  • A job interview scheme is on the rise where candidates are hiring proxies to sit in for them.
  • Reasons for proxies range from being nervous or under-qualified, to criminals trying to steal data.
  • Some "professional" proxies are charging up to $ 150 an hour to do job interviews.

Some job candidates are hiring proxies to sit in job interviews for them — and even paying up to $ 150 an hour for one.

In a recent Insider investigation into the "bait-and-switch" job interview that's becoming increasingly trendy, one "professional" job interview proxy, who uses a website to book clients and keeps a Google Driver folder of past video interviews, said he charges clients $ 150 an hour.

The proxy was approached by Aamil Karimi, who works at cybersecurity firm Optiv as a principal intelligence analyst. Karimi, who posed as a job seeker to talk to the proxy, told Insider's Rob Price that the "bait-and-switch" trend has been on the rise because of more work-from-home jobs and overseas hiring.

The "bait-and-switch" interview works like this: a job candidate hires someone else to pretend to be them in a job interview in hopes they will secure the job. When the job starts, the person who hired the proxy is the one to show up for work.

In his investigation into the trend, Price examined the many reasons why someone would want to hire a stand-in for their job interview. Maybe the person is "awkward or nervous," or isn't completely fluent in a language to perform well. Most of the time, Price wrote, the candidate is straight up under-qualified or unqualified for the job they want.

Most fields where the trend is happening are non-managerial and non-creative, according to the investigation. And in the IT field, where a lot of the proxies are getting candidates jobs, those fake hires are gaining access to important information that can damage a company's reputation or clients.

With an increasing amount of job interviews happening over the phone or video chat due to remote work environments, the "bait-and-switch" trend is getting easier, experts told Price.

Oprah Winfrey is back on TV to help tackle the coronavirus crisis: The beloved talk show host just dropped a surprise special about the pandemic on Apple TV+, interviewing actor Idris Elba about testing positive for the virus.

The special, part of a series titled Oprah Talks COVID-19, is available to stream now, and is free to non-subscribers as well, Winfrey announced via Twitter on Saturday night. In it, she video-chats with Elba and his wife Sabrina Dhwore, who are quarantined together after Elba was diagnosed with coronavirus.   • Saudi Arabia’s human rights commission is investigating the alleged torture of women’s rights activists including accusations of electrocution and waterboarding, the Wall Street Journal reported.
  • Citing government officials and other people familiar with the activists’ situation, the US publication said Saud al-Qahtani, a close adviser to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), had overseen “some aspects of the torture”, threatening one of the activists with rape and death.
  • Members of the commission began questioning some of the detainees over the past month in Jeddah’s Dabhan prison, including 29-year-old activist Loujain al-Hathloul.

      • An Executive Producer is the top executive of the operations, whereas the producer is the manager of the operations.
      • The executive producer prepares the budget and acquires the investors, while the producer makes sure how the budget is properly utilized.
      • The producer hires the people with the right talents and skills for the movie where the producer himself is hired by the Executive Producer.  For the most part, the executive producer has very little to do with the hiring process, aside from hiring the producer.
      • The producer is on set for the entire production (although some films have multiple producers, technical producers and a creative producers), the executive producer is not on set all the time but is used in more of an advisory capacity, overseeing the scripts and marketing.
      • A producer is always eligible for awards in the industry, on the other hand, the Executive producer is not eligible for awards.
      • Sometimes an executive producer is more of a credit than a job.
  • Damon P. from St. Louis, MO writes in “I was wondering, since many of the team reads books that are movies or will eventually be movies, if they believe that breaking up a film into two parts (think Deathly Hallows, or Mockingjay) to make a book more complete in film format is a good thing.  So many times we hear “The book is better” why is that? Is that because the movies are limited by time, to incorporate additional plots points or anything like that. Would it be better to break a movie into two (or three) parts in order to give the source material it’s due?”

  • In a September 5th interview with Reid Hoffman on the Masters of Scale podcast, Instagram cofounder and then CEO Kevin Systrom spoke about his vision for the company — and it might have hinted at the reasons behind his recent departure.
  • Facebook’s recent handling of Instagram is rumored to have been a headache for Systrom and fellow Instagram cofounder Mike Krieger. In a few interviews before his announcement, Systrom discussed how the initial relationship with Facebook was mutually beneficial, and crucial for Instagram’s growth. 
  • The pair didn’t provide a reason for quitting, however, and have yet to give an interview since the announcement.

On Monday, Instagram cofounders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger made the unexpected announcement that they would be leaving the company in the the coming weeks.

