“There are bodies in this rubble that stay here and you can smell the bodies and some of them have family members that are here and they are unable to move them,” the Hollywood superstar and Special Envoy for the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said, after exploring a part of Mosul that was recaptured last year with the US-led coalition’s active support.

Even though this was Jolie’s fifth trip to Iraq, the horrific destruction she witnessed in the Old City this time really broke her heart. Walking around the narrow streets of the city center, completely destroyed by artillery and airstrikes, the 43-year-old Oscar winner called it the “worst devastation” she saw in her 17 years representing the UNHCR across the globe.

“This is the worst devastation I have seen in all my years with UNHCR. These people have lost everything and the trauma and the loss they have suffered is unparalleled,” Jolie said.

Ever since Mosul was recaptured following massive bombardment and intensive street-to-street battles to drive out Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorists, locals are not receiving any aid to rebuild the city. Unexploded mortars and other explosives still litter the streets of the Old City, while people lack basic medical facilities and infrastructure. Conditions witnessed by the actress in West Mosul are simply “appalling.”

“Displacement is still happening. The camps near the city are still full. Whole areas of West Mosul remain flattened. Enabling people to return and stabilizing the city is essential for the future stability of Iraq and the region,” she said, in a statement.

After Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the city liberated in July, 2017, the government has done little, and received even less support from its allies, to reconstruct the once-thriving city, Iraq’s second largest. An estimated 90 percent of West Mosul, where the historical part of town is located, was destroyed or significantly damaged during the nine-month siege by Iraqi forces, supported by the US-led coalition. It will now cost Baghdad an estimated $ 88 billion to rebuild the country following the devastating battle against IS, money which the government simply lacks, and Western partners are reluctant to provide.

“I call on the international community not to forget Mosul, and not to turn their attention away from its people. We have learnt in Iraq before and elsewhere in the region the dangers of leaving a void. It is also what the families and survivors deserve,” Jolie said.

It has a release date set for November 2019, but very little is known about Craig’s fifth and final movie.

While he’s definitely signed on, rumours have been mounting around director Danny Boyle and John Hodge’s script.

Now a new leak has arrived from a Reddit user who previously claimed: “I work in the film industry and know people tangentially connected to the world of Bond.”

alleges: “I’ve heard that Boyle has committed to a script and casting is underway.”

They continued: “Supposedly, the big roles in the script are the female villain and Bond’s understudy (another female role). 

“I hear Sophie Rundle, Lily James, Ella Purnell and Antonia Thomas have auditioned/met with Boyle (though this list is not exhaustive). 

“The role is not a love interest however, [it’s] the co-lead of the film. 

“I’ve also heard that Boyle isn’t adverse to discovering a new name and possibly someone who isn’t an actress. Though it sounds like a moronic suggestion, I’ve heard the singer Dua Lipa is high on the list.”

Of the actresses mentioned, James is certainly the biggest star and is the lead in Boyle’s next film, a Richard Curtis rom-com, which he will shoot this summer ahead of Bond 25.

Meanwhile Rundle is best known for Peaky Blinders and Thomas starred in Misfits and Lovesick.

Now they all might be around 30-years-old but Purnell is only 21. But she play a younger Jolie in Maleficent.

And speaking of the former Tomb Raider star, she’s apparently the first choice for the villain and is “keen” to take on the role.

The leaker added: “Finally, the main villain has been written with Angelina Jolie in mind. 

“I’ve heard this name for a very long while. I never quite trusted it but Boyle has wanted her since day one and it looks as though she’s keen. 

“They are now actively courting her and the script is being adjusted accordingly.”

James Bond 25 is set for release in November 2019.

The film, now starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, is out this weekend in cinemas – 15 years after Jolie last played the iconic videogame character.

Now, producer Graham King has explained why his team resisted the urge to have a cameo from Jolie in the mix.

“It was never a story that had that moment where you could [have her appear], you know what I mean? Pass the baton over,” he told Cinema Blend.

“There wasn’t that kind of tone and that would’ve changed tones to have that…

“The studios of course, said ‘Is there a way to get Angie? Should we try and have her kind of baton over this kind of thing?’

“And I understand it for marketing and studios or whatever, but that never felt organic to our film. Something like that can tip the balance.”

So it seems that despite the studio’s desire for a quick nod to the past incarnation of the franchise, Jolie was never approached.

Tomb Raider has had mixed reviews from critics, but is still rumoured to be the start of a planned franchise.

