Charles Davis/Insider
A Republican proposal to impose a national ban on abortion after 15 weeks is putting some GOP candidates in a difficult spot, forcing candidates such as Dr. Mehmet Oz to profess a commitment to ending a procedure he likened to "murder" while not alienating moderates who support the right to choose.
On Tuesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, introduced a bill that would prohibit doctors from terminating a pregnancy after 15 weeks, with no exception for fetal abnormalities that are typically spotted later on. The legislation has threatened to upend what had been the GOP line on abortion since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade: that the matter is one for the states to decide, not the federal government.
In Pennsylvania, the Oz campaign insisted that the TV personality turned Republican nominee for US Senate would not want to interfere with state laws on whether a person can terminate a pregnancy.
In a statement, Oz spokesperson Brittany Yanick told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the candidate "is pro-life with three exceptions: life of the mother, rape, and incest."
The statement did not directly address the Graham proposal. But, Yanick said, "as a senator, he'd want to make sure the federal government is not involved in interfering with the state's decisions on the topic."
The statement came a day after Oz said he would support federal legislation protecting same-sex marriage, a stance that angered some conservatives who have never warmed to the physician, despite his being endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Yanick did not immediately respond to an Insider request for comment on how Oz would vote should he be elected this fall and the Graham bill be brought to the Senate floor by a Republican majority.
Oz's Democratic rival, Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, wasted no time responding to the comment. Fetterman held a rally on Sunday trumpeting his support for abortion rights.
"A federal abortion ban would sure seem to interfere with a state's decision on the topic of abortion," Fetterman said in a statement. "Dr. Oz and his team need to stop the spin and stop the bullshit. This is a bill that he would actually have to vote on. Oz needs to tell us — yes or no, would you support this bill?"
If he were in the Senate, Fetterman added, he would be "a HELL NO."

This post contains spoilers for episode 3 of “She-Hulk: Attorney at law.”
“She-Hulk: Attorney At Law” isn’t a show that lacks in self-awareness, that’s for sure. After the premiere episode charted Jennifer Walters’ (Tatiana Maslany) origin story alongside a healthy dose of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk, the second episode (re)introduced Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky/Abomination, a holdover from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” who many fans wouldn’t have expected to see again before his appearance in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Now, today’s episode gifted us with yet another cameo by Wong (Benedict Wong), the Sorcerer Supreme who has now made a habit of popping up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when you’d least expect him to. All this was wryly acknowledged early in the third episode, with She-Hulk once again breaking the fourth wall to remind viewers of exactly whose show this is.
But this series isn’t solely about bringing back fan-favorites — Jen still has her own distinct journey to follow and her own unique antagonists to face. We met one of them in the form of Jameela Jamil’s Titania and now, in the waning moments of episode three, we’ve now got a whole new group of villains to contend with.
While Jen is walking home after a long day at the office, having successfully helped out both Blonsky and her profoundly irritating former co-worker Dennis Bukowski (Drew Matthews), she suddenly comes under attack by what seems like a band of anonymous creeps. Although She-Hulk dispatches them with ease, the fact that they brandish mystical construction tools apparently stolen from New Asgard and then subsequently talk about a mysterious “boss” who recruited them to try and inject She-Hulk (or extract from her?) with some sort of device indicates something more nefarious at work.
Meet the Wrecking Crew, a group of no-gooders from the comics making their MCU debut.

Like many other characters in the Marvel Comics source material, the history of the formidable Wrecking Crew is full of twists and turns and unexpected connections. For one thing, the Wrecking Crew are actually typically considered to be villains of Thor, which neatly explains their New Asgard connection in “She-Hulk.” Created by Len Wein and Sal Buscema, the criminal team-up consists of Dr. Eliot Franklin/Thunderball, Henry Camp/Bulldozer, Brian Calusky/Piledriver, and their ringleader Dirk Garthwaite/Wrecker. In issue #17 of the 1974 “Defenders” comic book run, the team was imbued with their mystical powers when Garthwaite and the other three took up an enchanted crowbar (comics, baby!) in the middle of a thunderstorm, were struck by lightning, and immediately formed their fancy new supervillain group. As one does.
Their first appearance saw Bruce Banner himself eventually called in to help clean up the Wrecking Crew’s mess, further strengthening the Hulk connections in their live-action debut in the Disney+ series. Although dead-set on vanquishing Thor, the crew have also had run-ins with various other superheroes such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Captain America, and the Runaways. Far from just a mere inconvenience to the good guys, however, the Wrecking Crew have had a penchant for joining forces with the likes of Helmut Zemo’s Masters of Evil organization and Mr. Sinister, and they even a memorable run-in with the god of mischief Loki. Armed with Wrecker’s powerful crowbar and Thunderball’s ball and chain, the group has posed a significant threat that sees them repeatedly fighting heroes, ending up in prison, and breaking out all over again to begin the cycle anew.
Thus far, the “She-Hulk” end credits only identify that Wrecker is portrayed by actor Nick Gomez and Thunderball by Justin Eaton. Expect to see much more of them in the future.

