Emmerdale viewers have been demanding the soap to end the grooming storyline between Maya Stepney (played by Louisa Clein) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) for weeks. And it seems the plot could come to a halt and make a dramatic change in direction as one fan predicts. It comes after Maya suffered a terrible fall earlier in the week, leaving her hospitalised and Jacob worrying about their future together. But scenes showed the teenager confess his love for his school teacher after finally giving in to her manipulating ways. However, it is only a matter of time until Maya oversteps the mark and interferes in Jacob’s relationship with Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele). Fans saw a darker side to Jacob when he turned on Maya and threatened her to leave him alone. Nevertheless, when this situation happens again, will Maya make a drastic effort to stay in his life? “This grooming storyline is vile on #Emmerdale is she going to turn into a stalker?” One fan suggested on Twitter. Another added: “#Emmerdale anyone else think mad Maya the school teacher is going to become Jacob’s creepy stalker?” Maya’s behaviour this week suggests she has the ability to turn into a predator watching Jacob from afar. “There is something I need to tell you. It’s about Cain Dingle,” she explained. Previous to this, she told Graham in a roundabout way how much she was willing to protect him from Cain’s criminal ways. Does this mean she she has dropped Cain in it? Or is this just the beginning of her probing further into Graham’s involvement with Joe going missing? It comes after yesterday’s episode where both Graham and Cain dropped a huge clue in relation to Joe potentially being alive. During a conversation with the police both men said Joe “walked away” from the scene at Home Farm. Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
Since then, Jacobs and his team from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. have played in two events — they've looked great in both with replacements including winning the Canada Cup in Estevan, Sask., with Marc Kennedy taking Fry's place.
The team also played in the Grand Slam event this week in Conception Bay South — this time they used Matt Wozniak in place of Fry, with E.J. Harnden moving from his usual second spot to third.
The team went undefeated in the round robin, however, they were eliminated from playoff contention Saturday after losing in the quarter-finals to Glenn Howard's rink.
Despite some turbulence surrounding the team since Fry's departure, there's been a calm and confidence they haven't been able to find over the last number of years.
"It's a really good string of games right now," Jacobs said. "It's been a long time since we've put this many games together and felt this good overall. There have been a number of frustrating points over the last number of seasons."
Watch highlights from Jacobs' run at the National:
Part of that stems from the work being done behind the scenes by Adam Kingsbury. He spent the last three seasons with Rachel Homan's team but left and joined Jacobs during the offseason.
A PhD candidate in sports psychology, Kingsbury is using everything he's learned in the academic world to help curlers and Jacobs says it's paying off for them.
"We really have to give him a lot of credit. The work he's done with our team and some key points he's had us working on has made a difference," Jacobs said.
While the team continues to go about its business, Fry continues to work on "personal growth and self-improvement." Shortly after the incident in Red Deer, he posted a statement saying he would do everything he need to do to get back on the ice.
"It has made me take a hard look in the mirror to understand what fuelled my unprofessional actions," Fry said in the statement posted to Twitter.
"I am committed to taking every step possible to ensure that this never happens again, and to make amends to those who have been negatively impacted."
Now it appears the team is hoping to have Fry back as soon as the next Grand Slam event at the beginning of January in North Battleford, Sask.
"Our hope is to have Ryan back for the next event. We have to regroup as a team," Harnden said. "We've been in constant contact with Ryan, checking in with him almost every day and seeing how he's doing."
"He's been messaging us after games congratulating us. We've been messaging him back and forth."
Harnden says despite their success without Fry in the lineup, it's been challenging at times missing a key member of their team.

"We'd all be lying if we didn't say the last number of weeks have been difficult," he said. "But at the same time maybe it brought all of us as a team together. Maybe it made it easier because we knew we just had to go out there and play and try focus in on what's in front of you."
Harnden says when they were considering finding replacements for Fry over the last couple events they were really intentional about who they choose to take his place.
"The one thing we focused in on as much as we could was finding people we felt could fit in personality-wise," Harnden said. "We wanted good curlers but even more importantly it was finding guys we got along well with."
Now they're ready to reassemble the team that won gold at the Olympics just four years ago.

