<p>Tonight&rsquo;s episode of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.express.co.uk/latest/bbc">BBC</a> programme saw Dylan (William Beck) hesitating to read a Christmas card sent from her.</p>
<p>But David (Jason Durr) stepped in to do it as the pair closed the episode.</p>
<p>He read aloud: &ldquo;Dear Dylan, a card from the blue, if you haven&rsquo;t already torn me up you&rsquo;ll be relieved to know this is simply to let you know I&rsquo;m alive.</p>

<p>In a rare display of candid emotion, Dylan said: &ldquo;I miss her.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&ldquo;Yeah I know,&rdquo; David replied before adding: &ldquo;Look, I&rsquo;m doing all the trimmings.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&ldquo;Yeah, thanks,&rdquo; Dylan simply replied.</p>
<p>&ldquo;What are friends for, ay?&rdquo; David replied just before the credits began to roll.</p>

<p>The understated emotional moment between the two friends really got to viewers.</p>
<p>Those watching at home took to Twitter to comment how they had been brought to tears by the pair of them.</p>
<p>One wrote: &ldquo;That ep was b****y brilliant. I cried. Although I&rsquo;m disappointed in that end scene (not the acting as Will and Jason are the best) but idk I want Ciara back and Dylan happy #Casualty.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&ldquo;Noooo Dylan don&#8217;t cry #casualty,&rdquo; another added.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Well that was brilliant. So many issues addressed and then, right at the end, David and Dylan. There&rsquo;s something in my eye. #Casualty,&rdquo; a third admitted.</p>

<p>Charlotte Salt will be back playing the feisty doctor after leaving the BBC One show in 2013.</p>
<p>But her character Sam will surprise her former co-workers as she won’t be with her husband Tom Kent (played by Oliver Coleman) when she returns to the emergency department at Holby City hospital.</p>
<p>The happy couple were last seen starting a new life together so viewers will be eager to find out why she has come back alone.</p>
<p>Casualty boss Erika Hossington confirmed the exciting news to TV Times and said: &#8220;Tom isn&#8217;t returning. We will find out what&#8217;s happened with him and why she&#8217;s come back.</p>

<p>&#8220;We know fans loved Charlotte first time round, so it seemed worth asking her. We&#8217;re excited she said yes.&#8221;</p>
<p>Fans of the medical drama will remember Sam used to be married to consultant Dylan Keogh (William Beck) and the show&#8217;s producer teased she will be interacting with her ex-husband.</p>
<p>The character will also be in contact with her former flame paramedic Iain Dean who put a spanner in the works between Sam and Tom.</p>
<p>But viewers shouldn’t expect Sam to return as her former self as Erika added: “She wont be be in the guise you’re used to seeing her in, but I can’t say anymore than that!’</p>

<p>Charlotte, 31, will begin filming at the end of May and she&#8217;s certainly excited to return to the popular show as she admitted she’s “thrilled” to be back.</p>
<p>She said: “Sam was always such a kick-ass female role so it’s really exciting to be telling her story again.”</p>
