The Reds were stunned in Naples tonight, with Lorenzo Insigne netting a 90th-minute goal in a 1-0 win.

Liverpool struggled to get going against Napoli, with the Serie A side impressing against Klopp’s men.

The Reds, who were sloppy all night, were also handed a major blow with Naby Keita being stretchered off after 15 minutes.

And Klopp says Liverpool struggled to deal with Napoli’s free-flowing play, claiming his side weren’t smart enough against the Italian giants.

“We had our moments, but too often the formation was not right or we moved in the wrong spaces,” said Klopp.

“The job of the midfield three was nearly impossible.

“You have to stay calm in a situation like that, but we were too hectic with the ball.

“They were on their bikes. We let them do what they did.

“We had good moments, but not enough. A 0-0 away from home is OK, but we made a mistake before their goal.

“That’s the second time this season that we have conceded a goal like that.

“Sometimes Bobby [Firmino] ran too long with the ball, or Sadio [Mane] ran too long. When that happens, you cannot produce.

“The midfielders or the full-backs tried to go forward, but we lost the ball and had to go back in the other direction.

“It was intense, but we caused the intensity of the game ourselves.

“It was an interesting looking group before we started and it’s still interesting now. We want to play better than we did tonight, but even if we don’t play brilliantly, we want a result.

“Tonight we just weren’t good enough, we weren’t as good as we could be. The defeat is deserved.

“The boys did so far a brilliant job but it wasn’t meant to be tonight. We weren’t quick enough, we weren’t smart enough.”

On Keita’s injury, Klopp added: “Back problem, that’s what I heard. We don’t know anything yet. We will have to wait.”

It’s Liverpool’s second defeat of the season, after their Carabao Cup defeat against Chelsea last week.

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon, with the Reds facing Manchester City in a top of the table showdown (4:30pm kick off).

A win for Klopp’s men would send the Reds to the top of the Premier League.

Big hint Liverpool deal will happen https://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-to-wave-goodbye-to-rb-leipzig-fans-today-big-hint-liverpool-deal-will-happen/ https://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-to-wave-goodbye-to-rb-leipzig-fans-today-big-hint-liverpool-deal-will-happen/#respond Sat, 13 Jan 2018 12:41:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-to-wave-goodbye-to-rb-leipzig-fans-today-big-hint-liverpool-deal-will-happen/

Price, who is a reliable source of German football news, understands Keita has been playing up at Leipzig in a bid to get sold to Liverpool.

The club themselves are determined to resist any approach from Liverpool to move the midfielder earlier than scheduled.

The Reds have an agreement in place for the Guinea international to join them in July but they now want him in January following the £142million sale of Philippe Coutinho.

Leipzig play Schalke today at home and it could be Keita’s final chance to say goodbye to the fans.

Price told Express Sport: “Leipzig face Schalke in the clash of the weekend in the Bundesliga. Win and they potentially go second, lose and there will be a five-point gap.

“But it will be important for more than just the league table.

“Leipzig don’t play at home for another two weeks after this one and it’s likely what happens here could be a big indicator of Keita’s mindset.

“We saw Coutinho wave to all corners of Anfield days before he was sold to Barcelona and Keita could do the same.

“While the last few weeks have been difficult, it’s a club he holds in high regard and he wants to go out in good grace. He doesn’t want to be remembered with any bad feelings.”

Boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has tried to dismiss the chances of a departure and said: “The situation hasn’t changed

“We have always said that there’s no reason to let Keita leave early and that’s the way it will be.

“Keita will play against Schalke this weekend and hopefully he’ll play well. That’s the only thing I’m interested in.”

And now a picture of Keita holding the Liverpool shirt with the number 8 on has emerged online.

It is grainy and could well be a fake but it is another talking point in the on-going saga.

Yesterday Keita registered a company in the UK amid claims the deal would be complete by Sunday and he would wave goodbye to Leipzig fans this weekend.

A company under the name ‘NK8 LIMITED’ has been registered on the Companies House website. Two people are listed as officers – Naby Deco Keita and Bjorn Alexander Bezemer.

Bundesliga journalist Chris Williams then tweeted: “Information from within Leipzig this evening that Naby Keita will become a Liverpool player on Sunday.”

Liverpool to sign Naby Keita on SUNDAY as Leipzig star registers company in the UK https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-to-sign-naby-keita-on-sunday-as-leipzig-star-registers-company-in-the-uk/ https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-to-sign-naby-keita-on-sunday-as-leipzig-star-registers-company-in-the-uk/#respond Sat, 13 Jan 2018 06:43:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/liverpool-to-sign-naby-keita-on-sunday-as-leipzig-star-registers-company-in-the-uk/

Liverpool have a £51million deal in place for Keita to arrive on July 1 but following Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona, Liverpool have been assessing their options on how to replace him.