Team Brad Jacobs will turn to a couple of curling veterans to fill the vacancy created by Ryan Fry's decision to take an indefinite leave after his disqualification from the Red Deer Curling Classic.
Two-time Olympian Marc Kennedy will play as a substitute at the Dec. 5-9 Canada Cup in Estevan, Sask., while Matt Wozniak will fill in at the Dec. 11-16 National in Conception Bay South, N.L., the team said Monday in a statement.
"It's mixed emotions," Kennedy said Monday from Toronto before boarding a flight to Edmonton. "I'm excited to get back out there, to test out my hip and to have a chance to play with a pretty incredible team. I'm looking forward to that. I know they've been through a tough couple weeks here.
"Hopefully I can come in and add a positive spark and help get them through this difficult time that Team Jacobs is going through."
Fry announced last week that he would be taking a break from the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.-based team to focus on his "growth and self-improvement." His decision came a few days after he was ejected from a World Curling Tour event for what organizers called unsportsmanlike behaviour resulting from excessive drinking.
Fry, who was playing as a substitute in Red Deer, was kicked out of the competition with teammates Jamie Koe, Chris Schille and DJ Kidby. All four players later issued statements to apologize for their actions.
Organizers said Fry broke three brooms and that the team used foul language and was disruptive to other players on the ice. The WCT fined Fry $ 1,000 and said that his behaviour was the reason for the team's disqualification.
"We are fortunate to have such great players step up and help us out in this time of need while Ryan takes the time he needs to manage his well-being," Jacobs said in an email. "It says a lot that two great players in Marc and Matt are willing to support us. We know they will fill Ryan's shoes very well and give us a great opportunity to compete as we try to win the Canada Cup and the National.

"We are excited to be only one week away from competing. Last week was a whirlwind for our team and quite stressful but thankfully it is behind us now. Our focus has now shifted to doing everything possible to be prepared for the Canada Cup. It's crucial we maintain a healthy mindset and are well rested going into the next few weeks of competition."
Fry, 40, won Olympic gold at the 2014 Sochi Games with the Jacobs team. They also won the Tim Hortons Brier in 2013.
Kennedy, 36, won Olympic gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games with skip Kevin Martin. He returned to the Pyeongchang Games this year with skip Kevin Koe but did not reach the podium.
Wozniak, 35, was a longtime second on a Winnipeg team skipped by Mike McEwen. That rink disbanded after last season with McEwen forming a new team with skip Reid Carruthers.
Wozniak will play his familiar position with Team Jacobs with E.J. Harnden moving to third, the team said in a post on Twitter.
Kennedy announced last March that he would be taking a break from competitive curling to recharge and rest a nagging hip injury. He took on a consulting position with Curling Canada and has been practising through the autumn.
He also teamed with Rachel Homan last month to win a mixed doubles event in Sherwood Park, Alta.
"I think once I get out there and start playing a couple ends, I feel it will all come back pretty quickly," Kennedy said. "Hopefully I can make as many shots as the team needs me to."
The Canada Cup men's and women's winners will earn spots in the 2021 Road to the Roar Pre-Trials. They will also qualify for a Curling World Cup event next season.
Fry has represented Northern Ontario on five occasions at the Brier. He also won four provincial titles (2009-12) with skip Brad Gushue out of Newfoundland and Labrador and won a Manitoba crown in 2007 with skip Jeff Stoughton.
Team Jacobs, which holds the No. 5 position in the men's world rankings, won a Grand Slam title earlier this month in Thunder Bay, Ont.

The Jacobs’ family semiconductor business, otherwise known as Qualcomm, has been battered by market forces in recent years and is now trying to fight a hostile takeover bid by Broadcom. While it remains to be seen whether Qualcomm will survive as an independent business, it seems that the founder’s scion will no longer have a hand in steering its fate.
Today, Qualcomm announced that Dr. Paul Jacobs had been removed as executive chairman of the company his father co-founded in 1985, though he will remain on the board. The company hinted that the move was in part an effort ensure that its handling of Broadcom’s unwanted overtures is above reproach.
The board named Jeffrey W. Henderson, to serve as an independent and non-executive chair. What remains to be seen is how this may or may not shift Qualcomm’s posture toward Broadcom’s offer.
“The Board is committed to the principles of strong corporate governance and believes that having an independent director as Chairman at this important juncture in Qualcomm’s history is in the best interest of the Company and our stockholders,” said Tom Horton, Qualcomm’s lead director, in a statement. “We are focused on maximizing stockholder value, and will consider all options to achieve that objective, as we seek to move Qualcomm forward by closing the acquisition of NXP, strengthening our licensing business, and capitalizing on the enormous 5G opportunity before us.”
More to come.

