A Jet2 flight from Manchester Airport was grounded in Prague following a “potential bomb threat” on the plane. According to a passenger, a “threatening note” had been found in one of the aircraft’s bathrooms. Travellers were told to evacuate without their belongings on arrival at Prague Airport. Police proceeded to check all cabin baggage and interview passengers. Firefighters also arrived on the scene. Fliers were held at a terminal gate for around four hours during the search, 26-year-old Beth Parkinson told Manchester Evening News. She revealed that a single toilet cubicle at the front of the aircraft was locked for roughly 30 minute before the plane landed. “We were just told the flush was broken and we should use the toilets at the back of the plane,” she told M.E.N. “Everything seemed normal during the flight. “As soon as we landed the captain said someone had left a threatening note in a toilet and we were not to move and had to leave everything on the plane.” Beth added that they were given water, tea and biscuits using the wait but were given no further information about the threat. Prague Airport confirmed the incident on Twitter. They posted “Hello, @PolicieCZ checked the aircraft because of potential bomb threat. “At the moment all cabin baggage need to be checked, estimated time is after 10 pm. Please contact handling employees on site for further information. Thank you.” They later added: “Update: All checks are finished with negative results. The flight back to Manchester will be operated by backup aircraft around midnight. Departing PAX should contact their handling agents in the gate for additional info.” Passengers also took to Twitter during the incident, with some claiming the threatening note was a picture of a bomb. “Sons out there. Had to evacuate the plane and take nothing with them. No bag passport nothing. Was hoping someone could get info,” one Twitter user posted. “Prague airport tweeted bomb scare. A picture of a bomb was found in the toilet and now al bags are searched 1 at a time. Police everywhere (sic).” A Jet2 spokesperson told Jet2: “Czech Authorities were called to undertake security checks on one of our aircraft in Prague yesterday, due to a security alert. “The aircraft has been cleared to return to service following these checks. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused, however the safety and welfare of everyone onboard will always be our number one priority.” Express.co.uk has contacted Prague Airport for further comment on the incident. Last week a Ryanair passenger was left needing surgery after a laptop fell on her head. The woman – whose name and age are not known – was disembarking a Ryanair flight from London Stansted to Lisbon, Portugal when the incident took place. It is understood she was removing her hand luggage from the overhead locker of the aircraft. As she did so, a laptop fell out and hit the passenger on the head leaving her with a 2.5cm opening on her scalp. UK flights with free hand luggage included are slowly being phased out in the airline market as many remove the bags allowed into the cabin. Wizz Air and Ryanair are the latest to remove free suitcases being allowed onboard. Etihad recently announced the launch of their new hand luggage only tickets as budget travellers aim to save the pennies. Express.co.uk investigates the different weight limits of UK airlines for passengers who pack on the heavier side. Passengers are not currently allowed any free hand luggage into the cabin. Travellers who want to take a bag onboard can either pay for Priority Boarding, costing £6, or pay for a bag which is £8. Bags which are considered hand luggage sized must weigh no more than 10kg to be allowed onboard. The low-cost airline is the only one on the market to currently offer no weight limit for hand luggage passengers. The bag is also included in the price of a ticket, although small handbags or laptop bags must also fit into this. Passengers flying on Jet2 are allowed 10kg of free luggage onboard. This is included in the airfare for all travellers. For travellers who book the most basic airfare when flying with Thomas Cook, they are allowed little in weight in regards in their hand luggage. Suitcases being taken into the cabin must weigh no more than 6kg. This increases to 10kgs for Premium Class passengers. If the weight exceeds the limit then it is placed in the hold for an extra charge. Tui allows just one piece of hand luggage onboard weighing 5kg. This is half the weight of many airlines and is the same for both TUI flights and TUI package holidays. Premium club travellers are allowed 7kg in their hand luggage. Other airlines offer up to 23kg in hand luggage bags, such as British Airways. Virgin Atlantic and Flybe offer 10kg in weight for hand baggage while Etihad and Emirates allow 7kg in weight. The Jet2 flight returned from Spain last night to Leeds at 9:45pm when the incident occurred. After landing, two ambulances and a Hazardous Area Response team were dispatched to the area. Passengers were reportedly being violently sick due to the bug after landing at the