RB Leipzig have been adamant that Keita would remain at the club until the end of the season.

But it appears the situation has taken a dramatic twist.

A company under the name ‘NK8 LIMITED’ has been registered on the Companies House website. Two people are listed as officers – Naby Deco Keita and Bjorn Alexander Bezemer.

And the website states Keita was appointed as a director on January 11.

Respected German football expert Raphael Honigstein wrote on Twitter: “interesting. it’s legit.”

And journalist Chris Williams also tweeted: “Information from within Leipzig this evening that Naby Keita will become a Liverpool player on Sunday.”

Leipzig play Schalke on Saturday which could be Keita’s last game despite coach Ralph Hasenhuttl insisting Keita would remain at the club for the rest of the season.

“The current situation is that nothing changed. We do not have a reason to sell Keita any time before the end of the season. That’s it,” Hasenhuttl said.

“He will play at the weekend against Schalke 04 and hopefully he does well. That’s the only thing I really care about.”

Hasenhüttl added: “I think that Naby wants to finish the season in a good way in Leipzig. He wants to leave a good impression.

“He made many good games for the club – in my opinion I think that he will put everything into the rest of the season.

“He probably wants to do some self-promotion before he leaves. He does not want to leave without showing all his qualities since he had some weak games in the first part of the season.”

Naby Keita 'wants Liverpool move now' and could force January transfer – EXCLUSIVE https://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-wants-liverpool-move-now-and-could-force-january-transfer-exclusive/ https://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-wants-liverpool-move-now-and-could-force-january-transfer-exclusive/#respond Mon, 25 Dec 2017 15:05:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-wants-liverpool-move-now-and-could-force-january-transfer-exclusive/

Keita, 22, agreed a move to Liverpool over the summer but has to wait until July 2018 to make it.

But Lee Price, who has written two books on the Bundesliga, claims Keita is desperate to change the terms of the deal.

That follows Leipzig being dumped out the Champions League while a title tilt hasn’t got off the ground.

“The Naby Keita transfer saga had appeared to resolve itself – the midfielder was due to move to Liverpool in the summer, and that’s that,” Price exclusively told Express Sport.

“But the Guinean himself might have a say in the matter.

“Leipzig’s novelty is wearing off – they’re fifth in the Bundesliga this season, and have been demoted to the Europa League, where they face a tough tie against Napoli.

“For Keita, the challenge has almost gone, and he ideally wants to move to Liverpool now.

“The player doesn’t intend to rock the boat hugely in Leipzig, and is relishing the winter break in Germany, but his camp is expected to push for a move upon his return to training in January.”

TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest deals ahead of January

Keita was Jurgen Klopp’s No 1 target throughout the close season but he was left frustrated as RB Leipzig said he was going nowhere.

However, Liverpool were so desperate to get their man they entered talks in a deal which would see the player join a year later.

Keita had an exit clause of £48million in his contract but Leipzig were prepared to negotiate to secure an additional premium, taking the fee potentially beyond £50m.

Liverpool had earlier bids of £57m and £66m in an effort to force an immediate sale.

The huge fee is the highest the club have ever paid.

Liverpool tracked Keita all summer but their transfer approaches were rebuffed by Leipzig.

However, in the final week of the transfer window, Liverpool agreed a club-record deal to sign the midfielder next summer.

The Reds paid Keita’s £48million release clause and an undisclosed premium to seal the deal a year early.

And Mintzlaff has admitted Leipzig did not expect a club to pay so much for Keita.

“We would have never given Naby Keita away if it had not been for the release clause,” Mintzlaff told German outlet Kicker.

“When we agreed on [the clause], we did not presume that only after a few months there’d be a club willing to pay significantly more.”

Keita has had a turbulent season so far for club and country.

The Guinea international was sent off against Borussia Monchengladbach for a high tackle in September.

And last week he scored but was then sent off in their 4-1 defeat to Tunisia.

But he insisted last month that his move to Liverpool will not affect him.

“For the rest of my time at Leipzig, my commitment will remain as strong as it ever was,” Keita told Sport Bild.

“Since I’ve worn the Leipzig shirt I’ve always given my all – and that will remain the case until the final whistle on my final appearance for the club.

“My future has been sorted now and I can fully concentrate on helping us achieve our objectives this season.”

