“Amanda Holden is in a lot of the newspapers this morning,” Ben remarked.

Peter explained: “Poor Amanda, she’s suffered a nasty injury while on holiday with her family.

“She had an operation after she broke her leg in two places. She fell off an inflatable assault course at sea.

“I’ve done one of these before, it’s horrible, where you can hurt yourself. I nearly broke my neck once, I didn’t actually break my neck but they’re dangerous things!

“They’re the big assault courses in the sea and pretty hardcore,” the Mysterious Girl singer continued.

“I thought they were all bouncy?” Kate asked. “But not if you fall on them on the wrong way!”

Most added she’s “excited” for her first live show, telling host Lorraine Kelly: “This time I can feel it within myself that I have different nerves that are being awakened and it’s good – this is a different challenge and I’m learning something more about myself.”

Lorraine was keen to quiz Motsi on how she will judge her own sister Oti, who is partnered with Kelvin Fletcher.

“I’m going to judge her like any other dancer,” Motsi said.

“Oti has done so well here, I’m so proud of her. Me being extra hard, or me giving her extra points would be disrespectful to what she’s achieved.

BBC News: ‘You’re part of it’ Minchin jibes at John Mann for ‘pantomime’ Parliament remark https://briefnews.eu/bbc-news-youre-part-of-it-minchin-jibes-at-john-mann-for-pantomime-parliament-remark/ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-news-youre-part-of-it-minchin-jibes-at-john-mann-for-pantomime-parliament-remark/#respond Wed, 04 Sep 2019 21:24:38 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bbc-news-youre-part-of-it-minchin-jibes-at-john-mann-for-pantomime-parliament-remark/

John Mann was one of two Labour MPs, alongside Kate Holy, who sided with the government in last night’s vote in the Commons.

Conservative rebels and the opposition MPs voted to defeat the government 328 to 301 in the first stage of their attempt to pass through law to prevent no-deal Brexit.

Today, Mann appeared BBC Breakfast alongside fellow Labour MP Lucy Powell, Conservative Ben Bradley and Ian Paisley Jr from the DUP.

But Mann hit out at the goings-on in Parliament as a general election looms following Boris Johnson’s defeated vote.

Mann said: “There was a deal, I voted for it. I was in a tiny minority in voting for it I think in hindsight people will think in the next year or two actually they should have voted for it.

“This is a B-rate pantomime Parliament. I wouldn’t buy a ticket to come and watch this rubbish.”

“You’re part of it!” Minchin interjected.

Mann continued to vent: “It’s junk, it’s junk. It’s appalling what’s going on and people saying it’s exciting, no it’s not. It’s tedious, it’s boring so there’s going to be two choices.

“Parliament’s not going to vote for a referendum. There’s going to be an election will that resolve it? I doubt it will resolve it.

“Politicians need to work together and respect what people have said and start listening to one another and get out of their comfort zones and that’s not been happening.

“Three years you know, let’s get on with it.”

While fellow Labour Party member Powell said she supported seeing Labour in power with Jeremy Corbyn as leader, Mann vehemently disagreed.

He explained: “Jeremy Corbyn’s going to bottle the election today having called for it every single day he’s been the Labour leader.”

Minchin chimed in: “Right, this is the leader of your party.”

“The question Jeremy Corbyn needs to answer is why is Labour not 30 percent ahead in the polls today?

“Can you imagine with what’s going on that Labour’s not got the next selection in the bag, walking into power.

“This should be a bigger landslide than Tony Blair got.”

“You’re talking about your own party here,” Minchin added.

Mann explained: “Yeah, I’m talking about my own party leader and I think the best thing he can do is stand aside and let someone else do it and Labour will romp to an election victory.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.

