Tottenham can move just a point below Manchester City with a victory after their defeat to Crystal Palace yesterday. While Everton are looking to get back into the top half of the table after slipping down to 11th. They would go up to seventh with a win and be just two points behind Manchester United. Everton team: Pickford, Keane, Zouma, Coleman, Digne, Gomes, Davis, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin Tottenham team: Lloris (C), Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane. Kane was the Wembley hero as he scored twice after Spurs had gone behind when Luuk de Jong shocked the home side after only SIXTY TWO seconds. Spurs were heading out of the Champions league with just 12 minutes left on the clock, but their talisman pulled one back with a scrappy effort and completed the comeback in the 89th minute. And the England striker said he was pleased to make amends after suffering defeat in the reverse fixture back in Eindhoven. “We said we were disappointed coming away from there,” Kane said. “Today it wasn’t ideal conceding early but then we were dominant and created chances. “We could have been more clinical but we’ll just take a win in the Champions League. We had to dig deep and find another level when it mattered. “We have been grinding results out here and there all season. We are getting wins. Today was one of our best performances of the season.” Spurs were stunned into action after De Jong rose highest to head past Gazzaniga and silence the home crowd in the second minute. Mauricio Pochettino’s side responded well but were frustrated by the excellent Jeroen Zoet in the PSV goal. The Dutchman pulled of a brilliant double-save in the first half to deny Christian Eriksen and then Dele Alli, who was making his return to the side after injury. Spurs dominated possession but struggled to find a way past Zoet until Kane eventually did on 78 minutes. A long ball forward found substitute Fernando Llorente and the Spaniard perfectly cushioned it into Kane’s path. Kane let the ball bounce once before unleashing a left-foot drive that bounced into the ground before finding the bottom corner. Zoet was agonisingly close to the equaliser but there was nothing he could do about the fortunate winner. Full-back Ben Davies looped a cross over from the left-wing and Kane rose highest to head home via deflections off TWO PSV defenders on its way in. Spurs can still qualify for the knockout stage but have it all to do o as they face Inter Milan at home next before a trip to the Nou Camp to play Barcelona. They played out a 1-1 draw at the San Siro on Tuesday. Spurs stay third in Group B – three points behind second-placed Inter and a further three behind Barca. And Pochettino was quick to praise his players for keeping them in with a shout of making the last 16. “It was a tough game. We played very good and created a lot of chances. We took a risk in the second half,” the Spurs boss said. “The team deserved the victory. We won and suffered a lot. “It was a massive effort so I was pleased. We play a lot in eight days. Now we need to try to recover for Saturday [at Crystal Palace]. “It is another must-win game. We are confident. This team is growing up. The team is fighting so I am so happy. “We tried to fight. We have the character of never giving up which is so important. I am happy always with the situation. “Today we kept pushing and that victory is so important.” Spain captain Ramos will tonight be attempting to lead his side to back-to-back victories against Kane and England when they clash in the Nations League here in Seville. Spain won 2-1 at Wembley last month in the opening game of both countries’ Nations League campaigns, with goals from Saul and Rodrigo, after Marcus Rashford had given Gareth Southgate’s team an early lead. England kept their hopes alive with a goalless draw in Croatia on Friday night, but it was a game that marked Tottenham striker Kane’s sixth successive England appearance without a goal – a worrying drought at a key time. Ramos, though, is a fan and believes that Kane, who will again lead the England attack tonight at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, home of Real Betis, has the technical skills to play alongside him in La Liga. ENGLAND TEAM NEWS: WHO WILL START AGAINST SPAIN? Kane was the only player 33-year-old legend Ramos, who will win his 160th cap for Spain on Monday in his home town, mentioned when asked which England player could cut it in Spain. He said: “There are some players from the Premier League who concentrate on the physical side of the game. But there are also very important technical players there. “Let’s start with Harry Kane. He’s physically a fantastic striker but technically he surprises you. “He surprises a lot of people but not me. He is great technically. “We are going to try and keep his scoring drought going as that would be a very good sign for us. “We know that the level of difficulty is very high tonight. We know we have a fantastic team in front of us. “Even though we played a great game at Wembley there are things we can improve. “England had a fantastic World Cup and were semi-finalists, with a lot of personality, despite it being a young team. Offensively they are very dangerous.” Spain, who are playing at Betis for the first time in 23 years, have not lost at home in 38 competitive games, since going down against Greece in June 2003 – 5,610 days ago. Spanish coach Luis Enrique, though, last night admitted that he has been listening to Southgate’s press conferences as England manager to help him improve his English. The former Barcelona coach said: “I like Gareth Southgate as a manager. “He’s a manager who likes to play. Maybe England historically have not played with possession but Southgate likes to play that way. “He’s someone I have always followed and I like the way he talks and interprets football. He has just renewed his contract which shows they have belief in him. “I have followed his press conferences to help me learn English. It’s like having an English teacher for free.”

ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Miles Kane
Coup De Grace 4/5
(Virgin EMI)
A key member of Arctic Monkey Alex Turner’s spin-off group The Last Shadow Puppets, Kane is a fine guitarist and even better singer.
On this third solo album he generates more excitement and demonstrates more genuine invention than the Arctics have achieved in a long while.
Built over the sort of muffled thump that underpinned a hundred glam-rock singles, Cry On My Guitar is an almost perfect homage to T-Rex but also manages to name-check The Sweet’s Ballroom Blitz.
Loaded, meanwhile, co-written by the peerless Lana del Rey and Jamie T, is a swaggering tilt through the wilder side of life and suggests a night out with Kane will probably not involve a quiet visit to the theatre.
Best of all though is the yelping, stripped back dub of the title track, and Wrong Side Of Life, featuring a stop-start rhythm and possibly the best, full-throated rock vocal you’ll hear this year.
A breathtaking return.
BC Camplight
Deportation Blues 3/5
(Bella Union)
Uprooted from his new home and girlfriend and dog in Manchester by immigration officials, New Jersey-born Brian Christinzio aka BC Camplight eventually returned on an Italian passport, thanks to his grandparents.
The whole frustrating saga is channelled into some fascinating shapes here – the laid-back but hypnotic I’m In A Weird Place and film noir-ish Am I Dead Yet?, for instance.
It’s not a complete downer but the spine-tingling melodies that filled his previous album, How To Die In The North, are in short supply and fans will have to dig much deeper to find them.
The Proclaimers
Angry Cyclist 3/4
(Cooking Vinyl)
Designed for live performance, above all, on one of the twins’ highly successful national tours, there’s a slightly throwaway feel to many of The Proclaimers’ recent songs.
But beyond the galloping beats and knees-up rhythms of numbers such as Sometimes It’s The Fools and A Way With Words lies genuine passion and lyrical excellence.
A sharp political edge, too: The Proclaimers might be virtual national treasures but they are not interested in playing it too safe.
The title track – a protest against the prickly intolerance of our times – is superb, as is Classy, a witty sideswipe at a class system where “culture travelled out from the rabble/And had a saddle placed on its back”.
And there we were thinking they just wrote about long walks…
Traders from two bookmaker giants – Paddy Power and Betfair – reported sizeable cash placed TODAY on Kane swapping Tottenham for Manchester United before the August 9 deadline.
Kane was 33/1 to join United before the start of business this morning but it’s now into 4/1 after a heap of big bets.
The move stunned insiders at the company, with a spokesman admitting there has been ‘total shock’ at the Friday market move.
Paddy Power spokesman Lee Price said: “We are laying Harry Kane to go to Manchester United – it’s come from nowhere.
“The bets have just kept on coming and we’ve had to keep slashing and slashing the price. It seems punters can’t get enough of it.
“It appears United really could get their man and that Kane may be heading to Old Trafford.
Real Madrid had been the 2/1 favourite to get Kane this summer but they are now out to 4/1 too.