Vikander has indicated that she would happily return to play Lara again, but director Roar Uthaug has played down the idea that more movies are already being planned.

“We haven’t started talking about that at all, now we’re just focused on making this movie,” he told ScreenRant.

Despite embodying the antithesis of the usual celebration of globalism by elites, President Donald Trump has emerged as the most fawned-over attendee of the World Economic Forum’s annual conference in Davos, Switzerland since Angelina Jolie and her then-husband Brad Pitt attended in 2006.

“A World Economic Forum official said no Davos attendee had gotten as much attention since Angelina Jolie,” Axios’ Mike Allen reported.

Trump, who was never invited to Davos as a businessman, has become the focus of attention as the conference draws to a close and anticipation builds over a speech he’s set to give on Friday.

“Rooms and rooms of people at Davos waiting for a brief President Trump appearance,” Business Insider’s Alyson Shontell reported from the scene. 

The scene at Davos shows a marked departure from last year, when Chinese President Xi Jinping attended and spoke. Xi spoke in defense of globalization and free trade, which was seen as a rebuke of Trump without mentioning his name.

Trump, on the other hand, is expected to do the opposite. French President Emmanuel Macron said he “strongly recommended” Trump take his “America first” message to Davos to share his vision and encounter “some form of confrontation and dialogue.”

Though he has yet to speak, Trump’s offhand comments in passing have already made news. Speaking to Business Insider CEO Henry Blodget in passing, Trump said on Thursday “America’s great.”

The Irish actor has locked lips with many women in his career as a big screen heartthrob.

During a cheeky interview this week, he was put on the spot and asked to compare kissing two of his most famous leading ladies.

Butler was appearing on Watch What Happens Live when host Andy Cohen made him squirm with embarrassment at his outrageous question.

The answer is so charged because Aniston and Jolie were famously portrayed a love rivals for over a decade after Brad Pitt divorced the and suspiciously quickly announced his relationship with the latter in 2005.

So who is the better kisser?

The section of the show is called Pleasd the fifth, referrring to the US constitutional ammendment which allows somebody to avoid answer in a question in court.

Butler kissed Aniston in teh comedy The Bounty Hunter and Jolie in her first outing as Lara Croft and from the video clips below is looks certain that the raunchy scene with Jolie will win the day.

Cohen would not let Butler dodge the high profile bullet and forced an answer.

Butler responded: “Oh no, no….” But then he caved in and admitted: “Jennifer Aniston. I’m just taking you by surprise.”

An Iranian woman who reportedly had 50 plastic-surgery procedures to look like Angelina Jolie has been mocked online, with critics saying she looks more like a “zombie” and a “corpse bride” than Brad Pitt’s ex-wife.

Sahar Tabar admired the Hollywood actress so much that she decided to go under the knife to look exactly like her, undergoing some 50 surgeries in just a matter of months, according to Belgian newspaper Sudinfo. She also reportedly lost 40 kilos (88lbs) in an attempt to achieve Jolie’s slender figure.

But her efforts didn’t exactly impress those on social media. After posting her new look on her Instagram account, where she has more than 500,000 followers, Tabar was called a “corpse bride” and a “zombie.”

Another person called her a “ghoul,” while other critics called her “stupid” and “scary.” Commenting on her extremely thin physique, one person pleaded with her to “please eat.”

Tabar has not publicly confirmed the plastic surgery reports, and many online claim her look is the product of makeup, prosthetics, and Photoshop. However, she does appear to be wearing a bandage over her nose in many of the photos – which could be a sign that she has indeed gone under the knife. As Hollywood Life pointed out, her nose is different in different photos, which could indicate that special makeup effects are being used alongside plastic surgery.

Although the Jolie fanatic removed all of her “before” photos from her Instagram account, British media outlet The Sun reportedly found one and published it. 

If the move is merely a publicity stunt aimed at making Tabar a social media celebrity, it appears to be working. Her Instagram account grew by over 60,000 people on Thursday alone, the day her photos went viral on social media, Hollywood Life reported. 

The woman – who is either 19 or 22, according to conflicting reports – isn’t the only person to make headlines for trying to look like a famous figure. A man in the US has dedicated his life to looking like a real-life Ken doll, even going so far as to gain extra pounds so the fat could be used to plump up his buttocks. Others have also made headlines for trying to look like Barbie dolls, while New York woman Jocelyn Wildenstein, dubbed ‘Catwoman,’ has undergone countless surgeries to look like a feline.