After their failed assault on Jen Walters in “She-Hulk,” the Wrecking Crew regroup in their getaway van to lick their wounds. At this point, the apparent leader of the team asks Thunderball, “Did you get it?” Without elaborating further, the henchman begrudgingly admits that his attempt to stab Jen with some sort of needle-like device failed because, “Once she turned into She-Hulk, I couldn’t pierce that nasty green skin.” Alluding to a “boss” who’s not going to respond well to this defeat, the gang takes off and the episode ends with one last lingering shot of She-Hulk.
Naturally, fans immediately began to speculate about the nature of that person behind the curtain who may be pulling the strings. As if the predominantly negative media attention and aggravating clients at work weren’t enough, it certainly appears that Jen will soon find herself dealing with an extremely motivated and undoubtedly troublesome new foe — one who might be after the gamma-radiation secrets locked within her blood.
So who might that “boss” be? Well, one obvious and immediate answer could bring back yet another “The Incredible Hulk” character. Although Kevin Feige has made greater strides over the years to mesh the once-estranged film back into the MCU proper, even the biggest fans likely gave up hope on ever seeing Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns ever again — even after his attempts to help Bruce and especially his concluding moments in the film, which saw him transforming into the villainous Leader. But could “She-Hulk” finally bring the family back together again, paying off one of the great unresolved plot threads in the MCU and bringing yet another thoroughly entertaining actor into the fold?
New episodes of “She-Hulk” air on Disney+ every Thursday.

“In America so one of the later books. Claire feels very drawn to him and says she felt safe and complete in his presence, something like that.
“When I read it I wondered if this man was her father.”
And other fans were convinced by the notion, as one replied: “I remember the part you mean and it did catch my attention that Claire was drawn to him.
“He was also described as having whisky coloured eyes. I’d don’t know that it went anywhere though and I think they found the man dead later. I could be mistaken about that.”

Republican Senator Ted Cruz introduced a constitutional amendment Friday that would restrict Senators to two six-year terms. If it’s passed, it would limit Cruz’s Senate career to its current term.
The amendment would also limit members of the House of Representatives to three two-year terms. It’s co-sponsored by Republican Senators Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, and David Purdue.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

On Wednesday, Senators Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.) introduced a Senate bill to impose a carbon tax on major industrial carbon emitters throughout the US. The Senate bill is a version of a bipartisan House bill that was introduced in late November. Although most analysis agrees that the bills don’t stand a chance of becoming law, they are important as concrete examples of avenues that US lawmakers are taking to explore bipartisan climate-change policy.
Traditionally, Republicans have resisted addressing climate change in any way whatsoever, with current Republican President Donald Trump baselessly calling climate science into question and hiring agency secretaries, advisors, and administrators who repeat similar empty claims. But some Republicans in the House and the Senate have pushed back on this, especially in Florida where sea-level rise and increasingly violent hurricanes threaten the economy more directly than in other parts of the US.
The carbon-tax idea was re-introduced this year by Florida’s Republican Representative Carlos Curbelo. (Curbelo lost his seat to a Democrat in the midterm election this year.) The idea of a carbon tax is attractive to many Republicans because it discourages carbon emissions via a market mechanism and protects big companies like Exxon from other kinds of government intervention. A carbon tax is a predictable, monetary lever with uniform increases over several decades; in other words, it’s easy for companies to plan for in their balance sheets.

Egypt hotel Steigenberger Aqua Magic in Hurghada is currently being investigated after British couple John and Susan Cooper died during their stay.
Thomas Cook has since removed 301 of the guests from the hotel while the cause of death is investigated, with a local governor confirming a “strange odour” in the room where the couple were found.
The country is considering bringing in new rules for tourists heading to the country in light of the incident.
Travellers could soon be forced to purchase travel insurance before being allowed into the country.
The compulsory move, according to the International Travel & Health Insurance Journal, could be introduced as incidents and personal accidents occur.
The insurance will need to cover accidents and medical expenses in light of a problem.
Earlier this year, a tourist from South Africa was killed in a hot air balloon crash.
Hot air balloons and camel rides are known for being some of the riskier activities many holidaymakers book for their trips.
Many countries such as Cuba, Russia and the Netherlands also have mandatory travel insurance rules to enter the country.
A study by the Financial Regularity Authority in Egypt will investigate incidents that occur in the country.
This could lead to an international insurer for travellers to use when booking their travel insurance.
Some UK insurance providers class Egypt as Europe, despite it being part of Africa.
Therefore Britons should always check before buying insurance if they are already covered.
However more than 300,000 Britons head to the country with most holidays without incident.
It isn’t the only country in discussions for compulsory travel insurance; Thailand is also debating the need for mandatory buying of protection before entering the country.

On Tuesday, NFL owners voted to clarify one of the league’s most confusing rules, while also introducing a new rule that could cause some confusion.
As expected, the league changed its baffling catch rules, allowing movement of the ball in the receiver’s hands, ending the need to control the ball to the ground, and making it more difficult for officials to overturn catches.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

When the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed lands open next year at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the setting will be the planet Batuu – a heretofore unseen area in Star Wars lore that’s located on the Outer Rim in a galaxy far, far away. But now Lucasfilm has revealed that the planet will first appear in a new book before guests get to explore the land up close and personal in the “real” world.
Lucasfilm (via StarWarsUnderground) has unveiled a new excerpt of a forthcoming book called Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances, a novel that sees Darth Vader joining forces with Grand Admiral Thrawn and taking on a secret mission. It turns out that the two of them will be visiting Batuu, and it appears that they both have some history there.
In the book, Emperor Palpatine assigns Vader and Thrawn to deal with a disturbance in the Force located on the edge of the galaxy. Here’s a quick excerpt, but you can read a larger one here:
“You surprise me, Admiral Thrawn,” Palpatine said. “I would have expected a certain eagerness to journey within sight of your home.”
Thrawn’s glowing red eyes narrowed slightly, and Palpatine felt his sudden caution. “Excuse me, Your Majesty?”
“The disturbance is located at the edge of your Unknown Regions,” the Emperor said. “It appears to be centered on a planet named Batuu.” Again, he sensed a reaction to the name. This time, the reaction came from both of them. “I believe you have heard of it?”
Thrawn’s eyes were hooded, the expression on that blue-skinned face swirling with memories. “Yes,” he murmured. “I have indeed heard of it.”
As, of course, had Vader. It was the place where he and Thrawn had long ago interfered, albeit unwittingly, with one of Palpatine’s plans.
But again, Vader remained silent.
“Very well, then,” Palpatine said. “You, Admiral, will command.” He looked at Vader. “You, Lord Vader, will deal with the disturbance.”
“Yes, Your Highness,” Thrawn said.
“Yes, my master,” Vader said.
Palpatine leaned back into the depths of his throne. “Then go.”
The two servants turned and walked toward the door between the double line of red-cloaked Imperial Guards silently lining their path. Palpatine watched them go: the Chiss in his white Grand Admiral’s uniform, the Sith garbed in black, his long cloak swirling behind him.
The solution to this particular puzzle would indeed require both of them. But more importantly, it would address Palpatine’s lingering questions.
He smiled thinly. Time for Thrawn to face his future.
Time for Vader to face his past.
Star Wars: Thrawn Alliances arrives on shelves on July 24, 2018, so we’ll have to wait until then to get a better idea of the extent of Batuu’s involvement in this story.

Here’s how StarWars.com describes Batuu:
A remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge, Batuu was once a busy crossroads in the days prior to lightspeed. With the rise of hyperspace travel, however, the world — notable for the lush trees and mountain spikes that decorate its surface — was left behind, its prominence lost to planets on more popular trade routes. Today, Batuu is home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, and a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders, and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. Significantly, it has also become a safe haven for those looking to avoid the attention of the First Order.
We’ve yet to get a good look at the new planet outside of concept art, D23 models, and a quick glimpse during Star Tours, so this new novel will presumably give us our most detailed description yet.
All of the attractions and entertainment at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be vetted by the Lucasfilm Story Group and will fit in with the franchise’s storytelling. But when guests visit, they’ll be entering during the era of the sequel trilogy, when The First Order reigns supreme and visitors “might feel the wrath of Kylo Ren.” But we know Batuu has been around for thousands and thousands of years, so it’ll be fascinating to see if any information revealed in Thrawn Alliances makes its way into the physical version of the park when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in 2019.