They didn’t provide a reason for quitting, but in the last interviews he gave before announcing his departure, Systrom may have hinted at why he and Krieger decided to leave the company.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have been together for eight years.

The couple announced their engagement in January, shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed they would get married.

Both Eugenie and Harry are grandchildren of the Queen, and so will have lavish royal weddings.

But what can the body language of both couples in their engagement interviews tell us about their romances?

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank

Despite being the youngest royal couple to become engaged recently, this pair are most traditional.

Judi said: “Eugenie & Jack presented as the most traditionally royal couple of the three, as opposed to the ‘sofa chemistry’ body language appearances of both Andrew & Fergie and Harry and Meghan.”

However, the pair are in the “rather bashful early stages of love.”

Judi said: “Jack in particular wore kind of the rounded and raised cheeks that signal genuine happiness and at times his cheeks even turned pink to show shyness too.

“Eugenie’s rather husky, sexy voice and her more assured body language suggests she will be the more powerful partner although she used several lowering signals to make her fiancé feel more dominant.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Judi claimed Meghan and Harry in comparison are “more A list Hollywood.”

Their sitting position makes their interview far less formal that Eugenie’s and Jack’s.

Judi said: “Being seated always suggests more leisurely and revealing discussion in a chat show format and we got just that from Harry and Meghan whose signals of sophisticated sexuality teamed with Meghan’s confidence and eloquence pitched them as more A list Hollywood than reserved royals.

“Meghan took over the questions with ease while Harry looked besotted and her body language responses to her husband-to-be ranged from devastatingly flirtatious to quasi-maternal, with some glances and strokes of reassurance and encouragement for Harry.

“Harry and Meghan’s mirroring was less intense though as they knew one another for less time than Eugenie and Jack’s seven year stint as a couple in love.”

Princess Eugenie’s wedding will cost the tax payer a certain sum, but do you know how much? 

The wedding was initially reported to be low-key, with no obligations to invite certain guests and no carriage ride or big procession.

However, it is slowly getting more lavish, with it now set to cost the taxpayer around £2 million.

Meghan Markle was recently snubbed at an American TV awards show. 

Meghan was nominated for the Choice Style Icon award.

Shall we dance?

How can London resist such an invitation, especially when it being made by two huge stars.

The celebrated, Tony award-winning adaptation waltzes into the West End with Oscar-nominated Ken Watanabe as the grumpy Siamese monarch and Kelli-O’Hara as the feisty British governess, Anna Leonowens.

O’Hara actually won a Tony, after six previous nominations, in 2015 for this celebrated production which proved there is still a space for the grand and glorious musicals of the past.

New York and London may ring with the very modern sounds of Book of Mormon, Hamilton and Everyone Loves Jamie but this latest revival doesn’t just come laden with crowd-pleasing iconic songs, lavish sets and megawatt star power, it also continues to shine a light on very human issues which are as relevant today as half a century ago.

The legendary Rogers and Hammerstein musical opened on Broadway in 1951 and made a huge star of the equally legendary Yul Brynner, who performed the show 4,625 times and bagged an Oscar for the 1956 big screen version.

How can Watanabe escape such a shadow?

The star of The Last Samurai, Batman Begins and Inception admitted he was a hard sell for the show’s director Bartlett Sher when he was approached to do the part.

He declared he had no interest in such a role and told Sher: “I don’t like musicals. I said I don’t want to do singing or dancing.”

Luckily for all concerned, this is the most famous role in any musical that doesn’t require any great ability at either. 

His leading lady was already this decade’s queen of Broadway and had dazzled as Nellie in South Pacific. Shockingly, she too had reservations about the role, but for the opposite reason.

Despite an array of show-stopping and iconic numbers for Anna like Getting To Know You, Shall We Dance and Hello Young Lovers, O’Hara is frank that she didn’t take the part to show off her abilities since the famous score doesn’t actually allow her impressive soprano its full range.

She said: “As the women become older and brassier, the parts become lower. This is lower than my comfort zone. Do I wish that she went off and and sang an aria? Yes. But I want to play the role so I make myself do it.”

The acclaimed performer has sung with The Metropolitan Opera, so her comments are understandable, even they undersell quite how magnificent and spine-tingling she sounds in this role.

Sher said with hesitation: “She has absolutely the best voice on Broadway”

The latest revival also revels in the show’s remarkably relevant concerns with patriarchy, female and racial oppression and the issues of education.

O’Hara added that she had researched the original diaries of the real-life Anna Leonowens: “I know why she fights, I know why’s stubborn and why she’s desperate.”

Lucky London audiences may find they leave the theatre with their hearts and heads ringing.