BAFTA 2019: BREXIT jibes leave BBC viewers furious ‘Luvvie pillocks!’ https://briefnews.eu/bafta-2019-brexit-jibes-leave-bbc-viewers-furious-luvvie-pillocks/ https://briefnews.eu/bafta-2019-brexit-jibes-leave-bbc-viewers-furious-luvvie-pillocks/#respond Sun, 10 Feb 2019 23:32:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bafta-2019-brexit-jibes-leave-bbc-viewers-furious-luvvie-pillocks/

Andy Serkis, 54, was the first to make a dig at Brexit in front of the royal family at the BAFTAs.

He said: “A film’s music. A film without music is like Laurel without Hardy.

“It’s Queen without Freddie Mercury. It’s Britain without Europe.”

The joke, like many others tonight, seemed to fall flat, so Eddie Marsan tried his hand for another jibe.

He said: “You have to be able to create something that has painstaking historical accuracy… which is particularly difficult in the country that has reinvented its past to justify Brexit.”

Viewers were furious that the awards to celebrate films, the cast and crew was “hijacked” by Brexit rants.

One BAFTA fan tweeted: “Shame @andyserkis and @eddiemarsan had to politicise #BAFTA with their smug #Brexit digs.”

“Oh man. Didn’t think I’d see jokes worse than Joanna Lumley’s tonight…until Eddie Marsan made his lame crack about Brexit #BAFTA,” posted another.

A third added: “Even the Brexit jokes are falling flat. Shall we just call it a night? #BAFTAs2019 #Bafta.”

“Can’t these over appreciated luvvies just leave the politics at home? Seriously. #EEBAFTAs #BAFTA #Brexit,” wrote anther.

A fifth said: “The #Bafta people are really droning on about #brexit aren’t they. F**king hell. Let it go.”

“Wouldn’t it be nice if a film awards ceremony avoided being political. An hour and 10 mins into #BAFTA and 2 negative mentions of Brexit. Someone tell the luvvies we voted out and we are leaving,” said another.

However, some appreciated the comments made on the delayed awards ceremony.

One viewer tweeted: “@eddiemarsan Britain ‘a country constantly reinventing its past to justify Brexit’ Well put sir. #BAFTA.”

“Just love @eddiemarsan speaking up re the nonsense that is #Brexit at #BAFTA awards. He cares more about UK than almost anyone in the joke that passes for a Parliament down the road in Westminster,” claimed another.

Nominees for the sought-after BAFTA gongs included Olivia Colman, Glenn Close, Viggo Mortensen, Viola Davis, Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Steve Coogan, Melissa McCarthy, Sam Rockwell, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, many of whom had to sit through the remarks.

Nominated films included The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, BlacKkKlansman and A Star Is Born.

It comes as many rushed to social media to criticise Joanna’s jokes.

Piers Morgan tweeted: “Jeez, who wrote these jokes for Joanna Lumley? This is a train wreck. #BAFTAs2019.

“This is the future of awards shows, isn’t it? They’ve been ‘woked’ into humourless, PC-enslaved, unctuously sycophantic, excruciatingly boring submission. #BAFTAs2019.”

The BAFTA Awards 2019 is available to watch on the iPlayer now.

Good Morning Britain presenter enjoys shock reunion live but jibes ‘you’re still working’ https://briefnews.eu/good-morning-britain-presenter-enjoys-shock-reunion-live-but-jibes-youre-still-working/ https://briefnews.eu/good-morning-britain-presenter-enjoys-shock-reunion-live-but-jibes-youre-still-working/#respond Fri, 24 Nov 2017 10:28:09 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/good-morning-britain-presenter-enjoys-shock-reunion-live-but-jibes-youre-still-working/

Just seconds after his segment, the entertainment editor was presented with a pink cake by none other than former co-star Fiona Phillips.

The 48-year-old looked gobsmacked at the reunion, however he made a very cheeky remark after being teased by hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway.

“Look at you? The gang’s together again,” Richard exclaimed, as the GMTV star emerged from nowhere.

“I’m loving the Clark Kent glasses as you get older,” the 56-year-old told him, almost a decade after leaving the morning show behind.

