Actor-comedian Jerry Stiller, arguably best known as the irritable Frank Costanza, father of Jason Alexander’s George Costanza, on Seinfeld, has died. He was 92. His actor-son Ben Stiller confirmed the news on social media early Monday, writing, “I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes. He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband to Anne for about 62 years. He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad.” I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes. He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband to Anne for about 62 years. He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad. pic.twitter.com/KyoNsJIBz5 — Ben Stiller (@RedHourBen) May 11, 2020 Stiller famously served as one half of the comedy duo Stiller and Meara opposite his wife, Anne Meara, who died in 2015. The pair were among the first graduates of the Second City comedy troupe. In addition to his recurring gig on Seinfeld (in which he made 26 total appearances over the series’ nine-season run), Stiller’s other major TV credit was the series-regular role as Arthur Spooner — widowed dad of Leah Remini’s Carrie — on CBS’ The King of Queens. He also lent his voice to the Disney Channel animated series Fish Hooks. On the big screen, Stiller co-starred opposite son Ben in Zoolander, Heavyweights, Hot Pursuit, The Heartbreak Kid and Zoolander 2. The following contains spoilers from Friday night’s Season 10 premiere of CBS’ Hawaii Five-0. Hawaii Five-0‘s Kamekona might want to offer up a 10 percent discount on all menu items (beer and wine excluded!), seeing as the “Welcome back” party for Jerry doubled as a going-away party for longtime cast member Jorge Garcia, who is dropping to recurring status on the CBS drama. An alum of such series as Lost (which also filmed in Hawaii) and Alcatraz, Garcia made his Five-0 debut in early Season 4, when conspiracy theorist Jerry Ortega was introduced as an old high school classmate of Chin Ho Kelly’s. When Five-0 was renewed for its sixth season, Garcia was in turn promoted to series regular status. Toward the end of Season 7, after helping the team escape a deadly jam, the ever-resourceful Jerry got his badge from Steve and became an official member of the task force. But as revealed in the season premiere’s penultimate scene, though Jerry has recuperated from being shot by Azra Hassan, he has chosen to step away from the task force and live his life a bit differently — starting with the writing of a book that connects the United States Federal Reserve to the sinking of the Titanic. “I’m grateful for my time on Hawaii Five-0,” Garcia shared in an exclusive statement to TVLine. “I loved getting to return to the islands, and creating a character that connected with so many people. Playing Jerry was a blast, and I look forward to popping in again to play with my TV ohana.” Showrunner Peter M. Lenkov in turn said, “Jorge was a breath of fresh air from the very moment he joined the cast, and fans immediately took to Jerry’s quirkiness as well as his kindness. There will always be a place for Jorge and Jerry on Hawaii Five-0, and while we obviously wish Jorge the very best, we will sincerely miss him very much.” Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 airs Fridays at 8/7c. Jerry Springer is about to return to the daytime-TV ring, this time not as the referee of a veritable talk-show circus but as a proper, gavel-wielding judge. What is his early verdict on his adjudicating abilities? As Judge Jerry (premiering Monday, Sept. 9 in syndication), Springer — who worked as a lawyer for 15 years having received his law degree in 1968 from Northwestern University — will settle actual disputes between real people. (Co-executive producers Leah Ponce and Joe Scott previously worked on Judge Judy, Hot Bench and Divorce Court.) Springer’s venture behind the bench is but one of several daytime-TV debuts arriving this fall, alongside The Kelly Clarkson Show, Tamron Hall’s talker, and The Mel Robbins Show. TVLine spoke with Springer, who clocked in 4,000 episodes as a talk show host, about tackling something brand-new at age 75. TVLINE | So, how heavy are the shoulders that wear the robe? TVLINE | Lore has it that you decided against the senate run due to concerns about the “baggage” that came with your TV talk show. Does it thus blow you mind at all that the host of The Apprentice became no less than president? I imagine you’ve probably met Trump once or twice. TVLINE | Before we go, give folks one more reason to watch Judge Jerry. This is the view of former Cowboys scout Bryan Broaddus. The Cowboys are in a dire situation at the moment. They are 3-5 after their 28-14 loss to Tennessee Titans last week and now face an NFC East divisional rival game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Barring a huge u-turn in Dallas’ fortunes it is expected the Cowboys’ nine-year coach, Jason Garrett, will be replaced at some point. Broaddus, who still has a role with the organisation on its official website, believes that any new coach will have to satisfy Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and explain how they will get the most out of starting quarterback Prescott. “I think whoever, if in fact the Cowboys do make a coaching change, the first question Jerry Jones is going to ask is going to be about Dak Prescott,” Broaddus said. “I guarantee you that’s the first question they’re going to ask. “If they make a coaching change, whoever gives him the best plan to work on the further development of Dak Prescott, I think that guy’s going to get this job.” Following the Cowboys’ recent poor form Garrett is not the only one under pressure. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys considered moving on offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. It was also rumoured that they could be lining up University of Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley to replace Garrett. “The Cowboys seriously weighed moving on from OC Scott Linehan during the bye week,” Ian Rapoport said on Twitter. “And have an affinity for OU coach Lincoln Riley if they move on from Jason Garrett, who Mike Garafolo says may take back play-calling.” Another option for the Cowboys could be New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, who is reportedly wanted by Jones. “He was very envious of Scott Linehan’s first year with Dak Prescott,” Broaddus told the Dallas Morning News, regarding Payton. “Because Payton says, ‘I’ve got a veteran guy that I call plays for him and he changes every call I make.’ “And Payton goes, ‘Listen Drew [Brees], we’re gonna run the ball today.’ “Then next thing I know, we threw the ball 48 times and lost. He says, ‘That’s the difference right now.’” It has been reported that Garrett will see out the rest of the season, so the Cowboys do have time to approach a new coach that is right for for the team.