airport. No-one was reported to have been taken to hospital. One passenger told Yorkshire Evening Post: “We were stuck on the run way for nearly a hour waiting for the emergency services to attend and give us the all clear.” Another took to Facebook to praise the services of the crew, saying people onboard were “dropping like flies,” according to the BBC. West Yorkshire Police Sergeant Chris Brumfitt tweeted images at the time of the response. He wrote: “Joint emergency service response to Leeds / Bradford airport tonight after reports of a number of people falling ill on an in-bound flight. “Fortunately nothing more than a sickness bug.” A spokesperson for Jet2 confirmed to Express.co.uk: “We can confirm that the crew on board flight LS298 from Reus to Leeds Bradford Airport arranged an ambulance for two passengers who were taken ill. “The crew were alerted to a further two, non-associated cases of passengers feeling unwell on board. “On arrival, as a precaution they were immediately checked over in the ambulance before heading home. “All other passengers disembarked as normal and continued their journeys. The safety and care of our customers is always our first priority.” Sickness bugs can spread very easily on a plane thanks to the circulated air inside the cabin. Turning the air vent off above a seat, however, could mean catching even more germs. The blast of air from the overhead fan can help push any germs in the air that are spread through compartments of the plane ctowards the floor. The medical director at Lahey Medical Center-Peabody told Travel + Leisure it can block particles that spread through the air from the passenger. He said: “As a rule of thumb, the air that you’re typically breathing and exposed to is usually anywhere from two to five rows surrounding your seat.” The air vent therefore pushes the air downwards which can help to avoid falling sick. A Jet2 flight was forced to execute a “full speed” emergency landing at Manchester Airport after the wing flaps – which serve to slow the plane down – broke before landing. The flight from Crete was due to land at Leeds Bradford Airport but began circling at around midnight on Friday after a delayed take-off as the wind flaps were malfunctioning. The wing flaps help to decrease the plane’s speed as it comes into land. The captain told the Jet2 passengers that they were circling due to a “technical error on the flight deck.” The captain decided to do an emergency landing at Manchester Airport as the hub has a longer runway. Passengers have told how the “full speed” landing was “absolutely petrifying” and even the captain seemed scared. A mother-of-three on board, who didn’t want to be named, told the Manchester Evening News: “The captain said we needed more stopping room because we’re going to be coming in at full speed and just using the brakes. “Everyone tried to remain really, really calm. There were a lot of kids on board, as you can imagine. “Even the captain’s voice was shaking, he sounded scared but he just tried to reassure us saying ‘it’s going to be a bumpy landing, we’re going to be greeted by fire engines – but your safety is paramount’. “It was quite scary coming down the runway, there were fire engines there straight away. You could see the smoke coming off the wheels and the brakes were screaming.” The mum explained that she got into the brace position as she tried not to panic her children. Other people remained surprisingly calm but one or two people were texting their family, the passenger told M.E.N. Luckily the plane successfully landed at Manchester Airport with no reports of any injuries. The passengers applauded the captain and he came out to greet everyone afterwards. The fliers praised the captain’s skill but thought he looked quite “shaken up.” Other passengers revealed they feared the plane was going to be set on fire from the technical malfunction. “He couldn’t use the flaps to slow down so as soon as we hit the ground he would have to brake flat-out,” Penie Craig, 49, told Hull Live. “It was just awful and my first thought was, ‘Oh my God, the plane was going to set on fire’ but I had to be calm because my son was there. “When we did land there were six fire engines on the runway and my son said he saw them spray the wheels with water because they were that hot from the pilot having to break so hard.” Jet2 organised coaches to take passengers back to Leeds Bradford afterwards. A spokesman told Express.co.uk: “On descent towards Leeds Bradford Airport flight LS444 from Heraklion went into a holding pattern in order to assess a flap indication issue. “The decision was taken to divert into Manchester Airport as a precautionary measure due to it having a longer runway to facilitate a smooth landing. “The aircraft landed safely and onward transport was arranged for our customers back to Leeds. The safety of our customers is always our number one priority.” Earlier this week, it was revealed a drunk Jet2 passenger had caused a woman to have a seizure after she panicked and screamed “We are all going to die” when their flight circled East Midlands Airport.