“I thought it might give me more gravitas, no?” Richard replied, but Ben was not going to let that go.

The 42-year-old joked: “It’s the only bit of his body that he hasn’t had done yet! We have got a picture, this is the two of them – you might recognise them – look at this? Look at you there?”

A throwback snap flashed on screen of the pair enjoying a night out, to which Ben shockingly asked if it was taken in the late 1970s.

It was then that Richard turned to Fiona and quipped: “Good to see you’re still working, girl!” but thankfully it all appeared to be taken in jest.

Sharing a snap on Instagram, he captioned it: “Flashback Friday for my birthday with the old gang.

“Thanks for all your birthday wishes @gmb. I’ll be face down in a skip by 9.30am with a soggy bottom #squadgoals #birthdayboy #birthdaycake #gmb #itv.”

First Dates: Conservative MP Michael Fabricant hits back at date over 'rude' hair jibes https://briefnews.eu/first-dates-conservative-mp-michael-fabricant-hits-back-at-date-over-rude-hair-jibes/ https://briefnews.eu/first-dates-conservative-mp-michael-fabricant-hits-back-at-date-over-rude-hair-jibes/#respond Fri, 03 Nov 2017 00:12:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/first-dates-conservative-mp-michael-fabricant-hits-back-at-date-over-rude-hair-jibes/

The celebrity special, in aid of charity Stand Up to Cancer, matched the Conservative party member with a strong-willed fantasy novelist.

But as the pair started to get to know each other, Michael was forced to chide his date, saying, “What a showstopper”.

As the duo tucked into their dinner, Jan revealed that she’d wondered about the politician’s sexuality.

However, taking it one step further, she said: “The wig is a bit of a giveaway,” before telling him she should “get rid of it”.

Flabbergasted by her words, Michael, 67, replied: “I’m not going to make personal comments about you.

“I think that’s a rather rude thing to do in a dinner.”

Clearly understanding her grave mistake, Jan profusely apologised but it seemed the damage was already done.

“I did not mean to be rude,” she said, as Michael continued: “It’s me. My hair is me, if you like it – great. If you don’t – hard luck.

“I think making a personal remark seems rather aggressive and unpleasant, actually.”

Michael had earlier said he hated any comparison between his hair and that of fellow MP and former Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

“I hate that, first of all Boris Bohnson has got white hair, pink eyes, flabby face… No, no, no, I am not Boris Johnson,” he repeated vehemently.

First Dates Celebrity Special is available to watch on the All 4 app now.

Power tires of Suns’ jibes in China https://briefnews.eu/power-tires-of-suns-jibes-in-china/ https://briefnews.eu/power-tires-of-suns-jibes-in-china/#respond Wed, 18 Oct 2017 01:49:12 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/power-tires-of-suns-jibes-in-china/ PORT Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas is ignoring the latest jabs from Gold Coast chairman Tony Cochrane on the jumper saga from the AFL clubs’ Shanghai adventure, labelling the farce as “quite insignificant”.

Thomas told The Advertiser from Shanghai – where the Power is stepping up preparation for the 2018 AFL game in China and the AFL footprint in Chinese schools – he is not “too concerned” as Cochrane puts Port Adelaide on notice about jumpers and the asking price the Suns have to concede a home game.

Cochrane insists the Suns will not concede on wearing their home red-and-yellow jumper than matches the Chinese national flag.

He also is demanding more than $ 500,000 from Port Adelaide to sell a game from the Gold Coast, even though the Suns are locked out of their home ground early next year by the Commonwealth Games.

“It is all quite insignificant to what we are working on in China,” Thomas told The Advertiser. “More important than jumpers is what we can achieve in the next 10 to 15 years for the Port Adelaide Football Club, the AFL and the game of Australian football.

“Jumpers and Gold Coast will take care of itself. There are more significant issues for our club and our game in the long term.”

Thomas on Thursday will leave China after delivering keynote speeches in Hong Kong and at the Shanghai Sports Summit while expanding Port Adelaide’s “Power Footy” program to two new schools in Shanghai. The program is now in 15 schools with 500 children participating.

The joint Port Adelaide-AFL delegation this week also has started critical talks with Shanghai authorities to enhance spectator facilities for the second Power-Suns clash at Jiangwan Stadium in May.

“The bigger picture – beyond jumpers – stood out when we presented to the AUSCHAM (Australian Chamber of Commerce) functions,” Thomas told The Advertiser.

“We had the privilege of joining Tennis Australia, AC Milan, the NFL, NBA, NHL and UFC in speaking on the importance of western sport on the China landscape.

“Where Port Adelaide is best placed – compared with the other sports – is we are the only sport to have played a game for premiership points on mainland China. And we are the only sport planning to be in China with an annual event.

“The significance of that run deeper than another debate on jumpers.”

Stoke 2 Manchester United 2: Mark Hughes accuses Jose Mourinho of ‘lazy’ jibes https://briefnews.eu/stoke-2-manchester-united-2-mark-hughes-accuses-jose-mourinho-of-lazy-jibes/ https://briefnews.eu/stoke-2-manchester-united-2-mark-hughes-accuses-jose-mourinho-of-lazy-jibes/#respond Mon, 11 Sep 2017 04:31:09 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/stoke-2-manchester-united-2-mark-hughes-accuses-jose-mourinho-of-lazy-jibes/

Hughes accused United of playing more long balls than Stoke as he hit back at Mourinho’s implied criticism in the wake of Saturday’s draw in the Potteries.

The pair clashed on the touchline with the Stoke boss shoving the Portuguese gaffer and allegedly telling him to ‘f*** off’ before the United manager refused his offer of a handshake at the final whistle.

Mourinho then aimed subtle digs at the Potters after the game, branding them defensive and claiming United had needed injured midfielder Marouane Fellaini with the clear implication that Stoke relied on a physical approach.

“That’s just an easy swipe at us,” said Hughes. “You could argue United played more long balls and why wouldn’t they, because they’ve got power and pace to burn?

“I don’t know what the stats are but I’d argue that in general play they played more long balls than we did because they’ve got that threat.

“It’s a bit lazy of people to keep on reverting to that ‘Stoke are a physical team’ thing.”

The managers went head to head as they watched Stoke end United’s perfect start to the Premier League season thanks to two goals from Potters summer signing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

The Cameroon international opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when he turned home Mame Diouf’s cross then secured a point for his side when he headed in a corner from Xherdan Shaqiri.

“He’s big, he’s powerful and technically he’s excellent, he can take the ball and create in one-on-one situations and he’s not a kid so he’s not really a risk,” said Hughes.

“He has a big smile on his face, he’s very articulate and we’re delighted he’s here.”

Between Choupo-Moting’s big moments, Marcus Rashford equalised for United with a goal he knew nothing about as Paul Pogba’s header struck him and flew in, then Romelu Lukaku netted his fourth goal in as many Manchester United appearances from a superb Henrikh Mkhitaryan pass.

The Belgian will now try to carry his form into the Champions League but midfielder Ander Herrera is calling for caution ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Basel.

“It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t played Champions League before, he has scored goals and played in the best league in the world so he will score goals for us,” said the Spaniard.

“We are a big club – maybe the biggest in the world – but we were not in Champions League last season and we have to take it step by step. We cannot think of winning the Champions League now we have to take it one step at a time.”

STOKE (3-4-2-1): Butland 7; Zouma 7, Cameron 6 (Martins Indi 46, 6), Wimmer 5; Diouf 6, Allen 6, Fletcher 7, Pieters 5; Shaqiri 6, Choupo-Moting 8; Jese 6 (Berahino 75). Goals: Choupo-Moting 43, 63. Next up: Newcastle (a), Saturday, PL.

