Chicago P.D.’s Kim Burgess made a life-altering decision Wednesday that is sure to have a rippling effect on both her professional and romantic relationships. Marina Squerciati, who plays the overwhelmed officer, opened up to TVLine about what’s in store.

This week’s episode saw Intelligence investigate a string of carjackings which led to the crew uncovering an illegal child prostitution ring. The sensitive case also put Burgess in the path of Michaela, the young girl she previously helped in the Jan. 13 episode “Tender Age.” After Michaela’s caregiver decided to relinquish her guardian rights, Burgess stepped in to foster her former witness. The episode ended with the Intelligence officer slowly and carefully pulling out of the parking lot with Michaela in the backseat and terror written all over her face. Is Burgess ready to handle this kind of responsibility?

“I don’t think she knows [what she’s getting into]. She’s just going on instinct,” Squerciati says of Burgess’ big decision. “Ruzek hits the nail on the head [when he tells her] ‘I think you can’t stand to see another child loss,’ which I think is true. She realizes that most of these children, especially the older children, won’t fare so well, so that’s a motivating force.”

Squerciati added that she believes Burgess and Michaela “have a special connection,” which helps with their precarious new situation.

Patrick John Flueger with Marina Squerciati in Chicago P.D.It’s still too early to determine how exactly this major decision will impact Burgess professionally, but it looks like this could be a game-changer for her and Ruzek: “They were headed towards something, and I don’t think this is going to make them go that way anymore,” Squerciati explained. “There’s some things you have to give up [when you become a parent], and I think Burgess might think that that’s Ruzek. I don’t know but I have a feeling we’re going that way.”

Burgess’ situation is even more complicated given that she is a white woman raising a Black girl, and will have certain blind spots when it comes to parenting a child of a different race. Squerciati hopes the issue is something her character won’t ignore, and that she’ll continue to lean on her close friend Atwater (played by LaRoyce Hawkins) — who raised his little sister Vinessa (Documentary Now!’s Bobbi MacKenzie) — for support. Burgess reached out Atwater in Wednesday’s episode to ask his opinion about the potential adoption — a move that seems to have helped inform her decision to foster Michaela.

“I’m really glad that scene with Atwater happened because I feel like without it, you run the danger of it being a white-savior-type of episode. The fact that she acknowledged and talked to him about the racial factor of it, I think, really helps that,” Squerciati explains.

When it comes to parenting, Squerciati thinks Burgess has a lot to consider. “There’s so many things that I’ve been thinking about. I don’t know how to do Black hair and Kevin [Atwater] could teach me how to do it,” she adds. “And of course, there are bigger issues and bigger blind spots that I hope our writers address. But I was just thinking about small things that I wouldn’t know that Atwater would because he had Vinessa that we could talk about.”

What do you think about Burgess’ decision to foster Michaela? How will it impact her relationship with Ruzek? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

The Chi Season 3 Finale Recap: And the New Mayor of Chicago Is… https://briefnews.eu/the-chi-season-3-finale-recap-and-the-new-mayor-of-chicago-is/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chi-season-3-finale-recap-and-the-new-mayor-of-chicago-is/#respond Mon, 24 Aug 2020 06:31:37 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-chi-season-3-finale-recap-and-the-new-mayor-of-chicago-is/

This post contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of The Chi.

Well, in his defense, it’s not like Douda is Chicago’s first corrupt mayor.

Yep, in Sunday’s Season 3 finale of The Chi, Otis “Douda” Perry was elected as the chief executive of the Windy City. He soundly beat Camille Hallaway, probably because she played fair and didn’t do a single thing with the incriminating evidence Jake and Trig hand-delivered to her campaign headquarters in the previous episode. (We understand why she told Roselyn she didn’t want to win that way, but c’mon!)

Douda also misses Jake’s hearing, so the judge awarded custody of the boy to Trig and Imani. Yay, right? But wait: Douda swings by their place at the end of the hour, saying that he skipped the court date on purpose: If he’d been there, he would definitely have won custody. But now, he’ll continue to pay for Jake’s education… as long as Trig runs Douda’s street hustle. Against Imani’s better wishes, Trig agrees to the arrangement.

But a bunch of other things happened in the episode, as well:

* After a raucous bachelorette party (Tiff) and an ill-fated bachelor trip to the massage parlor with Darnell (Emmett), EJ’s parents get married by a justice of the peace. Then they have honeymoon sex on Jada’s couch.

* Speaking of sex, Kevin and Jemma make up and have sex for the first time.

* Kiesha goes to the doctor for an abortion but can’t go through with it. Her decision to keep the baby enrages Kevin.