Defending champion Brad Gushue and wild-card skip Mike McEwen picked up wins in Monday’s early draw at the Brier, setting up a matchup of undefeated teams in the evening.
McEwen’s Winnipeg rink scored three in the 10th end in a 6-5 win over Nova Scotia as Jamie Murphy’s Halifax foursome suffered its first loss at the Canadian men’s curling championship in Regina.
Murphy had taken a two-point lead into the final end after scoring a deuce in the seventh and stealing one in the eighth and ninth.
Gushue joined McEwen at 3-0 with an 8-4 win over Jamie Koe of the Northwest Territories.
The 2017 Brier winner put the game away with three in the eighth end for his 114th career win at the event, an all-time record for a skip.
The early results set up a battle for top spot in Pool A in a rare matchup of two teams not representing provinces or territories. Gushue’s rink from St. John’s is competing at this Brier as Team Canada, while McEwen entered the main competition after winning the first-ever Brier wild-card game on the weekend.
Manitoba is being represented by Reid Carruthers, who is also undefeated at 3-0 and was idle in the morning draw.
In other early results, Alberta edged British Columbia 9-8 and Newfoundland and Labrador held on for a 7-6 win over Yukon.
McEwen and Gushue led Pool A after six draws, followed by Nova Scotia and Alberta at 2-1.
Manitoba and Northern Ontario were at 3-0 to lead Pool B, with Ontario at 2-1.
The Pool B teams played in an afternoon draw later Monday, with the Pool A teams returning for the evening draw.

Waymo’s lawsuit against Uber for allegedly stealing technology for self-driving cars hasn’t gone to trial yet, because the judge received a letter from the Department of Justice suggesting Uber withheld crucial evidence. That letter, with some redactions, is now available for all to read and it’s not good news for Uber. It was written by the attorney of a former employee, Richard Jacobs, and it contains claims that the company routinely tried to hack its competitors to gain an edge, used a team of spies to steal secrets or surveil political figures and even bugged meetings between transport regulators — with some of this information delivered directly to former CEO Travis Kalanick.

Alphabet’s self-driving arm Waymo is making the case that Anthony Levandowski created the autonomous trucking company Otto as a scheme to steal its trade secrets and sell them to Uber. In the letter, it says that members of the Uber SSG team Jacobs worked on traveled to Pittsburgh after it acquired the company to instruct Otto employees on how to use burner phones and ephemeral communications apps to avoid discovery in an expected lawsuit.
Jacobs has since testified that his attorney was mistaken about the allegations pertaining to Waymo, but now the case has been delayed until next year as a result of these claims unearthed during the ongoing criminal investigation. In a statement, Uber said “While we haven’t substantiated all the claims in this letter — and, importantly, any related to Waymo — our new leadership has made clear that going forward we will compete honestly and fairly, on the strength of our ideas and technology.”