Liverpool will 'almost certainly' make January approach to sign Naby Keita early – report https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-will-almost-certainly-make-january-approach-to-sign-naby-keita-early-report/ https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-will-almost-certainly-make-january-approach-to-sign-naby-keita-early-report/#respond Fri, 29 Sep 2017 20:08:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/liverpool-will-almost-certainly-make-january-approach-to-sign-naby-keita-early-report/

Keita has agreed to Liverpool next summer after Jurgen Klopp tried to bring him to Anfield during the transfer window.

But the Liverpool ECHO claim the Reds will ask RB Leipzig if they can take him early.

Although it is suggested the Bundesliga side are likely to try and keep their midfielder – even offered more money during the winter.

Keita’s move was one of the sagas of the summer after Liverpool tried to sign him for around £75m.

But they eventually did a deal for him to join the club next summer due to a release clause that activates next year.

However the midfielder has struggled this term since signing off on the agreement.

He was sent off for a Sadio Mane-like tackle in the league and was slammed by the boss for his performance during the Champions League defeat to Besiktas.

Ralph Hasenhuttl questioned his commitment and suggested he could dropped for upcoming games.

“Naby was not good today, maybe it would have been better not to have taken him,” he said.

“For me, as a coach, it is important to see who I can rely on at such moments, which players stand up and who is ready to fight against what is going on on the field.”

Liverpool have also suffered a dip in form since the transfer window closed and were beaten 5-0 by Manchester City and held by Burnley in the league.

They have taken just two points in the Champions League and are out of the EFL Cup.

However victory on Sunday against Newcastle could move them back up to third if other results go their way.

Liverpool stepping up Thomas Lemar bid after club-record Naby Keita deal sealed https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-stepping-up-thomas-lemar-bid-after-club-record-naby-keita-deal-sealed/ https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-stepping-up-thomas-lemar-bid-after-club-record-naby-keita-deal-sealed/#respond Tue, 29 Aug 2017 07:09:28 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/liverpool-stepping-up-thomas-lemar-bid-after-club-record-naby-keita-deal-sealed/

But the Merseyside club insist the late activity before the transfer window closes on Thursday is not linked to the future of Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho, who they say is staying at Anfield regardless of who they buy.

Barcelona, who have just signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for £140m, are still hoping to prise the Brazilian away with sporting director Robert Fernandez saying: “It’s true we are in negotiations over a player to try and sign them. We hope to reach a deal and present a new player.”

Liverpool remain adamant Coutinho is not moving to the Nou Camp even if Klopp is successful in his bid for Lemar, who can play either as a central or wide midfielder.

Monaco however are understood to be reluctant to sell yet another player this summer after losing Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy and Timoue Bakyoko.

Arsenal are also interested in Lemar but Arsene Wenger insisted last week that his former club had told him the 21-year-old France international was not for sale.

Liverpool are bracing themselves for disappointment in their chase for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is set to join Chelsea.

One player who will be arriving on Merseyside is Klopp’s long-term target Keita – but not until the end of the season.

Red Bull Leipzig have finally agreed to sell the Guinea international for a premium on top of his £48m release-clause figure, which kicks in next summer.

Keita had a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training complex yesterday but will return to Leipzig for the season.

The Bundesliga club rejected a £66m offer from Liverpool earlier this summer but faced losing him for £48m next summer when his release clause came into affect and have decided to maximise the fee – which could be around £70m – while giving themselves a year to find a replacement.

Their stance was also influenced by the fact Keita has set his heart on a move to Anfield.

Simon Mignolet will be staying at Anfield despite being dropped from the squad for yesterday’s win over Arsenal. Napoli have shown interest but Klopp says the goalkeeper will be back in the team for the visit to Manchester City after the international break.

Meanwhile, Dejan Lovren says Liverpool’s front three are the best in the Premier League and will frighten the life out of defences with their pace this season.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and summer signing Mohamed Salah scored the first three goals in the impressive 4-0 win over Arsenal – with the fourth coming from another attacker, substitute Daniel Sturridge. The trio have all scored three goals so far and Lovren is predicting many more.

The Croatian defender said: “They are the best. They caused Arsenal a lot of problems. I’m lucky that I don’t have to face them very often in training. It tends to be the guys who aren’t in the first XI.

“All three of them are top players. They have pace and great quality. They are amazing. It would be quite difficult for any defender when you are up against Salah, Mane and Firmino.

“It’s a long season and we will see towards the end of the season who is in the first place. But you can see the difference those three players make.”

Liverpool transfer news: Naby Keita deal agreed for 2018, medical undergone today https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-transfer-news-naby-keita-deal-agreed-for-2018-medical-undergone-today/ https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-transfer-news-naby-keita-deal-agreed-for-2018-medical-undergone-today/#respond Mon, 28 Aug 2017 19:13:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/liverpool-transfer-news-naby-keita-deal-agreed-for-2018-medical-undergone-today/

Liverpool have paid a premium on the release clause of £48m which comes into effect next summer and Keita is having a medical today.