* Before she makes that decision, though, Kiesha gets some advice from Tiffany. And that’s when we finally find out why Tiff hasn’t been pregnant this season, despite her announcement at the end of Season 2: She and Emmett decided they couldn’t have another baby, and she aborted it at some point off-screen.

* Papa’s father is arrested on money laundering charges, upsetting Papa. When he confronts the pastor about where Camille’s money went, his dad says he used it to help people and help his own family.(Also, Papa and Maisha get each other chains to wear and trade “I love yous,” and it’s so sweet.)

* Everyone says goodbye to Ronnie at his funeral. Kiesha lays roses on his coffin and whispers, “Thank you.”

Now it’s your turn. Use the polls below to grade the finale and the season on the whole, then hit the comments with your thoughts!

Just days after ABC crowned a new Miss Universe, NBC followed suit by minting another (slightly more localized) monarch.

Fifty-one hopeful contestants descended upon Connecticut casino Mohegan Sun on Thursday with the same goal — to snatch the crown and become Miss America 2020.

The two-hour live event was co-hosted by Access duo Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover. This year’s judges’ panel included Lauren Ash (Superstore, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), Karamo Brown (Queer Eye, Dancing With the Stars) and former forever Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland.

By the end of the first hour, the original 51 contestants were narrowed down to the top 15: Tiara Pennington (Alabama), Eileen Kim (California), Monica Thompson (Colorado), Jillian Duffy (Connecticut), Michaela McLean (Florida), Victoria Hill (Georgia), Nicole Holbrook (Hawaii), Annika Wooton (Kansas), Simone Esters (Missouri), Jade Glab (New Jersey), Lauren Molella (New York), Alexandra Badgett (North Carolina), Addison Price (Oklahoma), Chandler Foreman (Texas) and Camille Schrier (Virginia).

Miss America 2020 WinnerAnd here’s how the top five shook out: Connecticut’s Jillian Duffy finished in fifth place, Oklahoma’s Addison Price took fourth and Missouri’s Simone Esters placed third. Lastly, Georgia’s Victoria Hill  was named this year’s runner-up, solidifying Virginia’s Camille Schrier as the new Miss America 2020.

The competition’s final moments welcomed the reigning champion, Nia Franklin (New York), back to the stage to crown her successor. Hit PLAY on the video below to watch the big moment go down:

Strictly 2019: ‘Is it true?’ Kelvin Fletcher leaves Claudia in disbelief with confession https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-is-it-true-kelvin-fletcher-leaves-claudia-in-disbelief-with-confession/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-is-it-true-kelvin-fletcher-leaves-claudia-in-disbelief-with-confession/#respond Mon, 25 Nov 2019 04:42:20 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-is-it-true-kelvin-fletcher-leaves-claudia-in-disbelief-with-confession/

Unfortunatley, it was the end of the line for one unlucky celebrity and this week, it fell on Saffron Barker and her parter AJ Pritchard’s shoulders.

They were eliminated after all four judges chose to save Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden who were also in the dance-off.

Speaking to The Sun following their exit, the couple said they had “begged” BBC bosses to let them skip the Samba, as AJ has been voted off twice in the past after performing the dance.

Alas, it wasn’t meant to be and the audience waved goodbye to the young dancers.

But who will go next week?

With only five celebrities left in the competition, can anyone call who will win?

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday night.

‘Just don’t complain about how awful your life is’ Piers Morgan LOSES IT at Meghan Markle https://briefnews.eu/just-dont-complain-about-how-awful-your-life-is-piers-morgan-loses-it-at-meghan-markle/ https://briefnews.eu/just-dont-complain-about-how-awful-your-life-is-piers-morgan-loses-it-at-meghan-markle/#respond Wed, 13 Nov 2019 21:13:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/just-dont-complain-about-how-awful-your-life-is-piers-morgan-loses-it-at-meghan-markle/

Piers Morgan has made his feelings very clear on Meghan Markle during today’s Good Morning Britain. His discussion came after recent reports about how Prince Harry and his wife would be spending their Christmas.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly “recharging their batteries” as a family with their newborn, Archie.

However, some have criticised the pair for not spending time with the Queen and Prince Philip.

Piers unleashed yet another rant about Meghan, claiming she shouldn’t be complaining about her life.

Discussing the pair’s South Africa documentary in which Meghan admitted she was “struggling”, Piers said: “Can you imagine going in to this and making a documentary but turning it into a ‘woe is me’.

Susanna hit back: “She’s not making it up!”

Piers went on: “She’s turned on the waterworks to make us feel sorry for her.”

His co-star pondered: “Do you not think it’s acceptable to feel sympathy for someone?”

He continued: “I’m not buying the ‘woe is me’ nonsense with those two.

Miss USA 2019: And the Winner Is… https://briefnews.eu/miss-usa-2019-and-the-winner-is/ https://briefnews.eu/miss-usa-2019-and-the-winner-is/#respond Fri, 03 May 2019 11:04:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/miss-usa-2019-and-the-winner-is/ Fifty-one worthy queens vied for a single crown on Thursday, making the 2019 Miss USA pageant a little like Game of Thrones‘ Battle of Winterfell — only with less dragons. That we know of.

Nick and Vanessa Lachey returned to host this year’s festivities, which went down in Reno Tahoe’s Grand Sierra Resort and Casino’s Grand Theatre. (New game: Take a shot every time you see the word “grand”!) Though Nick Lachey’s pageant history is limited to hosting, Vanessa Lachey is actually a former Miss Teen USA (1998).

Judging this year’s crop of queens were businesswoman Nicole Feld (of Feld Entertainment, Inc.); businesswoman Kim Kaupe (of The Superfan Company); Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters (Miss Universe 2017); marketing executive Ukonwa Ojo (Covergirl, Rimmel and Vera Wang); journalist Amy Palmer; Denise Quiñones (Miss Universe 2001); Hillary Schieve, the mayor of Reno; and Patricia Smith (Miss Virginia USA 1994).

This year’s competition also included musical performances from Nick Lachey and T-Pain. And last year’s winner, Nebraska native Sarah Rose Summers, was on hand to pass her crown to the new Miss USA, who will go on to represent the United States in the upcoming Miss Universe 2019 pageant.

Following a two-hour showdown of gowns, gams and game-changing questions, here’s how things turned out for this year’s hopefuls…

Second Runner Up: Triana Browne, Miss Oklahoma
First Runner Up: Alejandra Gonzalez, Miss New Mexico
Miss USA: Cheslie Kryst, North Carolina

Star Wars 9 title reveal: Shocking new revelation from Lucasfilm insider – Is this true? https://briefnews.eu/star-wars-9-title-reveal-shocking-new-revelation-from-lucasfilm-insider-is-this-true/ https://briefnews.eu/star-wars-9-title-reveal-shocking-new-revelation-from-lucasfilm-insider-is-this-true/#respond Fri, 08 Feb 2019 20:45:07 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/star-wars-9-title-reveal-shocking-new-revelation-from-lucasfilm-insider-is-this-true/

There are still ten months to go, but fans are getting impatient. A Star Wars movie has never left it so late to reveal the title. A recent leak started a frenzy with the claim that Episode 9 was called ‘ Balance of the Force.’ The general response was not particularly enthusiastic. So when will it finally drop? One bold fan asked Lucasfilm keeper of the keys Pablo Hidalgo if he knew the title.

Hidalgo has worked for Lucasfilm for over 19 years and is tasked with maintaining consistency and continuity across all the various franchise films, books and shows. If anyone knows anything it should be him.

One fan asked: “Obviously you can’t tell anybody, but do you even know the name of IX? From my understanding, it’s being kept from almost everyone.”

Hidalgo’s didn’t spill the biggest Star Wars secret this side of Rey’s parents, but his answer was still extremely surprising.

Hidalgo said: “If it has a title, I don’t know it.”

Star Wars secrecy is no, well, secret. Everyone from veteran Mark Hamill to newbie Richard E Grant has confirmed the extraordinary control and checks in place. However, it seems extraordinary that not even someone on Hidalgo’s level has a clue.

Meanwhile, irrepressible chatterbox Anthony Daniels (aka irrepressible chatterbox C-3PO), has also been busy on Twitter teasing fans.

Yesterday Star Wars icon Anthony Daniels tweeted: “Everyone- except one – is looking the wrong way … But it’s getting closer… Amazing… Doesn’t seem to be the right shape for a movie title or trailer…  Can’t see an X or anything… Oh… The signal’s faded… I’m sure it’ll return… What can it be… Stay tuned… I will.”

He followed it with the no less cryptic: “I have to rest, before I fall apart… But wait… Wait… I’m receiving a message from… T…R…A…V…………. Oh… signal fading…….  Come back…. the One who got it?”

Nobody has a clue what (or who) the Force he is referring to.

STAR WARS 9 IS OUT ON DECEMBER 19

Miss Universe 2018: The Winner Is… https://briefnews.eu/miss-universe-2018-the-winner-is/ https://briefnews.eu/miss-universe-2018-the-winner-is/#respond Mon, 17 Dec 2018 07:19:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/miss-universe-2018-the-winner-is/ The 67th Miss Universe competition, which is basically the Avengers: Infinity War of the pageant world, was held in Bangkok on Sunday. And just like the Avengers, not everyone was feeling so good by the end of Fox’s three-hour broadcast.

Once again hosted by Steve Harvey — who famously crowned the wrong Miss Universe back in 2015, a mistake he managed to avoid repeating — this year’s pageant represented a record-breaking 94 different countries and territories. In fact, the hosts’s bedazzled jacket was designed with that fact in mind, featuring one jewel for every participant.

Miss Universe 2018 Winner“This is about love and forgiveness,” Harvey said at the top of the broadcast, which was delayed by a football game on the east coast. “What this world needs is more love and forgiveness. That’s what this show is about tonight.”

Supermodel Ashley Graham, RuPaul’s Drag Race mainstay Carson Kressley and runway coach Lu Sierra provided running commentary throughout the competition, which featured a special performance from Ne-Yo, star of NBC’s wildly underrated The Wiz Live!

The 94 contestants were narrowed down to 20 shortly into the broadcast, with the judges selecting five women from Europe, the Americas and Africa/Asia-Pacific, respectively; the final five were “wild cards” from any continental groupings. Based on their opening statements, half of that group went on to compete in the swimsuit and evening gown rounds, before once again being halved.

This year’s Top 5, which proceeded to the Q&A portion of the event, included Catriona Gray (Miss Philippines), Kiara Ortega (Miss Puerto Rico), Tamaryn Green (Miss South Africa), Sthefany Gutierrez (Miss Venezuela) and H’Hen Nie (Miss Vietnam). Here’s how the final results shook out:

Fourth/Fifth Place: H’Hen Nie (Miss Vietnam) and Kiara Ortega (Miss Puerto Rico)
Third Place: Sthefany Gutierrez (Miss Venezuela)
Second Place: Tamaryn Green (Miss South Africa)

That makes Catriona Gray (Miss Philippines) the new Miss Universe. Your thoughts (if any) on her victory? Drop ’em in a comment below.

Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular Recap: RuPaul's First Christmas Queen Is… https://briefnews.eu/drag-race-holi-slay-spectacular-recap-rupauls-first-christmas-queen-is/ https://briefnews.eu/drag-race-holi-slay-spectacular-recap-rupauls-first-christmas-queen-is/#respond Sat, 08 Dec 2018 02:45:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/drag-race-holi-slay-spectacular-recap-rupauls-first-christmas-queen-is/ Twas three weeks before Christmas and all ‘cross the runway, eight queens reunited — and they didn’t come to play. Eureka, Jasmine Masters, Kim Chi, Latrice Royale, Mayhem Miller, Shangela, Sonique and Trixie Mattel faced off during Friday’s inaugural Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular for the title of RuPaul’s first-ever Christmas Queen.

Following a musical introduction courtesy of Mama Ru (because why not?), the fan-favorite queens battled their way through a series of holiday challenges, ranging from a spirited prance-off to an ’80s-inspired group number choreographed by, who else, Todrick Hall.

And while Ru did her best to keep things merry and bright, there was still plenty of shade, especially between All Stars 3 rivals Trixie and Shangela. From the moment Trixie entered the workroom — which she said looked like Shangela decorated it with her own two hands — she was cracking jokes about her controversial win. To be fair, though, Trixia wasn’t the only one trashing the Star is Born actress; upon her arrival, Mayhem shouted, “Damn, who let Shangela back again?!”

RuPaul's Drag Race RecapThen came the runway: “Non-Denominational Christmas Eleganza!” Stand-out looks included Eureka’s homage to 1996 Holiday Barbie (aka “the Barbie that ate all the other Barbies in the factory”); Trixie’s snow angel, complete with a scepter “to remind people” she’s already royalty; Mayhem’s “dark, mysterious, hairy, horned and hooved” take on sexy Krampus; and Shangela’s considerable upgrade of her “Frostula” character.

After deliberating with Michelle Visage, Todrick and Ross Mathews — not to be confused with the workroom’s elf, who merely looks like Ross Mathews — RuPaul forced the queens to lip sync “for Christmas!” in groups of two: Mayhem vs. Sonique, Shangela vs. Jasmine, Trixie vs. Eureka and Latrice vs. Kim.

In the end, Ru declared that Drag Race‘s first Christmas Queen is… everyone?! That’s right. Everybody won. We can all go home now. Which queen do you think should have won? Cast your vote below, then drop a comment with your thoughts on the holiday special.