It just never went the way the reigning champions wanted it to go.
Four years after standing on top of the curling world at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Brad Jacobs and his team from Northern Ontario aren’t going to get to defend their title.
Jacobs was eliminated from the playoffs at the 2017 Olympic trials in Ottawa on Thursday night despite defeating Mike McEwen 6-3.
“We still wanted to come out and win. We all talked about it. We wanted to go out and put in a great performance,” Jacobs said after the win.
The team needed the Brad Gushue rink to lose their Thursday night game to give them any chance of survival. Instead, Gushue defeated Steve Laycock 8-5 to lock up second spot.
“We were pretty depressed for the majority of the week. It was too little, too late,” Jacobs said.
He just couldn’t get traction. Jacobs was haunted by a last shot loss to Kevin Koe. He had an open draw for the win and threw his rock through the house.
But despite how difficult this week was, Jacobs was gracious after being eliminated.
“It’s on to the next one now and we wish all the teams who are still left the best of luck. I think Canada will be represented very well in men’s and women’s curling at the Olympics,” Jacobs said.
It’s been an emotional week for the team’s second, E.J. Harnden. He and his wife are expecting their second child any minute. He’s had a hard time focusing throughout their games and his emotions spilled over after Thursday night’s win.
“I knew I might miss the birth of my son if we were in,” Harnden said with tears in his eyes. “My wife and I had a whole plan in place to make sure she had the support she needed.
“My father came in and stayed with me all week with the full intention of having emotional support if I needed it.”
Wishing @eharnden83 and his wife Rachelle all the best with the birth of their second child (due any hour!) Safe travels home, E.J. pic.twitter.com/GvPnykEe1X
Harnden will not play in the team’s last game on Friday afternoon against John Epping. He’s catching a flight first thing to be with his wife.
“She’s 39-and-a-half weeks pregnant,” he said. “Fingers crossed I’ll be there for the birth of my baby boy.”
Harnden says the team battled as hard as they could the entire week, but just didn’t have it when they needed it.
“It’s disappointing. We wanted to come in and put a good week together and become the first team to repeat. The event is so hard and you have to be near perfect to win and we just weren’t.”
No men’s team in the history of the Olympics has been able to win back-to-back gold medals. That streak continues with Jacobs’ loss.
In 2013, the boys from the Soo burst onto the curling scene in Canada. They were brash, built and uncaring about what people thought of them.
“We were younger, fit, brought a lot of energy,” Jacobs said. “And that was more than people were used to.”
They rolled through the pre-trials event in 2013 to earn the right to play in the big show at the trials in Winnipeg. Jacobs, third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden carried that momentum to an undefeated Roar of the Rings.
The team steamrolled everyone in the round robin, going undefeated. Then they beat John Morris in the final to earn the right to represent Canada at the Olympics.
Jacobs points to a genuine ability to be brutally honest with and trust in each other as the reason they were able to capture gold for Canada at the Sochi Olympics, defeating Great Britain 9-3 in the championship game.
Now, a new Canadian men’s team will earn the chance to follow up Jacobs’ gold. Koe is through to Sunday’s final. Gushue is into the semifinal. There’s just one spot left for a number of men’s teams trying to stay alive in Ottawa.
Koe (7-0) booked his spot in the men’s final with a 7-4 victory over John Morris in the afternoon. Calgary’s Chelsea Carey (6-0) is guaranteed no worse than a tiebreaker appearance after a 9-8 win over Julie Tippin.
The top three rinks in the nine-team fields make the playoffs.
Gushue, from St. John’s, N.L., moved into second place at 5-2. Jacobs (3-4) beat Mike McEwen 6-3 in the nightcap to send the Winnipeg skip into a third-place tie with Carruthers at 4-3.
Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher (3-3) was also in the mix after edging Toronto’s John Epping 7-6 in an extra end. Laycock, from Saskatoon, fell to 2-5 and is out along with Morris (1-5), from Vernon, B.C., and Epping (1-6).
Carey gave up a four-point second end to Tippin but chipped away at the deficit, eventually stealing three points in the 10th for the win.
“Definitely lucky to pull that one out but we’ll take it,” Carey said.
A visibly frustrated Tippin, from Woodstock, Ont., did not stop to speak with reporters after the game.
Match Wrap: Rachel Homan continues torrid play, improves to 6-11:15
Ottawa’s Rachel Homan beat Edmonton’s Val Sweeting 7-5 in the evening. Homan was alone in second place at 6-1 and Sweeting was knocked out of the playoff mix at 3-4.
Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay, Ont., improved her playoff chances with a 5-3 win over Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg. Jones was in third place at 5-2 and McCarville was fourth at 4-2.
Sweeting, Casey Scheidegger (3-4) of Lethbridge, Alta., Winnipeg’s Michelle Englot (2-5), Tippin (1-5) and Toronto’s Allison Flaxey (0-7) will not play on the weekend.