Jet 2 passenger furious when he’s moved next to ‘stinky toilets’ to accommodate Coleen Rooney (Image: Getty Images/Mark Cassin/Facebook)
Jet2 has been accused of relegating a passenger and his family to seats next to the “stinky toilets” so Coleen Rooney – wife of footballer Wayne Rooney – could sit in their seats with her family – although Rooney claims she was totally unaware of the incident.
Mark Cassin, 51, has taken to Facebook to complain of the incident on the Jet 2 flights from Faro in Portugal to Manchester Airport on 28 July.
The father-of-one said he paid a total of £2735 for the return flight, including £60 to reserve their seats of choice. He was travelling with Lynn, his son Joshua, 15, dad Tom, 75, Lynn’s sister Kathryn Pullar, 48, and her partner Richard Townend, 45. However, Cassin was shocked when cabin crew showed them to seats at the back of the plane next to the toilets.
He claims that a flight attendant informed him that Coleen Rooney needed to sit in their seats instead in order to be seated with everyone in her family. Rooney was travelling with three children age eight and below. She has four children with Wayne Rooney, all boys: Kai, eight, Klay, five, Kit, two and baby Cass Mac.
During the flight the stench from the toilets was quite unpleasant and because of this we did not partake in any food as a party of six, though your attendants did intermittently spray air freshener
Rooney has defended herself in a series of tweets: “First of all this is the first I know about the situation…. I was given these seats on check in and that was that. I didn’t ask for certain seats just took what I was given.
“The seats were at the back of plane so no extra leg room etc to moan about. I was with my three kids and two brothers….. three on one row and three on another. Also Jet 2 has said you have to be 14 or above to sit on back row? So maybe this was the reason as I had three children age eight and below.
“The man whose complaining with the very sarcastic attitude is trying to make me out as some diva … which I am far from… I didn’t know about this situation as I said and I am just a mum travelling with young kids like everyone else.”
In a long Facebook post, Cassin explained that the toilets were so smelly that they couldn’t order food and that cabin crew had to spray air freshener to mask the pong.
Cassin believes he was treated differently to Rooney because she is a celebrity while he is not – and he is furious at this discrimination.
Rooney has now taken to Twitter to criticise Cassin and maintains she knew nothing about his family being moved – she “just took what [she] was given” – and wasn’t even aware of the incident until today.
Cassin posted on Facebook on Wednesday: “Despite raising a formal complaint 10 days ago, to date l have received nothing more than a short note, stating our complaint will be responded to within 28 days.
“How the heck does it take 28 Days… well l presume its so that customers give up during that time and Jet2 get away with treating its customers like second-class citizens (sic).” He then added his official complaint, sent to customer service on 28 July 2018.

It read: “I wish to complain in the strongest terms in regards our seating being forcibly changed on the above flight yesterday (Sat 28/7/18 Faro to Manchester: LS870) against our wishes and despite our strong objections.
“We paid an additional amount(s) per seat to pre book where we wished to be seated when we booked the flights originally, as in the past we have been unfortunate enough to be placed right next to the toilet positions on flights.
“We booked six seats which amounted to a full row covering both sides of the aisle, Row 29 to be precise, which should have been far enough away from the toilets.
“On arrival at the check in at Faro, we were advised by your Jet2 representative that our seating had been changed to accommodate another group of passengers, which l advised your representative was a ludicrous rationale, as we had booked a full row, so how could moving us make any difference and l wished to complain and have the seats we had booked and paid extra for.
“Our representative stated she was unable to change the seating, but would raise our complaint with her manager, though thereafter we had no feedback whatsoever whilst at the airport nor as we boarded the flight.
“We did however find, on boarding that we were now seated in row 33, right at the very back of the aircraft and right in front of the toilets and then galley.
“We asked the flight attendants why we had been moved and they advised it was to accommodate another group of passengers, which included someone who was a celebrity, someone called Coleen Rooney and her party.

“During the flight the stench from the toilets was quite unpleasant and because of this we did not partake in any food as a party of six, though your attendants did intermittently spray air freshener.”
