]]>Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be high on the agenda at Thursday’s meeting of Premier League shareholders and could lead to a vote on whether to introduce it next season.
]]>
But as she began her interview with Judy, the BBC Breakfast reporter found herself apologising over her introduction.
Starting her report, Sally said: “We’re in Wimbledon this morning where of course if you’ve seen our headlines you’ll see that we’re leading our story with Andy Murray will not be playing any part in this Wimbledon.
“I’m going to get the camera to just move slightly to my right.”
Judy could be seen as Sally exclaimed: “Andy’s mum.”
However, the sports reporter quickly apologised for introducing Judy as the sportsman’s mother.
“I bet you can’t stand being introduced like that,” Sally noted.
“I’m so sorry. Morning to you Judy Murray.”
Judy smiled as she replied: “Good morning Sally.”
“You’ve got several other hats on here and we will get to Andy in just a second but you’re here to talk about how important the next two weeks are for women’s sport,” Sally commented.
Judy discussed the importance of women in sport before addressing her son’s decision to pull out of the competition.
“What was it that made him decide that this was too much?” probed Sally.
Judy responded: “I think when he decided to test himself out in a match was at Queens, where he had three sets and then he played at Eastbourne and had a couple of matches at Eastbourne.
“Playing best of three sets is very different to playing best of five sets and of course, you wouldn’t want to put yourself in a position where you couldn’t complete the match or you won your first match but weren’t able to complete your second match.”
Sally went on to ask what advice Judy had given her son.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star dished: “Feet up and play with the kids and watch the football.”
“Who is he supporting?” Sally asked.
Judy answered: “I’m not sure who he is supporting
“We do have a family sweep stake and I’ve drawn Japan.”

But we know that diesel sedans are a pretty slim part of the market, so we decided to check out the other side of Jaguar’s coin. For the next six months, we’ll be driving a 2018 Jaguar F-Pace. In today’s SUV and crossover obsessed world, the F-Pace is already the brand’s best seller, and if history and the Porsche Cayenne is any indication, it’ll hopefully help finance the sort of lust-worthy but low-volume cars we all love so much. In the meantime, we’ll be finding out what all those new Jag owners are getting themselves into.
What we got
Our particular F-Pace is very close to fully loaded. Outside, it’s coated in deep, vibrant Caesium Blue, a hue that was originally intended only for the F-Pace First Edition but popular demand made it more widely available. It’s accented with the “Black Package,” a $ 360 option, which swaps out shiny chrome trim on the grille, window surround and fender vents for gloss black pieces. We also added gloss black 20-inch wheels to match, a $ 1,020 option. For $ 410, we added a fifth one of those wheels in the trunk, too, since we opted for a full-size spare.
Our F-Pace’s sporty appearance is complemented by an athletic engine. The F-Pace S (starting price $ 60,770) comes with the most powerful engine currently available, a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 good for 380 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Like all F-Pace models, all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission are standard. Also, because this is the S model, our F-Pace has the ability to store a custom configuration for the steering and suspension.
Most of the options on our F-Pace are convenience items such as the $ 1,840 “Comfort and Convenience Package” that adds heated and cooled front seats, heated and power-reclining rear seats, remote levers for folding those seats, and a powered, hands-free-opening hatch. The $ 2,350 “Luxury Interior Package” adds configurable ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, a lockable and cooled glovebox, an air quality sensor, a pair of 12V power sockets in the rear, illuminated door sill plates, a suedecloth headliner and fancier floor mats. The “Driver Assistance Package” and “Technology Package” each cost $ 3,250 and provided us with Jaguar’s top-of-the-line Touch Pro infotainment system, Wi-Fi, a Meridian sound system, navigation, parking sensors, 360-degree cameras, and adaptive cruise control. Finally, we also chose the heated windshield and washer jets ($ 385), and the “Activity Key” wristband ($ 410) we tried out at last year’s Tech of the Year awards. Altogether, our options brought the price tag to $ 74,640.
What we skipped
As we mentioned, this F-Pace has nearly every option. The only ones we left out were the tow hitch, wheel locks, some cargo management trinkets and the head-up display. We’re not planning on towing anything during the F-Pace’s stay, we hope no one’s going to jack our wheels (knock on wood), and we don’t expect to have much issue keeping our cargo in place. The head-up display would be nice, but Jaguar’s isn’t the most pleasant to look at, so we’re not missing out on too much.
Why we got it
There are few reasons for this. First of course is that it’s Jaguar’s best-selling vehicle and it’s important to see how it will perform over an extended period of time. Plus, since it’s based on the same platform as the XE, we’re curious to see how it compares to the little Jaguar sedan. That XE diesel is also the impetus behind choosing the F-Pace S with the supercharged V6. We’ve spent six months with Jaguar’s most fuel efficient and least powerful engine, so we want to see how a more potent powerplant fares.
Questions
We’ve got the car for a while, so we’ll have plenty of time to answer any questions you have. Feel free to ask in the comments.