Gal Gadot could trade in her shield for a white gown and wig, if Bride of Frankenstein director Bill Condon gets his wish granted.

The classic monster movie remake and next entry into Universal’s so-called Dark Universe has been indefinitely delayed, and there’s nothing much for the team behind it to do except twiddle their thumbs and make casting suggestions in case stars Javier Bardem and Angelina Jolie leave the project. And Condon’s number one backup pick is Wonder Woman herself.

The news broke Thursday that production on Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein remake was postponed and that the film would no longer meet its planned release date of February 14, 2019. This put into question the status of stars Bardem and Jolie, with Bardem set to play Frankenstein’s Monster and Jolie only rumored for the part of the titular Bride. Both are still attached to the project, and sources have said that they will wait for a new retooled script rather than departing immediately.

But that doesn’t mean that Condon won’t start thinking of a backup plan.

The Wrap reports that Condon is considering Gadot for Bride of Frankenstein to replace Jolie if the Maleficent actress were to exit the project. “Condon and the other filmmakers have been in a holding pattern waiting for Jolie to commit to the project or pass,” The Wrap writes, stating that the filmmakers haven’t yet reached out to Gadot.

The aura of uncertainty around this project doesn’t bode well for the Dark Universe, which has already stumbled right at the starting line with the poorly received Tom Cruise vehicle The Mummy. Even a buzzed-about star like Gadot — who already has her hands full with another blockbuster franchise, Justice League — may not be able to resurrect the lumbering cinematic universe.

An insider told The Wrap:

“This is fairly out of nowhere given how deep they were into prep over there, but not really surprising — their mandate has more or less been that they wanted these to work as PG-rated action movies/theme-park rides, not horror movies. Basically ‘Fast and the Furious’ meets ‘The Avengers’ – but with super monsters.”

Fast and Furious meets Avengers sounds like a horribly misguided idea for a classic monster movie crossover — and the opposite of the “100 percent” monster movie that Condon is set on making — though it does tie in to the potential casting of Gadot. A former Fast and Furious cast member and a current superhero team member would lend her the experience to making a “super monsters” style blockbuster movie. But I hope that Jolie doesn’t consider leaving because of this news. She’s the saving grace of this mess of a monster movie, and we could do with seeing Jolie vamp out on the big screen again.

In the rather bizarre 2007 version of Beowulf, Jolie played Grendell’s mother. She may have played a monster, but her naked, gold-washed body dazzled Ray Winston’e titular hero.

Angelina Jolie is continuing her rise as a prestigious director with First They Killed My Father, the harrowing true story of a Cambodian girl who is forced to become a child soldier under the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s.

Based on the memoir of the same name, First They Killed My Father is about Loung Ung, who also penned the screenplay for the film along with Jolie. The film is being released by Netflix, but will also premiere in theaters.

The First They Killed My Father trailer follows Loung Ung as her carefree life as the daughter of a high-ranking government official is brutally interrupted by the invasion of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge army into Phnom Penh in April 1975. Her family flees and separates from each other in order to survive, but not before Ung’s father is killed. Separated from her siblings, Ung becomes a child soldier at a work camp.

Netflix released the synopsis and key art for First They Killed My Father:

“Directed by Angelina Jolie (Unbroken, By the Sea), First They Killed My Father is the adaptation of Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung’s gripping memoir of surviving the deadly Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1978. The story is told through her eyes, from the age of five, when the Khmer Rouge came to power, to nine years old. The film depicts the indomitable spirit and devotion of Loung and her family as they struggle to stay together during the Khmer Rouge years.”

First They Killed My Father is directed by Angelina Jolie, and produced by Jolie and Rithy Panh. Loung Ung, Jolie’s son Maddox Jolie-Pitt, Adam Somner, Michael Vieira, and Charles Schissel serve as executive producers.

I haven’t read First They Killed My Father, but the trailer looks absolutely harrowing, and hones in on a conflict that I and the American viewing public know little about. I’m glad that Netflix is taking on these kinds of films, and casting unknown actors of Cambodian descent in the roles. Jolie is commendable for taking on these kinds of projects. She’s shown a keen eye for powerful stories of all stripes and colors, and is on her way to becoming one of the most interesting actors-turned-directors working at the moment. Her last film By The Sea, starring herself and her ex-husband Brad Pitt, met with tepid reviews, but she showed a lot of promise in her previous film, 2014’s Unbroken.

First They Killed My Father will premiere Friday, September 15 in select theaters and globally on Netflix.