Well, I’ve been eating a lot, so they’re pretty heavy. No, honestly, this is the most excitement I’ve had in doing a show. I mean, my [daytime talk] show that I did for 27 years, it was fun, but it didn’t require any brainpower. But these are real cases, and I [tape] 35 cases a week, so it’s like I’m back practicing law again or back in law school. No one starts a show at 75!
Yeah, that is not normal. But honestly, it’s so challenging, it’s great. It’s hopefully keeping me young.
Literally, these are real cases. The people that file them all around the country, in all 50 states, have no idea they’re going to wind up on television. Out of the blue they get a call, “Would you like to have your case adjudicated on national television,” with me as a host? And that is a shock to them. Obviously, we pick out the most interesting cases, but it’s not a food fight. People dress as if they’re really going to court, because it really is a court.
Now, I’ll joke around just because I can’t help, but with the decisions I finally make, I want to treat these people with respect because these are serious issues for the people that bother to file the suit. And for some people it’s a lot of money, they want to be reimbursed 5,000 dollars, so I have to be serious about it.
Unbelievably so. I was not sure how this would be received, considering the reputation of my other show, but it’s unbelievable.
Oh, no, no.
TVLINE | Was this a case of you wanting to do anything different, or did you want to do this?
I had nothing to do with this; it came to me at the last moment. [NBCUniversal] apparently had been thinking about this as a follow-up to [The Jerry Springer Show], whenever it would end. They walked into my office about two months before that show was over and they assumed I knew about it, but I really didn’t. They said, “We think it’s a great move because you’ve got a daytime audience to begin with, and you have a fan base, and you are a lawyer, so….”
What distinguishes each of these court shows — and I feel more strongly about this than I did when I first started taping them — is the personality of the judge. The conflicts are the same but our personalities are different. Me, I guess I treat it as if I were their father or their grandfather. I can be stern but in a hopefully kind way. I’m not yelling at these people.
I guess so, yeah. In other words, it’s just me. Like, if this were my grandson or my daughter [as the defendant] and they did something wrong, this is how I would talk to them.
I have a bailiff, Najee Hinds, and he’s great. He gets a bonus every time he laughs at one of my jokes.
Oh, yeah, I’ve read it. I do a weekly podcast, too, which is a bit comedy but it’s also a political rant. So, yeah, I stay active politically.
The amazing thing about it is it’s so detailed, and I would not even argue, but just say, that the obstruction of justice charges are right there in print. There’s really not that much to debate. It’s just that impeachment is a political process and if you don’t have the votes because of the political party that’s in power in the senate, you’re never going to get [the president] removed. Impeachment’s easy; the removal is the tough part, with two-thirds [vote] required, so that’s not going to happen.
I was a host of Miss Universe in 2008, the year we did that pageant in Vietnam, so I was an employee of his and I met him a few times. And honestly, he’s been nothing but nice to me. I never had a bad word to say about him at all. I just don’t want him to be president; it’s not personal. I told my best friend, “You know, you’re my best friend but I just don’t think you should be the president.” I have family members I don’t want to be president, and that doesn’t mean I don’t love them. I don’t mix the two up. I’m not going around saying, “Oh, I wish him evil.” I don’t. I just don’t think he should be president.
I’ve got expenses, you know. [Laughs] No, I think it’ll be not just entertaining but interesting. If you think I’m a certain way because of the TV show, I think you may be surprised — and mostly happily surprised — by what you see with me as a judge.