Halt and Catch Fire‘s latest hire is well versed in troubleshooting a presidential campaign, but maintaining a team of web surfers is a whole different ballgame.
Anna Chlumsky, a five-time Emmy nominee for her role as Amy Brookheimer on HBO’s Veep, kicks off a five-episode arc on the AMC tech drama, beginning with Saturday’s “Tonya and Nancy.” She plays Dr. Katie Herman, Comet’s chief ontologist who is tasked with overseeing a team of “obsessives” helping Joe, Gordon and Haley index the World Wide Web. She is also a potential love interest for Gordon.
The episode implies that Cameron — who, as suspected, isn’t cut out for life in an airstream — helps Bosworth out with Rover after he confesses to her his financial woes. She singlehandedly saves Comet’s competitor by fixing a flawed algorithm, and allows Boz to credit one of the team’s less skilled coders. Donna, of course, seems to sense that something’s up, while Cameron ends the episode with a terrified look in her eyes. It’s only as Joe vents about Rover’s newfound success that she appears to recognize that she just betrayed her boyfriend, as well as Gordon and Haley.
Cameron is also pretty much the only character who isn’t obsessing over the 1994 Winter Olympics. Gordon, Katie and the rest of the Comet team gather at Joe’s to watch Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan compete in the figure-skating competition. Donna, Haley and Joanie do the same.
Below, Chlumsky discusses Katie’s memorable introduction, her chemistry with Gordon, as well as her own memories of geeking out over the ’94 Winter Games.
TVLINE | Be honest: Before reading that first script, did you have any idea what being a “chief ontologist” entailed? Because I sure didn’t before this episode explained it to me.
Nope! Definitely not. [Laughs] I had to Google it.
TVLINE | Halt and Catch Fire and Veep are such different shows. What drew you to this role?
I always want to do things between seasons of Veep that are a bit different. This offer came my way, [and] they sent me the scripts for the first two episodes that Katie is in. I could see right away how good these writers were, [but] I couldn’t really see what Katie was going to turn into without having a deeper talk with [creators Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers]. After speaking to them, I felt like this would be a worthy [project]. It’s such a good show and the cast is so amazing.
TVLINE | Katie makes quite the impression with that long-winded explanation of how she organized her brother’s CD collection. Was that first scene as intimidating on the page as one might suspect?
I’ve done six-page monologues, so I know I’m capable, but it doesn’t make it any less intimidating, especially when you’re guesting on a show that you’re in love with. The gift of that scene is that you can kind of disappear into her head for a bit. She does get off on organizing and finding order in chaos, and I can identify with that. I’ve got my own ridiculous system for organizing my books. Everyone has there funny little behaviors, and she’s managed to make a job out of it, so she gets to actually be proud of it and talk about it.
TVLINE | There’s an obvious spark between Katie and Gordon during the initial job interview, then Katie goes and wipes the whipped cream off of Gordon’s ear back at Joe’s apartment. What exactly is the relationship there, and how will we see it evolve?
I mean, certainly everything you see is on purpose and not accidental. They’ll continue to blossom, and it’s a real connection. That was one of the things I spoke to the [Cantwell and Rogers] about when we had that phone call. This can’t just be some chick who comes in for the heck of it. This needs to be real, and it needs to be earned, so these first episodes are about earning that thing. It came very naturally as we did it, and [Scoot McNairy] is a great scene partner.
TVLINE | We don’t see Katie interact much with Joe or Haley in this first episode. What are those dynamics like moving forward?
I think she has a very good, respectful working relationship with Joe. She understands that dynamic pretty quickly because she’s good at reading people. She’s open to the way that people behave and she is fascinated by it. She’s a no-judgment zone, which is really great for all of the characters, but especially for a teenage girl like Haley. One of my favorite things about shooting this was how Katie and Haley really connect in their own way, independent of Gordon and independent of work. We glom on these influences when we’re teenagers, and Katie winds up being a really lovely part of Haley’s life.
TVLINE | Thinking back to 1994, were you as obsessed with that Harding/Kerrigan rivalry as Katie, Gordon and the rest of the Comet team?
Oh, completely! I’m a really big figure-skating fan. I remember every second of that. More so, I remember [Ukrainian gold medalist] Oksana Baiul. When she came out, she was wearing that fabulous swan headpiece, and her layback spin was the most flexible, contortionist freaking thing I’ve ever seen. I remember my mother and I going, “Oh, forgot this Tonya and Nancy thing. Look at this one!” My eighth grade teacher the next day was so mad about Baiul winning and I was like, “Are you kidding me? She was phenomenal!” [Laughs]

