Epic Games has landed a major partnership for Fortnite — it’s bringing the National Football League into the fold. Starting Friday at 7PM ET, you’ll be able to buy NFL team outfits from the Battle Royale Item Shop, which you can customize with any of the NFL’s 32 team uniforms (as well as a Fortnite team) and add your own squad number from 1-99. The NFL cosmetics don’t stop there, as there will be gliders. emotes and resource harvesting tools with a football theme, while you can also pick up a referee outfit.
While it’s the first instance of Epic adding branded outfits to the game, this is not the first time it’s forged a partnership with other companies for Fortnite. Earlier this year, it teamed up with Marvel to add a limited-time mode where you could play as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s big bad, Thanos.

Cristiano Ronaldo fever is gripping Juventus FC.
Juventus, the biggest soccer club in Italy, sold 520,000 Ronaldo jerseys in just 24 hours, according to Yahoo Italy, The Guardian, and beIN Sports. As official Ronaldo jerseys cost about $ 120, that would be $ 62.4 million in total revenue — almost half his transfer fee.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

South Korea’s World Cup team responded to spying by the Swedish team by swapping their jerseys so that Sweden couldn’t tell them apart.
Taeguk Warriors coach Shin Tae-yong told reporters Sunday that his team swapped around their numbers after a member of Sweden’s coaching staff was caught trying to spy on their closed training session in Austria earlier this month.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

At their headquarters in New York, members of the United Nations Security Council have slipped out of their formal dress to welcome the start of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, wearing the jerseys of their national teams.
Cheerful and relaxed, Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, welcomed his colleagues wearing a red jersey, with ‘Vassily’ written on the back. Kicking a ball around, the diplomats showcased their dribbling skills in front of the camera. The US envoy ‘Nikki’, who received cheers from the mostly male crowd, sported a white striped jersey of her national soccer team, which, unfortunately, had not qualified for the football tournament.
Secretary-General António Guterres, or simply ‘António’ for the day, wearing a referee’s t-shirt, welcomed the 15 members to the holiest of holy venues, the chamber of the UN Security Council.
After posing for a photo shoot, members of the council proceeded to watch the opening match that was played between Russia and Saudi Arabia in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. Just prior to the kickoff, Nebenzia ignited the spirit of the competition with a fiery speech.
Throughout the match, ‘Vassily,’ slipping outside the boundaries of the usual diplomatic protocol, could not help his excitement to cheer for Team Russia, which secured an impressive 5-0 win against the Saudis at the inaugural clash at the world’s top football tournament.

The Toronto Raptors and Canadian rap star Drake announced plans to grow their partnership Wednesday with a new program called Welcome Toronto.
Raptors president Masai Ujiri and Drake — who has served as the team’s global ambassador since 2013 — announced the program before the Raptors’ home game against the Detroit Pistons.
The team will host six Welcome Toronto-themed home games this season — beginning Jan. 26 against the Utah Jazz — where the Raptors will wear their Drake brand OVO uniforms and debut a new black and gold home court. The other games are Jan. 28 against the L.A. Lakers, Feb. 2 against Portland, March 9 against Houston, March 23 against Brooklyn and April 6 against Indiana.
Under the program, Drake and the Raptors will donate $ 1 million to refurbish local community basketball courts and another $ 2 million to Canada Basketball.
“Over the past four years, the Raptors’ relationship with Drake has always ultimately been about celebrating this city and the people that make it unique,” said Ujiri. “We have something very special happening in Toronto and Drake is a big part of that.
“We’re looking forward to this opportunity to continue working together to inspire and support young people, to showcase this great city around the world and to grow the game of basketball.”
The Raptors and OVO have pledged $ 1 million over the next three years to refurbish and refresh local community basketball courts. Over the next five years, the Raptors and OVO will contribute a total of $ 2 million to Canada Basketball.
“As this team and Toronto continues to grow, we have seen how much we can do together,” Drake said. “Welcome Toronto is about celebrating our team and our city, but also working together to give back to the community and creating a place where the youth of our city can come together to play.
“These same courts could also potentially shape the next generation of Canadian basketball superstars.”
]]>“There was some wrongdoing (on the part of Russia). Nobody will say something against that. But 50 days before the start of the Games… not giving the country the right to use the flag and the anthem. It’s a very-very tough decision,” Fazel said, commenting on the International Olympic Committee banning the Russian official delegation from going to the PyeongChang Games in February over doping accusations. The IOC only allowed “clean” Russian athletes to take part in the Olympics independently.
“I would say that the follow-up of the decision to actually manage this in a way to bring a hockey team (Russia) to PyeongChang is not easy,” he said. According to the hockey boss, it was a rather difficult task to tell the Russian men’s hockey team, “which was clean at the Olympics in Sochi… that you can go to the Olympics, but without your flag and anthem.”
The International Ice Hockey Federation is going to obey and “respect” the IOC ruling on Russia, he said. “The IOC executive board has made a decision and we have to follow up, even if I’m not happy about that,” Fazel said, adding that “we have to keep the collateral damage as small as possible.”
The IIHF president stressed that the IOC ruling didn’t mean that the Olympic tournament will be left without the “Red Machine,” which is the Russian team’s nickname. “You don’t need the jersey to be the Red Machine. Just be the Red Machine,” he said.
“You can’t just by a name, by a logo or by a collar decide that it’s not the Russian team anymore. The Russian team is the Russian team. And the fans will definitely see them as such. And for us, the hockey people, it’s the Russian team.”
Fazel added that the hockey federations of other countries represented at the Olympics “are all supporting and showing support to the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. And that for me, it’s a very good sign that, in ice hockey, we have this family spirit.”
He also said that he understood that Olympic ban was “not easy to accept” for the Russians as Moscow blasted the ruling as unfair and politically motivated. According to Fazel, the Russian reaction was justified as “if they’d accepted that easily it would’ve been a wrong signal. It shows that you (Russians) have your national pride.”
Earlier this month, the IOC sanctioned Russia based on the results of the investigation by the IOC Disciplinary Commission led by Denis Oswald, which, according to Olympic chiefs, confirmed “the systematic manipulation of the anti-doping rules and system in Russia.”
Fazel also addressed the fate of Russian women’s hockey squad, which had several players banned over doping accusations and its result at the home Games in Sochi 2014 annulled. The hockey boss said it wasn’t yet clear “if the players that played in Sochi could participate in South Korea,” but promised that the IOC and IIHF will rule on the issue early next week. “In principle, if everything is going well they should participate in the Games,” he added.
“It will be a pretty good hockey tournament” in PyeongChang, despite the National Hockey League not allowing its players to participate at the Games in South Korea, Fazel said. He said that the Olympic hockey tournament was being held since 1920 and the guys from the NHL only started appearing in it from 1988. However, he acknowledged that the absence of the stars from the North American league was “a disappointment for me, but it’s a real disappointment for the hockey fans.”

The jersey announcement will take place in Toronto, three months before the men and women take to the ice in Pyeonchang, South Korea, and four months prior to the Paralympic Games.
On the men’s side, Canada is the two-time defending Olympic champion, but will be without the services of NHL players this time around.
The Canadian women are seeking an unprecedented fifth straight Olympic title.
The Paralympic men’s team, meanwhile, won gold at the 2006 Torino Olympics and bronze four years ago in Sochi, Russia.

NBA on TNT
As the 2017-18 NBA season tips off this week, many players will make their debut with new teams after one of the wildest offseasons in the history of the league.
But one of the biggest changes in the league has not just one player switching jerseys, but every player, as the NBA ended their partnership with Adidas and made Nike their official outfitter.
The new jerseys came out to much fanfare, with every team releasing a new look with a Nike swoosh (or Jordan Jumpman logo in the cast of the Hornets), and many teams featuring corporate sponsorship for the first time. Nike was also quick to do away with the much-maligned sleeved jerseys that fans and players alike largely disliked.
But while there were many things to like about Nike’s new jerseys, they have already showed that they have a major flaw — they rip a little too easily.
On opening night, LeBron James’ jersey tore straight down the back, right between the numbers. The tear came after Jaylen Brown defended James and grabbed at his back.