The reigning Olympic men’s curling champions were perfect at the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings the last time around.
The 2017 Trials have been far less kind to Brad Jacobs and his team from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Chances of a repeat appearance at the Winter Games were all but dashed Thursday as Jacobs dropped a 9-5 decision to Reid Carruthers. The loss left Jacobs at 2-4 with only a slim chance of making it to a tiebreaker game.
“It’s a big surprise, it’s an incredible surprise,” said Team Jacobs coach Caleb Flaxey. “We didn’t expect to be in this situation.”
Kevin Koe (7-0) booked a spot in the men’s final with a 7-4 victory over John Morris in the afternoon. Fellow Calgary skip Chelsea Carey (6-0) is guaranteed no worse than a tiebreaker appearance after a 9-8 win over Julie Tippin.
Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay, Ont., improved her playoff chances with a 5-3 win over Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones. Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher remained in the mix after edging Toronto’s John Epping 7-6 in an extra end.
Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L., and Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen were tied for second place in the men’s standings at 4-2. Carruthers, from Winnipeg, was next at 4-3, followed by Bottcher at 3-3.
Laycock, from Saskatoon, and Jacobs were at 2-4. Morris, from Vernon, B.C., and Epping were eliminated from playoff contention at 1-5.
Entering evening play, Ottawa’s Rachel Homan was alone in second place at 5-1. She was followed by Jones at 5-2 and McCarville at 4-2.
Edmonton’s Val Sweeting was also still in the mix at 3-3. The other women’s teams in the field will not play on the weekend.
Winnipeg’s Michelle Englot (2-4) posted an 8-7 win over Toronto’s Allison Flaxey (0-7) in morning play. Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge, Alta., was 2-4 and Tippin, from Woodstock, Ont., dropped to 1-5.
Jacobs, meanwhile, ran the table four years ago in Winnipeg and went on to take gold at the Sochi Games.
He played well in wins over Morris and Gushue in round-robin play at Canadian Tire Centre but will look back at a stunning miss against Koe as a turning point. Jacobs was wide and heavy with an open draw to the eight-foot ring that would have given him a win.
The other key game was an 8-6 loss to Steve Laycock. Jacobs led 4-0 after the first end but was outscored 8-2 after that. Two more defeats would follow.
Against Carruthers, Jacobs seemed out of sorts from the start. Stones were missing the mark and sometimes sailing through the house.
Jacobs shot just 65 per cent in a game that was essentially a must-have.
“We came out here knowing that our fate was in our own hands and didn’t perform,” he said.
The top three rinks in the nine-team fields make the playoffs. Jacobs will need to win two in a row and get a lot of help to have a chance.
He’ll take on Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen on Thursday night knowing that his hopes of an Olympic repeat are essentially kaput.
“This is going to be extremely disappointing,” said second E.J. Harnden. “You work three to four years to try to do this all over again. I think it’s more disappointing the fact that in my mind, that we didn’t leave it all out there.”
Carruthers scored four in the fourth end, added a deuce in the seventh, and shot 90 per cent overall.
“We’ve got one more left,” Carruthers said. “If we can get to 5-3, we might have a sniff but there’s still some real good teams that have to lose.”
The Carruthers team shot 86 per cent overall to 81 per cent for the Jacobs rink.
Round-robin play continues through Friday night. If tiebreakers are necessary, they will be played Saturday morning.
The semifinals between the second- and third-place teams are set for Saturday. The first-place teams get a bye to Sunday’s finals.
The winners will represent Canada at the PyeongChang Games in February.
]]>Facing three Brad Jacobs’ stones in the third end, Gushue’s last shot picked debris on the ice and came to a screeching halt.
It led to a steal of three for Jacobs. It gave him a 4-0 lead. Game over. Jacobs cruised to the 7-4 victory Monday night at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.
“In an event of this magnitude and a game of that magnitude, you never want to see something like that,” said the winning skip, Jacobs.
“I actually said as I went to the bench I can’t remember I’ve seen something like that.”
And neither can Gushue.
“That was tough. It’s going to sting tonight,” he said. “It’s early in the week so this loss is not taking us out. But if we miss out by a game you might look back and think your Olympic hopes went out on a hair. That’s frustrating.”
Match Wrap: Brad Gushue falls victim to picked rock in loss to Brad Jacobs1:31
Gushue’s team wasn’t about to give up after going down 4-0. They bounced back with a two in the second, making it 4-2 heading to the fifth end.
But Jacobs wasn’t going to give Gushue any other opportunities to mount a comeback for the rest of the game. The win moves the northern Ontario team into third place in the standings.
“We’re 2-1 right now and we’re in a great spot. I love what I’m seeing from my teammates,” Jacobs said.
As devastating as Monday night’s loss was, Gushue isn’t panicking. In fact, he says he likes the way his team responded after the picked rock.
“I thought we played a hell of a game for the situation we faced. It’s a different game if that rock doesn’t pick,” he said.
Gushue also credited Jacobs for giving his team no room to comeback in the game.

With four games left and a 2-2 record, Gushue knows his team has to go on a run if they want to make it to the playoffs in Ottawa.
“We have to grind it out now. This makes it a little harder,” he said.
Gushue says running the table would nearly guarantee them a playoff spot if they were to finish with a 6-2 record. But his focus now is on his next game Tuesday night against Reid Carruthers of Manitoba.
It was a pivotal win for Jacobs, who was coming off a loss Sunday morning. The loss was fine, however, it was how it happened that was the problem.
Jacobs threw his last shot through the house in an extra end against Kevin Koe. He called it embarrassing after the game and took full ownership over it.
“I think it shows a lot about our team that we were able to park that loss and get the win tonight.”
But to get over the initial sting, the team headed to the Patch to drink off the loss Sunday.
“We had a few beers at the Patch. We had afternoon beers and just let it go. When you have a really devastating moment like that, a couple beers makes you feel better in a hurry,” he said.
Jacobs is the reigning Olympic champion and is now getting set for his next game Tuesday afternoon against Steve Laycock of Saskatoon.
As for the beer drinking after the win over Gushue?
“No beer tonight,” Jacobs said.