Operating conditions across India’s services sector deteriorated sharply last month following the implementation of the nation’s first goods and services tax (GST) on July 1.
The Nikkei-IHS Markit India Services Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI) plunged from 53.1 to 45.9, leaving it at the lowest level since September 2013.
PMIs measure changes in activity levels across a particular sector from one month to the next. Anything above 50 signals that activity levels are improving while a reading below suggests they’re deteriorating. The distance away from 50 indicates how quickly activity levels are expanding or contracting.
A movement from positive territory to below 50 this sharp is highly unusual in PMI data.
The reading of 45.9 indicates that not only did activity levels across India’s services sector deteriorate, they did so at the fastest pace in nearly four years.
The result mirrored that in the separate Nikkei-IHS Markit India manufacturing PMI which fell to 47.9, down from 50.9 in June.
Business Insider Australia
“Output and new work declined for the first time since January, with rates of reduction the quickest since September 2013. This had an adverse effect on the labour market, with employment contracting over the month,” said IHS Markit.
“The launch of the GST was mentioned by services firms as having caused a contraction in new work, leading to lower activity. The drop in new business inflows echoed the trend for output, being the first since January and the most pronounced in nearly four years.”
Nasty.
Despite the ugly July report card, it’s clear that firms aren’t overly concerned that the weakness will last with confidence levels looking 12 months ahead rising to the highest level since August 2016.

Longtime Apple analyst Gene Munster said the launch of Tesla’s Model 3 will be as big as the introduction of the iPhone.
Tesla will hand off its first mass-market sedan, the Model 3, at a party on Friday night. The event will mark the start of production, which Tesla aims to ramp up to 20,000 vehicles per month in December.
Munster, who has for decades covered tech behemoths like Apple, Google, and Amazon, is bullish on Tesla and has argued that the electric-car maker resembles Apple in its early days.
“Over the next 10 years, the Model 3’s value, in combination with its technology, has the potential to change the world and accelerate the adoption of electric and autonomous vehicles,” Munster wrote in a note on July 6. “We believe we will eventually look back at the launch of the Model 3 and compare it to the iPhone, which proved to be the catalyst for the shift to mobile computing.”
The Model 3 starts at $ 35,000 and boasts a 215-mile range, placing it in direct competition with the Chevy Bolt.
Munster was a senior analyst for Piper Jaffray for 21 years until he left in December to launch Loup Ventures, an early-stage venture-capital fund focused on augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
Loup Ventures’ cost analysis of the Model 3 found that it was more affordable than the Toyota Camry, the fourth-most-popular vehicle in the US, without factoring in tax breaks.
“Consensus thinking is the Model 3 expanded Tesla’s addressable market from about 1 million cars a year to 4 million cars a year,” he wrote. “However, based on our cost of ownership work, we believe the Model 3 expands Tesla’s addressable market to about 11m vehicles per year in North America alone.”
Tesla
The Camry is in a different segment than the Model 3, but Munster said the electric sedan was ultimately cheaper when factoring in the price of fuel, insurance, maintenance, repairs, and technology.
That last point is key to Munster’s argument.
Tesla is collecting data from the tens of thousands of its vehicles already on the road with the aim of advancing its AI to achieve its goal of a Tesla driving itself from Los Angeles to New York by the end of the year.
The automaker also plans to launch the Tesla Network, which would allow an owner to temporarily add their car to a self-driving fleet and make money off the vehicle when it’s not in use.
It will most likely be several years before Tesla’s self-driving tech and fleet come to fruition. But the lower cost of the Model 3 combined with the value of Tesla’s future tech releases could catapult it to the level of the iPhone, Munster said.
It’s worth noting, however, that the Model 3 will also cost more than $ 40,000 when factoring in the price of Tesla’s Autopilot software.
For Tesla to really tap into the mass market, it would need to double its production capacity this year and again in 2018. The electric-car maker has struggled with production, and it reported light delivery numbers for the second quarter.
“Hardware does not scale as easy as software, but it can scale,” Munster said. “Looking back at the iPhone in 2007, it was a stretch to envision the company producing 50m phones a year, but in 2015, the company sold 232m units.”

BI Intelligence
Cloud computing — on-demand, internet-based computing services — has been successfully applied to many computing functions in recent years.
From consumer-facing, web-based productivity apps like Google Docs to enterprise database management suites, the tools businesses rely on are increasingly moving to the cloud.
But developing a cloud strategy is no easy task. Public cloud solutions will likely come to dominate the market over the next decade, but business constraints, such as security concerns and the limitations of existing infrastructure, make it difficult for companies to fully adopt the public cloud right now.
That means that hybrid clouds, in which multiple cloud implementations (including public and private) are connected, will remain popular for the time being, at least until these constraints are addressed. The tech giants that dominate the IaaS market — Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, and Google — are constantly expanding their offerings to address current business constraints as they compete for market share.
A new report from BI Intelligence evaluates the current business considerations for the various cloud solutions and provides an outlook on the state of the market.
Here are some of the key takeaways from the report:
