working on in Kingston, south London in July last year.
The second victim managed to survive by fooling her attacker into believing they could be together. The woman then called her mother and police raided the property. It was then that officers found the remains of Dookhran dumped in a freezer.
Once Arshid was arrested at the Holiday Inn Folkestone, police went through his laptops and found pictures of his victims. His internet history included searches including “chest freezers for sale,” “at what temperature does the human body freeze,” and “can a person freeze to death,” jurors heard.
Arshid, said to be “sexually fixated” on the girls, was also found to have searched for strong painkillers, sulfuric acid, and googled “acid bath murderer.”
Jurors were told the defendant also looked into “human cremation” and “butchering the human carcass.”
According to Prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC, Arshid had searched for information on serial killer John George Haigh, who was hanged in 1949 for murdering six people and disposing of their remains in a number of ways, including by dissolving them in baths filled with acid.
The serial killer, who Aylett said was known in “infamy” for the acid baths, inspired Arshid to set up a new email address at the domain iNeedAnAcidBathSpace.com.

Police also found a bank payment to co-accused Vincent Tappu, an employee of Arshid, who allegedly helped him to abduct the girls. The pair are jointly charged with the kidnap of Dookhran and the second woman, conspiracy to falsely imprison both women, and possessing a firearm with intent – a taser.
Dookhran’s family wept at the Old Bailey as a police interview with the witness was played. She told how they were abducted by Dookhran’s uncle and a taser-wielding accomplice, and bundled into the back of his pick-up truck.
In the police interview, she described hearing screams and thuds as Arshid allegedly killed Dookhran after molesting both women. When he turned on her, the witness allegedly told him: “No, no, no, we need to talk.”
She said, according to the Daily Mail: “I started fighting, I grabbed him, kneed him down below. He did not flinch at all. I grabbed his face. I grabbed the knife. He started to slit me everywhere. I got my neck slit, my wrists.
“He said ‘Now you’ve got 10 minutes to live and your body will shut down.’ I was trying to play dead. He molested Celine’s body while she was dead and then he molested me thinking I was dead. He’s such a psycho.
“I sat up and he said ‘How have you got so much energy?’ I was covered in blood from head to toe. I was swimming in it. I started saying things he wanted to hear: ‘I love you, we can run away together, we can be happy together, we can have a family.’
“He said ‘I’m not good enough for you, look what I have done,’” she recalled.
Arshid, of no fixed address, and Tappu, 28, of Acton, west London, deny kidnap, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm with intent.
Arshid has also pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder, rape of both women, and the previous sexual assault and assault by penetration of the surviving woman when she was about 13.

On Tuesday, cryptocurrency expert Pavel Lerner was snatched by an armed gang wearing ski masks near his office in Ukraine. It was a kidnap-for-ransom scheme, but with a high-tech twist: instead of asking for easily traceable paper money, the kidnappers demanded to be paid $ 1 million worth of bitcoins. Turns out NY County District Attorney Cyrus Vance was right when he said we can expect cryptocurrency-related crimes (outside of cyber attacks) to be more common as its value surges. Vance made the statement after armed robbers held up a victim at gunpoint earlier this month to steal $ 1.8 million worth of virtual coins in New York.
For the robbers, Lerner was a great target: he’s a known bitcoin authority in Ukraine and is an executive at cryptocurrency exchange Exmo. He was thankfully released (shocked but alive) a couple of days later, but it’s unclear who made the transfer for him and whether he did it himself. His company has assured users, though, that their coins are “absolutely safe” and that the kidnappers wouldn’t have gotten access to their wallets and personal data since Lerner himself has no access to them.
We’re going to assume the criminals have already sold or moved their stash whatever the source was, since they’d have to deal with the virtual currency’s fluctuating prices otherwise. Ukraine’s National Police already launched a criminal case to investigate Lerner’s abduction — it’s the first bitcoin-related one in the country, but it’ll probably be just one of the many we’ll hear about going forward.