UK ‘talking to itself over Brexit,’ French ambassador jibes https://briefnews.eu/uk-talking-to-itself-over-brexit-french-ambassador-jibes/ https://briefnews.eu/uk-talking-to-itself-over-brexit-french-ambassador-jibes/#respond Wed, 06 Sep 2017 16:00:50 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/uk-talking-to-itself-over-brexit-french-ambassador-jibes/

Britain is “talking to itself” over Brexit and should spend more time listening to the EU, the outgoing French ambassador to London has said, while suggesting European leaders are more interested in issues other than the divorce.

Sylvie Bermann, who is ending her term after three years, also jibed that when she took on her job in 2014, Britain was a “secure and stable” country but things were “a bit different now.”

Speaking on the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Bermann said Britain appeared to be “talking to themselves” a lot.

“I think it is very important that they also listen to the 27. The situation is very complex … in this country you are talking from morning to night about Brexit.

“That is not the case in the EU. There is a discrepancy. I think it is important to have in mind others’ position.”

The comments are likely to ramp up tensions over Brexit amid a war of words between the two sides.

Last week, Brexit negotiator Guy Verhofstadt said the EU had “bent over backwards” for Britain, shooting down David Davis’s claims that Brussels’ approach to the talks are inflexible. He also claimed Britain is “not negotiating seriously” as the stand-off over the divorce bill intensified.

European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker lambasted Britain over its preparation for the negotiations, saying none of its position papers are satisfactory. He said there is still an “enormous” number of issues to be settled.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Theresa May has defended moves to restrict EU migration after Brexit, as leaked government documents reveal a planned crackdown on unskilled European migrants.

The government’s proposals drew criticism from some Labour MPs, with one calling the plan “plainly cruel.” Some business associations worried about the possible impact on industries that are especially reliant on migrant workers, such as catering and retail.

May told the Commons at Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) that immigration to the country had been good overall, but people want to see tighter controls on migrants with Brexit.

Moment Tony Robinson LASHES OUT at Miranda Hart over 'Sir' jibes in awkward One Show chat https://briefnews.eu/moment-tony-robinson-lashes-out-at-miranda-hart-over-sir-jibes-in-awkward-one-show-chat/ https://briefnews.eu/moment-tony-robinson-lashes-out-at-miranda-hart-over-sir-jibes-in-awkward-one-show-chat/#respond Thu, 09 Mar 2017 12:35:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/moment-tony-robinson-lashes-out-at-miranda-hart-over-sir-jibes-in-awkward-one-show-chat/

Sir Tony, 70 – who was knighted by Prince William back in 2013 – chatted to hosts Matt Baker and Angela Scanlon, but when they continuously mocked his title, the actor fumed that it was “really brassing him off”.

He screamed: “Can everyone stop saying Sir Tony, it’s really brassing me off.”

Miranda – who also joined Celebs Go Dating narrator Rob Beckett on the sofa – swiftly replied: “But it’s really exciting that you’re called Sir Tony!”

Tony and Miranda aside, Angela was also left rather red-faced last night after she suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue.

She was heard telling viewers: “Absolutely, getting rid of clit – clutter and building waste can be a real pain and that’s no excuse for fly-tipping, which is on the rise across the country. Dom has been to find out whether the latest enforcement action will make a difference.”

The 33-year-old Irish star quickly corrected her mistake but laughs could be heard in the BBC studio as people picked up on the X-rated blunder.

Even Angela’s co-presenter Matt was seemingly seen trying to suppress a smile as she carried on doing a piece to camera.

Despite the momentary slip, her mix-up still set social media alight as viewers rushed to comment about the hilarious scene.

“Never get the words clutter and litter mixed up… #TheOneShow,” one person posted on Twitter.

A second added: “#theoneshow dying at the slip of tongue tonight… #clitgate #clutter Poor Matt baker. Well recovered.”

A third went on: “The joys of live TV: ‘Getting rid of clit… *splutters* Clutter! Can be a real pain…’ #theoneshow.”

The One Show continues tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