Cassin added: “I find it truly appalling that just because someone has a modicum of celebrity that your company finds it acceptable to forcibly evict/move other paying passengers to facilitate their whims.
“We booked these flights months ago, paid extra for pre booking our seats and you breached that contract and placed our full party next to stinky toilets, making a very unhappy ending to a pleasant vacation.
“As such l would like to lodge a formal complaint against this despicable treatment, the poor management of our flight booking, compensation for being moved right next to the stinky toilets which made a very poor conclusion to our family vacation and a full refund of the pre booking fees for the seats.”
A spokesman for Jet2 told Express.co.uk: “The aisle seats on the back row of our aircraft must be occupied by passengers aged 14 or above, so this move was necessary for us to meet safety and operational requirements, whilst keeping Mark and his family on the same row.
“We have already been in touch with Mark to apologise for his relocation from row 29 to 33 and have offered a full refund for the cost of the pre-booked seats.”
A TUI plane punctured two tyres on the runway at Fuerteventura Airport leaving the airport closed for several hours.
Dozens of flights were disrupted including a Jet2 flight to Newcastle which was due to depart at 9:30pm on Monday.
Around 200 people were due to board the plane ended up being ushered intoan arrival lounge and spent the night sleeping on the floor, passengers said.
Longbenton grandmother, Brenda Prior, 69, and her wheelchair-using sister Iris Mowett, 73, spent an uncomfortable night on the airport floor with no information from Jet2 staff.
“We were told there would be a delay when we checked in but didn’t think it would be anything like this,” she told the Chronicle.
“There’s around 200 of us waiting, the plane that was supposed to take us home was diverted to Lanzarote so we’re just waiting.
“At around half three the Jet2 staff disappeared and we’ve just been left, it’s shocking really, my sister is in a wheelchair and there’s little ones here all lying on the floor.
“We’ve been given €20 for food and water but theres only got us a sandwich. It’s shocking, it’s not good enough.”
Newcastle Airport website says the flight is now scheduled to arrive at 7:30pm on Tuesday, though Brenda said they’ve not been told that.
Lisa Henderson, 33, from Consett, has been stranded with her two-year-old baby and her partner overnight.
She said: “We’ve run out of nappies and I was told just to ask for some from other parents.
“No one knows what is going on, there are cockroaches crawling on the floor and we’ve had to break into the cafe to get milk for our babies.
“It’s been 12 hours now with no food or sleep and there’s no assistance.”
A spokesperson for Jet2 said it has been unable to secure overnight accommodation for the stranded passengers on Monday night and apologised
for the situation.
They said: “Due to an incident involving another airline at Fuerteventura Airport, the runway was closed for several hours, causing major disruption to all airlines flying to and from Fuerteventura. As a result, our scheduled LS522 flight to Newcastle was unable to depart.
“Despite our best efforts, we were unable to source suitable accommodation at such short notice, however we will be taking our customers to a hotel today where lunch and day room facilities will be available before their flight departs at 5pm.
“We apologise to all affected customers for any inconvenience caused by these extraordinary circumstances, which were completely beyond out control.”
In July this year, a Jet2 plane made a dramatic emergency landing for the second time in two weeks.
The travel operator has apologised to passengers after a Jet2 plane made a dramatic emergency landing on Friday.
Oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling as the plane began to rapidly descend after a “technical fault”.
The flight was travelling from Newcastle to Prague but had to divert to Frankfurt instead.
Passengers said the pilot shouted “emergency” just over an hour into the journey.
Others said their ears popped due to the rapid decompression in the cabin.
It was the second time in two weeks that the same aircraft had to make an emergency landing.
The 30-year-old plane was travelling from Ibiza to Leeds on July 16 when it was forced to divert to Barcelona.
Oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling on this flight too.
An alarm blared out shocking the unsuspecting passengers, before the captain announced on the tannoy to “prepare for an emergency descent”.
“On landing our crew liaised with everyone on board to ensure their welfare.
“Over the next few days our most senior engineers will be investigating the aircraft fully.
“At this stage it is too early in the process to comment on the cause of the technical fault.
“We would like to apologise to our customers, as safety is always our highest priority.”