Keita will sign for Liverpool on July 1 2018.

Liverpool has seen bids of up to £66m rejected for Keita after trying to get him all summer.

But they have now done a deal to sign him next summer, paying a premium on his release clause, following Barcelona’s interest in the midfielder.

Barcelona started to look at the 22-year-old as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho, but Liverpool have now pipped them to a deal.

It comes hours after Liverpool also made a £66m move for Monaco ace Thomas Lemar.

Liverpool have only signed three players this summer with Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Dominic Solanke joining.

But the deal for Keita will be for a club-record fee, unless Lemar does sign.

Klopp was coy on transfers when asked about his activity in the coming days after the 4-0 win over Arsenal.

“We will see,” he said.

“With no games, I hope you can enjoy the next five or six days with all the rumours around and all that stuff. I’m not looking forward to it, but it’s part of the game.”

But with the Lemar bid coming this morning and the deal being agreed for Keita Liverpool have acted swiftly despite the strong start to the Premier League season.

Liverpool moved up to second with yesterday’s sensational win after the tore Arsenal apart at Anfield.

Keita was seen to be a replacement for Emre Can who was superb yesterday but has just 12 months on his current deal.

Both deals point to a possible exit for Coutinho, who Barcelona are set to make another bid worth around £148m for.

Barcelona are growing confident of getting Coutinho and Liverpool’s activity today would suggest they are close to agreeing a sale for the Brazil star.

Liverpool have rejected three bids for Coutinho but he has requested a transfer and is yet to play this season.

Owners FSG are adamant he will not be sold and Klopp says he has been injured.

Liverpool ended Naby Keita interest two weeks ago, will bid next summer – Dharmesh Sheth https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-ended-naby-keita-interest-two-weeks-ago-will-bid-next-summer-dharmesh-sheth/ https://briefnews.eu/liverpool-ended-naby-keita-interest-two-weeks-ago-will-bid-next-summer-dharmesh-sheth/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2017 19:10:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/liverpool-ended-naby-keita-interest-two-weeks-ago-will-bid-next-summer-dharmesh-sheth/

Keita has been subject of multiple bids from Liverpool this summer but the Reds look to have conceded defeat.

Leipzig have always stood firm in their stance that the Guinea international was not for sale in this transfer window and they look to have got their wish.

Liverpool had offers of around £60million rejected but Keita will be available for significantly less than that next year.

He has a release clause of £48million which kicks in at the end of this season and Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth says Liverpool will look to activate that.

“Staying with Liverpool and developments on RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita,” Sheth said on Sky Sports News.

“We’re told Liverpool effectively ended their interest in the player two weeks ago when their second and final bid was rejected.

“It’s understood they will leave any interest until next summer when a £48million release clause kicks in.

“A senior official at RB Leipzig told us last week Keita will 100 per cent not be sold in this window.

“That has been their stance time after time this month.”

Keita made 31 Bundesliga in his first season at Leipzig last term, scoring eight goals.

Naby Keita to Liverpool off: Jurgen Klopp plans £48m deal for next summer https://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-to-liverpool-off-jurgen-klopp-plans-48m-deal-for-next-summer/ https://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-to-liverpool-off-jurgen-klopp-plans-48m-deal-for-next-summer/#respond Fri, 28 Jul 2017 18:10:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/naby-keita-to-liverpool-off-jurgen-klopp-plans-48m-deal-for-next-summer/

Keita had been Liverpool‘s primary midfield transfer target this summer and had bids of £57million and £66m rejected by RB Leipzig.

They were even prepared to offer as much as £70m for the star with manager Jurgen Klopp desperate to add more strength in depth to his squad to mount a challenge in the Premier League and Champions League

However, Bundesliga side Leipzig have been steadfast in their refusal to sell Keita and it appears Klopp has given up hope of bringing the Guinea international to Anfield.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have dropped their interest in Keita and admitted defeat in trying to convince Leipzig to sell.

But the report says Liverpool will attempt to sign Keita in 2018 when his £48m release clause comes into effect.

And Klopp will now consider other targets to boost his team with just two weeks until the season starts.

Earlier this week, Keita was caught up in controversy when he made a late tackle on team-mate Diego Demme in training.

Demme needed treatment after the wild lunge and Keita later apologised for his actions.

While Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick was forced to explain his comments after implying Keita’s head had been turned by “a whole village in Guinea”.

Liverpool continue their preparations for the new season with a friendly against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