England captain Harry Kane was this week shortlisted for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2018 award.
The period covered July 3, 2017 to July 15 this year and the 10 nominees were selected by a panel of football experts.
Gareth Southgate’s side qualified for the 2018 World Cup with an unbeaten record before going on to reach the semi-finals, eventually finishing fourth in Russia.
Tottenham forward Kane won the Golden Boot with his six goals as England produced their best World Cup finish since 1990, coming on the back of the 30 he scored during the Premier League season.
And he is confident he can recover from the fatigue of a taxing World Cup campaign as he aims to return to action for the start of the new season.
“I want to be playing in four weeks’ time,” Kane said. “We’ll have to talk to the gaffer (Mauricio Pochettino) at Spurs. It will be a couple of weeks (off).
“The most important thing is mentally (to be ready). Physically, this has been our pre-season. We tick over and are not going to just do nothing for two weeks. We will ease our way into it.
“Physically your body will take you where you never thought it would. It’s always mentally. We train all year round. With the season starting soon it will be hard, but that’s something we have to deal with.”
Kane, the Premier League’s top scorer in two of the last three seasons, has already set targets for a goalscoring return to action.
“I will hopefully be back for the first game and hopefully try and score in August (for the first time in the Premier League) this year,” he added.
Kane, who won the Golden Boot at the World Cup and has scored 135 goals in 187 Tottenham appearances, signed a new contract in June taking him until 2024.
As one of the world’s best strikers, interest in Kane is high but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has strongly resisted all approaches.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Juventus, Real Madrid are in the market for a marquee player.
But Spanish newspaper AS claims the Champions League winners view the possibility of signing Kane as “almost impossible”.
The report says Real recognise they would need to make a “very high” offer to even tempt Spurs into selling Kane.
But is also claimed Real have doubts over Kane’s ability to adapt to La Liga.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is considered to be the most feasible signing and it is said he would be “very receptive” to joining if he received an offer.
Spurs will move into their new stadium this season and former striker Dimitar Berbatov doesn’t see Kane leaving soon.
Berbatov told Betfair: “I don’t see Kane leaving for Real Madrid, not at this current moment.
“The club will have a new stadium soon which shows ambition to him and the squad is building on top of their foundation.
“He’ll stay and fight for silverware for now, but further in the future, I cannot be sure.”
Manager: Mauricio Pochettino
Position last season: 3rd
Nickname: Spurs
Ground: Wembley/Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Capacity: 90,000/62,062
Players In: –
Players Out: Keanan Bennetts (Borussia Monchengladbach, undisclosed), Anton Walkes (Portsmouth, undisclosed)