“Did you know about Jerry?”
The implicit accusation in those words resound through the short teaser trailer for Paterno, HBO’s movie about the disgraced Penn State football coach whose shining legacy was tainted in the wake of a horrific child sex abuse convictions of his assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky. Al Pacino plays the titular Joe Paterno, a beloved football coach whose reputation bordered on idolatry in the small college town of Happy Valley.
Paterno covers the two-week period between the revelations of Sandusky’s 15-year history of sexually abusing children and firing of Paterno from his position at Penn State. The brief teaser shows us little except for flashes of the horrified expressions on Paterno’s family’s faces after learning about the scandal, the press hounding Paterno for a comment, and Al Pacino’s own crestfallen face as Joe Paterno, the Oscar-winning actor looking weary and perhaps a tad guilty.
“The question isn’t just what he knew, it’s what he did about it,” Pacino said during HBO’s TCA presentation of the film, according to Indiewire. “I think he knew there were complaints. He knew there were rumors. […] I don’t think he was very fond of Sandusky, for whatever reasons — I think there were other reasons.”
Paterno was a famed figure in the football and Penn State community, leading the college team through 46 seasons, winning 24 bowl games and two national titles. A statue of the coach was even erected outside Penn State’s Beaver Stadium — a statue that was removed in 2012, a year after the scandal broke. But Sara Ganim, who won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the Penn St. scandal and worked as a consultant on the series, said the shockwaves from the Penn State sex abuse scandal are still felt today in Happy Valley.
“[Paterno’s legacy is] still a hotly debated topic,” Ganim said, after being asked about how local Penn St. fans feel about the coach today. “Unfortunately […] it is a gray area for a lot of people. It’s not known one way or another what people knew.”
Here is HBO’s official synopsis of Paterno:
After becoming the winningest coach in college football history, Paterno’s legacy is challenged and he is forced to face questions of institutional failure. Academy Award® and Emmy® Award winner Al Pacino returns to HBO in the title role, as Penn State’s Joe Paterno in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.
Paterno is slated to premiere on HBO in the spring of 2018.

The Carolina Panthers are investigating “allegations of workplace misconduct” that were made against owner Jerry Richardson.
The team released a statement on Friday evening announcing the investigation. The team did not give any details about the allegations.
According to the team, the investigation is being conducted by an outside law firm, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan, LLP, and the investigation will be overseen by former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles, who is also a minority owner of the team.
“The Carolina Panthers and Mr. Richardson take these allegations very seriously and are fully committed to a full investigation and taking appropriate steps to address and remediate any misconduct,” team spokesman Steven Drummond said. “The entire organization is fully committed to ensuring a safe, comfortable and diverse work environment where all individuals, regardless of sex, race, color, religion, gender, or sexual identity or orientation, are treated fairly and equally. We have work to do to achieve this goal, but we are going to meet it.”
Richardson is a former NFL player. He has been the controlling owner of the Panthers since the franchise was founded in 1993.

The sale marked the first time anybody had ever paid more than $ 100 million for a sports team and it came just five years after the previous owner, H. R. (Bum) Bright, had purchased the Cowboys for $ 60 million. But if there was any thought at the time that Jones overpaid for a team that went 3-13 the year before, that has since been erased, several-fold.
In the 2000s, the value of the Cowboys franchise hovered around 30-60% more than that of the average NFL franchise. However, over the last decade, the Cowboys valuation has grown 220% from $ 1.50 billion to $ 4.80 billion, according to the latest valuations by Forbes, while the average franchise has increased 161% from $ 960 million to $ 2.50 billion.

The science fiction and technology worlds are poorer off this weekend, as author Jerry Pournelle has died at 84 after a sudden illness. He was best-known for collaborating with Larry Niven on classic novels like The Mote in God’s Eye, but he’s equally known as a strong advocate for technology and spaceflight. Significantly, he’s widely credited as the first major author to write a published novel entirely on a computer. He bought an extremely expensive ($ 12,000 in 1977 dollars) machine anticipating that it would let him edit and correct mistakes far more quickly than with a typewriter. While it’s virtually a given that authors will write with computers these days, Pournelle spurred many of his peers to buy PCs and ultimately usher in an era of digital writing.
His involvement wasn’t confined to the literary space, either. He was in charge of the Reagan administration’s Citizens Advisory Council on National Space Policy, and momentarily worked with Senator Newt Gingrich. In the last years of his life, he was also a frequent commentator on technology issues. He was a frequent guest on the TWiT network’s technology podcasts, for example.
Pournelle wasn’t without controversy. He was both praised and criticized for helping to spark the military sci-fi genre, rather than embracing a more hopeful view of the future. However, there’s little doubt that he played important roles in not only popularizing sci-fi, but linking that passion to real-world advocacy.