Pavel Lerner, the CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Exmo Finance, has been released from the custody of kidnappers after the payment of a $ 1 million bitcoin ransom, according to the Financial Times.
Lerner, 40, was reportedly dragged into a black Mercedes-Benz by men in balaclavas while leaving the Kiev offices of his company on December 26, according to local media reports.
The FT reported Friday that Lerner was “released in a state of shock,” according to Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian adviser.
“We have operative information that he paid more than $ 1 million worth of bitcoins,” Gerashchenko said.
The exchange business Lerner runs is registered in the UK and also has a presence in Spain, Russia, India, and Thailand, according to the Telegraph.
The anonymity of bitcoin and its eye-popping gain of more than 1,300% this year have made it a darling of criminals and the so-called dark web.
The Italian mafia has used bitcoin to launder money for its illicit activities, for instance, and the notorious WannaCry hackers extorted over $ 140,000 worth of the cryptocurrency from their malware victims.
Since transactions on bitcoin’s blockchain network are decentralized and anonymous, the cryptocurrency provides an attractive option for criminals looking to conduct business outside of the watchful eye of government officials.

BBC One’s new drama saw Captain Joe Martin (played by Jeremy Neumark Jones) meet with American journalist Martha Franklin (Essie Davis) to demand that she hand over incriminating evidence.
However, Christmas celebrations at the Royal Military Police base were soon cut short by the shocking discovery that George Markham (Toby Woolf) had been kidnapped by Yusra Saeed (Ouidad Elma) in an unexpected betrayal.
Viewers instantly took to social media following the harrowing scenes and demanded to know that the character was safe.
One fan tweeted “I can’t wait a whole week to find out what happened to George #thelastpost.”
“I can’t believe Yusra betrayed them like that, I was actually rooting for her #TheLastPost,” wrote another.
A third posted: “I’m not gonna be able to wait a week I need to know what happened to George #TheLastPost.”
“Absolutely loving this series. The acting is amazing. Totally captures the era. Don’t let them harm George though. #TheLastPost,” added a fourth.
Next week’s episode will see the RMP begin their desperate search to find George after an apology letter from Yusra is received.
Harvey Tilbrook (Richard Dillane) takes Major Harry Markham (Ben Miles) to visit an important prisoner that may hold the key to his whereabouts.
Lieutenant Ed Laithwaite (Stephen Campbell Moore) also receives intelligence that leads him into danger as the teaser for episode four shows him shooting towards a child of similar height to George.
The Last Post continues next Sunday on BBC One at 9pm.
Michal Konrad Herba, 36, was arrested at an address in Tividale on Wednesday in a joint operation by West Midlands Police and East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU).
He was apprehended on a European Arrest Warrant issued by Italian police, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on August 17.
Michal is the brother of chief suspect Lukasz Pawel Herba, who has been charged with kidnapping and extortion after Ayling was reportedly abducted in Milan.
The 20-year-old model from South London claims she arrived in Italy on July 10, and that she was kidnapped on the outskirts of Italy’s fashion capital by a group known as ‘Black Death,’ which planned to sell her as a sex slave in the Middle East.
Ayling claims she was drugged with ketamine before being stuffed into a sack and transported to an isolated village near Turin.
She was released on July 17.
Lukasz denies knowingly taking part in any crime, but Italian police documents revealed he was involved in Ayling’s abduction in order to raise funds for his cancer treatment.
He reportedly told investigators he planned to sell Ayling as a sex slave on the dark web for £270,000 ($ 350,000) before he realized she had a two-year-old child.
Lukasz claims he released the woman at the British Consulate in Milan before the sale went ahead.
Questions, however, have been raised over whether Ayling was complicit in a fake kidnapping after it emerged she went shoe-shopping with her abductor and had met him during a business meeting in Paris earlier this year.
In her first TV interview on ITV’s This Morning, the 20-year-old defended herself against the allegations.
“It is really hurtful to see people doubt my story,” she said.
“Like when I went shoe-shopping apparently, which was to the camping shop to get shoes for the consulate, people were saying why didn’t I run?
“But then it’s easy for them to say that but when you’re actually in my situation it’s not that easy.
“I was with an assassin that’s always armed, I’d been shown knives, so I couldn’t just try and put my life in the hands of a random Italian woman.
“If I couldn’t communicate with her, or she didn’t care, then I’d risk my life,” the model said.

The British model who was allegedly kidnapped in Italy to be sold as a sex slave in the Middle East will be available for hire after signing up to give after-dinner talks at £2,000 (US$ 2,600) a time.
Chloe Ayling, 20, has joined London-based agency Kruger Crown and plans to speak to audiences about internet safety, sex trafficking and vulnerable women following her own ordeal in Milan, the Sun reports.
The agency’s public speaker clients include Adrian Chiles, Alan Titchmarsh and Boris Becker. It is believed her first talks will be unpaid.
Ayling shot to fame over the weekend after she was allegedly abducted, drugged and transported in a bag from Milan to Turin, where she was held for six days while her captors from the criminal gang Black Death reportedly tried to sell her on the dark web to Middle Eastern buyers.
She was released after six days by her alleged captor, Polish-born Lukasz Herba, 30, of Oldbury, West Midlands. He has allegedly told investigators he buried £180,000 loaned by Romanian gangsters in hills near Borgial, Italy, where he is said to have taken Ayling.
Questions about whether Ayling was complicit in a fake kidnapping have arisen after it was revealed she went shoe shopping with her alleged abductor and had met him during a business trip to Paris earlier in the year.
Ayling’s former agent, Carla Bellucci, said it was “hard” to answer whether she has any doubts about the model’s alleged kidnapping in Milan after revealing the 20-year-old did a topless ‘Page 3’ photoshoot on Tuesday as a way of “coping” with the trauma.
On Wednesday, the landlord who rented Herba the property, Cesare Prati, said: “I know she went shopping. The village is full of people in summer. Why didn’t she ask for help? I don’t understand.”
Ayling’s lawyers said she was too scared.
Her mother, Beata, said her daughter is still recovering from the “terrifying ordeal” and said the claims she was complicit in the plot are “all lies.”
Herba is due to appear in a Milan court next month. He has denied knowingly taking part in any crime and said his involvement stems from wanting to raise money to treat his leukemia.
He has told investigators he was hired by a group of Romanians to rent properties around Europe to store garments they were selling. He also said he posed as a photographer and met with Ayling.
Herba said he was paid £500,000 ($ 650,000), and that he backed out of the plan when he found out the Romanians intended to kidnap Ayling.

Here’s a crazy Orphan Black thought: What if Krystal is the one who cracks this whole clone conspiracy wide open?
In a new trailer for the series’ fifth and final season, the so-called ditzy sestra declares, “I’m getting into a dress, and then I am going to get down to the truth.” (Considering how close she got to it last season, I wouldn’t be surprised if Krystal is the one holding all the answers at the show’s end.)
Elsewhere in the preview: Helena worries about her babies, Sarah plans a mission to kidnap her own daughter, a host of new enemies make their debut (and kidnap Alison, no!), and the man behind the curtain puts Rachel in charge — as if she needed more power.
Per a release from BBC America, “the walls close in on Sarah when nearly all her sestras and their allies are brought to heel by Rachel. Even more harrowing is that her daughter Kira has joined them. With the threat of Neolution having carte blanche access to clone biology, Sarah is desperate to gain control, but realizes she must change tactics to pursue a long game.”

ABUJA (Reuters) – Boko Haram militants have released 82 schoolgirls out of a group of more than 200 who they kidnapped from the northeastern town of Chibok in April 2014, officials said on Saturday.
The girls were released through negotiations with the government, one official said, asking not to be named.
A military source said the girls were currently in Banki near the Cameroon border for medical checks before being airlifted to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.
The kidnapping was one of the high-profile incidents of Boko Haram’s insurgency, now in its eighth year and with little sign of ending. About 220 were abducted from their school in a night-time attack.
More than 20 girls were released last October in a deal brokered by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Others have escaped or been rescued, but 195 were believed to be still in captivity prior to this release.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said last month the government was in talks to secure the release of the remaining captives.
Although the Chibok girls are the most high-profile case, Boko Haram has kidnapped thousands of adults and children, many of whose cases have been neglected.
The militants have killed more than 20,000 people and displaced more than 2 million during their insurgency aimed at creating an Islamic caliphate in northeast Nigeria.
Despite the army saying the insurgency is on the run, large parts of the northeast, particularly in Borno state, remain under threat from the militants, and suicide bombings and gun attacks have increased in the region since the end of the rainy season late last year.

In case you have ever wondered whether the glow-in-the-dark handles inside car trunks are important, here’s some solid proof. An Alabama woman managed to escape from the trunk of a Nissan Altima, after an attempted kidnapping.
As AL.com reports, a 25-year-old Birmingham woman was forced into the trunk of a black Nissan Altima on Tuesday by a gun-wielding man. The snatcher then drove to a service station nearby and tried to withdraw money from an ATM there, using the kidnapped woman’s debit card. As the attempt didn’t prove successful, the perpetrator got back into the car and left – and at that moment the victim was able to open the trunk and escape from the car while it was already moving. The owner of the service station locked the building doors as the woman got inside safely, and called the police.
Later on, the car was found abandoned. Police are still searching for the suspect.