Chances: A top-three finish was heralded as a success last season after Spurs played at Wembley, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be expected to repeat that when they eventually settle into life in their new home. Nine of the Spurs’ squad were involved in the World Cup semi-finals or later, so much will depend on how they all return after a hectic, emotional summer.
Romelu Lukaku will not win the World Cup Golden Boot after being subbed off in the 61st minute of Belgium’s 3rd place playoff versus England. The striker was two goals behind Three Lions captain Harry Kane on four goals.
The Manchester United striker, 25, had begun the day in touching distance of Tottenham striker Kane, who has six at the top of the pile. But with Belgium leading 1-0 through an early Thomas Meunier goal, Lukaku was subbed off just after the hour mark.

The frontman failed to find the net in that time, despite having his moments in front of goal, including being put through by playmaker Kevin de Bruyne, who was perhaps the most influential player on the pitch.
French pair Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe are the only players who have any remote chance of catching Kane now, but the two would need to score a hat-trick in Sunday’s final versus Croatia to match Kane from thier current total of three goals.
The only player to ever achieve that feat was England’s Geoff Hurst versus West Germany in 1966, the year The Three Lions clinched the tournament with a 4-2 final victory.

England play Belgium in the World Cup’s third-place play-off in St Petersburg.
The title of third place in the World Cup is not something to be sniffed at but, in reality, both teams will be remembered in years to come as beaten semi-finalists, rather than bronze medallists.
Harry Kane will certainly think so as the game gives him the chance to add to the six goals he has already scored in the tournament and win the Golden Boot with an impressive tally.
Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku, who has scored four, may also hope to at least draw level with Kane.

BELGIUM 1-0 ENGLAND – MEUNIER
3: The Three Lions are wearing their red and white strip today while Belgium are in yellow and black. Y’know, just to make things needlessly confusing.
No early chances. No early entertainment now I think about it. Very slow, cautious and generally disinterested. Fingers crossed this is a slow-burner.
BELGIUM 0-0 ENGLAND
1: And we’re underway folks. Predictions? Sorry, but I can see a fairly comprehensive Belgium win today.

ARRIVAL
14:56: And the anthems ring around these stadium for the penultimate time at the 2018 World Cup. You can probably imagine that they weren’t sung with the same verve as they were on Wednesday.
‘WE WANT TO BE SHARP’
14:54: Belgium manager Roberto Martinez, speaking to ITV: “We want to be sharp in possession and open this England team up. Kevin de Bruyne will play more as a number 10. We expect to have a good mixture of penetration and power. I think it’s about how quick we can be on the ball. Our technical aspect will be important.”

‘MEDAL WOULD BE NICE’
14:50: Gareth Southgate, speaking to ITV: “The day after the semi-final, it was my responsibility as leader of the group to pick them up. But then the fun was back in training yesterday and they know they have a come a long way and want to finish well.
“Belgium are one of the best teams in the world and have world class players, they are fantastic and their mentality will be the same as ours.
“A medal would be lovely for the players and staff knowing they have really achieved something special. People will look at the route to this stage but I am not sure anyone in our country thought we would have played seven matches and got to game 63, we wanted to get to game 64.
“Game 63 might be at the side of my desk for the next few years.”
OH, HI…
14:47: Belgium and England are the first teams to face twice at a World Cup tournament since Turkey played Brazil twice at the 2002 World Cup.

FRIENDLY
14:44: I’m not going to lie, there doesn’t feel like there’s much bite between the two sides this afternoon.
I’ve just been flicking through some of the pictures from the stadium and they mainly show the squads hugging and joking.
There’s even one of Kevin De Bruyne playing with Vincent Kompany’s hat…
WOWZERS
14:40: Fair play to Jordan Pickford. I’ve just spotted a tweet from Henry Winter revealing a nasty incident after the Croatia defeat.
“Jordan Pickford showed commendable restraint in the tunnel after the semi-final defeat when a member of a Croatian TV crew taunted him with “You should have f***ing won that”. Pickford calmly replied “next time” and carried on to the dressing-room,” Winter tweeted.
I didn’t need more motive to support France tomorrow…

‘READY’
14:38: England manager Gareth Southgate: “We have two options. We will either go home having shown improvement and equalled every team that has left our shores or we put in a performance and go home with a medal and become the best ever team to have left our shores.
“Every player is up for playing, we had to make a decision on some and we have to re-energise the team. The mentality of the players have been brilliant, they are ready for today.”
GOLDEN BOOT
14:30: Not sure Bobby Martinez is correct about this.
Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, with four goals in the tournament, is two behind top scorer Harry Kane but Martinez insists the Manchester United player will not target the Golden Boot above team success.
“We don’t look for individual rewards and Romelu has shown that with his play,” Martinez said. “Finishing third, the best finish for a Belgium national side in the World Cup, will be an achievement more than any individual award.”
You just keep thinking that, Roberto.

Chris: I think we need to look at today in context. In 2014 we came home after 3 games with one point. In 2016, Iceland eliminated us in the last 16. We came into this competition ranked equal 12th in the world. Now we are playing for 3rd place in 2018. Progress, surely?
Francis: If a team is happy with a third place finish, then there is something wrong with the mentality of the team and country. You play to win, anything less means very little.
John: How on earth does Sterling get picked yet again? 43 games and 2 goals.
LATE NIGHT…
14:20: Gareth Southgate has already put himself through a 4am rerun of England’s World Cup defeat by Croatia.
“We were 20 minutes from a World Cup final…that is going to live with me forever, there is not doubt about that,” he said.
“I’m conscious I’ve got to raise everybody but I’m up watching the game at four o’clock on Friday morning. I’m old enough now that I don’t have to beat myself up unnecessarily. I think when I was a player I had a very simplistic mindset: win and I was good, lose and I was an idiot.
“There was nothing in between and bizarrely I felt the need to punish myself for that. I’m a lot more rational now. I can see what we have achieved.”

ORIGIN?
14:15: OK, I’ve found this fact file about the third-place play-off. For some unknown reason I’m now addicted to it.
Why was the fixture introduced?
The third-place play-off was first introduced as a consolation match for the beaten semi-finalists in the 1934 tournament.
After the final between Italy and Czechoslovakia in Rome, an Olympic-style ceremony featuring Germany, winners of the play-off in Naples the previous day, took place.
Isn’t learning fun?
CENTURY’S UP…
14:10: This will be England’s 100th game at a major international tournament, with 69 of those coming at the World Cup finals (31 at the European Championships).
Not sure what you’re supposed to do with that information…

£1.4 MILLION…
14:05: I’ve heard this questions a million times leading to today’s third-place play-off.
What is there to gain?
In theory, the title of third place in the World Cup is not something to be sniffed at but, in reality, both teams will be remembered in years to come as beaten semi-finalists, rather than bronze medallists.
Outside of the Olympics, third place carries little weight in tournament football. However, there is extra prize money at stake.
The third-placed team takes home £18million and fourth-placed £16.6million. And while some may see the game as little more than a friendly, it’s a competitive international.
The FIFA ranking points could also come in handy when it comes to future seedings.

TEAM NEWS – BELGIUM
14:00: Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has rolled out all of his big names, with Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard the attacking fulcrum.
Youri Tielemans came in for Marouane Fellaini and Thomas Meunier returned after suspension.
TEAM NEWS – ENGLAND
13:55: Gareth Southgate makes five changes to his starting XI.
Kieran Trippier was a surprise starter after limping off with a groin injury in the semi-final, while tournament leading scorer Harry Kane was given another chance to lay his hands on the Golden Boot.
Phil Jones, Danny Rose, Eric Dier, Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were the players drafted in, replacing Kyle Walker, Ashley Young, Jordan Henderson, Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard.

Lucas: Third place play-off is nice because it means a lot for the players who haven’t featured as much to get a run out, also this England team could record our second best ever World Cup finish if they win.
Bob Moss: Apart from the extra revenue, although hardly anyone watches, what’s the points of the third place match?
Melissa: So much negativity surrounding the 3rd/4th place play-off, for crying out loud, this could be the best finish in a World Cup since 1966. I’m expecting just a couple of changes to the England side.
I’ve actually heard that England will make four changes, Melissa. Stay tuned to see…

GARETH SOUTHGATE AGREES…
13:40: Following on from the low-key return, Gareth Southgate unsurprisingly agrees with the FA’s decision.
“I mean, the reality is it’s not actually my decision,” England boss Southgate said. “But I agree with the decision. I think if we make the final, maybe it’s different.
“I must say the support we’ve had from home and the feeling of support is immense. To have been able to make a difference is something that will live with us all forever, so we can tell the way that the country has united behind football and that’s maybe more important than the performance in some respects.”
Southgate you’re the one, you still…
LOW-KEY RETURN…
13:35: England’s World Cup semi-finalists are planning a low-key return from Russia.
England are due to fly from St Petersburg to Birmingham tomorrow and the FA has confirmed that there will be no public access for fans, given airport security restrictions.
There are also no public celebrations planned despite the Three Lions’ impressive achievements in Russia, which could yet see them become the most successful team since the 1966 champions.

WELCOME
13:25: Good afternoon… I guess.
Sorry to sound like a petulant child but that’s exactly how I’m feeling ahead of this third-place play-off.
Today was supposed to be the calm before the storm with the entire nation going into meltdown.
You know, looting tin barbecues, stockpiling Pimms, hurriedly purchasing knock off England tops and inviting anyone you’ve ever know round to watch your brand new 50” Plasma that you bought especially for the World Cup final.
But instead we’re left with the battle for bronze…
The team news and line-ups will be out shortly so let’s get this over with…
A Mario Mandzukic goal in the 109th minute sealed an extra time victory for Croatia after an early Kieran Trippier free kick was canceled out in the second half by Ivan Perisic during normal time.
“We gave it everything, I know we’re gonna look back and say we could have done this and what but at the end of the day ot was small margins in a big game and it didn’t go our way today,” said striker Kane, currently the tournament’s top scorer with six goals.
Kane had lead England to their first World Cup semi-final since the Italia ’90 tournament 28 years ago, and in doing so scored record amount of goals. Trippier’s set piece on five minutes was England’s 12th at Russia 2018, more than any other Three Lions side.
England will now play Belgium on July 10th in the third place playoff match, a game that could see Kane extend his personal goal tally, but is not the game he would have initially wanted to have played in.
“It’s not something I’m really thinking about at the moment to be honest, it’s not the game we wanted to be in,” Kane admitted.
“It is what it is, we’ll try and play that game with as much pride and try and finish on a high, but we’re still gonna be hurting of course in that game, in three or four days time we’re still gonna be thinking about this one and what could have been, you know.
“Yeah of course [I want to play]. I think everyone will want to play but the gaffer will make a decision but yeah we’re extremely proud of what we’ve achieved and we know we’ve restored some pride in the short back home as well.
“So we can hold our heads up high but of course we know it’s an opportunity that on another day we could have done even more,” he added.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane paid tribute to Croatia, led by Real Madrid’s Luka Madrid in the center midfield, and conceded that the “small margins” that make such a big difference didn’t go his side’s way not he night.
To everyone who supported us.
To everyone who believed this time was different.
To everyone who wasn't afraid to dream.
To everyone who knows this is only the beginning.
Thank you. We hope we made you proud. #threelions pic.twitter.com/jH8lYMB2E0

“We had a good spell we went one nil up and we had a couple of chances we’re we could have got another. Second half, fair play to Croatia they came out and put the pressure on and we were under the cosh for a little while,” the 24-year-old skipper said.
“But we handled it well, but unfortunately we conceded at the wrong time, after that I thought we again picked it up again and done well.

“But it’s small margins, in extra time we get a corner cleared off the line. These are the things that you need to go your way in the big games and unfortunately for us it didn’t.”
In Gareth Southgate, England have a manager who has brought new vigor to the national team setup, and who has managed to transform a side who crashed out to minnows Iceland at Euro 2016 into World Cup semifinalists.
Kane revealed the plan is to “build on foundations” set in place buy the 47-year-old manager, who is still a rookie on the international stage.
“The gaffer had a little word and said we should all be proud of ourselves. Nothing he is going to say is going to make us feel any better,” Kane said.
“To be proud and hold our head up high we’ve come a long way, especially from two years ago. You can hear the fans singing out there after the defeat it’s a proud feeling you know and all we can do is try and build on it.”
“We’ve built a good foundation after the last couple of years with the manager and it’s important that we carry that on, we’ve shown that we can do well in these tournaments and the aim now is not to wait another 20-odd years to get in another big semi-final, to come again and try and achieve our dream.”