In other circumstances, the tear could’ve been chalked up to an unfortunate accident, but it was not the first time the new jerseys have come apart during their brief stint of in-game action.
During the preseason, Lakers’ guard Tyler Ennis’ jersey tore around the numbers.

Basketball fans on Twitter were quick to notice the tear, and make their jokes accordingly.

If Lebron had an @UnderArmour Jersey on it wouldn’t have torn lol

It is still early, but if problems like this persist, Nike may have to make adjustments to the way they construct their jerseys. At the very least, it’s not the type of publicity the brand was hoping for this early into their NBA debut.

Some football fans are raging against players’ decision to demonstrate during the national anthem.
After more than a year of Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players sitting and kneeling during the national anthem, the controversy over their protests has reached a tipping point.
More players than ever before knelt or sat during the anthem on Sunday, after Trump argued that those who did so should be suspended or fired.
On Friday, Trump said: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now, out — he’s fired!'”
Some NFL fans who agree with Trump showed their support of the president — and their anger at players — by burning their teams’ merchandise.
Robert Smith posted a video of himself on Sunday burning more than $ 1,000 worth of Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise, the Daily Mail reported. Earlier that day, the Steelers had not participated in the anthem, with the exception of offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who served three tours of duty as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan before beginning his NFL career.

“We have morals in this country. We stand for this country,” Smith says in the video, which has more than 50,000 views as of Monday afternoon. “My great-uncle’s bones are lying in the bottom of Pearl Harbor for this country, for this flag, for your freedom to play in the NFL.”
“Super Bowl, right? As if I care,” Smith continues, pouring lighter fluid on the gear. “I care about our country. I care about our freedom.”
Smith wasn’t the only fan taking action and posting evidence online.

At least two groups of Baltimore Ravens fans posted videos of themselves burning merchandise on Sunday. Some players on the Ravens stood arm-in-arm during the anthem, while many others, including Mike Wallace, Tony Jefferson, Terrell Suggs, and former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, chose to kneel.
“You have problems with things, that’s great,” says a woman in a YouTube video during which she burned Ravens merchandise. “But, you don’t disrespect the flag and you don’t disrespect the people that died for your freedoms.
One self-described Seattle Seahawks fan of 40 years posted a video of himself on Twitter lighting a jersey on fire in a trashcan.

On Sunday, the Seahawks stayed in their locker room as the national anthem played before their game in Tennessee.
Many other people voiced their support online for those burning their jerseys and other gear.

Players have said that their decision to kneel or sit is not intended to disrespect the military or veterans, but instead to draw attention to police violence against black Americans and, more recently, issues with Trump’s own behavior.

Nike is the new apparel maker for the NBA and tonight it officially rolled out updated jerseys for the teams. They’re specially constructed to keep players cool and allow for freedom of movement, but there’s a new feature for fans too. They’ll debut the new NikeConnect system, which relies on a mobile app of the same name that reacts to NFC tags embedded in the jerseys. The hook is the ability to unlock “premium content” like “pregame arrival footage, highlight packages and top players’ favorite music playlists.” One hook that may work for gamers is the inclusion of specific boosts for NBA 2K18 players that are unlocked by buying that player’s jersey in real life.

For most fans the experience of wearing team apparel on gameday (whether they’re in the stadium or at home) is enough to make them feel plugged in, but this is an attempt to take things a step further. The NikeConnect system will be a part of the $ 110 “Swingman” replica jerseys and $ 200 authentic jerseys when they go on sale September 29th, but we might wait and see if Nike’s “Therma Flex Showtime Warm-up Jacket” can bring the offseason’s fabled Hoodie ‘Melo to life in the regular season before making a purchase.
